Title: How do you value Bitcoin ?
Post by: Shamie1002 on July 22, 2017, 01:03:42 PM
I think that the most common way to value Bitcoin is like valuing other currency by another currency.
Seeing to it that we all know all the factors that causes or affects supply and demand equilibrium.
Also the time we hold bitcoins. Time is very important factor.

I value bitcoin as a currency that could change the world of currency on Earth, because of it's optimistic flow in the world of cryptocurrency. Just what like it been doing in the past months it's really something to be valued for before it start in just a single penny then an increase for a thousand dollars that's also to be valued for, even in just that instances it is worth to be valued.

Maybe it can be equated with the money used for the purposes of day-to-day, because to get his course we need the same time as we work to make money, it is not wrong with the price and its benefits with the value of other money.

I value bitcoin purely based on the market hype and the supply and demand. Over the years, I feel it has been obvious that bitcoins have no real value. And the only value they have is from the hype in the news and all which determine its price.

No, time is not the most important factor, everyone's belief is the most important factor, when everyone believes in bitcoin, they will keep it for themselves, and then the supply Become less, the value of bitcoin will definitely increase.

If you look at historic price of bitcoin you can see that value of bitcoin will increase with time. Just few days ago many newbie traders have sold their bitcoins for less than $2000 and right now price is over $2700. This shows how having patience will increase value of bitcoin you will hold with time.

Yeah you are right it is all about the supply demand and equilibrium. However, that is the most important factor in the bitcoin since the cryptocurrency have a limited supply only so the tendency of the price of it is always up if there's people who are continue to buy bitcoin and other currency.

The value of anything in the market depends upon its supply and demand, same as here bitcoin value is based on its demand in the market. The price is increasing day by day as the number of users are increasing, this is because of the increasing popularity of bitcoin among the people.

The value of Bitcoin is always depending on the current demand and supply system...the more there is a demand for it the more we can expect its value to rise. We are usually pegging it into the dollar because the dollar is still the most dominant international currency though there is also an equivalent value for it in Euro and in other currencies.

The Bitcoin is now almost touching the $2,800 level because the FUD phase is over and there is now an assurance of no split though we are technically still waiting for August 1 when the scaling solution can be implemented. Bitcoin will rise more after August 1.

Currently, people only evaluate bitcoin by the value of USD or Euro, which is the legal currency in the world. There is not any virtual currency that can evaluate the value of bitcoin; in contrast, their value is evaluated by bitcoin.

I only trust bitcoin to take care of my future and I believe the more I continue to invest the more I can harvest in the future.

Bitcoin value is driven by scarcity, utility, demand and supply. These all factors have made Bitcoin an ideal investment. For me I value Bitcoin as an investment. Bitcoin helps in growth of my money than its inflationary counterpart fiat. Bitcoin has provided this world an alternate form of currency which has many use cases and will soon be readily accepted everywhere.

I value bitcoin by considering the world economy and its demand. I try to see the whole concept with the help of community and news. I consider its functuonality and the possibility to become a real world currency. Then I consider the possible reactions that will happen against bitcoin. I take both negative and positive effects into account.

On the contrary, with regard to bitcoin, I think value is attached because of its demands, not necessarily usage. Many people would think that it is wiser not to use bitcoin the way it should be used. Bitcoin is designed to be used as payment. However, it has become so precious that people want to buy some not to use but to keep them safe in their wallets. The demand is so high that is why bitcoin has grown so much in value.

I usually like to go by market cap on things, so the total amount that I think BTC should be worth, given enough marketing / outreach / awareness etc.

So I think each bitcoin should be at least 5x what it currently is, if we just had proper outreach and adoption procedures for new people.

Coinbase (while controversial to some) is still a good step forward in this direction, I feel.

Yeah this is good way to find out the value of the particular currency but I think it will be more complicated for us to calculate the price/value to consume more time .
So here we should see the market where people are buying Bitcoin or sell Bitcoin or any other altcoins , thier you can see the market bid where people are making buy the things at bid and also selling at the bid .
For example you can see at the bitrex where people are making buy and sell Bitcoin for USD .
Usually in the list of the selling people sell high and at the list of the buyers , buys at low price that all are bid rate to make buy or sell .
So there is not certain price we can say at the particular time of the Bitcoin price or of any altcoin price .
Here i myself see the buy and sell rate at the zebpay wallet and exchange to do trade at LBC .

WE HAVE THIS SIMPLE LOGIC:

Bitcoin is a form of money,
Moneys are valuable medium.
Bitcoins are valuable medium.

It is very easy to say that Bitcoins are valuable since it represents a true physical form of money. Just like us, we use money in our daily lives, get life so much easier if you had a lot of this thing.

I normally use US Dollar as value. But since I don't live in the US, but Norway, I often use NOK too. USD is easier since that's what most people use and is what most exchanges supports. It's hard for me to value it as a currency, even though I believe it is. I feel it's so fragile, and is something else than USD and other currencies.

Bitcoin is all the rage right now. Being a value investor by trade, I’ve long had a hard time wrapping my head around the concept.

Seeing the soaring prices made me even more skeptical since the financial market is the only place where people rush in to buy when it’s expensive and sell when it’s cheap. Meanwhile, anyone running a normal household budget would rightfully tell you to do the complete opposite!

As contradictory as it may sound, just because something soars in price more than 4,100,000% (!) in less than seven years, doesn’t mean that it’s overvalued by definition. So let’s stop talking about Bitcoin’s price and instead ask the more profound question: “What is the fundamental value of one Bitcoin?”

I also do believe that people have different perspective in regards on using Bitcoin as a form or transaction, investments or trading that could give them an opportunity to earn more and to have a bugger profit. Hence, the capability of a person to earn is also depends on how they will used Bitcoin as form of crypto-currency particular in trading and investment to earn.

I value Bitcoin by its value to our local currency or any other foreign currency. And I think thats the best way to value it. It is not advisable to value it or compare it to other investments like gold or other products because the damands of those will differ. Unlike in currencies, it is already in currenct. You already know the exact value of Bitcoin to dollar and how it increases or decreases into day to day basis. I hope this helps.

I would say those assumptions even arent realistic at all we wont hit up that price range for sure.I do have hopes on bitcoins potential but reaching out that price is somehow exaggerated and unbelievable better to look on lower prices and i do expect on that one in near future. Most of us bitcoin holders do have the same hopes and aims on this coin on which it would reach new heights in the future and would give us good profits.

This is totally natural when we have more popular currency which is used as a benchmark after all we need something more familiar and common to evaluate the value of niche commodities/currencies.
The best option is to simply follow purchasing power policy. This is the most accurate rating any currency can have.

To me, Bitcoin is the unidentified land as I only started to get into it much deeper. Though I hope it will be really rewarding with time.
One day you land will grow various types of fruit, and the fruit is money.
Everyone hopes to plant a money-making tree. It's like a dream and has become real. From now on you will live with the dream and the dream is Bitcoin.

About Bitcoin I became interested in 2013. At that time it was the first decent increase prices 200 dollar per BTC. Then I mined on two gtx570 nvidia cards for 0.03 btc in a few hours. I value the bitcoin as something new that was not in front of him. I take it as a positive thing that is already changing the world of finance. I do not know where the price will grow up but if someone told me in 2013 that there would be a bitcoin worth more than $ 4,000, I would have told him that he was crazy. Many stores fell: Mt.gox or cryptsy and so on. But bitcoin is still here, and I believe that even long will it.

You can really treat it that way, because just like money you can surely have and make transaction with it, and just like money it can surely can get lost by stealing it from you, or take a ransom with it criminals are now taking interest with bitcoin, you can surely make it as an asset that you can be sure to take investments with it just like gold, the value back then is just small and right now we have a $1,336.80 per ounce right now.

Value is something that is an actual potential of it irrespective of what people are paying for it. I always differentiate between price and value and to be honest I prefer value when it comes to the investment decision. Now, while evaluating value, I consider multiple aspects like user base, potential scope at the current stage and in the future. However, it is difficult to predict accurate value by that way because even after scientific research, all you can have is a prediction.

At the same time, the vale of bitcoin is being determined just by comparing things. Now we are using USD to compare and determine the real worth of bitcoins. In future we may see USD may be compared to bitcoins to find its worth.

The most known and used worldwide is the value of bitcoin in USD, usually everyone refers to its value in US dollars or in Europe it may be in pounds, but overall its in $$$.
I think other barter trades or exchanges also consider its value in USD.

To value something you have to know the how many people want it and how many can sell it. The price at which both of them come at equilibrium that is the value of bitcoin.

Valuing anything has many different ways through which it can be seen.
Some worship it considering as money itself which helps them earn profits by trading the same.
Others (including me) praise it for its features like lower fees over transactions which help us send money at the blink of an eye to our loved ones. I love it too much for this.

Bitcoins do not have value as a physical commodity like gold and are not widely accepted as legal tender like dollars. Rather, Bitcoin appears to have value for the following reasons:
It is popular. In short, people accept and trade in Bitcoin because other people accept and trade in Bitcoin. It is recognized and accepted as a currency by many.Bitcoin is decentralized and limited. This is a major factor for many Bitcoin users. Bitcoin is hard for governments to trace and tax. Also, unlike fiat money produced by central banks, there is a cap set on total Bitcoins, limiting how much the currency can devalue through inflation.Bitcoin acts like an equity investment. The market value of Bitcoins has had wild swings in value and even a market cap.Bitcoin is a social network. The Bitcoin "community" is active and acts like other online social networks.

That's what happen in the future, there will be less supply because people will hold, as the price continues to rise we can enjoy the increase of value of our holdings. Now, that the price is not so expensive then we must have the initiative to buy and hold, in my evaluation I can say bitcoin is undervalue now so when you buy you can be sure of getting a good value over time.

It's going to be a good time for all of us once there will be more and more development that will involve bitcoin, that means our future is bright.

The only way I know in how to tell the value, the price of a bitcoin is to look at the price it is traded at exchanges (and there the value is defined by supply & demand).
I do not see a way how a normal person can determine it another way.
There is always that gut feeling, that tells me that at the moment bitcoin seems to be expensive, or cheap.
But with bitcoin, I do not think those feelings can give a proper advice. There are too many factors I do not know.

Like gold, Bitcoin is also scarce: its supply is limited. There are currently just over 16.2m Bitcoin in circulation and the maximum that will ever exist is capped at 21 million. This set cap is well known, making its scarcity transparent.

However, to have value, Bitcoin must also be useful. Bitcoin creates utility in a number of ways.

Like gold, Bitcoin is perfectly fungible (one Bitcoin is similar to another), it is divisible (you can pay someone a small fraction of Bitcoin, should you want to) and easily verifiable (via the Blockchain).

It is not advisable to value it or compare it to other investments like gold or other products because the damands of those will differ. Unlike in currencies, it is already in currenct. You already know the exact value of Bitcoin to dollar and how it increases or decreases into day to day basis. I hope this helps.

I value bitcoin as a chance to change the world and my life. Crypto currency is the future, very, very promising. Already now we have the opportunity to earn money on this and invest our money in the crypto currency in order to provide for ourselves and our family in the future. I'm really looking forward to the time when bitcoin and other cryptovalts will be equated to our usual money, then a new era will begin.

I have a different view. I value it based on what the market tells me its worth. Currently it is performing very well as an alternate asset in a diversified portfolio so i am pretty happy. That may of course charge if it starts to spiral downwards on the back of government crackdowns and negative press.

Those talking about it being a life saver and based their entire lives on it, should really take a step back and think about what exactly it is they are talking about.  It's just another asset class guys. Nothing more and nothing less.

For me I value the bitcoin because of the high quality investment that I have to invest, specially on the campaigns that I have joined. And it is the best crypto currency in the first place that we have to trust the most.

I value it kind of like how I value cash. It's basically just money in my eyes, except it grows on its own. It's more than a currency, as you said, but that doesn't make it inherently better. I hold it in pretty much the same regard because it's really just stability vs volatility. I don't have to favor one over the other.

I think that the most common way to value Bitcoin is like valuing other currency by another currency.
Seeing to it that we all know all the factors that causes or affects supply and demand equilibrium.
Also the time we hold bitcoins. Time is very important factor.
A good opinion and I agree with your opinion.
A powerful way to assess bitcoin is like assessing daily life like behavior or judging other currencies because after seeing that, we all know what causes it and what affects demand and supply later.

I agree. Because though bitcoin is not yet very common in every country, we all know that sooner or later it will become an established currency in the world. So, while it's not yet happening, why not considering its value the same as our own currency, right? There's nothing we will lose if we will value it the same way as our real currency.

The only difference of real money to bitcoin is that bitcoin is use online and not tangible.  It is just these past two months where I realized that I should start to invest and keep my earned bitcoins.  Bitcoin price right now are so high and if I keep them, I would also have a good income.  Before I just spend all my earnings here because my very reason why I use bitcoin is to have an additional earnings.  Now, I make sure that most of my income were save.

The value of anything in the market depends upon its supply and demand, same as here bitcoin value is based on its demand in the market. The price is increasing day by day as the number of users are increasing, this is because of the increasing popularity of bitcoin among the people.
I agree with this, as the time past many people discovers bitcoin and as it increases the usage of bitcoin in the market its price will gradually increases too because of many users. Bitcoin's price are dependent to the people who uses bitcoin in everyday. So if one day people will get tired of bitcoin that I hope it will not come, bitcoins price will decrease to in a short time because of a sudden pull out.

Well besides the demand and supply rule of economy, I value bitcoins based on the acceptance from the government and the acceptance from the local population

If bitcoins are legal it directly is linked to increase in price and with the advent of new technology more and more people are now getting interested in it.So I think attractive technology and new features like one we are going to get with segwit2x i.e. faster and more efficient transaction are linked with increase in value of bitcoins.

If people generate more interest then it will elevate the demand and supply rule, and if government back up Bitcoins then the crowd will be assured and won't hesitate to invest in bitcoins.

This question has befuddled investors and analysts for years when it comes to Bitcoin. While the methods for valuing digital currencies are rather straightforward, the assumptions that underlie competing valuations vary widely. Don't rely on Wall Street analysts to think for you. Instead, consider this framework and come up with your own fair market value estimates for bitcoin.
Bitcoin has value because people think it has value.
Your first question might be to ask whether Bitcoin has any value whatsoever. After all, many bitcoin skeptics have knocked the virtual currency for its lack of "intrinsic value", including world-class investors like Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s (NYSE:BRK.B
BRK.B
Berkshire Hathaway Inc

) Jamie Dimon, and venerated economists like former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and Nobel laureate Paul Krugman ("Bitcoin is evil"). Despite this army of skeptics and a myriad of bad news for the industry so far in 2014, Bitcoin still continues to trade for multiples more than it did one year ago. The Winklevoss twins clearly disagree. See Investopedia's interview with Tyler Winklevoss.)
How can this be?
Quite simply, Bitcoins have value because a small, but growing group of people believe that the underlying Bitcoin technology has value. In the future, the Bitcoin technology may be used for a wide array of financial services applications from payments, to contracts, to distributed exchanges. Since Bitcoins are the scarce currency units which are required to power these applications, they are valuable. Unlike fiat currencies whose money supplies may be inflated by central banks, there are a finite number of Bitcoins that will ever be released into circulation, making the currency a superior store of value versus other international reserves. Although Bitcoin is not legal tender backed by a particular government, the currency's value is supported by the individuals and merchants who voluntarily accept Bitcoin for their goods and services.
If we can agree that Bitcoins have a positive expected value (because at least some people believe the underlying technology has the potential to be revolutionary), we can start to make our own estimates about its current fair value.
Bitcoin's value depends on "transactional" and "reservation" demand.
It is important to note that the total market value of a currency, its "monetary base", is driven by two things, transactional demand and reservation demand. We can think of Bitcoin's average daily "float" as the analog of our economy's M1 money supply - the currency needed to satisfy transactional demand for goods and services. Similarly, we can think of the Bitcoins which are "hoarded" by speculative investors as the currency needed to satisfy reservation demand for secure long-term savings. Combined, Bitcoin's float and reserves comprise its total monetary base, which is similar to our economy's M2 money supply (M1+money in savings deposits, money markets, etc).
So the monetary base relies on both consumers and investors who believe that the Bitcoin technology will power a certain volume of economic exchange today and in the future. Speculative investors in particular have shown an extraordinary willingness to buy BTC, leading to a much larger monetary base than would otherwise be expected for a currency with bitcoin's transactional volume.
And that's ok! As long as the transactional demand for Bitcoin continues to grow exponentially in the coming years, the balance between Bitcoin's float and its total monetary base will likely reflect that of other global currencies. (To learn how Bitcoin enters into circulation, read, "What is Bitcoin Mining?")
Bitcoin's potential monetary base is one key input we need for our valuation.
Since there is no real difference between a BTC held for commerce and a BTC held for investment, it should be clear that we really only care about Bitcoin's total monetary base when it comes to valuation.
Theoretically, the fair-market value of one BTC should simply be the dividend of its predicted future monetary base and BTC in circulation, discounted by a "hurdle rate" an investor would require in order to invest in the speculative currency.
So what are some reasonable estimates for bitcoin's future potential monetary base? Bitcoins are worth about $5.5 billion today, but according to investor and entrepreneur Barry Silbert, they will only begin to thrive as transactional currency once the monetary base grows to $50-100 billion.
More dramatically, analysts at Wedbush Securities recently approximated that the potential aggregate demand for bitcoin could be over $13 trillion, including global foreign currency reserves, money supplies of high-inflation countries, and the market value of all gold held as financial assets.
Let's assume that in our optimistic case for Bitcoin, the monetary base grows to $1 trillion dollars within ten years, which would represent a fraction of the U.S. dollar's total money supply and about half the value of the global market for gold. We could then divide this monetary base by the total number of bitcoins expected in circulation by 2024 (thanks to the known mining schedule). With 21 million BTC in circulation, we could see a $50,000 bitcoin with a $1 trillion monetary base!
If we're comfortable with that assumption, all we need to do is boil down our $50,000 future bitcoin into present dollars.
Bitcoin's "hurdle rate" is the other key input we need for our valuation.
Here's where things get tricky: what is an appropriate discount rate to use for bitcoin, a speculative currency that will never generate cash flows?
We need to make certain assumptions about the rate of return required to compensate for the risks associated with holding Bitcoin. Let's assume that we normally require a 12% return on equity for investments in certain growth stocks, but we believe Bitcoin carries five times the usual risk. We would need to apply a 60% discount rate to our future value estimate for Bitcoin. Due to compounding, that would make our $50,000 BTC in 2024 worth approximately $455 today -- not too far off from current price levels.
For further illustration, it might also help to consider how a venture capitalist could determine the net present value of an investment that he never expects to generate positive cash flows during his firm's investment period (e.g. a high-growth tech company that reinvests 100% of its earnings before it ultimate sells to Google). In the absence of earnings, that VC might look at revenue multiples to determine the company's terminal value, and then discount that figure by a rate of 40 to 60%.
With Bitcoin, the thinking is the same. Except Bitcoin's terminal value is actually its future monetary base.
Caveat emptor: Your assumptions make all the difference.
Under the assumptions we used above, Bitcoin may seem as if it is close to fairly priced today.
But what if we think the monetary base will reach $2 trillion in ten years and investors prove willing to settle for annual returns of 30%? Suddenly BTC's current fair market value skyrockets to $7,250! Conversely, if we think the monetary base will reach just $500 billion in ten years and investors only touch Bitcoin when they expect an 80% annual return, the current fair value would plummet to $70.
The Bottom Line
If you're a risk-tolerant Bitcoin believer, today's prices are probably enticing. If you're a more conservative skeptic, you will likely steer clear of an asset class that looks as if it is in a speculative bubble. But either way, you only need to make two basic assumptions to come up with your own fair market value for Bitcoin: its future monetary base, and your risk-adjusted rate of return.

Yes if people will more rush toward this coin this coin will be more valuable and a lot of people are now talking that it is nonetheless than blessing for them and this statement is 100 percent true because this coin has all the potential to raise economy level as well as it is the game changer coin because one who invest into it at mediocre level and this coin raises the standard and this coin really gives more than 100%.

Time and bitcoin, yeah surely they have got the direct proportion relation where bitcoin is growing continuously in its value. Speaking about valuing the bitcoin, well every asset is measured in terms of local currency only and that is just the measure and nothing more. Bitcoin is just another asset and sometimes currency for many users which is valued in terms well dollar. The value it gets comes from the investment that is made into it by big investors, the supply and demand stuff works when the asset is not released from the main server. Too many simple and complex thing that defines the value of bitcoin, with the timeline off curse.

It also depends on me on how we value bitcoin. Some value bitcoin because it helps them provide needs for their own living. Some value bitcoin because it will make you rich as long as you have the amount to invest in a secured site.
Valuing Bitcoin is also valuing Fiat. The more fiat you have the more value you put into it. Same as bitcoin you value it more important especially if you know how bitcoin works and grow.
Philosophically speaking. How bout if you have 1btc and you don't value it? So what's the purpose of having it? We value bitcoin because we know the future is into it.

Many people values bitcoin by means of demands, if you demand or buy more bitcoins because you use it conveniently in your online transactions  then you highly value it.
Actually, I value it like real money and gold because both of them has a high value on online market. In addition to that, some people value it as currency where they can exchange it in any materials. Lastly, I really value it as real money where I could become rich when I used it.

Bitcoin value is mostly driven by its community support. It does not have any intrinsic value. There is no central body to ensure its value. Its value increases and decreases with variation in demand for bitcoin.

Personally,i think that it deserves much more value than it is today.

You consider as higher its value and hold, the more returns you get and lower you think and sell, later you regret.

There is a proverb - the promotion in the campaign, every thing depends on its needs, its  value. If the object is less then its price will be higher then it is normal, exactly the bitcoin's price depends on bitcoin's demand. The demands of bitcoin are increasing day by day, and when the demand drops, the value will be reduced, it is real, if there is no specific value of bitcoin! ??? ??? 8)

I think that the value of BTC is some kind of social agreement. Of course there is some kind of inflation, but big news can change the price rapidly. However in the long term it is good to just keep your bitcoins in wallet and wait. Because the value will definitely increase.

yes so gan if we seek sustenance there must be obstacles, so we have to work hard to get it, especially in finding bitcoin the more the competition is very tight, and the rules to high.
because the bitcoin is increasingly rising up to high prices.

I don't think so. The most common way for people to value bitcoin right now is that bitcoin is treated as an asset and not as a currency itself. I believe that around 90% of bitcoin holder right now are either using bitcoin for trading or simply holding it, or they would convert it first into fiat before using the fiat currency for buying stuff. Either way, bitcoins are not used as a currency but as an asset.

Bitcoins derive their value just as anything else does: because people want them. Like any other currency, bitcoin follows the basic rules of supply and demand. Currencies have always been useful tools to make trade easier, enabling holders to convert goods into a widely tradable commodity through sale, then use the proceeds of that sale to purchase nearly anything they wish.

As you've mentioned, bitcoins are valued by the law of supply and demand. But nowadays, since bitcoin hype was so strong a few years ago, a lot of people went all in on bitcoins and they've become whales. Whales are dumpers and pumpers of bitcoins in a huge scale. They can affect bitcoin pricing in a blink of an eye.

I honestly confused on what the word "value" is you talking about.  But I will answer the two things I understand in your question. If you are asking about how the "value" of bitcoin happens,  well it is based or it increases or decreases based on the law of demand and supply.  The higher the demand the higher the value of bitcoin is and vice versa.  The higher the supply the lower the value of bitcoin is and again,  vice versa.
On the other hand,  if you are asking how am I value bitcoin,  well I value it so much.  It is because it is my found way on how to earn money even though I am still studying and without affecting my studies that much compared to work.  It makes me buy my needs and wants that is why I am grateful that I have found out his cryptopcurrency. Aside from it,  bitcoin is very accessible and more secured compare to paper money that is why I think the world needs to accept this currency.

It’s not acceptable for all users but Life will be boring who are connected fully with Bitcoin. Most of the uses use Bitcoin as the alternative investment and they invest only to get better profit. From these most of the user take bitcon as permanent job, they spend most of the time and invest. So who take it permanent way and love to involve with it, they must feel boring.  We know Bitcoin is a modern technology and its not much popular so there has less number of people who take it permanent way, but who believe it and in future they think to take it permanently, they also feel boring. I also feel boring though I don’t take it permanent basis but I love it and love to spend my time.

Time is gold as the saying goes on and on and on. Bitcoin, like most but not all cryptocurrencies, has value in its limited supply and the controlled pace at which new coins are issued. And as demand increase, but supply doesn't, each bitcoin has value. Each one should value bitcoin the way we value ourselves.

Our first assumption is that bitcoin will derive its value both from its use as a medium of exchange and as a store of value. As a footnote to this assumption, it should be stated that bitcoin's utility as a store of value is dependent on its utility as a medium of exchange.
