Please elaborate. Thanks a lot

Most people are now busy preparing for Christmas. Buying gifts, attending parties, etc. I myself did a lot of profit taking to be able to celebrate the holidays in style. Would love to give bitcoins as a gift.

It's true that some people will sell bitcoins or at least some satoshies to have some extra money for the holidays. But I don't think that would be such big amount to influence the demand and supply ratio and the price in some significant way. So, I don't expect some huge price drop and disturbance on the market, usual volatility and nothing to panic for.
Regarding the gifts, some bitcoins as a gift would make me very happy too.  ;D

I can't speak on behalf of anyone in this forum since we are an international community here and each of us has a different set of national and even more local cultures and traditions. But as for me and my culture, during Christmas time to be exact, I think the Christmas season has an effect to Bitcoin. Christmas is a season of abundance. Huge bonuses here and 13th month pay, annual earnings, and all other benefits are usually given during this season. This is a season of much money. Therefore buying will surge to a very high level during this time. That could include Bitcoin-buying of course.

actually holidays or christmas does not affect the price of bitcoin. it's just that when holidays and christmas arrive, usually people will need a lot of money and one of them they will sell some of their bitcoin assets.
so clearly, when a lot of people are selling bitcoins, then the price will come down too low.

The drop happening now is all about the whales. They will buy back and soon the price of btc will be back to 20k usd. Maybe it affects for those who have celebration. I'm not an expert, this is my own opinion as per my observation.

Bitcoin recent prices surges are so quick and high, Some people taking out the profit from it is definitely expected and also the Christmas and a new year are very close in this day so I expect people are cashing out their Bitcoin for their holiday.

I think that holidays or christmas does not affect the price of bitcoin. Currently, BCH has been bump, so many people sell BTC to buy BCH, BTC drops. I believe BTC will rise again soon. It will reach 20k.

I think it will take 1million of 1bitcoin on the coming Christmas because the price of bitcoin is too big now and it's also a lot of money to use it for the coming Christmas, hopefully the price is higher for Christmas bitcoin money is earned by its hold but for now it's a bitcoin for bitcoin and many users will be here to earn more money in bitcoin.

I'm not a bitcoin expert but my hum opinion is that regular  holders who may need some cash for holdays  are willing to cashout some. meaning the price to become less valuable.

In general, let me just say that current events affect bitcoin price. Events affect the market, as well as how people buy, hold, and sell. For Christmas, I think that this is the season of lots of get-together and gift giving, in addition to vacations and many more. This means that people would need to spend money, and thus they sold their bitcoin for cash.

Bitcoin is used by some people to get an alternative income or to have more money. People are preparing and using their money for the celebration of Christmas. If Christmas affects bitcoin, I don't think so because Christmas just affects those people who uses bitcoin not bitcoin itself. People might sell their bitcoins so they can have more money for the preparation of Christmas. Once people started to sell bitcoin, bitcoin might decrease its price because as many people are selling bitcoin than buying it, bitcoin's price will decrease. Christmas affect people who use bitcoin which affect bitcoin but Christmas does not affect bitcoin directly. I think it is also the same to other holidays.

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?

I think christmas and holidays are very influential on bitcoin prices. because at that time those who celebrate Christmas will focus more on their religious activities. so bitcoin trading activity will be sluggish. that's how I think.

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?
Post by: kevoh on December 20, 2017, 10:19:57 AM
The season of Christmas is too minor as a factor to affect the price of Bitcoin negatively. Buying gifts for family and/or sending bitcoin as gift to a loved one will not make any change as the money still remains within the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Global events like Christmas / New Year / Easter will have an influence on Bitcoin price because in those times, the transactions are more frequent due to the need of liquidity, affecting to some degree the bitcoin Price.

As far as I know there is no correlation between Christmas holiday and bitcoin.

I have seen last year that the price of bitcoin rose to all time high during the holidays and no cash out happened. I think the dumping in recent days is purely manipulation from whales. Look at how bitcoin cash is being pumped right now. Some may have sell their bitcoins and shift it to bitcoin cash. But when bitcoin cash is dump, they will all go back to bitcoin again. So its better to hold and not sell. Actually its good to enter the market today, good buying point.

Any place where people store value like bitcoin is likely to be affected by holidays like Christmas as the price is also linked to people buying bitcoin and other crypto currencies we will see a slowdown to people buying. We may also see people selling to release equity to fund their holiday shopping.

Maybe there is a small part that BTC drop is cause by coming holidays since most people are selling part of their bitcoins so they can use the converted fiat in their holiday expenses, almost all of us spend double or triple of our regular expenses during festive holidays but there should another reason more than the holiday and yet I', also curious what it is, if is what they so called correction or other thing more,

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?

Well i think it does not affect bitcoin at all but since it is a holiday and many people needs money. so, most likely there are a lot of people who sells their bitcoin for a money. since there are high sales of bitcoin many money they will get and it will affect the bitcoin exchange. it might go up or down depends on it but its not the holiday since it is the people who needs a lot of money for that day.

Its not true. I think that christmas or any holidays cannot affect the price of bitcoin. Bitcoin affect the price when there was something happen in the industry or economy. But it is normal if you are beginner its ok to got panic but if you have long time in bitcoin it is normal to the bitcoin because it is ubstable and fluctuating it don't have original price.but as i suggest to you please don't get panic in this season because it is normal only.and atill it has a high price

in previous years, christmas/holidays did affect the price.

but still, i find it unreal to hear "people are selling btc to buy presents and that's why the prices are dropping."
with these prices, gifts can't make a dent in the price - unless this year, people are buying themselves and their families 10k gifts each.. ;D

jeez, imagine the sizes of those c.trees to hold all those presents.. 8)

I think vacation or christmas does not affect the bitcoin price. But when the holidays or Christmas come, usually everyone needs a lot of money and one of them they will sell some of their bitcoin assets. Therefore the bitcoin price decreases because the people sell bitcoin

I don't believe Christmas cause the price of bitcoin to rise in anyway. This is because this period is the period where many people are to sell bitcoin to spend during the celebration. Therefore there would be more seller and few buyer as a result the price should be lower.

It is very possible that Christmas can affect Bitcoin in one way or the other.Christmas is a festive season where many engage in selling their bitcoin for the purpose of buying  gifts and for celebration. Some even give Bitcoin as a gift. After all this by January 2018 Bitcoin will continue to rise again.

Every year once after Christmas or during the days close to Christmas good increase in price takes place. This time too I expect the price to reach a bigger value than that of the current price. As the upcoming year is completely predicted to be an year for altcoins, expect mutual growth.

The price of Bitcoin is decreasing because a lot of people are selling bitcoin to get fiat for celebrating Christmas. Price depends on supply and demand also. Now supply is more than demand. But don't be panic. Hope price will be increasing again.

what you do is amazing you give a bitcoin gift to someone on Christmas Day. how many bitcoinkah you will reward right? If at natal the price of bitcoin decreases, I think it's a good chance to buy it and give a gift to someone. and it may not have anything to do with the day natal.karena bitcoin is not stable the price is definitely just a coincidence in the day natal.

I think any holidays doesn't affect the bitcoin itself but the people who uses bitcoin because people are getting busy to buy things and be with their family enjoying and having fun with their love ones they tend to forget to use bitcoin for awhile sometimes we tend to forget to be with our families busy doing or using bitcoin but then Christmas is for our family that's why many people didn't uses bitcoin when Christmas holiday comes.

Actually, all the currencies in the world are affected by events, so it is normal for Bitcoin exchange rates to fluctuate during Christmas. As Bitcoin's exchange rates are on the rise, I believe that Christmas will exceed $ 200,000 a Bitcoin. It is easy to understand that when Christmas arrives, increased shopping demand will lead to a price impact on Bitcoin, which may increase or decrease prices, but according to experience, Bitcoin will increase strongly at the end of 2017.  ;)

Don't know for now but lets see. I think they call it the holiday economics, the money circulate a lot because people tend to do more work and the productivity rate becomes high due to these seasons. I don't know what will happen to the price if people will convert their bitcoins to fiat and cash out for gifts or if they buy bitcoins from their Christmas bonuses. Lets see the effect until the first month of 2018

as the New Year approaches.
I think it will help to raise the price of digital currencies Consequently,
all currencies will be affected in this period

Many are now busy buying gifts for loved ones and attending Christmas parties. And as a person keeps trying to earn more bitcoin to accommodate special requests from loved ones, it makes them trying hard to earn more bitcoin in a short period of time which also makes the increase on bitcoin' s price.

In my opinion Christmas or any holidays does not affect bitcoin pricing its just that normal activity of bitcoin such as fluctuations happens during this time but regardless of any occasion bitcoin will pump or dump depending on its flow in the market I think this drop is only a preparation for the next pump and highest value for bitcoin in its records. So don't worry and relax bitcoin will not going to die

Ha ha.Bitcoin is independent of all the mentioned factors.Since bitcoin price is not able to controlled by government, private sectors.Did you think this holidays and all affect the bitcoin. Not at all.Bitcoin is the decentralized digital currency, this is the reason for the price raise often. When the price of bitcoin is dump means, inverse your money. If it's pump means, sell your holding bitcoin.

- Or else, people use Bitcoin as the payment so they gonna buy more bitcoins and it makes the price up.

Does Christmas or any holidays affects bitcoin?

think of the following: Have you seen any exchange suspend your activities during the Christmas period? I still have not seen this happen, have you ever seen any rendered service provider with bitcoin not operating during the Christmas period? I still have not seen it... so people are still doing trade normally and it seems to me that the price is still the same in this period. this year because of the hard forks scheduled for this month and the future was a very agitated December month. but last year if i i remember correctly, the price was stable, it was like a normal day... I may be wrong.

During holidays, bitcoiners sell their bitcoins for the purpose of buying gift or for other expenses for the holidays. Since they sell their bitcoins, its supply increases thus resulting to decrease on bitcoins' price. Then when there's an increase in demand, then increase in price will be the result..

Hi,

I don't think that Christmas or holiday affect bitcoin moves, but I guess that the period of the year does. Every year, we can observe chaotic moves in December (generally increase in prices) and then a "stabilization" (bitcoin is still volatile, but a bit less let's say) in January.

There also tend to be chaotic moves in summer. I guess that it correspounds to periods at which people are making a point. What they have won, what they have lost. And depending on the result, they invest or they sell.

Makes sense, right?

I think you can argue there would be some things one way or another with people buying bitcoin as gifts for others or buying bitcoin themselves with their gifted money vs people selling bitcoin to buy gifts, but I think in the overall neither will make any real difference to the price.

I don't think that the Holiday Season have anything to do with btc's sudden decline. If you are following any news, it is believed that the news regarding BCH in Coinbase and GDAX have something to do with the recent decline. Although there are some people who are selling btc this time of the year for buying some gifts to their loved ones or to reward themselves, I don't think it's that much to cause the dip. And besides we've all been waiting for the corrections and this might just be it. Remember that everytime btc hits an ath, corrections is expected to follow.

Christmas and BTC I think both are linked but not concentrated, because in christmas there are many needs to be spent eg buy gifts. So from that many people who sell their bitcoin for christmas needs and if many who sell bitcoin not deny the price of bitcoin down.

I think that before the holidays the price of bitcoin will decrease slightly or stay at this mark, because all people will start buying gifts. I also got enough profit and want to buy gifts for my family.

I think people will be seating at home in the cold desert so they will try to earn more bitcoin in the period of Christmas. There could be flood of investment into bitcoin as there won't be anything much to do at home but watch the money grow this Christmas. This Christmas is really special as bitcoin is getting all spiked in the veins of every human and everyone loves it now. So could be positive for bitcoin to grow its market reach.

Indeed people will sell lots of bitcoin before Christmas and I think the effect can be seen on today's market if you ask me. Only five days left for the main day and that's why everyone is trying to get the bitcoin converted into fiat currency as it will take time for the fiat to get credited into banks. Isn't that's correct?  Yes why would it not be ;-) The prices are too high and they all are in profit so everyone obviously will sell it to enjoy the golden Christmas they might have ever enjoyed. :-)

Well on top of this, note for those people who ain't selling or who doesn't want to get into trouble you can start buying more bitcoin as after the Christmas is over people will be buying the bitcoin again to fill up the wallet and this will help us gain profits! So enjoy everyone.

There are multiple scenarios that could apply here but the season does affect the price of Bitcoin. Many people might use their BTC holding in buying foods and drinks for celebrating Christmas. So this may result is the decline of bitcoin's price. However people are also entitled to have Christmas bonus from their employer so people have some money to spare and they could buy some BTCs and may result on price increase.

I think yes Christmas effects the bitcoin because earlier people were holding their coins and that leads to high demand but low supply. But now people are selling their bitcoins in exchange of money so to celebrate Christmas, which now leads to less demand and excess in supply which leads in the fall in the price of bitcoin.

Why would it affect bitcoin? Maybe a lot of people are going to sell some bitcoins but it wont affect the market, and if some people sell, they will just sell $100 or $300 worth of bitcoin to buy some stuff,  but they would not withdraw all their money just to buy "gifts".. came on..

The actual decline is quite normal no ? after all this rise !
However I think that with christmas the bitcoin will have difficult to exceed 20 000 €. People now, think to their family, the gifts that they must buy, the food, the celebrations etc.
The cryptoworld is very psychological since behind you have people. I think, after february, people will be ready for a new  bullish rally for the year 2018.

If you do not take into account the manipulation of the market, bitcoin will fall in price as will all alternative coins. Roughly speaking, everyone wants to celebrate the new year somewhere not at home, and everyone wants to buy normal gifts to relatives. Hence the natural fall of the course.
We expect that at the beginning of the new year there will be a sharp jump up.

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?
Post by: Erelas on December 20, 2017, 08:42:41 PM
I discount the possible effect of the holidays, even Christmas, on Bitcoin markets and believe that this current correction is just an example of market manipulation.

Bitmain is still selling for only BCH, Coinbase added BCH without much in the way of an announcement, and Christmas might just be a smokescreen as if no one was going to notice and chalk it up to "holidays".  That might even be too simple and the twists in the market are more complicated than that.

Eastern schools of thought seem to lend themselves more to planning generations ahead, where western countries are more "in the moment", and not saying one is better than the other, just that perhaps the entire crypto market should be looked at within the worldview of people who hold a majority / partial monopoly.

I do believe that it has a connection with the dump. People at this season are in need of money which probably triggers them to sell their Bitcoin. It also makes the transactions high which affects the demand from the market, the opposite way. The demand is becoming low and same thing happens with its value since both are proportional with each other.

From what i have read and what i have observed over the couple of year of using bitcoin, is each december the price of the bitcoin starts going down, and this continues through the begineing of a new year, but after it it just goes to climbing back again, in my opinion i think this is due to the fact that most of the bitcoin users hold thier coins through out the year and wait until its over so they can cash it out, and this creates a massive dump that effects the price, but there is no worries because the price will soon go back again.

On holidays like christmas most people will sell their assets (Bitcoin) to add to their christmas and holiday needs. As it is known that the more people who sell Bitcoin then it will affect the decline in Bitcoin prices. I think that's it.

My friend has a theory that over Thanksgiving people told their families all about BTC and helped them buy some, which is why we saw that huge bump in the value around that time. I don't see any reason why a similar thing can't happen over Christmas, except that Christmas is more of a global holiday than Thanksgiving.

Regarding the gifts, some bitcoins as a gift would make me very happy too.  ;D

That's the theory, but the fact bitcoin price still increasing by the end if the year, despite the fact that many people sell bitcoin for Christmas party, buy gifts, foods, etc. What makes the price declining? Simply because the network can't afford current transactions, too much unconfirmed transactions and ridiculous high fee to be paid, the mempool just stuck at this point. And there are some options to invest or use it to move the funds without having a problem such as in bitcoin, there are bcash, eth, dash, and litecoin as better coins, just to allocate the funds before getting back to bitcoin again. Don't worry, it just the time matter until bitcoin rise again.

But i think the amount of people selling they're bitcoin's in holidays would not affect the market that much so price would not drop much it will only be the usual volatility.

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?

I think the reason behind the price drop today is not because of the holiday season but because of the mass panic surrounding BCH and ETH since their price today is shooting up fast. The Christmas season does nothing to help decrease the price of each bitcoin because price point suggests that many investors would let go of their bitcoins not a cheaper price, but on a higher price point since a lot of people have a lot of moneu of Christmas, thus allowing them to invest their moneu on the hyped bitcoins.

roger verr and his team are trying to find opportunities from the end of the year and especially christmas to manipulate the price, the general holders will greet with panic because they want to sell their bitcoin for holiday needs, besides the traders are also trapped in the hype that requires quick profit using bch interconnected globally.

first of all it is pretty normal for bitcoin to drop or pump because of volatility and other factors like demand and supply. holidays like christmas doesnt really have a direct effect to bitcoin. however events like this can drive the demand of bitcon to decrease because people would likely sell off their coins because they need money to prepare for this special day but of course not all people will do it because there were still die hard hodlers that will still prefer to hold their coins rather than spending it.

I think a lot of bitcoiners out there cashed out a portion of their holdings because of christmas season. Thus supplies flows in and causes for the prices of bitcoin to fall slightly.

Since christmas is fast approaching almost everyone of us were so much busy on preparing in this very momentous occasion and as far as everyone is concern i can sense that most holders exchange their bitcoins into fiat to use it as a christmas presents to their loveones in this matter i think this really contributes to bitcoins price to fall to almost $3k+..but this is being expected by holders of bitcoin correction always happen and we shall expect to decrease more when more holders dump their coins as new year will come.

this year I think, it is important, to BTC as a gift for christmas presents to their loved ones, and there is no need to exchange for Fiat)).

I think it's not likely to affect the bitcoin of this Christmas because it's progress is smooth and steady. It's a lot of help it and one that I do not want to be Christmas anymore to give my loved ones gifts.

I think christmas has a slight decrease in the impact, because why, at Christmas time, the christmas need the money to celebrate so they take their bitcoin money, the effect is that if all pull together to celebrate, the increase in demand increases.

I don't really think that events affects bitcoin's price. Bitcoin's price depends o  the supply and demand here in the internet industry in terms of bitcoin, and the usage of bitcoin by the users; on how they frequently they use it. The people who use bitcoin increases as the year ends and I think by year 2018 more people will use it. So clearly, events like Christmas won't affect bitcoin's price.

No. Christmas or any holidays does notnany affect on the proce of bitcoin because they do not have any relationship to each other. I think there are only a little problem in bitcoin that is why its price becomes to decrease. Hoping that its price will recover or will increase.

I agree about it because it is definitely true. Christmas season has become a good season for bitcoin because more people are earning and buying them. I think it has an effect because it is a season that many people get their bonuses and earn their money which includes buying of bitcoin. Especially this christmas season because of the high value of bitcoin, people will keep buying and earning it.

I think it will only affect a little, usually in Christmas people get bonus, so it can be used to invest in Bitcoin and logically people will sell the coin to buy the presents, but if there are already a lot of shop accepting Bitcoin then it sure will increase the Bitcoin value, because when Christmas people like to give present for other people

I think people refrain from trading or performing task that is related to crptocurrency or even their own work during holidays. The holiday is intended to harness and express the fruit of the labor one have done in the whole year, thus giving more time to self, family, friends, and other. Holiday is also the time of spending so, I think more people will cash out some of their bitcoin to spend in this once in a year event.

Christmas is the most awaited Holiday of the year. It is also the time where people spend too much money for the season. This is because most people prioritize to buy gifts or tokens to their love ones instead of buying bitcoins. Some people also sell their bitcoin while others convert their bitcoin into flat so they have money to use for the Christmas. The abovementioned reasons affect the market of bitcoin this coming Christmas so, we all noticed that bitcoin price lay low in going up. But, I believe that after this Holiday, people will go back and invest in bitcoin again.

I'm really not sure if christmas affects directly to its price decrease but somehow the logic of the circumstance where in many people are selling their bitcoins to exchange to physical has something to do with the supply and demand. However, bitcoin price is volatile so anytime of the year we really can expect a sudden change in its price but we will look forward for increase rather than decrease.

That's an interesting point, that people have other purchase obligations around the time of Christmas, thus potentially limiting their ability to invest in BTC. If we see a dip over Xmas, that might be the reason.

from what i see, the answer is Yes. because even in the weekend bitcoin price dropped a little. some of my trader friend said because some people sell their bitcoin for the weekend, or or during certain celebrations
That is one thing that i have been observed for when there is some of holidays the price goes down the one reason that i have seen for is of course they are selling it cause they needed some money this is the one thing that are real happen.
I still cannot testify it to myself because i don't have enough bitcoins to sell. But i really believe during these special occassions Christmas and New Year people want to have more money to buy gifts for everyone so maybe  they may sell part of their bitcoins to have abundant money instantly.
i not really sure too but since 2014 that i trade in some markets, there are certain dates that market volume be really low and bitcoin price decreased, there are weekend, chinese new year, christmas and other holiday. that is why i made that conclusion

With the transaction fees right now? I don't think it is feasible to buy a $10 gift and paying a $4 or more transactions fee. Plus the factor that the price is still going. I don't think it will be a wise decision.

Maybe because some are converting their bitcoin to cash to spend money for christmas that would be possible. It is also because it is cryptocurrency so it is volatile so the price may go down and up but I don't think it will go down really to the bottom, only a little and it will comeback to biggest increase again.

Christmas or any other holidays may affect the price of Bitcoin. During big occasions like Christmas, people sell their Bitcoin to buy presents. As the number of people selling Bitcoin increases, the price of Bitcoin decreases. Why is that? It happens because there will be a competition in the market. Sellers will sell their Bitcoin at lower price to sell it immediately.

Most people are now busy preparing for Christmas. Buying gifts, attending parties, etc.

Pre-Christmas sales are a "normality", they often happen also in the stock exchange (the effects are lighter). Something we have already seen, with bitcoin going from 19.5k to the current 16.5/17k. I expect to see a further decline these days, also because many people will take the profits from the hype of altcoin.

Well in my understanding christmas and btc will be affect with the value or the year, as we observe the value is pumping and dumping but think clearly it pumps bigger than dump so the value will more pump in christmas up to new year, I maybe don't  know what the curse to make the value pumping but for me it pumps if many people trust this one and use as daily and also for the other group of campaign which has fully success their project so that in affect with bitcoin it will boom.

I think christmas and new year affects the fall in bitcoin prices. the reason is that bitcoin prices depend on market demand, when it comes to Christmas and New Year's celebrations, people need cash to spend on Christmas gifts and gifts. So, they sell some of their bitcoin for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Title: Re: Christmas And BTC?

Events can affect bitcoin's value most especially worldwide events like Christmas. People (investors and holders) are using their bitcoins for the holiday's celebration and even before Christmas eve, some bitcoins are spent already for Christmas presents, food, wines and spirits, parties and even  gift (bitcoin as gift literally) so you can expect a dip of bitcoin's value.

I think bitcoin's value will rise again after Christmas. :)

Well, Christmas is time for giving and many people will sell their bitcoins in order to buy some gifts, this might influence the value to a certain extent. But i'm not sure that the amount of sold assets in bitcoin will be sufficient to influence the price. So you can expect the drop in price but as it seems it's mostly due to the Bcash and not to the Christmas.

Usually bitcoin end the year with a bang.Even if others are selling bitcoin for their celebration and needs i don't think it would affect much because demand is still higher the expected seller. There are new investors who are always willing to catch your bitcoin if you sell it. History will just repeat itself. Maybe there would be a deep on first quarter next  year but it will be temporary.

For Christmas celebrations some people may be selling parts of bitcoin in case they need extra money for celebrations and are unable to meet these expenditure from their other regular sources.  On the other hand some people may be buying it specially during this period.  People engaged in this profession or investors may be lucky as they may be gifted with few gift coins as Christmas gifts.  But there should not be much effect of Christmas on the prices of bitcoin because people do not sell their investments in large amounts for such petty issues.  Many people waiting eagerly for bitcoin as Christmas gift.

I think, Christmas or not, every step we make in bitcoin will somehow affect the price. Many are now probably making their own steps to buy the gifts they will be sending to their loved ones and one way to buy as many gifts as you can, they will tend to sell their bitcoins for cash. Some may have received bonuses and their 13th month pay or probably also received cash gifts from others, they will probably also buy some bitcoins.

I don't think so. The holiday season, heck even a plain day, doesn't quite affect the entirety of the price movement of bitcoins. This is because a lot of people would be thinking of even buying more btcs and hodling. The christmas season is but a small movement, or even close to a negligible movement.

In my opinion, it really is the reason why the market value of Bitcoin at this moment is falling. Chances are high that it is because of the increase on the level of transactions of people who are selling their Bitcoin which makes the demand low. We should not worry about it and we just need to patiently wait until its market value again, increase.

There is a possibility that the holidays affect the price of bitcoin, it happened on the day before the thanksgiving as well. Probably, some of the big investors are taking a grand vacation elsewhere so it's possible that they have cashed out for their expenses, and we may see a bloodbath because of massive selling and FUDs all over, therefore, panic selling occurs. For me, this is called a Holiday Sale of BTC and alts, so, I will grab the opportunity to accumulate more.

Maybe yes. A part of it maybe affecting the rise of the price of Bitcoin since many people are now busy preparing and focusing their mindset into the upcoming event and also they are busy travelling in out of town vacations so many consumers and even the potential investors are out to rise up the demand making the price a little bit low while Christmas holiday is approaching. But maybe after the event, the price will soon to go back in normal.

I don't think holidays changes much for bitcoin because exchanges are open 24/7 regardless of the holiday and bitcoin is so widely adopted across different countries, continents and cultures that any individual holiday wouldn't have much of an effect.

Yes it is, I'm no expert though but I think every events and holidays affects bitcoin's market just as any other market charts too since people tend to be more generous in spending and more in need of money in these certain occasions more people will most likely sell their bitcoins thus affecting the market.

Christmas is for sure one of the many factors that affect bitcoin's price. It's for the fact that people during this time of year will surely sell some of their bitcoins for cash. Cash that they will use for food, decoration, gifts, and etc. Demand of bitcoin during this season is low therefore it's only natural that its price will go down. But once Christmas and New year are over expect it to rise. If you like to invest in bitcoin. New year is the best time to buy it.

Trading activity will be slower over the holidays and traders can a break. The price movements are not necessarily inked to that. The recent dive is due to profit taking. Nothing goes up in a straight line.

I think Christmas season got some effect now on bitcoin price because it is going down now. Bitcoiners need cash for Christmas to buy gifts, if only there are many merchants accepting bitcoins and have low fees and fast transactions there is no need to convert to local fiat just buy using bitcoins online.

Hi there DRAWDE_3691! I cannot claim my self an expert in bitcoin but I think there is a market slowdown during Christmas and even on New Years eve. People behind the trading platform, the traders themselves even thought they use bots or automated trading system, they are still human being than embrace emotion. Holidays, bring peace and joy to everyone, it gives a room for a work break and focus on the family. At the end, people wants to have huge amount of money to spent it for the betterment of their life and family.  ;)

As i can see it affects so much the christmas holiday to the price of bitcoin, value is going down hard and its happening right now. Some people are selling their bitcoin for fiat to prepare for the upcoming christmas and new year holiday season. I'm going to expect another big increase by next year 2018.

I am not an expert on bitcoin and cryptocurrency world, I even still consider myself as a newbie. Let us approach this into something simpler and general.
Well, for starters, I guess in all event, holidays or big days, the supply and demand of a crucial things are increasing. Money, foods and drinks, presents (jewelry, toys, etc), transport system, hotel and inn, etc all are crucial things in my opinion in holidays or big days season. Bitcoin is a kind of a money. Because there is not so many vendors that accept bitcoin for daily things purchase, people sells their bitcoin into fiat currency to use their money (and price increased so high too in this near Christmas time, so maybe some people who don't celebrate Christmas just want to sell bitcoin to make some profit, so the amount of people making transaction is doubled or triplet, not to mention on how many people have bitcoin in this world and per person can make a multiple transaction) this will make a condition like now, such as :
1. A ton of transaction.
2. Higher fees transaction.
3. Price going down
4. People panic
5. Bitcoin haters appearing out of nowhere, claiming bitcoin dead, this coin better, that coin is better.
6. Some people take the FUD and do panic sells
7. The FUD-er (imo) happy people sells bitcoin, bitcoin price will go down more, and FUD-er will be buying bitcoin at low price
8. After several days, the price will be normal again, the FUD-er will sells some to gain profit.
9. Repeat to number 1 when some holidays/big days/events occur.
This is my conclusion, because I have seen this several times already. People will only focus on making profit, they don't care about others. I don't want to be like that people.

yeah because some old members said that bitcoin doesnt really decrease or dump last december. i also think that it is just a mere coincedent. however i also agree with some comments here because few people will probably cash out and sell their bitcoins to buy gifts or prepare for this holiday season and that could also lead for bitcoin to drop. i think its already happening now and we are now experiencing it. overall no matter what will happen, i strongly believe that bitcoin could still recover after this event has passed.

Christmas has a lot of effect on BTC, its a season of gifting, shopping, partying e.t.c. people need money to take of some of these items, they would want to send money to their aged people so many want to sell bitcoin to meet this needs, this could lead to stability or drop in the growth of BTC till January. But this is the best time to buy because it might skyrocket in January 2018

The rate of the Bitcoin is from 16000 dollars dropped to 13000 dollars in just 2 days, cause strong impact to investors around the world. But this rate of reduction waves Bitcoin only do temporarily, after Christmas I believe the rate will rise again Bitcoin strongly in the new year 2018.  ;)

I am really not thay expert to Bitcoins but I agree to what everyone said. People usually spend money for Christmas and New Year. It is the time of the year where everyone, or almost everyone, is very generous on giving gifts to family and friends, donating to charity, going out and spending time with family. And with that, they also need cash. And I think that drove down the Bitcoin price. People cashing out their Bitcoins so they have extra money to spend on. And with that, I predict that Bitcoin will go back up on the first quarter of 2018

Base on what's happening now, well it's a clear yes. People are taking out their bitcoins and converting it to fiat in preparation for the Christmas day and as well as the New Years Eve. I have seen there are many incidents that are affecting the price of bitcoin. News is also one factor that affects bitcoin price so holidays are also affecting bitcoin itself.

I don't know for sure. But it seems that day will affects bitcoin. Why? because it will be many people will convert it to fiat as we know holiday will make people spend more money. In other hand people who have bitcoin will change to money and then spend it, many merchants not accept bitcoin. Or maybe investor will give their employees bonus for holiday so they have to convert bitcoin to fiat. So it can be said direct or indirectly it will affects bitcoin. CMIIW :)

You must also understand that for those willing to cashout their bitcoin, someone somewhere is the buyer of that coin. So you wanna sell your btc for Christian and new year party, go on and by January you buy back at a higher cost. But really people need to sell more bitcoins so as to make the price dip more and alts can boom for Christmas.. So I hope and pray more people sell their btc. Price is at $13485 as I write, let it dip more to 10bulks please..

But peradventure there is any country that eventually approve bitcoin before the end of the year, you will see a radical break out in the price to around 25 bulks

Yes, it will have a significant effect. Because people will sell the bitcoin they save for their needs on Christmas and New Year's Day. But this is only a reasonable phenomenon and last year also happened the same thing. So you do not have to worry about the current phenomenon, bitcoin will return to normal price after new year.

Its definitely true that this coming Christmas holiday is a season where people are all busy in their life and they allotted their money in many expenses like of course gifts, foods, clothes and many more. And yes, this season also affects bitcoin status because of course the fiat that they intend to their investment is quite been used in this matters.

I indeed agree with this insight. Christmas is a season where people are so busy buying all things for their gifts especially to children. Also this Christmas season is a season where I guess people will choose to spend their money. And it is affects bitcoin due to this season but then we don't to worry about it because it will surely return back to its normal price a months after this season.

Yes it does affects in some ways. Christmas season is the time where we spend a lot money on different necessities. So by this, the supply of bitcoin in the market increases because there are lots of people selling their btc.  Also, the fact that bitcoin's price is falling, I'm pretty sure that there quite a few who'd be panic selling because they got carried away easily with the current movement of bitcoin.

That could include Bitcoin-buying of course.
very well said; I also believe the Christmas season has some level of effect on bitcoin due to high spending rate at that time. People have receive huge bonuses from work and gifts from employers which might influence buying of bitcoins

I am not here for too long but I think Christmas really has something to do with the sudden increase on the level of
transactions which is making the demand and market value low. But we should focus on investing and taking advantage of this situation since the market price is falling it will surely increase eventually which will give huge profit to those who will invest now.

Christmas drops are evident......well, didn't really drop like on Friday... It's pulling back up. Even if it drops I don't understand why there's a need to panic. In my opinion this is a golden opportunity to buy even more. Be grateful. If it drops then all alts drop given everyone an opportunity to buy at lower prices.

Maybe it's not because of Christmas or any holidays that bitcoins lie low or plunges somehow. We cannot foresee what happens in the stock market although many factors may affect like global crisis or the like. Moreover, it's like a game so we should play it well. Learn and earn as they say.

I really watch you people with amaze. I'm actually totally shocked with your narrow sights.

Before Friday BTC total market cap was more than 300B USD; price dropped about 40%.
And you think it's all because of christmas? By regular people who needs a few hundreds of USD, to spend for gifts, parties?

What about the non christian countries? China, Japan, most of asia is holding huge amount of bitcoin and they don't have xmas celebration nor holiday...
Or let me ask you this: will btc drop 40% because of Chinese New year holiday? According to your theory it should drop even bigger...

The drop we witnessed was a f*ck of big guys who just joined with their multi billion usd funds, CBOE, CMO and other individual investors. Look at btc price after they joined: volatile as never been seen.

At least I know what I'm going to do! I am going to invest more into it and will be earning more bitcoin at home! I think me and my wife are going to have fun earning together with hot coffee mug beside us! Thats going to be Christmas with full of golden bitcoin pots! The gift of Santa awaits us and we are excited for it.

According to this math most of us are going to spend time earning more bitcoin than ever. We can expect the hikes in prices during the Christmas.!
Everyone has his own thoughts about bitcoin and other crypto. I think that the fall in bitcoin is due to low investment sometime, but if we see overall the price of bitcoin it is growing on daily basis. Some time it drops but soon it reaches more than the previous one.

If you have bitcoin at Christmas party and also have a lot of bitcoins then your happiness will be double. ETH, LTC and others are rising very slowly.

O think the holidays affected the bitcoin price because a lot of people are selling because they need the money for holiday while there are only few people buying. It affected the price so much that other trader prefeerred to hold their coins and sell next year when price recovers.

Even regular bank accounts and ATM's are affected this holiday season. One of the biggest time of the year and it is the end of the year where almost everybody want to buy new things. It's not BTC that plunges, the whole crypto community is down last week, its a simple reminder that instead working your ass off working in crypto why don't you call this a days and then go back to work after new year. It's a very too breath out for a while, and rest while the market is red. ;)

the number of traders who sell their Bitcoin for holiday supplies makes the price of Bitcoin slump. but this Christmas does not affect the decline in Bitcoin prices. Bitcoin prices are still stable.

For those who want to give something special, please write a list of the most irresistible reasons to gift cryptocurrency to their loved ones!

Do you remember what you received for Christmas last year? Probably not. The quest to find the right Christmas is a daunting task for most people. That's why we thought to shake things up and about you computing reasons to put crypto under the tree. 🎄
1. Do not be boring
We all hope to find a gift that is useful, not too expensive and surprising. Yet we usually end up on the safe and boring side: socks, cooking book, Netflix subscription. Where did the fun go?
Now imagine yourself as the cool uncle / sister / friend who puts Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash under the tree! Instantly everyone will think of you as the next, Steve Jobs visionary.
2. Cryptocurrency is universal
The main challenge of finding the perfect gift is that people are picky and have specific taste and interests. Cryptocurrencies are common useful regardless of age, gender, relationship status and living situation. Your loved ones are free to use their new coins however they wish: spend, save or give them further!
3. It is not expensive
Many people who hear in the news that Bitcoin is valued over 15 000 dollars, many assume that they can not afford cryptocurrencies. However, when you come to these coins, usually you do not have buy a whole unit, you can buy any amount. Purchasing and giving is even simpler when you choose a cryptocurrency that has low transaction fees. Also, remember: you can always sell or buy more if you are not happy with the amount you own.
4. A gift that keeps on giving
What happens when you buy a TV? Its value depreciates over time. How about a fancy bag for your mom? Once she starts wearing it, the material loses from it's original beauty. Cryptocurrencies work differently. Imagine, if you had given Bitcoin for last Christmas, your family / friend would now have a gift that grew 10-15x in value! (Just keep in mind, it's impossible to predict how the price will change in the future.)
5. No wrapping required
Giving cryptocurrencies is simple. All you need is to have a wallet for the currency of your choice e.g. BTC.com wallet for Bitcoin & Bitcoin Cash. Once both you and the giftee have a wallet set up, simply transfer the preferred amount to his / her address. This is also an excellent opportunity to show and explain how cryptocurrencies work. Of course, you can also opt for a more "physical gift" such as handing the funds sealed in a paper or hardware wallet.

Christmas and New Year holidays uniquely affect the price of bitcoin in the direction of its decline. However, to date, the real problem for bitcoin and those holding it, have the disadvantages of bitcoin, which have grown so much that they make its normal use impossible. Bitcoin transactions hang for hours, not days. Commissions for transactions have grown to unprecedented levels. Already often, small payments disappear because they are being consumed by commission charges. It is these circumstances that are now causing the drop in the cost of bitcoin, since people are switching to the use of other coins. Demand for bitcoin drops sharply.

Even though I insist that it's though to the high fees and the South Korean threat of banning,  I think that Christmas option might be very true, most of the investors have cashed out some of their bitcoins for the Christmas season,  I even had to cash some of my bitcoins because of Christmas so am sure that maybe the reason why value is currently down after the New Year is over it will come back to normal I reckon.

This is just only an opinion for me. This past weeks, the price of bitcoin suddenly goes down and at the 12-13$k mark at this moment. Maybe because many bitcoin holders sold some of their bitcoin in order to spent for the holiday season. For me, this is the reason why bitcoin's price goes down. I expect too that the price of bitcoin will start to goes up again in the next year.

Last year, it was different. Bitcoin reached new high prices and it keeps on pumping unlike this year that keeps on increasing then stop and start falling quickly. On the eve of Christmas, money is withdrawn from the market to the real sector. This year, several exchanges have closed the register. This all served as a push to reduce the cost of bitcoin. In January, everything will recover.

People hold their coins for future purpose, and  they believe now its time to use them. They start selling during before the event. If people continuously selling their btc it will decrease to 10k before new year. Selling bitcoin is helping to decreasing demand and increasing there supply which caused price decreased.

I think Christmas and holidays have also affect in the price of bitcoin simply because those day many people have a lot of money or simply a lot of bonuses so they will use to invest in bitcoin. Even you see that bitcoin are going up now still it will down again.
in my opinion at Christmas there will be an increasingly severe decline because there will certainly be many people who sell their assets for Christmas needs, and to this day the market conditions are still worsening especially later at Christmas.

For me, holidays didn't affect bitcoin value or market. In my opinion, it still depends on a user of bitcoins on how they will use it and how many time did they sell or buy it how many users are still using bitcoin until now. It always depends on us that the market will depend on.

Yes, it really affects the bitcoin. If you will think of it in Christmas, there's a gift, the food, and other expenses that is why we need a money in Christmas that means that there will be a lot of people that will trade their coin here. For a smart strategy ofcourse they will lower the price of the bitcoin and I am hoping that the price will rise up again after christmas.

Global events like Christmas / New Year / Easter will have an influence on Bitcoin price because in those times, the transactions are more frequent due to the need of liquidity, affecting to some degree the bitcoin Price.

We may have some degree on the activity of the bitcoin users during the Holiday season or it is the consumer's behavior towards such event when people tend to make a lot of Purchase or maybe use their Bitcoin for buying Gifts and other Utilities only on the country which has the open trading market using crypto. But, on the side of Market as a whole i see no relevant except on the on the trading market, if we look back on the market preview last 2017, it was at the same period when crypto market start to drop, we don't know really what to become towards the of this year, we can only hope against hope that the market will be more stable and favorable to all the crypto investors.

Last year Bitcoin and altcoins were boom period and now it is declining stage every day passing. We have an expectation that before Christmas Day, Bitcoin and altcoins will give a pump but it is still not shown rather it is falling almost daily.

Hey last year bitcoins started booming cause the bitcoins futures were coming, also Fomo played a major role in the prices rising upwards. I don't think we'll see a major price hike this Christmas, at the very best we may just see prices back to 6k levels. The only way we could have seen a pump had Bakkt been launched, but even that has been delayed now early or mid 2019 we'll see the price hike happening.

Sometimes Christmas and other events can affect btc price in the market because some peoples need to sell their coins in order to buy present or other needs in some particular events. Look at this year, even Christmas not yet begin, the btc and other coins price has crashed in the market.

Correct bitcoin profit is big help for us,  it help us to support our needs specially when it comes Christmas time, this season are most expensive cause everyone spending lot's of money, to buy gifts for someone, buy a foods and etc. Bitcoin profit is big help for our expenses to celebrate Christmas.

It could be so. People need fiat money on Christmas and the New Year should sell their crypto coins to buy gifts for friends and relatives. Selling too quickly at a time makes "supply over demand" a downward market that is a reasonable explanation for this time.

Yeah most people will celebrate Christmas, but I think not because that reasons that cause the price of Bitcoin
falling down because on December 2017 we can see price Bitcoin instead is very high.

if you recall, the price of bitcoin also fell at the end of 2017, well, and maybe this is a natural thing. we know that so many people will celebrate the end of this year, and of course they need money for that. so, because of that, bitcoin prices fell at the end of this year.

I was just wondering, to those experts on bitcoin, because I have seen that bitcoin suddenly lay low in going up, and now even plunges.  I needed your opinion.

Does Christmas or any holidays affects bitcoin?
Please elaborate. Thanks a lot
affect what you mean negatively or positively ?, holiday and Christmas I think will have a negative effect because, some bitcoin holders will sell it because it requires a lot of money, it will make the price of bitcoin will decrease.

Who doesn't need money when the holidays come out later in the year? therefore, this scenario is made which is where the price of the cryptocurrency dump is at the level of 4000 USD, and is likely to be ready to bounce up to 8000 USD, like last year 2017, all world eyes are focused on the very epic bitcoin price changes, from 5500 to 18000

Which eyes? The crazy ones for sure haha. Because I do not know a single person who today can even dare predict Bitcoin will jump to 8000 from today to less than a month away much less 18k.

I mean come on, yes Bitcoin can dump and pump so quickly but more than 115% in less than a month? If it DOES happen it will be artificial and will cause it do dump even harder.

yes I also see lately the price of Bitcoin has fallen and turned red in a long time. so how about Christmas? I think it won't affect the market price at all because Christmas or holidays have nothing to do with the crypto world. that's just according to my thinking about Christmas on crypto.

Usually cryptos would loose before the big days, like celebrations or national holidays or christmas etc.. I always exchange my cryptos with the tether (USDT) one or two days before the big days and after one or two days i am exchancing them again.. I usually make some profit with this way and i would recommend you to do the same..
I also notice that!! But overall BTC is not in a good place at the moment, but hopefully, it will get at least a little bit better before the holidays.

according to my study, Christmas will not affect the price of BTC because not everyone celebrates Christmas.
There's no connection for the celebration of Christmas and for the price of bitcoin. What affects are the people who are taking those bonuses during this holiday season.

For those who bought during last Christmas season, we are about to see if there's really a significance with Christmas and bitcoin's price since December is approaching.

Nope it does not affect Bitcoin in any way matter, but BTC's price was HUGE back when in the midst of December and January and it was indeed a jolly christmas for everyone since it looked like a christmas gift to all the sellers who will gain maximum profit out of it, but NO it does not have any relationship between Christmas.

you mean if certain holidays affect bitcoin price / cause price fluctuations?

in my opinion, yes - in certain times but not all the time. i think thanksgiving, new year's and income/real property taxation month make some holders convert some of their bitcoins to fiat / sell to pay bills or spend on gifts. most of the time, it does not have anything to do with holidays but good news/bad news in digital space, bitcoin utilization, and market demand that drive prices north or south...

but, if bitcoin santa is out there maybe we can all wish for a merry bitcoin christmas if he does his magic by giving bitcoin a price boost  ;) this christmas 2018

Christmas is a grand festival! At Christmas time people sell cryptocurrencies to buy gifts!
This will cause the price of BTC and cryptocurrency to drop!

I don't think bitcoin cares about Xmas ,we will still see dumpers and whales taking advantages of the dumpers ,price might start to make sense by January 2019 but still I'll won't except too much as bull run takes time

For me, holidays didn't affect bitcoin value or market. In my opinion, it still depends on a user of bitcoins on how they will use it and how many time did they sell or buy it how many users are still using bitcoin until now. It always depends on us that the market will depend on.

Last year there was some fall in BTC prices before Christmas. This was because people were cashing out their BTC or taking out their profits, may be to enjoy their Christmas holidays.
Yeah there are some who are encashing their bitcoin but it doesn't mean that holidays will affect the bitcoin, it will always depend on us "users" of bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies but not all of bitcoin users doing this. Some of us yes but it will not affect the bitcoin. BIG investors will affect the price of bitcoin and that is why bitcoin price falls down last year is it because who invested big amount in bitcoin and when bitcoin hits new ATH's they encash it to get their profit.

No i dont think there is a huge impact from holidays and christmas. I believe market are in the middle of correction and its happening because the BCH hard fork and hash war.

there is a very interesting theory for Christmas sale, see, regular people use whatever they have in hand to buy their investment, and in christmas they sale a part of it to get hard cash for festival, that makes a huge sale altogether.

- I do not think so, Christmas and big holidays still have a bit of impact on the bitcoin because we can see this effect very clearly on Christmas last year and celebrate the New Year, the value of bitcoin is often pumped very strongly before these holidays come. The cause for this is that everyone wants Christmas and the New Year will have good things, more money and of course, whale groups are no exception, they also want to be more profitable then comfortable in the holidays, that made them work together to push the price of bitcoin up

Christmas people are busy prepare for decorate the house, buy something, and new year, so they need a lot of money to prepare everything, thus they sell some bitcoin they hold and get more money, so the price of bitcoin reduce deeply and need more time to rise as last year.

Christmas season affects bitcoin's price because its demand. The more people can make golds and mining the bitcoins popularity and profit affects the industry. These 2018 the price of bitcoin is slows down and plactuates to its slower movement of price increas.
