Title: Do you use BTC as a digital currency for paying online ?
Post by: luxcoin on October 18, 2017, 06:56:59 AM
It was one on the issue Satoshi saw the world needed it. But as far now it mainly use is trading for speculation by the newbie and holding by one who bought it years ago.

Of course it needs to be legalised FIRST somewhere. But after that a, will you buy something online and pay in BTC ?
Or it’s just a form of investment like gold was a decade ago ?

Let’s make and example: say you buy some goods online paying CCs.
After some time, your local Gov say it’s not legal at all, and the vender who hasn’t change the CCs you gave him, ask to be paid again with some other form of payments because he can’t use them anymore.
What the hell you can yell - but because he knows who you are by your address, you are tracked and sooner or later you have to refund him.

Besides being an investment I also often use bitcoin to buy something with online like buying google play gift card and credit phone. It helps me easier to buy it. But i do not see yet big online shop accepting Bitcoin as their payment It will be good if they are.

Talking BTC is like gold investment in the last decade is absolutely not true, as we know, gold is physical such as banknotes, while the BTC is completely different. I'd love to future digital currency (BTC) became a popular online payment method such as Visa now, in some cases, it would be helpful if Visa out of money ;)

In my country, there is no online shops or place that i usually go to buy things or buy services because i am more on like a simple lifestyle where i just spend money in clothes, gadget and other things and i can't see any place like online shops in my country that accept bitcoin so i don't use it as a money but as an investment as of now.

No, I use bitcoin as an investment for future. I can't pay online for services/goods in my country yet. I hope this will change as soon as possible, because the interest in btc rises up everyday. At the moment i can only trade a lot to increase my btc portfolio.

basically for me i used this as a payment online,
it's much more easy other that using Paypal and other stuff which is need a lot of time and effort to do it,
when i use something like this (paypal, okpay, etc) i need to find someone to fill it first afterwards spend it.
and it's reversible,in my country we need to find someone who has it and convert it to cash,
a lot of people get scammed in the process because it's reversible,
that is why i used Bitcoin for paying something, because it's very easy and i do not need to find someone to fill my order,
because we have a local exchanger.
and investment is my 2nd option for why i used this until now and for future.

I haven't used it as a payment method yet. I haven't seen it yet where i buy online, but even if i there was the option of BTC i wouldn't do it. I think that right now BTC has more value as an asset in trading or just investing rather than using it as a transaction coin.

This is the right way how the coin should be used. As a digital currency that will be accepted worldwide but most probably we haven't reached the phased of the coin where it will be applied as that. Most people are still seeing it as an asset like stocks that can be traded to others. Also not much of businesses are catering bitcoin yet. Maybe by the time that the coin is used as what it is meant for prices will be at 6 digit dollars.

If you want to experience spending your Bitcoin into something worthwhile, I strongly recommend you buy a VPN service. Most of them have Bitcoin as an option for payment.

Right now it's hard to spend bitcoin online, at least for small payments. I think most of us know the story of the developer who bought two pizzas back in 2010 using 10k bitcoin. Seven years is not that long, and those 10k BTC are now worth around 20M dollars. We actually don't have to go back all those years to see that using bitcoin for small payments is not a good idea, and that's why BTC right now is being used as an investment, and it's better to hold it than it is to spend it.

Legalizing bitcoin won't really change this right now, since the price will continue to represent the supply/demand ratio, but maybe it will help in terms of adoption, because more people will know about BTC, and will also trust it. Only after mass adoption happens the price will stabilize and we will be able to use it for "normal shopping".
There is still a long way to go until we get there, so right now I will continue to hold, and only use it for a payment, either online or with a crypto card, when I have to, and probably only for big payments.

I personally rarely use online services to get things or anything, so I never use bitcoin for payment, but if I get the goods from online and then the seller receives bitcoin, then I will also use bitcoin as a means of payment, because transact using bitcoin very practical and fast.

I do not know the online stores in my country that would accept payment in bitcoins. It is very convenient for me to use a regular credit card or the usual electronic wallets. And my bitcoins are stored in a crypto wallet and slowly but surely grow, this option suits me more.

I seldom use BTC to make payment for online purchases. There are not many online shops accepting Bitcoin as a payment method yet. And it has to depend on the payment amount, it doesn’t make sense to pay for a small amount such as $10 purchase due to the transaction fees.

We are not there at the point where everything you want to get can be facilitated by bitcoin but is a gradual process after all, fiat didn't get there after 10 years. However, I have seen some services made available using bitcoin for example recharging your phone directly, card services which makes you buy anything so far there is Visa or MasterCard acceptance, and above all ability to convert into fiat easily which is what mattered to me from there, I can then get anything I want to get with less stress.

It seems to me that the inability to buy goods directly with bitcoin is the biggest problem which can lead to death of bitcoin. I haven't bought anything with bitcoins. Is it more profitable to transfer bitcoins into Fiat currency and make purchases anywhere. The cost of small transactions is too high to make purchases with bitcoin.

In the last few days I used bitcoins to buy things online, for example several shirts, and a new cell phone because I needed it (since mine was too old haha). I think that most people use it to buy online since it is difficult to buy in physical stores since there are not many stores that accept bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies, and it needs to be changed because bitcoin diserves to be accepted everywhere..

I'm not sure about the direct acceptance of bitcoin in online as well physical stores. The market for bitcoin increasing slowly, so based on the fact I use bitcoin to fiat and then spend upon shopping as well online payment needs. In future this will change when online stores provide with a separate gateway for bitcoin payment.

Well, there aren't many options in most countries regarding the payment of Bitcoins , where as digitized world do gives an opportunity to buy things in the form of international online means, but you can't buy anything from bitcoins from your locality as such.
There are countries where even after being legal still the trade in which bitcoins is used as a means of payment is limited to person to person , there isn't any companies or online sites accepting bitcoins so what most of you can do is to encash them and then use it in the form of your local currency.

i think we don't have to waiting to be legalised first to use bitcoin because we can now already use bitcoin for buying something online and in other country, we can buy directly in local store. personally i am using bitcoin to buy what i want by online because in here, there is not local store accepting bitcoin and i spend my btc to pay something like paye one services in online, buy tickets from local website and else. bitcoin is different than gold and gold have physical form while bitcoin don't have and people will prefer gold than bitcoin because they don't know anything about bitcoin.

I think you can still use Bitcoin for online transactions. It is the same as the transactions using dollar and other currency. The key of doing transaction in the web is : Make sure your seller is legit and not scam. How to verify that person is a honest person ? You can ask through forum online and facebook groups. In my country, we have the most trusted online forum that can verify all people who do transactions online.

I not having that much bitcoin where I can buy products on online by paying bitcoin as payment more. Currently I am holding bitcoin as a asset where each day price is increase and also I am investing some of my holding to altcoins because it’s right time to invest on altcoins.

Same as me. I only use Bitcoin as an investment. But I do not invest in Alt because I do not really trust Alt. Maybe I only trust ETH for other crypto than BTC.

Satoshi did really create bitcoin solely for peer 2 peer transaction but besides on that purpose bitcoin can really be used on investment which all of us knows about that thing. It can really give the opportunity to make money on just simply on holding it.For now I don't actively spend it on online stuff since I do have target on accumulating bitcoins as much as I can.We do have all hopes on getting rich with bitcoin.

I’m now stay at home and saving myself from hassle traffic and time consuming fall in line in counters and for security purposes. This is what bitcoin brings to everyone who believes in it, to trust bitcoin is like giving yourself a good and easy life.

No, and the only possible case where I can imagine doing so in the near future is buying VPS or VPN anonymously. Credit cards are much more convenient for online shopping. BTC transactions are very slow and the fees are high (or at least were before the Segwit). I think of BTC as an investment only, a kind of "digital gold".

Bitcoin is a virtual currency developed in 2009 by someone under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto. This currency is like Dollar, but only available in the digital world. The concept may sound like eGold, though it is actually much different. and for now the possibility of BTC only makes for investment tools like gold, because as a means of payment it is still very difficult in the country where I live it because some companies have not made a payment through Bitcoin.

As per now no online site in my country accepts bitcoins as a mode of payment. So I cannot use bitcoins to buy things online .
Here bitcoins are not considered legal neither they are considered illegal , it's just that the majority doesn't know about it , miners are free to mine and the users use it , the government has nothing to do with crypto currencies here .
If any site or company starts accepting bitcoin I would surely prefer bitcoins over fiat to buy my products.
Now many people including me are using btc as a currency for payment in steam or refilling our steam wallet.

There is something that will halt me to use bitcoin and any other type of altcoins as currency. It is due to my government policy regarding cryptocurrency. They aren't allow the use of cryptocurrency as a payment method. And if I break it and got caught, I could be in trouble. Although there has been no concrete action from the government, but still, using bitcoin as a means of payment can cause problems later on. So I must try to avoid it.

as a note :
buying, selling and storing crypto currency are allowed.

Its something better than gold though I won't advice you buy in bitcoins because you'd start regretting soon after payment that you would have held the coins and it would have been worth much more. Its better you just leave it as a form of investment and then cash out on it once you're satisfied with the accrued profit. Else you can leave it and watch your investment grow.

You should know that bitcoin transactions are not completely anonymous. And why do you think that credit cards are more convenient for shopping than bitcoin? Transactions made through credit cards can be rejected anytime. You credit card information can be stolen without you noticing and others can easily spend your cash. Credit cards always links to you, so no anonymity for you. And sometimes some regions won't accept your card if you are from a different region. You need to fill too much information before you can transact using your card. Too much hassle compared to bitcoin in my opinion.

Honestly no, I do not use bitcoin for online shopping. Yes, initially it was thought of as currency for payment, but I prefer to use it as an investment in long term. So I see a lot more prospects for increasing my capital. And then I'll use it in my purchases with pleasure. :)
I think the only opportunity we have is to use bitcoin for online shopping, in fact in my area there is no such offline shop where we can use bitcoin for shopping and for any other purpose.

Of course it needs to be legalised FIRST somewhere. But after that a, will you buy something online and pay in BTC ?
Or it’s just a form of investment like gold was a decade ago ?
If you want to purchase things with bitcoin, the first thing you must do is to do a simple google search and you will get a list of sites and companies that accepts bitcoin as a mode of payment,if you want to purchase amazon products then there is purse.io and newegg.com also accepts bitcoin and some of the major payment platforms like netellar accepts bitcoin through bitpay, so there are many options to buy things with bitcoin.

The things is, there are only a few merchants that accepts bitcoin.  I would choose using bitcoin than credit card if the option is available.

Besides being an investment I also often use bitcoin to buy something with online like buying google play gift card and credit phone. It helps me easier to buy it. But i do not see yet big online shop accepting Bitcoin as their payment It will be good if they are.
Aren't you afraid mate to lose the cost-opportunity ?
I mean when you bought the playgift card for example 2 months ago, now you can buy it one more withe the same amount of BTC !
That's something I never want to happen to me.
Of course when it's something small I can close an eye and nothing happens, but what if I want to buy something more expensive ? ???

It is true that it was created as a currency for online transactions but it really did not solve anything. For me it just paved the way for online drug dealings more easy for people who never want to be caught. But overall I don't see all online stores accepting Bitcoin. I mainly see Bitcoin as some sort of money making asset in which all people are trying to profit from it and some people don't even use it as a currency anymore because of its transaction fees.

If it's online, there are already websites or shopping sites that accepts Bitcoin as a payment. The only issue is in regular stores or retailers. Since there are still countries where Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency are not yet legal, it is becoming limited only for those who are in countries where it is legal, to be used as a normal currency. It can still be used in countries even if it is not yet legal but not directly, meaning, they will need to convert it first into fiat.

I personally don’t think in that way.
If you want to do illegal thing you can still pay and be paid with cash, and mainly they still do it.
The real problem for other centralised circuit payment was their fee, just too high for retailers and for small amount.
So BTC can solve this problem.
And yet, it’s not totally anonimous so..

I do not think that people now often use bitcoin to make purchases. To do this, it is necessary to have an extensive infrastructure that allows such purchases. Now they are very few. Sometimes something can be ordered through the Internet, but this is not enough. Now bitcoin is most often used as a means of storing value. Some people use it for trading on the stock exchange.

So far i only use bitcoin to buy something online once, but that's because it's very hard to find the shop that accept bitcoin as payment option. Most of them only accept credit card or paypal so i can't use bitcoin there. Hope this will change in the following years with more adoption.

There is no enough infrastructure as well as options to use Bitcoin worldwide as a currency. Moreover, people never prefer Bitcoin as a currency but investment to grow their money. Replacing fiat in currency use is still not possible for cryptocurrencies because of added fees, less utility and transaction speed. And even people are not willing to use their BTC for everyday transactions.

The government in my country said that they will legalize Bitcoin in next 2 years but don't know how long it will take for this one.

That is not the real reason for majority of the websites not accepting bitcoin at this moment, the price of bitcoin has a huge fluctuation and the price could go up and down in a single day and that it is a real risk for the portals or business to start accepting it,if we could see more front ends that could help them then they would accept that.

As of now I am using btc to pay bill, buy cellphone load(recharge in other countries ), and shop online. And for your information gold was used as a currency back in the olden days and not as an investment like it is today. If btc is legalized there is a chance that it will be regulated and the bad part is that they can put tax in it once legalized and that is not a good thing so I would rather have bitcoin as it is.

I mainly hold my Bitcoin in my wallet rather than use it for paying online transactions. Because if I have other options to pay online then I will use it first before using my Bitcoin as using it right now will be a total waste of opportunity. Decreasing the Bitcoin I am holding will weaken my position of price appreciation. Right now when the Bulls are dominating the market it is better to wait rather than to use what you have or rather sell it at an early stage of the trend.

There are a number of large gaming industries who are starting to accept bitcoin as a payment like Steam, Blizzard, etc. These show a strong example on how bitcoin can influence large organizations into using it as an alternative payment for credits. This reflects its success throughout the years and shows a good-sign on how bitcoin may attract not only the investment perspective but also the gaming perspective. Lastly, due to its flexible nature of a digital currency, it also has the potential of gaining new retailers or organizations that exist in the internet. With these, this may further strengthen its price which shows a positive sign on the upcoming future.

There are 2 big online markets similar to how Amazon work and both accept bitcoin. I always spend bitcoin there when I can. There are a few other smaller businesses accepting it through a payment processor like bitpay that way the people selling don't need to know how bitcoin works because they will be paid by the third party company you pay the bitcoins to and they get paid however they want. It makes it much safer then sending straight away to the seller.

Since there are occasions that can really be hassle or time consuming if i go the normal way of depositing my money into my account then paying it with the aid of third party.
The only problem with bitcoin being used for online payment is that there is not that much of entities that accepts bitcoin as a term of payment.  Hopefully this number will soon increase.

I sometimes use bitcoin as payment in online stores especially when it is accepted. I am also paying bitcoin whenever I buy mobile credits online. I can do that with the exchanger I'm using. I can also pay bills like electricity and water bills. And soon, for sure, bitcoin will be accepted in major online stores. Bitcoin will become one of the major payment method.

Yes, bitcoin is used and a purpose to pay online transactions, so do I, I am paying people who render their service in exchange of few bitcoin. This is the best method to pay people than using bank payment. There are a lot of complications involved in bank transcations while the bitcoin transcation is simple and fast.

You just gave me the idea for playing online using BTC. And yes if it get legalized then of course we'll use BTC for buying something online . But for now i am saving it for further use and waiting for it to rise more. :P

That's exactly why I think many people see it like a saving for the future, just like it was gold a few decades ago.
The issue is that we NEED a new kind of payment which is low in the fees, easy to handle and designed to be used online for big as small transaction.

Yes i personally use it as my digital currency for paying online. I use it to send money to someone, to pay bills, and to buy something online. I prefered to use it because its fast and the process is very simple. It also amazing that you can buy something online without using the actual money.

Great job buddy! We as community have the power to change something in the world. And just spread that usability and make other knowing that there is actually another kind of way to pay, and it's more secure, not centralised by any power and it could use all over the world without any extra fee it's something very useful.
I think like 85% of the world does not still know what a BTC really is..

I see. And that what it quite scared me of. I mean it was not intended to be ONLY as repair for hyperinflation and to store value like gold was but more you use it ( and I don't necessary refer to just trade on exchanges) more it spreads around the world and make more visibile to everyone so it can seriously become the first and only worldwide currency accepted everywhere.

But nowadays I agree with you it's mostly use to store value, unfortunately.

I've never used BTC as a digital currency in any form. I've only bought some in the hopes that some day I will. It is amazing how much Bitcoin's price has increased over time. The fact that it is going up so high may make people weary of spending it. When something raises in value over time, people start developing a hoard mentality. When it starts to level out I expect more people to be active with spending and receiving bitcoin.

there are very few websites nowaday accept paying bitcoin, because bitcoin is less popular than paper money so websites dont want to use bitcoin because they think it is not worthy to waste money for digital currency.
That is not the real reason for majority of the websites not accepting bitcoin at this moment, the price of bitcoin has a huge fluctuation and the price could go up and down in a single day and that it is a real risk for the portals or business to start accepting it,if we could see more front ends that could help them then they would accept that.

I see..But more and more option there has been in the market to exchange it in fiat if you are an online shop's owner like Bitpay for example. I think I read it to let an e-commerce to accept Criptocurrencies and to trade it as soon as the transaction takes place. So for example it you sell any goods for 5$ and you want to play in BTC, it let you to pay with "that-moment-price" with a very low fee and the merchant receive the 5$ less fee in his wallet.

That a way if someone want to pay in BTC and the owner is scared about its fluctuation and want to be paid in fiat.

I live in a country where you can pay some stuff using bitcoin, I can even pay my bills using my bitcoin after I converted it to my local purchase so I can still consider it as bitcoin purchase, in my opinion as long as you acquired something using bitcoin although converted  to local currency it is still bitcoin purchase.

Which are these 2 online markets that you are talking about ?
I totally agree with you with BitPay - every store owner needs to start accept it !

I see your point but what will the merchant get from it other than more customer base, I think exchanging bitcoin directly after receiving it from a customer is a non profitable way, however taking that and adding it to a pool and saving it until a fork comes is a better strategy because the whole idea behind earning bitcoin is to save it so you can make profit from its price increase.

Definitely I don't use BTC as for payment online because I don't have an important thing to buy and also, the quality is not satisfying. Most of the time I use bitcoin as fiat after it has been a digitized currency for some weeks in my wallet. Through physical money,I can see and touch the products that can't be possible online. I prefer touching and looking at the products physically rather than just seen on screen.

I only use Bitcoin for paying for things online. So far I have bought online from local sources the following. Xbox, ps3, console accessories like guns and memory cards. Electronics, printer, 3d printer, video games, clothing, coffee, coffee machine, PC hardware and many many other things and had it sent to my doorstep paid fully in bitcoin. I have also received refunds back in Bitcoin as well so it works well and has buyer protection. The refund o got was due to a transaction not being picked up on their side. They fixed it right away after I contacted them. I had my bitcoins refunded by the next morning. Also the emailed to follow up on my refund a couple of days later. This just goes to show Bitcoin is viable and works well.

That was and have to be the goal to BTC and not just speculation and we have been seen for far by many players. Anyway it would be such a easy way to pay someone or something offline too. We need it as digital currency worldwide - we are just tired of those national currencies you have to exchange ( and pay large fee to the banks ) when you travel abroad  >:(

You got the point man!
That's the two opposite way of thinking that could cause an internal fight against who are willing to use it and those who instead wants only to hold it or speculate from it.

I personally think Satoshi had in his mind to create a digital currencies and make it spread all over the world to BE USED in every day life and to make it become more and more popular to at the end replace old local centralised currency.

Something however has been changed and we will see more in the next months hopefully  ;)

Actually I had already done paying using bitcoins on a certain game currency and it does not give me any issues on those transactions. When dealing on online transactions, I think using bitcoins was one of the best choice for paying online or digital goods and had only minimal problems which is only the delay(in just my own experience only).

I haven't used it as a payment method yet. I haven't seen it yet where i buy online, but even if i there was the option of BTC i wouldn't do it. I think that right now BTC has more value as an asset in trading or just investing rather than using it as a transaction coin.

I agree and also haven't used bitcoin as a payment method on buying/paying online, But you can use bitcoin as a digital currency for paying online. In my country, there is no online shops or place that i usually go to buy things or buy services because i am more on like a simple lifestyle where i just spend money in clothes, gadget and things what I need in my everyday life. I use bitcoin also as an investment for future.

I see the problem buddy.
That's what makes it only a conventional form of asset as now is. I mean if you have to convert it everytime in fiat, it does not make any sense because it first was concept as digital currency as that is the way we must use it.
The problem is the Governments and its control.

i never buy stuff on internet with bitcoin. if i have one i will exchange to regular money.
in my country you can make transaction use bitcoin just with people that accept bitcoin itself.

I've tried person to person purchase with btc already and it's a lot more convenient than other options. Though i don't think there are a lot of retailers or businesses that would transact with you this way yet

You are right. As for now, there isn't such a big opportunity for us to spend it online. As Giant Ecommerce would start accept it, you'll see how much we use it  :o :o
For now just HODL  ;D ;D

Anyway we cannot think any governments take first step to make it legal currency 'cause they think they can only lose taxes money

Well bitcoin is a digital currency but most of sites and people do not accept bitcoin. They do not believe in bitcoin due to lack of knowledge and proper guidance. It is used for investments but it is not accepted for online shopping. But the speed with which it is progressing one day each shop and site will accept payment in bitcoin

Great point of view man.
You know, the gateway options for Cryptocurrencies already exist, but their poor knowledge does make they cannot integrate that option in their local e-shops.

I think personally, that buying something immaterial such as games is much easier for them, because there is no good to deliver and also for anonymous thing. We'll see something big happen in the near future..

Stay tuned  ;D :D

Few times, I used BTC directly to pay for things
Most of the time; I am using it 'indirectly' through my Debit Cryto Card (that I load with BTC or other ALT and then be able to use it as any other card)

Well bitcoin is supposed to be a currency but it's really not being used as such, and I don't blame people. Essentially you would have to pay a 5$ fee for a 2$ coffee, for example, which is stupid. You can't really use bitcoin right now for small purchases, it just doesn't work, there are solutions to this, of course but they take time. My prediction is that when cryptos are actually used as currency, we will not see bitcoin as the top one, there will probably be a lot of new cryptos with new technology that will take over bitcoin.

BTC was designed to be used, not to be held as an asset, unfortunately we have gone past that point, it will most likely remain as an investment until it finally dies overthrown by a better coin.

This is a temporary phenomenon (I hope). Whenever there is a lot of activity, blocks tend to become full and transaction fees shoot up. Hopefully, the dust will settle down and things will go back to normal. people usually won't have a problem paying 0.1mbtc as fees.

Well as long as bitcoin price is continously rising, we can really expect a high fees if we based on USD values on it. Actually Im fine now with BTC0.0005 to BTC0.001 fees of some web exchanges because I must agree to that since I really need to used their exchange services. And since bitcoin price is currently on uptrend, the value of BTC0.001 is rising too.

When bitcoin price is till low and I am still a newbie, I just use my bitcoin to pay creditcard bills, utilities and topping up my phone.  I used my btc and now I am regretting it.  If I just only keep all of them before, maybe now my future is secured.

They have to fix it somehow otherwise we can not afford it - I don't know actually how but there are out pleanty of Crypto more flexible , with less fees and definatly faster to approve a node.

Bitcoin cash for example it's much much faster..
Of coure they forked for it and it's supposed to solve that problem

We crossed that point to use BTC as digital currency, and as it is now I can see only as a investment like other one of the old world.
We'll see other Cryptos to take place in the top charts and I think that the ones who can solve these problem LOW FEES, FAST TRANSACTION, RELIABLE , ANONYMOUS will definaly started to be sedn as digital wordwide currency

As a student, bitcoin is really useful for us to use in payments. We can use bitcoin to pay school tuition fees which lets us avoid long lines that moves without assurance. Sometimes the guards cuts the line and makes a lot of students angry. Base on my experience, i haved used bitcoin to pay something that i have bought online but i need to redeem or get my money from bitcoin thru a bank account. I think if bitcoin is legalized in our country, online payments with bitcoin would be possible.

I've experience that long lines when i was still a student and it is very annoying really. Good thing now that there is a website in my country where in i can easily exchange Bitcoin to Cash and from that i can pay bills like tuition fee, electric bills, water bills with the same website. I am using that for paying my electric bills and it is very useful because i don't need to go out anymore to pay those kind of bills.

With relatively high bitcoin fluctuations, there will be a feeling of affection when we have to use it as a means of payment. It would be wise, imo, that in transactions (selling / buying goods and services) we keep using fiat. And treating bitcoin remains as an investment.

I agree with you, we should just keep or remain our bitcoin as an investment or an asset because it will help us to continue earning money in terms of fiat and just use our fiat to make transactions or payments because it is better to use it since it is fixed and it is not volatile like bitcoin. The wise decision right now is just to hold bitcoin and don't do anything with it until the price satisfies you and just sell.

I have used Bitcoins to make purchases at Overstock.com but I mostly hold what I have. It’s hard to justify spending Bitcoins when the value could double in a matter of months.

There’s also the issue of fees that add to the cost of using Bitcoin as a method of payment. Until that issue is resolved, I think Bitcoin will mostly be used as an investment and a store of value. That may be all it ever is which is fine as long as the price keeps going up or at least doesn’t back track.

yes sometimes I use bitcoin currency for online shopping that payments already using bitcoin facility, but I use bitcoin more often to trade, and it is true bitcoin owned by many people who bought it many years ago and invest it, and finally who invest bitcoin very satisfactory results.
Actually, I always used as currency and I usually it in online shopping and I prefer to used as payment than cash. In addition, I also often used in trading so that I could gain high income and we all know trading is the best sources of income. I hope all online shop will accept bitcoin as a payment of their costumer.
Now many people are investing in bitcoin, probably because of its expensive price and a very busy market with bitcoin trading Moreover the demand for bitcoin is many and always increases every year.

That's amazing buddy.
You saw and test the benefit of the last technology and its distuption  8)
Skipping lines is a way to earn time

It was one on the issue Satoshi saw the world needed it. But as far now it mainly use is trading for speculation by the newbie and holding by one who bought it years ago.

Of course it needs to be legalised FIRST somewhere. But after that a, will you buy something online and pay in BTC ?
Or it’s just a form of investment like gold was a decade ago ?

:) Hi, there luxcoin! As far as I know, there are only around seven countries that prohibit the use of cryptocurrencies. I agree with you stating Satoshi's aim of creating an alternative payment for internet commerce. Currently that dream is little by little realize as more company embrace the technological change of accepting cryptocurrency big names includes Microsoft, Newegg, Steam, and much more. However, most of the bitcoin holder prefer to earn more bitcoin rather than spend it which become the reason why most of the bitcoin transactions are conducted in the investment.    ;)

Yes, you're right! Unfortunally it is seen majority as form of investment right now and not used as every day digital form of payments.
The reason we mentioned before are basically these: cost of fees, time to block, be recognised legal by local goverments and its value that change costantly.

The next months are crucial and I bet we'll see something great changing ;)

I don't get it when people talk about bitcoin being accepted or not in a country. I think it is important to note that bitcnin is virtual and is only used in virtual space which spans beyond the physical borders of any country. So it can be used in any country fro any location and that possibility lies with the transacting parties only. In my country many online merchants accepts bitcoin, but that doesn't make bitcoin legal or the transactions illegal here. If the acceptance or legality of bitcoin is here misconstrued to mean official adoption by a country then I am afraid bitcoin is not legal any where in the world and may never be since no country would want to accomodte 2 legal tenders

I got your point.
That was scared most of the holder from speding it: it value will continue growth and now we see just as an investment and not like a form of payment.

I believe that correct now BTC has more an incentive as a benefit in exchanging or simply contributing instead of utilizing it as an exchange coin.

i think the world got greedier and we all want to hold it as an investment rather than a day to day currency which we will use to make micro payments. I for instance only spend a few satoshis when i want to hire a service online or send  some money to a friend or colleague or some rare emergencies. It's just not worth spending them now and paying huge fees  for little transactions than holding them for a bigger amount in future.

I think now that BTC has more value as a trading asset or just investing instead of using it as a trading coin, confirmation of BTC as a transaction is slow and inappropriate.

This is a problem that in under developed and developing countries, bitcoin is not much common. Moreover this countries have many issues to be resolved before making these currencies common especially bitcoin. I am also from developing country and here only limited people know about bitcoin and in this way, they are really making good money with bitcoin. People from developed world are using it commonly.

Unfortunately for many people it is seen too much like form of investment so they can not spend it to buy thing but only for trading.

Think about what it is right now when you pay with credit cards: it only takes seconds. And for merchants it's trusted because they can be anyway pay even something will go wrong after the payment.
We need a solution right now, otherwise BTC will not be see anymore as a form of payment but only investment

Well I guess it is much faster than paying falling in line. Paying through online using bitcoin is of course could less your effort, less wasting time travelling to the department store just to pay bills or anything. When it comes to connection well I guess its all up to your internet connection, the problem is in your connection not in bitcoin itself.

price changes fast (it is change every hour), fee (you can send it with 1$ and next day 10$) and few trust sites accept bitcoin

It was really the main motto of Satoshi Nakamoto to reduce or minimise the problems of common people. That is why he (?) introduced bitcoin a cryptocurrency. People who have digital payment facilities available in their countries are doing them same in their day to day life. But people from third world countries or some African countries are ready to use bitcoins, but lack of basic infrastructure facilities like internet, mobile wallets etc. preventing them from using bitcoin. In some countries the government itself is against use of bitcoins. So people are helpless.

I did it recently, I bought a hardware wallet and paid with bitcoin, but I’ve been looking for places to spend my bitcoins directly, without converting them into fiat, and I don’t have many options available. I don’t plan to spend many coins, though, as I think it will be more profitable to hold them, and that is what happening today: not many merchants accepting bitcoin and bitcoin profitability make people hold their coins instead of spending them. Maybe next year with lightning network this will be solved.

While that is true on "normal" days, higher demand could derail it pretty quickly. Take the recent days for example. There are so many people trying to transact that the mempool got spammed. Even setting a high fee with an accelerator could take a while to confirm. I tend to stay away from using it at times like this, but yeah my transactions are pretty fast otherwise.

If you are using it now for your financial transactions on a daily basis ,then you would be spending a huge amount of money as transaction fees and with the price so high for every transaction you have to give a good amount of money,if not you have to plan your transaction per day and you have to figure it out to send them to everyone at once so that you can cut down on your transaction fees. :P

I think nowadays it such a difficult to pay online even small amount with BTC 'cause it ask you more fee than probably what you are buying - and there are almost 500k transaction on hold to be approved. That makes BTC quite difficult to be used in everyday life. So people instead are switching to other cryptos to exchange their money.

i already using bitcoin to trading and do some project bounty to earn money from bitcoin..

Yes many times.

As I am a webmaster and found A-Ads, AdBit, CoinURL and few other advertising networks which accepts Bitcoin payments to offer advertising services globally. I initially start with small amount of Bitcoins spending for running advertising campaigns successfully. It was great experience. Since from then I used Bitcoins for my domain and hosting services as Namecheap accept Bitcoin payments. After then for making recharge of Cell phones via Bitrefill many time.

But its a past with amazing experience, Now I am focusing on HODL.

That's great. I mean everyone who has been having Bitcoin for years has used in someway and they realised that is pretty awesome not to depend anymore from banks. That is really why is invented.

But when it started growing everyone thought it would be wise to hold it instead use it - so the main reason it first was thought makes no more sense. We can say it's a new gold and I go along with that idea. But as for now, if they does not resolve the scalability issue we cannot think we can use it as a form of daylife payment

That's true. And as a matter of fact the revolution of this new era comes from the third world countries that have enough of all that and start to think outside the box and they want their freedom ( if they ever have one) back from the governments and political corrupted.

We are living a moment of history here, and probably the Mark's theory would eventually realise - redistribution of the power - give power to the people. I know it's hard sentences but I really hope it becomes real because we all need it.

DO NOT TRUST BANKS ANYMORE

hi

I think btc is hard to use to pay online because its speed is too slow.
are you think so?

No we don't think so. Bitcoin is mainly used online to pay online. Most of the companies accept the first confirmation and the 1st confirmation usually takes 10 to 15 mins if you pay the normal default fee. By paying a little more higher fee,  tx can be confirmed much earlier also. Also bitcoin is into transformation through forks and soon this issue of slow confirmation will be solved forever as more larger blocks would be there meaning much earlier confirmations.

That's true. They have to fix that issue if the community of Bitcoin wants to continue to be number 1 of the cryptocurrency. It's a shame you have to set high fees to make them to consider to mine your transaction instead others.

Now it is non economy to use bitcoins because it expensive to pay bitcoins, due to the very high transactions fee and the time it takes to get confirmations. It is simple to pay other fiats.

Yes, I use bitcoin in my daily financial transaction since it helps me to manage my finances and provides me convenience.
Through the help of bitcoin I become more efficient and productive in my all task.

You're right!
That's a real and big problem BTC is facing today. However I'm quite optimist to think they'll resolve the scalability issue sooner or later so we can reconsider to use it like we used to do years ago when it wasn't such mainstream.

You pointed out a great example how to reduce fees nowadays: you have plan your transaction to put on them on single one so you can save such a fees! But you can only do that if you do not have to pay someone directly or online because they of course want to be paid when you purchase your order.

I used to use it to buy things online but after the increase in value recent months i stopped using it anymore. The last time i use bitcoin is when i use it to buy ledger nano s. Right now bitcoin is only for investment for me because i feel like it's a waste to use it as payment option.

I have used LTC and BCH for making payments, but I am yet to use Bitcoins for the same. And now it is quite difficult to use Bitcoins, due to the very high transaction fee and the time it takes to get confirmations.

Yes, you're definitely stuck on the hole while you're waiting your transaction to be mined.
And that is no more tolerated.

I used to use BTC for common transactions, but that was like a year or two ago. These days the transaction fees (and subsequently confirmation times for "sane" transactions) are so high that I find it's not worth the effort. ETH transactions were ok until cryptokitties came out, but then it became similar to BTC.

The best options I see now are BCH, LTC, and XMR.

Up until now, I never used a single bitcoin for paying online. What i have done with my bitcoin is holding for 90% of times, and 10% of times i used it to exchange it to fiat currency. Well, it is because in my country, there are no vendors or market that accepts bitcoin as a payment system.
What you said is true, bitcoin needs to be legalised first before it can be used as a online payment system. Then there must be an update in the core system to make the transaction blazingly fast and the fees is acceptable for a daily transaction, because if many country make bitcoin as a legal payment system, believe me, the transaction amount will be so much more than we have on this Christmas.
In my opinion, it is better to make the transaction fast and fees acceptable first before making bitcoin as an online payment system. If this to be happen, many country will recognize it and slowly will accept bitcoin. As the purpose and dream of bitcoin is to be the money that can be used everywhere, everytime, in a fast and short time transaction.

Meanwhile I agree with you - it's not worth using them as a payment currency for everyday transaction. They need to do something otherwise it only can be used by who are willing to pay huge fees to their transaction to take place and that is possible only if the amount is biiiiiigggg.

Yes it is, but the transaction could be more expensive than the price of the goods you'll buy. And that's not exactely what Nakamoto thought to bring in the world: another speculation thing!
It needs to stabilise so everyone can use it wherever they want because it will be accettable more and more in shops online but also offline.

So for now of course it's hard to spend because we think to loose money and profitzz

Of course thats what crypto currencies are develop for. To make the transaction speedy and less hassle. Im sure you would like to pay in BTC also if the web store is over seas. I think it is more safer than putting credit card infos online. Gold and BTC have similarities. Theyre both limited but unlike GOLD, BTC price depends on how much demand we have. :)

That's great. I mean it was meant to be a digital currency to be spent and you report an excellent example of how to use it. However it's more and more difficult to use it because of time to approve the block. Hopefully they will resolve this issue sooner or later ( and not with an Hard fork !! ). Otherwise other Cryptos will overtake BTC because they are easier to use and be accepted even if we all know that Bitcoin was the first of its kind.

Definitely true. You got the point. However the majority of people does not understand how it works and what makes it appreciated and increase the value. One of the main Sathosi's goal was to reduce the fees of the transaction and not depend to central authority anymore. For the second point we are free with BTC but the fees nowadays are even more expensive that traditional market so it needs to be changed. We'll see what 2018 bring to us but I think many people loses their sympathy to BTC and instead go to other cryptos because of that.

I see your point. Hopefully with Segwit2x something will change..
Meanwhile I agree with you - it's not worth using them as a payment currency for everyday transaction. They need to do something otherwise it only can be used by who are willing to pay huge fees to their transaction to take place and that is possible only if the amount is biiiiiigggg.

Can we say that is equal to gold right now?
Obviously me too you use Bitcoin, the digital currency for paying online in purchasing books and also playing games. There are many sites on internet which are accepting bitcoin for payment. That is the easiest way of payment and very secure and fast too. The Bitcoin is the only crypto currency which is much popular in every field of life in the world. The future of Bitcoin is too bright. I am also use Bitcoin for paying fare of taxi.

My country has not yet centralized BTC because of some security issues, so I never used any BTC as a digital currency for paying only but this could be my dream when I need not to convert BTC into my local currency as use it as it is. There are still many countries who has legalized BTC and accepted BTC as a mode of payment and the millions of fan following and continuously increasing popularity would centralize the BTC all around the world and then we can use BTC as a mode of payment

I was actually an investor and a user of bitcoin for 2 years already , i may say that i am one of the one who uses it for paying like bills . It is very convenient since i don't need to go to different different offices just to pay bills , now i can it online at home . Second i use bitcoin for buying prepaid load , i can also sell prepaid load to the buyers and get profit as well , i can also send remittances to my love ones in different part of our country using bitcoin , i can also use it for online shopping and wait for it until the item get delivered at home . Everything can be done with bitcoin without any hassle , stress free , and very convenient , you can also do work at home with bitcoin just hold your bitcoin and get profit . Bitcoin do really made my life so easy i don't need to fall in line just to pay bills . I can pay them on time

Thanks mate for your sharing.
That made me think of how much time we used to spend in line just waiting to pay something - it's so olddd!!! And I continue seeing people on the Post waiting their turn instead paying bills online. I mean come on, even if you don't have or don't want to use BTC, you got to have a prepaid or internet bank account for daylife bills.

BUt when you have to send the money abroad Cryptos are the best, the easiest and most profitable way to do it.

Many Thanks Sathosi  ;) ;)

For me, I will not. Since I do also have a saving in terms of fiat, I will just tend to use those because keeping and holding Bitcoin will be much more beneficial rather than spending it just to pay your online payments for the products or services you have purchased. There is already COD or cash on delivery so there is no such issue on that although the processing will take time before the success, it will be better rather than paying it with cryptocurrency which has the potential to grow even larger quantity.

In my opinion, it should be used the way the great Satoshi wanted it to be. It's good to consider it as a form of long term investment but it won't hurt to use it in different purposes such as paying bills and stuff. Just like a fiat currency but a decentralized one. In that way, the circulation will go on and it will be healthy for btc as a cryptocurrency. Personally, I use btc in many ways such as paying house bills, transacting with other people online and so on.

At the moment, bitcoin is more profitable just as an investment, as there are very few places where you can spend bitcoin. And now the speed of the transaction and the commission for it leave much to be desired.

I think that I will be using bitcoin for investment for long-term since you can gain much profit in investing something. Of course, I am aware of the risk that I might take. It is also possible that I will be using bitcoin to shop online. But let's just see if the time comes wherein the main payment for online shopping is bitcoin.

At this point in time, I use bitcoin only for earning on stock exchanges. Bitcoin as a currency has not yet received sufficient development, mainly due to technical nuances. But this should happen in 5-7 years, I think so.

The core principle of Bitcoin states that Bitcoin is a payment system but since it is still in the early phase, most of the people are looking to exploit the opportunities. I don't think that getting rewards in this way is bad or unethical but I deeply believe that we should look at it as a payment system in the first place and work according it. Speculation is affecting the core values of it in my honest opinion. I would definitely use Bitcoin as a payment system but we need to find solutions for the issues like high transaction fees and confirmation time.

Most of the banks here in our country offers digital money that give you convenience because it offers services similar to bitcoin. The only inconvenience that I see is that you have to go through the bank for you to have funds in it, and banking here is hell. You'll have to allot at least 2 hours for you to finish doing bank transactions.

Luckily we have a wallet application that accepts bitcoin as payment then you can convert it into digital money. After that you can easily pay your bills, send money, buy prepaid loads and even top up some online games.

Actually, that is valid. There is an option where Bitcoin can be used as payment, directly if ot is legal to your country and needs convertion of fiat if it is not. My friend uses that option to oay their bills and it is less time consuming than to go on the payment centers. Maybe in the future, it will be applied to most of the countries.

I use more the btc to operate, for the exchange of transactions to fiat money, but also used a couple of times for online purchases. The problem with online shopping is that not all companies, shops, businesses, accept payment with bitcoin and that causes an impossibility to think about making mass purchases ... On this same topic, is it true that some clothing stores accept the payment of btc? I read it on the web but I can not believe it at all.

Occasionally I dare to use bitcoin to make transfers or to invest in different online business systems, as long as the offer is serious and highly convenient, otherwise I do not think it is appropriate to pay the high fees that have been charged for a long time to carry out these transfers, although recently I have seen with pleasure that fees seem to be going down and this could encourage me to use my coins more frequently.

Now it is still quite difficult to produce some not very expensive household purchases in bitcoin. First, the infrastructure is still poorly developed for this, and secondly, bitcoin is now very slow, with hanging transactions and large fees and this makes it impossible to use it for online purchases. When bitcoin eliminates its shortcomings, only then it will be possible to think about buying everyday goods and services with the calculation in bitcoin. Now basically bitcoin is used as a means of accumulating value. If it is necessary to partially use it, it is translated in the necessary amounts into the national currency.

Even i could have used it like that when it's price was low earlier and not now when it's price has almost crossed 10,000 dollars . I do agree that it goes totally against satoshi's vision but we have traveled much ahead of using it as a currency. We have to admit it even its a bitter truth. Yes, I bought some physical items using bitcoins, one of my latest item is even a socks with a bitcoin logo on it, I bought it during the Christmas season last year. I also use bitcoin as a payment to different services most likely to the internet service provider, although they not accept it directly, I have manged to pay it electronically, using other apps.

Or it’s just a form of investment like gold was a decade ago ?

Personally, I did not invest in gold or alike, I don't even have gold bars that could be keep in treasure boxes. But I have bitcoin in my wallets, somewhat I prefer to hoard almost half of my bitcoins.

Of course it needs to be legalised FIRST somewhere. But after that a, will you buy something online and pay in BTC ?

Maybe if we abide the logic behind creating bitcoin by satoshi maybe the world government would have accepted. We can still make money from using it to buy something online without investing.

I dont use my bitcoin for buying goods and paying services because I have not seen a store yet who accept bitcoin for payment in my country. As of now I only use bitcoin in trading.
Also, the use of bitcoin as a means of payment is illegal here, although it can be used online, I do not want to take risks. So, I use bitcoin only as an asset, I want to make it as a saving for my old age someday.

I can not wait for Amazon to take bitkoyn. I can not wait to see that Visa supports a credit card and other means with Bitcoin. People really sleep in the crypto-currency market, there are many dinosaurs who are afraid of change. I can not wait to see how far Bitcoin really can please me.

In my case, I haven't tried using Bitcoin as a payment online. I haven't purchased and pay thru Bitcoins. This is because my usual method of purchasing is COD or cash on delivery.
So, I usually pay when goods are delivered at our home. Although, it's an indirect payment of bitcoin since I usually withdraw bitcoin to buy.

Whenever I read about people using bitcoin for shopping online, for booking hotels, paying their restaurant bills, booking their flights with bitcoin, I really feel blessed and contented for investing in the right currency. All these uses of bitcoin in daily life show that people are accepting bitcoin are happy with this new concept of virtual currencies. Bitcoin is soon going to be used by everyone in every corner of the world.

Bitcoin as a digital currency for paying online, this may be the issue of the founder of Bitcoin "Satoshi Nakamoto" had in mind that the world needed. Till recently even though I wished for online payment I have not yet used.I used to change bitcoin to fiat currency through some exchange and do online shopping and  I have used Bitcoin  for booking rooms and for travels and this felt for me safe.I also wish to pay bills through Bitcoin and the transactions should be fast and fees acceptable too.

Nice dude!! Same here!! We have two large markets that supply a large part of the country for over ten years. They accept bitcoin so I bought everything with bitcoin. Just can't buy food and pay bills with it but that will happen soon. It is great to hear from another bitcoiner how happy they are with bitcoin.
I agree completely with you. Ordering from the comfort of your home with the greatest of ease than having it delivered it to you and no need to drive anywhere.

Why people people give opinion that bitcoin is easy to use to pay any goods or other stuffs.
I know its simple to use because its not include the third party to involve if we send it to other but its not as simple as fiat.

For me, BTC right now just act as long term investment that i got no interest to do transaction with this coin. Because, bitcoin still could do some large development and the prices could go higher than right now too. Maybe when the prices kinda stable, then i'll use it as payment method.

Yes, used to use it, it was the primary motive to get to know Bitcoin, but as the days passed the value rised and now I don't find it si=uitable enough due to high fees considering the fiat valuation. I prefer other coins perhaps, and use Bitcoin as a investment and also to buy or trade other altcoins and often ICOs as well if possible.

I got your point. It's quite the same for me. It needs to stabilise and then we everybody can pay worldwide wherever we go without to worry to pay extra fees with credits card and to make the pig banks even more fat.

Imagine a world without a borders and with one, UNIQUE form of payment - that's my dream. And BTC could be the right answer..

Lighting network will perform better and better - just give it time - because we can really chance the world in a better one. I'm sure. Time will tell us - but for now just supporting its fundamental idea and try not to speculate.

Isn't it awesome to think not depend anymore from any states or central banks ?
I wished it could happen - and the trails have already tracked down.

GIVE IT TIME

We are all for the best, right ?

For me, as much as possible I do not want to use my Bitcoin for paying online purchase because I know that instead of been using it directly, I would just rather convert it first because if I am going to send it in terms of Bitcoin, the quantity that I have spent and sent in terms of Bitcoin has the potential to grow and I might be regreting it for a while. For me, I will just hold it for good investment to make it grow furthermore and just convert it into cash if I needed to do so.

That's fair understandable. Like you many of others I think did the same.
You know, we are in the rise of a new revolutionary age, so the price needs to stabilise before we start consideration it like a everyday currency. But we'll get there I am totally confident.
When the scalability, lighting network and fees issues will be fixed - we have something to discuss with haters.

When I am shopping on sites that accept bitcoin I always use bitcoin to pay for my goods because it is easier, faster and more efficient than using banks and other third party financial institutions. We as investors in bitcoin have a bit role to play in the market because if we do not use bitcoin then it has no value which means prices go down and we all lose money.
