The image [1] and similar format in the tutorial might be misleading to newbies. A few users started posting signed messages like it. Eg:- -----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE----- <This is shorena from bitcointalk.org and today is the 24th of April 2015. I publish my guide to sign message with bitcoin addresses and all related pictures under CC BY-SA 3.0 link to guide : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0 link to license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/> -----BEGIN SIGNATURE----- <18uTXyQubfaYrkbQDdaXhzd2ALEY5YN77B> <IDYQyGOx2rG9aJ3bZH/SJSRFZJMZiMrIxiNNY1Hv9geHLlYeGdYbH+AxNbT+qXGmEzojFt//loC+sj8yGo6AV9A=> -----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
I think if you put a note there mentioning to ignore '<>' signs maybe good. [1] https://i.imgur.com/UZDCSad.pngDone, thanks for the tipp. It might be better if I redo the picture, what do you think? Thanks for the fast response. I think that will do.

This is very useful, thankyou. When I recently got started after much research I decided to go for a hardware Ledger Wallet. Unless I am missing something I cannot see how to sign a message using this? Can someone confirm this and if so am I best to get another conventional Bitcoin address just so that I can sign messages?
Thanks Rich

I dont own one of those so I cant test it, but the hardware is able to sign a short message[1]. Depending on the front end you use it might however not display this. You could however create a wallet just for signing. Electrum in the stand alone version on an dedicated USB stick would probably the closest thing to a hardware wallet even though it does not offer the same level of security for your private keys as a proper HW waller would. Hi shorena
Thanks for the link, have read it but makes no sense to me... The front end that I use just allows sending & receiving BTC, will take a look to see if there is a different front end that allows signing? Keen to get it sorted now before I actually need it.

According the the wiki[1] it should work with electrum2[2]. When I launch electrum 2.3.2 and try to create a HW wallet I only see "BTChip wallet" and "Trezor wallet" though. You could ask in the electrum section[3] about this or just try both versions and see whether one works. Electrum is at 2.4 now, so might be because of my outdated version. IIRC, Xapo does not allow you to sign messages.
