What is Relnuz (Pronounced RealNews)?

Relnuz is a mobile video-sharing application with a niche purpose of creating and sharing video news from your smartphone, whether that news is of global, current, topical niche, or highly geolocal interest. It allows you to instantly “sharecast” newsworthy events happening right in front of you, and lets you earn RelCoin rewards based on both crowd-evaluated quality of your sharecast and newsworthiness as determined by Relnuz editors. Because RelCoin rewards are a functioning, standalone cryptocurrency, tradable on exchanges for Bitcoin (or Euros, Dollars, etc.) or for an ever-increasing range of goods and services, you can earn genuine value for the quality news you sharecast, or for the honest and accurate feedback and editorial/categorization help you provide on other users’ sharecasts. In this way, Relnuz is a self-sustaining ecosystem that aims to disrupt Big Media video news as we know it, by decentralizing both its content and its value, and giving it back to a community of creators and consumers.


If I mine or buy RelCoin, how will you deliver value?

The Relnuz executive team has decided to launch RelCoin concurrently to the development of the Relnuz application, then integrate it later. We’re doing this because we want a working Relnuz beta to test in the field as soon as possible, and part of the data collected from our beta users will inform how to best integrate the RelCoin reward system into the app. We also want to generate attention amongst the cryptocurrency community, who share an early-adopter mindset and understand well the potential for real-world applications of cryptocurrency to generate true value. It’s our hope to be able to provide a profitable risk-reward proposition to early miners, investors, and supporters within such a network, and align you with our own goals for the success of Relnuz.

It’ll be important to manage the RelCoin economy to ensure there’s always a supply of RelCoin available to be fairly rewarded to users. This will be algorithmically adjustable according to real market value, which is part of why we’re launching and distributing RelCoin early-- we want the market and community to establish what that value is so we can fairly apply it. We will balance the rewards to minimize unfair exploitation while making it worth your while to sharecast and participate in the way that most benefits you *and* the Relnuz ecosystem.

On a larger economic scale, the Relnuz team is currently self-funding the development of Relnuz from our own pockets. In addition to continually seeking outside private and/or government funding, we have considered that RelCoin itself has the potential value to further fund development. Thus, we intend to participate as market-makers in the RelCoin market to preserve and grow its value while also working toward disparate goals of exchanging that value for further development. This may give rise to occasional, discretionary buying of RelCoin at market to refill the reward pool, or selling of RelCoin at market to finance company objectives. In-house market-making expertise will ensure this is done skilfully, with a light touch, minimizing any price shock, and only as a final-priority option. It’s mentioned here for the sake of transparent disclosure.

We will also create through in-app-purchasing steady flow of RelCoin back to the reward pool. Beta testing will tell us which ideas to implement and which to discard, with a primary concern for improvement of the Relnuz user experience. RelCoin will be purchasable in-app using normal app-store channels and usable for:

• tipping other users
• customizing sharecast video overlays and a user’s personal Relnuz channel
• geolocalized, categorizable video advertising
• re-sharecasting to wider audiences
• skipping or hiding ads
• more if it makes for a positive UX; less if it doesn’t

Inflow-outflow diagrams to illustrate the balance of the RelCoin economy will follow.


Who is behind RelCoin?

I’m notsofast, @notsofastcrypto on Twitter. I got into cryptocurrency during the early days of DogeCoin as a miner and trader and have since striven to be a positive force in an admittedly unruly space. I hold an undergraduate honours business administration degree, and more importantly, I bring to the table five years' experience as a technical/tactical trader and market maker on the NYSE, as well as eleven years' experience as a successful entrepreneur and owner of multiple growing businesses.

I use a pseudonym to keep my involvement in cryptocurrency separate from my other pursuits, but when and if the time is right, I will offer my dox if it will support investor confidence or further the goals of the Relnuz project.

I'm currently seeking a developer who is interested in doing the meat-and-potatoes main work on RelCoin. I have a good practical understanding of what this coin's parameters need to be, but I haven't learned to code. This would be a low time-commitment to start, as we would be able to clone a coin already out there and tweak it to our needs as well as leave things open for the important and more time-consuming app-integration work later on. Compensation for technical development is an open conversation. I'm open to input.

We have finalized a contract to hire RelCoin's lead technical developer! This individual is a well-known name in the cryptocurrency community and has contributed technical development to high-profile altcoins. The developer's identity will be released in the official RelCoin announcement thread.

Project Status

Although RelCoin is an integral part of Relnuz, this space will focus on RelCoin. For updates and more information on Relnuz, please visit our investor page at relnuz.info (http://relnuz.info), which is also under development and subject to change. Much of the development process is protected by non-disclosure agreements, but we’ll share everything we can.

At time of this PRE-ANN's launch, RelNuz's parent corporation is in the registration process, pending some final consolidation of the share structure. The RelNuz software has been in development since mid-April, and our development team is hiring an additional programmer to help meet our deadline of a working beta in August 2015.

The RelCoin project is in its earliest stages. The first goal of this pre-announcement is to seed awareness within the cryptocurrency community, and from there, recruit a primary developer based on track record with other coins, as well as bounty/volunteer help for management and promotion. I have a wish-list for developers I’d like to bring on, as well as an expert economic understanding of RelCoin’s required parameters.

We had planned to launch RELC in the first half of April but have decided to push it back at least another two weeks: the Relnuz beta app should be hitting Google Play and the Apple App Store in the next two weeks, and I didn't feel I could properly support both software launches at the same time.

Once the Relnuz app is confirmed working properly in both stores, with no emergency fixes, we'll begin some promo and focus group testing with that, which frees me up (because I'm not the one doing it!) to finalize the RELC launch and be at attention to make sure it goes smoothly.

If you've been waiting, thank you for your patience, and feel free to play around with the beta Relnuz app while you wait for the launch of the Relcoin cryptocurrency which it backs.

Obviously we are well past our previously intended timeline-- once it became clear the Relnuz beta app wouldn't be ready for our planned soft launch in September, we stepped back in order to concentrate on alpha testing and troubleshooting. As a *very* brief synopsis, everything on Android works pretty great but iOS is a pain.

We have updated a soft release plan for Q1 2016 for both the Relnuz beta and RelCoin. Given the positive receptivity towards Bitcoin tech I foresee in 2016, and the general bullish state, I'm toying with the idea of a ninja-launch of RELC. Perhaps a semi-ninja.

Development and testing of RELC is 98% complete and the main work in front of us is the finalizing of corollary assets and rollout procedures: whitepaper, ANN, FAQ, graphics.

The Relnuz executive team met today. Our social media manager was also present.

The app beta is a little late as we streamline basic functionality. We're using some of this streamlining time to implement basic ratings and comments ready for launch, which we'd originally planned to push through an early first update. This delays our proposed September 3 launch rollout but we've engineered that in a way that is ready to go as soon as we're happy with the basic functionality of the Relnuz beta app. We *hope* it'll be cleared for inclusion in Apple's app store by launch but their walled garden is capricious and hard to nail down. But the beta will be available on Google Play 3 hours after we upload it.

RelCoin's lead technical developer is clearing his plate of final projects and loose ends to devote September to development and then October for testing, as a basic timeline. RelCoin's official release date is October 14th 2015 but this will be adjusted earlier or later depending on rigorous and successful testing of the coin's network. We are aiming to do this professionally, at a quality level above most of the mineable altcoin launches you've seen, and plenty of time during the coin's transitory phases to quell any issues that do crop up. Most of the recent non-shitcoin launches have been ICOs as of late; I'm engineering RELC for the miners to fire up rigs and make some bank.

The Relnuz executive met yesterday, along with two other individuals whom were nominated to our board of directors: one was the designer of our logo, wordmark, and forthcoming graphical assets; the other contributed market research during a 2013 iteration of the project which stalled, but still maintains some shares and an interest in advising the company.

Our developers are releasing the first usable beta of our app to us tomorrow!

We have hired a social media manager and copywriter who will spend the remainder of August gearing up for our September beta launch.

Lastly and most importantly for this forum, I'm very excited to be finalizing plans to work with a respected and well-known altcoin developer who will be creating the RelCoin code. We will be using one existing altcoin's codebase and implementing some other key functions on top of it to create a simple but effective hybrid with the goals of network strength, wide and fair ungameable distribution, and ease of adoption. I'll reveal technical specifics once development is actually underway, along with reasoning for our choices.

The Relnuz team held an executive meeting today. The focus was on development and promotion and as such our CFO got the day off while the rest of us moved through the agenda.

On the Relnuz application side, it looks like the non-mobile portion of the website beta will be ready to go about 4 weeks from today, and as such, we want to begin populating it with quality content in advance of the heavy promotional period. One of the ideas I proposed was me doing a regular, frequent, very brief cryptocurrency show. The format would be simply a one-person (me), 3-5 minute roundup of recent news regarding Bitcoin or a particular altcoin, or, lacking any news, a review of recent launches with a positive bent, IE if there's nothing nice to say about something it's better not to say it at all.

This show would be sharecast excusively on the Relnuz web platform, embeddable/linkable anywhere, and then on the mobile platform once it's ready.

I've been in talks with three (so far) interested parties about the development of RelCoin, though no final decisions have yet been made and there's still much to discuss. Though I have come closer to nailing down the coin specs, these won't be finalized until a lead technical developer has been confirmed.

The RelNuz team discussed an ICO just for the sake of considering all our options.

Besides all the obvious extra FUD and time spent dealing with pissed-off investors, we realized we'd do better bootstrapping the project on our own.

We'll definitely get into a cash crunch later, especially if app usage during the beta takes off and our server funding isn't enough. But we figured we'd cross that bridge when we come to it.

So yeah, no ICO. I don't want your BTC or your money. I hope you're OK with that. :)

I've updated the OP with some exciting news: we're in the final stages of securing our lead technical developer for RelCoin, and our Relnuz programmers hand us our app beta tomorrow!

That day was the due date for the programmers to submit the alpha app to us, the executive team, with basic functionality intact.

It was looking good, but basic functionality couldn't be properly tested until this past Sunday. It's starting to work reliably now and once some basic server balancing is in place we'll start seeding it with content.

It won't be available in app stores until after the beta launch which we're still planning to do in early September.

Any new information about relc?

The lead developer is currently working on the coin and we're still on track for our mid-October launch.

The actual beta launch of Relnuz has been delayed as our programmers on that end of things add a few more essential features to the app. We were going to launch without them and update soon afterward, but considering some server balancing issues we were having, plus some other timing issues among the executive (mainly me as I'm swamped with my other businesses this time of year), we're proceeding with our second scenario of a late September promotion and launch.

Can we see the copy of the signed contract please? It will build confedence over here.

I won't post the contract. It contains the coin specs which I'll release later anyway in the official announcement thread, and might be subject to small changes; the rest is private information between the signing parties. I don't see any clear confidence-building benefit to publishing a private contract. There are plenty of better ways to establish miner and speculator confidence in this undertaking.

I *will* post some screenshots of the test wallet once that's ready, though it'll be a regular no-frills QT until we begin integration of RELC with the Relnuz app.

FYI: I'll be on a short vacation with limited internet access from today until Tuesday, September 15th. If there's meaningful thread activity I'll do my best to respond in a timely manner, but response times may be delayed until that date. Thank you for your understanding.

We're still looking at an end-of-March or early April release, finally.

Bug testing of the Relnuz beta app has been very slow but we're down to the final 4-5 items, and I have a working alpha version on my phone as I type this. So there'll be legitimate MVP (minimum viable product) software to present to investors, and we'll be encouraging cryptocurrency community members to download and use the beta. Right now it looks and works like a rough version of Periscope. But it's cool to have software we developed from scratch backing RELC from launch.

RELC development was put on hold as the main developer took care of some urgent business; however this business positioned RELC for even better opportunities for a solid development path than I'd originally hoped when creating this pre-ANN thread 10 months ago. I won't reveal anything more about this until we know exactly how it will take shape.

I'm working on Relcoin's collateral content (formalized ANN thread, FAQ, launch support, timing) right now, then working with the dev and contacting pools. I hope to have a few options for miners right at launch.

Best advice I can give: just keep watching this thread.

I'll be giving notice on Twitter as well as here. I'm still working on the ANN thread content and haven't decided whether or not I'm going to start a new OP for the actual announcement while closing this thread, or just replace this one.

A lot of the value of RELC will be dependent on the development of Relnuz so rather than crossposting all our stuff to bitcointalk we will probably just direct people to our own forums, once we establish them. Truth be told, we ideally want commentary, reviews, updates, etc. to happen on the Relnuz platform itself, though I recognize and prefer a written/readable forum to video for a lot of things. But aside from the launch announcement I don't think bitcointalk will be the place where the main updates and communication happen. The most current news will be on my Twitter, and on the @Relnuz twitter (which is still sleeping, but give it a follow in advance anyway!).

The past year plus of work the Relnuz team has been putting into this sure doesn't look like a scam to me. Like any new venture there's a chance we could fail due to any number of factors, but we have a good team and a good plan. You should remember, though, that cryptocurrency launches aren't so much investments as they are speculation. You're not owning a piece or a share of an actual company, but you are mining and staking to secure the token that we plan to integrate into the platform we've built, and that token has the chance of becoming more valuable once we've successfully integrated it.

I'm really glad for the support of the cryptocurrency community and will do everything I can to keep earning a good reputation in the space because I believe that's more valuable than any mining/trading profits. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt are realities that I'm going to attempt to neutralize with a minimum of work, since they distract from the actual productive and creative work with "maintenance". I've watched how some other teams have dealt with it and will take appropriate measures. If FUD gets out of hand I will very likely make this thread read-only with clear directions to where the legitimate discussions are actually taking place.

tl:dr; FUD gets in the way of our real work. If there's basis I'll address it, if it's baseless it will be ignored and neutralized.

Did you decide on full ninja or semi ninja?

We decided that ninja launches aren't totally fair, but that cryptocurrency people who keep tabs on new launches daily deserve a shot at being first to the feeding trough. And a fair launch is very important.

So the official plan as it stands is to announce the launch by a countdown timer 24 hours in advance. I think that's enough time to get ready. I'm aiming for it to be evening in Eastern Standard time, in fairness to the Toronto-centric launchpad where we plan to test and prove the Relnuz concept.

All the coin specs and full ANN information will be posted at the time the countdown starts, as well as a comprehensive FAQ that I'm hoping you all point each other to, so that if I get swamped with messages etc., all the need-to-know information is still accessible immediately, even if I'm not.

I've been discussing with Alex from BlockTalk the possibility of a "live launch" where we mine the genesis block live on video, and once the PoW chain is up and running, I demo the Relnuz beta software on a test device. This will be tricky to coordinate on top of a launch, not to mention the risk of embarrassment if there's a permanent video record of the launch not going smoothly... but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained, right? In any case, we agreed it would be super cool to try, so if we can sort out the logistics, we will make an attempt.

As I've repeated, there is no set launch date until we begin the 24-hour countdown clock. We're operating on making this work properly, first and foremost. So the estimates on when we'll launch get revised when there's something else to fix or test. I'd prefer honouring tight deadlines too! But I'm realizing that in the world of software development, things work a little differently.



It is actually the best algo choice for what we are looking to accomplish, but your feedback is noted. The PoW algo will not be changing-- you can always rent scrypt if you don't want to turn on some GPUs. Distribution is also achieved via exchange, not just mining, and I believe the work we're doing will be sufficient to generate a wide distribution via speculative trading action. To say nothing of the distribution plans we have for future phases of feature rollout.


We picked scrypt precisely because it has a known ASIC support base, but not so much that nethash could get subjected to extreme spikes as with SHA256. We want to encourage a relatively high hashrate during PoW, with multipool support so we sacrifice some hashrate stability for a dynamic mining environment. GPU algos are very cross-competitive and I don't want all the miner support leaving for the new hot coinz during our long "post-hype cooldown" phase.

This sounds reasonable to me. Personally, having just lost a load of Doge since Cryptsy when tits-up, I just want to mine a coin from the outset and then sit on it and/or use it as the community intends or dictates. RELC seems to match that, so my timing is pretty good (for once) :)

Scrypt algo is bad choice

It's actually the perfect choice for what we are aiming to accomplish. This may be made a little clearer once the full ANN is posted, but it's not subject to change or discussion.

Thanks for your feedback-- it's noted that there are a few people who would prefer the RELC PoW algorithm not to be scrypt. If you'd like to elaborate I will be happy to read your reasons, but please consider the matter closed.

Scrypt is ok, not Asic proof of course. Any plans for pools yet?

I don't want to speak on behalf of pool ops but I have contacted a few of them and everyone I talked to seemed to be on board to launch a pool.

Be aware that you're risking your rep over here. 101 things can go wrong on launches. You know that.
Even PA will have huge impact on your reputation. People will blame you for anything, even it's obvious it's not your fault.

Do not share source with pool owners before launch, because there's always that 1 idiot who'll fuck up. Talking from experience.

I appreciate the warning man. I am proud of the good reputation I have built and would hate to let down a community I have grown to admire and respect. But on the flipside, I also know the risks to my rep and am OK with putting it on the line due to the amount of work we've put in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! I have made big mistakes and failed hard; I will continue to make bigger mistakes and fail harder. That is a natural part of the path to successes.

I have already anticipated what kind of comments trolls and detractors might make. Most of my FUDfighting will consist of telling people to reread the thread in detail, as I plan on covering as many bases as possible before lack of information becomes a problem.

Bottom line is that this forum is a launchpad to seed early awareness and present a potentially rewarding opportunity to early adopters, cryptocurrency miners, and others within the existing sphere of influence, in exchange for initial price discovery of RELC and network security. Once this is established-- and it won't take long-- and ESPECIALLY if my valuable time is being consumed fighting trolls-- I will be locking the thread and redirecting all seekers of information to in-house controlled sources. If things go according to plan, the relevant conversation will grow beyond this forum very quickly. Most importantly, we are using a simple "1.0" blockchain with a few bells and whistles. Once we launch smoothly and transparently, there won't be many toeholds for trolls or detractors. Focus will move quickly to the underlying Relnuz software into which a functioning blockchain token will be integrated. Most complaints will be along the lines of, "Hurry the hell up!".

There is a method to share source with pool owners and everyone else for the purposes of code-vetting, without allowing for mining to start, via implementation of a hidden checkpoint which is released at time of launch.  We are exploring an implementation of this, and the standard alternatives of password-protected archives released during an anti-instamine phase.

Honestly I feel there are a lot of positive contributors in the cryptocurrency community who want to see RELC and Relnuz succeed, and will help fight FUD alongside me if they speculate that they can ride along for some profit. Don't speculate what you can't afford to lose and you should do OK.

Appreciate your eagerness. We're not quite ready-- working on the Relnuz software finishing touches, organizing focus group testing which starts this month. We had planned to either launch RELC before or after the Relnuz beta rollout, just not during. We didn't it make it in time for the before option, but once the Relnuz software is soft-launched with any major functionality issues resolved, we'll move on to the RELC lauch.

Finally(!) got around to looking for this, and can't find it. Has it been taken down? I'm on iOS.

I had to check as I don't have a single Apple device, and it won't show up on a PC or Android device. But it should be in there.

I checked the iTunes dev backend and it's greenlit, and also had one of our team with an Apple device send me the screenshot of its listing in the App Store.

Search for "Relnuz" in the App Store or iTunes directly from your Apple device and you should find it. Let me know if you still encounter problems. What country are you in, just so I can check if it's been region locked (which we didn't intend to do)?

Been away from this thread for a while, relieved to see mining hasn't started as yet. Downloaded the app too, all ok so far, couple of minor formatting issue no biggies though.

Thanks for the feedback on the app. It's still getting fixes pushed to it and the video backend was tweaked enough that you could consider it proprietary... so formatting bugs out sometimes. Especially on devices with really small/big screens.

Now got around to installing this on my iPhone (6S Plus) and it looks ok in the app - when directed to the website though, and the sports/recreation page specifically, the base of the screen doesn't redraw correctly on iOS Safari, FYI. Looks liks T&Cs is overlaid over something else at the bottom of the screen.

Yeah the website is not intentioned to display properly on mobile. We're looking to plug all the holes so on mobile you're always redirected to the app.

Right oh, FYI then I was directed to the website by the URL in the verification email I received. Guess if I'm on Android or iOS it should open the app not a browser.

If we have bounties it won't be for simple ANN translations. We are thinking of paying bounties to reporters interested in creating a promotional video for Relnuz and Relcoin in their native language on the Relnuz platform itself, and tying a payment amount in proportion to the interest it generates (hits, views, new signups in that language flag, etc.).

I'll definitely be mentioning this one in my mag column plus I'll do a clip on my YouTube channel.

On launch, it will be available by mining only. You will be able to generate a few with your own computer, and more than that with consumer hardware.

I expect miners will be selling some of what they mined after it's been listed on exchanges, but I can offer no guarantee whether or when that will happen.

Later on in our development cycle, you will be able to earn and buy RelCoin within the Relnuz app. But that won't be for awhile.

We haven't finalized bountied translation programs yet. Most likely to earn a language bounty you will need to create a press release in your own language for RelCoin, as well as a short introductory how-to video in your chosen language, on the Relnuz platform itself, along with a translated thread posting that links to the instructional videos. This won't be required on launch of RELC as the Relnuz roll-out is in English language countries first.

Thanks man! We hired a full time programmer at the beginning of June and he turned out to be quite a rockstar.

Please note this is all bootstrapped development. Yes, we *could* have hosted an ICO and exploited my rep to raise a shit ton of funds, and make this all much easier on ourselves.

However, this is not how I set standards for my projects. I like the idea of building it first, and shipping a working beta before raising outside funds. I believe in taking any direction possible that sets us apart from the rest of the mess of projects getting easy ICO money from a population that's doing unresearched speculation.

I also want to have an opportunity to reward you, the miner. As an early adopter and direct supporter of the network, you deserve the opportunity to be first on the elevator, and to get a nice ROI boost on the mining equipment you risked funds to purchase and run.

Nooo, why scrypt? Scrypt is occupied with ASICs, there is nothing to do with scrypt for ordinary CPU/GPU miner! There are so many miners friendly algos out there right now, but scrypt is NOT one of them. May be it is still a thing to reconsider?

You may have seen on Twitter that I fucked up my wrist. I'm typing one-handed right now. Major launch timing decision now rests on me recovering my ability to type fast enough to manage any launch issues, fight FUD, answer questions, and be as present and accountable as I can be. Few other urgent work issues to clear up before I am clear to dedicate the necessary time to managing the launch.

Just checking in on this one, still keen to see it come to fruition. Been busy with SocialCoin's mobile wallets, hence not been reviewing this thread - relieved in a way to see that it's not gone anywhere, but also starting to wonder whether it ever will?

Sad to say there have been multiple delays with launch timing best benefitting the Relnuz project. I agree, this is probably one of the longest waits in crypto! I will do my best to make it worthwhile. But no firm launch date news yet.

Sheet just noticed the RelNuz app has gone from my 'phone - WTF will need to re-install that.

We had a server migration recently and there has been a lot of tweaking and fine tuning, so you may have had a deprecated version on there.

By way of explanation... in 2015 when this preANN was first made, we had a plan to launch with Iquidus as the dev in Oct. 2015. During that time he got busy with his work at KryptoTech and we agreed to sort out alternate development. The parameters of what Relnuz would need from an integrated cryptocurrency were also in flux and we adopted a "wait and see" approach to let some of the other technology out there pass or fail first before we set immutable blockchain parameters we couldn't change. Specifically we were looking at ERC20 tech, which I can say for now will still be a factor of Relcoin, though Relcoin WILL be 100% proof-of-work mineable with scrypt algorithm.

Jon of Cryptocoderz has been involved in the development and some personal factors of his have also impacted the timeline, as have some of mine. However the project is still in play and planned for launch SOON^TM

This is the most anticipated project in crypto!  ;D

Anyway, we will keep an eye on it, the involved team is a guarantee...

Similar to Periscope except we don't have live broadcast functionality. It's more of a video article or vrticle. This is so that in the current early stages we can be centralized and censor any despicable video content (counter to the TOU) posted by bad actors that would kill the platform and the venture if it were to remain available.

As the platform develops and the user community can flag despicable content on their own, the idea is to move to a lighter and lighter touch.

Eventually once we can integrate decentralized video sharing, there may be very little censorship, but that's far down the road.

It is. The Relnuz project is bugfixing one critical video upload bug that has been taking us a few months to properly nail, and considering a move from AWS to an IBM solution for decreased latency in our geographical test markets.

The code for RelCoin is complete and is under audit.
