I have been in the market for awhile, and always hear the same mantra about trading to hold more Bitcoin and not Fiat.  I bought into the same mentality for a long time, but I'm changing my tune.  In almost every industry, first generation leaders are replaced by competition.  From Sears, Kmart, Nokia, Motorola, Yahoo, MySpace, etc.  Although Bitcoin is the current crypto reserve currency, I think that its dominance is threatened by ALT coins with faster, cheaper transactions and greater scalability.  What do you think?  Is it smart to hold Bitcoin as a long-term investment, or are there better choices among the ALT coins like Ethereum or Litecoin?

I think Bitcoin is the one of the only coins we should long term and that is because it is proven and closest to becoming usable in actual society. Sure Litecoin might be kind of close, but because everybody knows about Bitcoin it is right around the corner for implementation. I just saw a video that showed LN is active in California at a coffee shop, the revolution has begun people hang on to your Bitcoins it will probably be in your best interest.

You must have some serious cash to hold btc long term . Other then that your better off investing in alts with real use cases and major potential.

We can see that bitcoin is suffering from bad news continuously, bitcoin prices are falling continuously in the last days, despite slight but slight recovery. I think that at the moment we should only trade bitcoin rather than bitcoin because the bitcoin boost is extremely low, maybe even backward. If you buy and hold at this point it is very risky.

These above are not a virtual form one, but i don't how you compare bitcoin with the mobile manufacturing companies. If any country comes banning proposal of concern brand phones. It will not evolve in that country.

I don't think you should take your chance with altcoins. Bitcoin currently and will (for a while) have the largest market cap because it's simply the coin that people know of. The amount of people that know about bitcoin versus ethereum is likely not even close. Even if those people were to know the both of them, there's even a higher disconnect between the people who know how they work and those who don't. If a new investor sees bitcoin, a coin that he/she has heard about from her friends, coworkers, news, etc., and then sees ethereum which doesn't have as much of a market presence, I'm sure the investor would go with the safer choice, which is bitcoin.

Out of everything in Crypto, yes without a doubt (this is my opinion) Everything else in Crypto at the moment (besides ETH, and XMR) are coins that really have no purpose at all. They're not doing anything, and they're only priced high due to people just pumping the shit out of them through trading and the fake news.

So yes, if you're here for the super long haul just stick with bitcoin and you'll MOST LIKELY do good in the long haul. Goodluck!

Without a doubt bitcoin is a long-term investment, bitcoin isn't going anywhere, it's just getting started. with LN we'll have faster and cheaper transaction, although it might not be the perfect solution, but i believe there will be other solution to scalability. i'm in for long..

I'll go with bitcoin too.Even from the start,i'm confident enough that i had never made a mistake in choosing which coin to invest.Of course i'll go with the most trusted coin the market,nothing beats bitcoin.I believe bitcoin is the best coin fitted for a long-term hold not just of it popularity alone,but mainly because of its stunning price that anybody could be interested.Plus the fact that its very volatile,it only adds to the excitement of all holders.

Its your own choice on which way or path you would decide to go or proceed.When you do pertain on holding up alts then its your decision since its your money after all but we cant really change the fact that dominance of bitcoin is still higher compared to alts inspite to its flaws which can really be covered up by some altcoins in the market but yet the community to still decide to make engagement with it without any doubts and tending to hold it for long term.

Well,Given the fact that there appears to he growing concerns by different governments on the growth of bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies,I think eventually with time,there will be regulation of Bitcoin which will cause the price to come down eventually,so for now a long term hold for Bitcoin wouldn't really be advisable in my opinion.

This is a given. There isn't a single crypto even coming close to overtaking Bitcoin right now. So the answer is a clear yes!

Bitcoin could be the best long term hold in terms of risk. With Bitcoin being the most well known and most tested coin, it will likely not go away. I think it is a more reliable store of value than any other coin. That doesn’t mean that it will be the most profitable coin. There are probably several or maybe many other coins that will have greater returns over the next year, but no one knows for sure which those will be.

With the way things unfold currently, yes, bitcoin might be the most viable (and safest) coin to hold long term. More and more people, including governments, financial institutions and other large names in the economic and financial industry is checking out on bitcoin, particularly its blockchain technology. Multiple regulations have also been placed to protect people from being scammed, so that is a plus. Compared to the situation of the Dow, gold, oil and other traditional assets, bitcoin is in a pretty good shape. While that isn't enough basis to go all-in for bitcoin, it still is sufficient facts to get some paper going down the way of the coin for long term.


ETH is a really promising coin, tbh, and that is coming from someone (me) who never owned a single coin of that in my entire crypto lifetime. With the way how ETH is utilized, I can see that big investors also have a keen eye on that coin, particularly its dapps which already produced numerous interesting projects.

I agree. I think it is more fit as a long term investment because of its value and the way it moves. Bitcoin is high value, but it also has more chances of experiencing dumps compared to other coins in the market with a small window of massive growth. Like what happened last year, the window when it grew was only about two months in the whole year, thus, if you won't seize that chance then you won't be able to capitalize on any investment using Bitcoin. So, when you get some of it in your portfolio, it should come with the acceptance and patience that you would need a long time before you realize its return.

Bitcoin is the ultimate crypto currency that is far ahead of the rest, and will remain far ahead of the rest. You shouldn't look at altcoins being faster and cheaper than Bitcoin. In most cases altcoins offer cheaper confirmations than Bitcoin because of their lacking network usage. Bitcoin's increasing fees are a sign that the demand for block space has greatly exceeded that what is available, which in my opinion is a good thing. Admittedly, the negative side of this is that the fees have gone up considerably in the last months/year. If you are aware of LN's capabilities, fees and confirmation times if you want, will not form a problem anymore once fully deployed. LN will be the downfall of the major part of the redundant altcoins that this market counts, that's for sure.

For me until now is good for longterm investment but invest only you can afford to lose incase the price decrease you can buy more. You can try to buy also ethereum and litecoin it is good also this two coins for holding for longterm.

As mentioned before, bitcoin used to be the best long-term hold. Here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, many people know the word bitcoin before they know the word 'cryptocurrency'. This will most likely continue for a while, but the word 'cryptocurrency' becomes more and more known.

3. I've read much about Ethereum here, and I ordered a book about Ethereum myself. After reading this, I got a much clearer vision about what opportunity Ethereum gives to the blockchain world. Personally, I think bitcoin won't remain market leader this year and it will either be Ethereum or Cardano leading (or one that we might not have heard of yet).

Always make your own decission regarding investments, my best tip would be to read yourself in, after all reading and personal opinion often lead towards good knowledge and a decission that gives you satisfaction. In my case, Ethereum feels much more safe than Bitcoin to me.

I think that for the following years, bitcoin will still be leading the market. The main advantage it currently has is that it was the first, the brand-recognition(People think of bitcoin when you say crypto-currencies), and that its the coin you use in order to enter the market of other coins.

Currently, some alt-coins definitely provide a advantage over using bitcoin(transaction time & fees), but if these do get improved with bitcoin, it will probably be leading for a long time.

If you believe that cryptos will be successful in the long term, you should probably try to invest in the top 5 coins, according to m.cap, adjusting every week or month, so that even if bitcoin is replaced by other projects, you will still end up gaining if cryptos are successful.

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency in crypto world and it's being the king of crypto world so I think it's the best cryptocurrency to hold for long term. But for now I think price of Bitcoin is a little bit high so it's really hard for investor or holder with small amount of money to buy huge amount of Bitcoin that why there are a lot of investors or holders choose another cryptocurrency also has very good potential with lower price than Bitcoin to hold for long term like ETH or NEO.

No way. That should drive the ETH price to 100k+ if BTC held constant to make your prediction come true. That can happen only in case if BTC fell 10 times and ETH grew 10 times within a year. Very unlikely. I think that BTC and ETH are equally the best holds.

Yes bitcoin is good for a longterm hold,many bitcoiners proven bitcoin to give us a new life.Long term profit is only for those who have savings of bitcoin. Because bitcoin holders like me is just for a short time because when l don't have money l can sell my bitcoin for emergency needs of my kids.Bitcoin only is my hope to give the needs of my kids. I have three kids studying so l can't hold a long term for now. Although l want it too, but l know l can save for my kids future. 

Long term holder is really experienced or really gain  a terrific huge amount of money, it is proven and tested that the bitcoin is really good to hold for a long term because of its high volatility and it is really amazing. The important factors here is patience because if we have patience maybe we can wait for the right time.

True , Bitcoin is a well established coin that we could trust in regards to investing becssweu it actually have a developed system in terms of transactions and invesent that could give people an opportunity to gain profit by following the principles of law of price and demands or dealing with the changes of Bitcoin price.

From the start we can really see that holding is the best on bitcoin feild and patience is an important matter here, many individual gain a huge profit on holding foe a long term,  that is why I really believe that holding for a long term is the best because the market price is slowly rising each day, so then of we are going to hold and wait foe the right price maybe we can gain a huge amount through selling on the right price.

While what you said is true about older systems being replaced by newer ones, I don't think the same is necessarily true for Bitcoin, as the network is likely to be upgraded to meet new demands and compete with newer coins. Bitcoin has the first mover advantage, and is by a long shot the most widely known, used and accepted crypto. I think bitcoin and ethereum are the safest to hold in terms of volatility, but there are definitely some up and comers that will demonstrate better gains.

The only reason Ethereum managed to increase that much in the last year, is solely related to the ICO hype that literally exploded. I however have to point out that this is just a temporary occurrence.

If you look at the massive amount of governmental resistance there is when it comes to ICO's, which I believe is well justified, there is no way anyone being realistic and unbiased will ever hodl Ethereum for the long term.

Nothing in the world justifies Ethereum to have a value ratio of 10% against Bitcoin. That's why I don't understand how people can even buy 1 Ether at a price of anywhere near the 0.1BTC mark.

Holding on such a good coin for long term can surely make good profit for you. If you look at the history, its proven that bitcoin can be the best investment for long term though some may say its a bubble but If you analyze well you can confidently invest on it. Ethereum is always a good choice for investment because it has clear goals that actually don't "mess up" with bitcoin goals. Meaning they are not competitors, and I think both will co-exist. As for the possibility that bitcoin is over taken by some alt, I can't say it's impossible, but it's not likely. For a blockahin to be secure it needs good hash power, and right now bitcoin has that huge advantage over everything else. As for room to improve, don't forget about the lightning network. Once it's ready to go, it will make bitcoin the fastest and more evolved crypto coin in the space, so all the short term advantage other coins have (and that are not even taking advantage of), will be gone. Again it is possible, but not likely.

I'm not doubting bitcoin as a coin that is good to hold for a long run, unlike any other coins out there, bitcoin is one of the coins that is good to invest our money at. Bitcoin have the most big supply in the market, enough to assure that that there is no reason to have second thoughts on investing or holding bitcoin, because if you are going to buy bitcoin and you are just going to sell it whenever you want it, then you are throwing away your profits.

It can be the best long term hold coin for some people, but for some other people it can be not the best because of its price. Buying it now is still a high price means that people need to spend a lot of fiat to buy bitcoin where not all people are able to do it including me.
At the moment, I will prefer on cheaper price coins but has the same chance for long term hold purpose. Coins like eth, ltc, waves, and xrp are my main choice for long term hold now.

Yes Bitcoin has a good future so we can use Bitcoin as a profitable investment. Although I had experienced a price reduction, but that I think is very reasonable because the price of Bitcoin always experience fluctuations caused by various impacts. As alternative, you can choose LTC with medium term investment or ETH for short term investment/ trading. Well a lot of long term investor already profit a lot from bitcoin, nothing is permanent someday an alt will gonna takeover bitcoin but for now you can see that investing in bitcoin is a smart move because it is a genuine coin up until now there is no coin that surpass bitcoin of course there will always be something better that comes up but i don't see that it will gonna happen sooner.

Not only Bitcoin there are many other potential coins which can give long term investments in the market. Already we have seen Bitcoin, Ethereum, Neo, Dash, Montero etc. All these coin have given good potential and good returns to the investors.

For me bitcoin is the best and wise long term investment to have because it has proved to be very appreciative in the past 9 years. I believe other alts such as ethereum and litecoin can be a good investment but I doubt they can appreciate as high as bitcoin does, besides I can see that sooner bitcoin will become part of people's daily lives as a legal tender so surely it will be more valuable in the coming years.

If I where you I would Diversify my investment 50% for Bitcoin 30% for ETH and 20% for neo or any other altcoins you want to invest in that way if bitcoin is down there have you 2 coins that can offset your loss or in eitherway happen. much better not to put all your investment in one coins scattered as much as you can

As far as now bitcoin is the best long term hold but it doesn't means that it will be forever if it needs to stay in the top then it needs to have top qualities when compared to the other currencies.First of all bitcoin got well recognition from all over the world so the chance of keeping the top level for bitcoin is easier than anyother because they still need to do lot of work to reach the level of bitcoin.
I don't think ethereum never canbeast the bitcoin interms of price because its quantity is unlimited so there is no chance of getting huge demand as bitcoin has.

I believe that the current time we should not buy longco-bitcoin hold, can see bitcoin prices are constantly fluctuating and extremely difficult to guess. You can see today bitcoin prices have recovered extremely strong but after touching the $ 10400 level has shown signs of slowing down and turn down. Here users of the cryptocurrency field are making  bulk no. Of transaction so that bitcoin network needed high fees to pay otherwise if we will replace bitcoin by another altcoins then I don't think that coin will play better role then what the bitcoin is playing .

What an utter nonsense. Bitcoin has been subject to extreme volatility since day one of it being a tradable asset, and now you suddenly complain about it being a problem? If you take a look at the all time charts, you'll see how meaningless volatility really is when it comes to Bitcoin's long term price. You are trying to justify the nonsense that you are writing with meaningless arguments that play no role of importance whatsoever. It's mind boggling that people to this day still see volatility as an issue for the long term price. It's a speculative market that attracts smart and ignorant investors each day, every hour, which basically means that the volatility isn't going away till this market has matured properly. I think that at the present time we can buy bitcoin and keep it for a long time. Bitcoin prices are recovering very fast in the past few days, we all know bitcoin has hit $ 19800 and now it's only $ 10,000. So this is an opportunity for us to double our wealth. With a great platform and community response, I believe the bitcoin price will soon exceed $ 20,000 mark.

In my opinion a plattform-coin with solid concept and proof of stake is best long-term hold.
For example, like ADA. It is a not so old coin,(it is cheap)is evolving and you will earn more if you stake them. So you will make profit holding it with two income streams.
1. price is raising
2. earn with proof of stake.

BTC in my opinion is worst long-term investment, because more and more trader are entering the market, they dont know much about blockchain and only hear much about BTC regarding Cryptocurrencies, they buy btc because the want a piece of this advertised holy cake. longer this market exist, more experienced the traders will get.So just ask yourself is BTC in any ability better than any other coin in the crypto market? Also keep in mind: if you want to get a good return of investment BTC have to gain much more. For example you buy BTC now for 10.000 if you want to get 100% roi it has to reach 20.000. But on the other site ADA which you would buy at 0.48Dollar just need to get to 1 dollar and you would get 100% roi.

I think if you want to buy bitcoin and keep it for a long time then it is also a very safe idea. We can see that bitcoin prices are recovering extremely strongly over the past few days and can see stable growth again. Therefore, I believe that if you have a long lasting bitcoin it will be very safe and beneficial. The risk is lower than you trade because the market is constantly fluctuating and difficult to predict.

I still do not know if most of you have refused to see what is going on in the market. If bitcoin is going down hugely, altcoins are going down, if bitcoin goes up and start a bull rally, everyone dumps altcoins for bitcoin, and then altcoin goes down still. The only time altcoins usually have time to breathe is when bitcoin is resting and consolidating.

I really do not need to say more than that to anyone, and whoever does not know that yet by now, I wonder what else they really want to know. yes you are right bitcoin is the best place for long-term investments because bitcoin is a digital currency that has a limited total supply if you look at the condition of bitcoin graphics from 2013 to 2018 this bitcoin always experience price increases.

I think that depends on how long you’re planning to hold it. I wouldn’t hold more than a year or two. If you expect to hold like ten years (which I know is impossible) then you’re doing such at your own risk.

I wouldn’t hold any kind of investment more than a 2 years time… I usually hold for one year or two years. But Bitcoin is good, and I’m not trying to say that Bitcoin will end or something, I’m just giving my own opinion in what I think on all these stuffs.

I think those who invest only in bitcoin do not use a lot of opportunities. Some altcoins have fallen in price much more than bitcoin. In my investment portfolio bitcoin takes about 10%, the remaining 90% are different altcoins. Yes i would like to hold bitcoin for the long term hold because if you look at the price the prices are almost stable and we can not earn any amount in the present time but if you hold this for long term then may you will sell this at a higher price than now and then you will make some money over that. Yes i agree with your strategy in investment cryptos coins, you can get constant income from here, we can make some investing in some alternative coins, personallity i made investment in alternative coins for short term investment usually in daily trading, middle term investment in ICOs token and long time investment in holding on bitcoin, this method has made the values of investment in digital coins increased.

At this time i am starting to hold my bitcoin for longterm i did not convert my previous salary in btc because i believe that it will give me more profit if i will give more patience in holding it and since i have another source of income i don't hve to worry qhete am i going to get my daily needs.

Yeah, I think so because bitcoin has the most high price growth percowhen compared to any other cryptocurrencies so it is the best cryptocurrency to hold for long term until now.

It has made a lot of progress, and we crypto people love it, right. But it's around $10K now if it wants to go, say, 5x, it must get to 50K and it's a hard thing to do. Alts (good ones) make the supposed 5x progress easier, but it's a hard process to spot the good ones that are going to make progress in future, and if you fail and buy pointless alts it would be bad...

From my observation, Bitcoin will stay as number 1 for more than 3 years. BTC is still good for long term investing even staying on top is a very difficult task. I think it is normal that there will be other coins that will challenge your dominance of BTC. It is reasonable to diversify your portfolio having bitcoins 50% and altcoins 50% to hedge you from risk of BTC obsolescence.

Personally, I think bitcoin is not yet sure that bitcoin will be more profitable than investing in other altcoins. Some people did not hold the bitcoin. They focused on analyzing feasible ICO projects, investing in ICO projects, then they succeeded and received millions of dollars thanks to the token sale. I think you should think carefully before making a decision for yourself.

My belief is that the popularity of bitcoin in relation to other altcoins matter most, as it is now bitcoin had the most users and most recapitalized it is investors friendly and widely acclaimed crypto and with a full potentials of long term investment due to it's gradual increment of the price.

for me it is, bitcoin has a great value when it comes to the marketing of cryptocurrency and it is the best for the long term investment. We already trust bitcoin because of its experience and its popularity. Bitcoin has a great increase when it comes to the value of bitcoin and it will have a great amount of investors. It is funny I had the versa idea of yours and I started to change it to be the other way around . I always was measuring my profit with $$ while most people I know was measuring it with BTC . For me "yes" bitcoin is the best long term, because i think bitcoin price fluctuations are easier to guess than other coins. I don't think Bitcoin is good for long term hold because we don't know when the government's mood changes and the next day they announce crypto currencies illegal because now many countries are banning Bitcoin and if you invest your huge amount for a long term and government announce it illegal then you will suffer a very big lose.

I got your point but on my analysis, every time the bitcoin value depreciates, all other ALT coins like Ethereum or Litecoin also depreciates its value.  On the other hand, when  Bitcoin value increases its value all other altcoin follows.  Meaning, all other Altcoin price is basically based on bitcoin price. Those first-generation companies listed haven't all "been replaced" by their competition.  Sears is being driven into the ground by a CEO who has raped the company for the past few years and for his own benefit.  It's an interesting story which I'd recommend googling.  KMart is in the same company as Sears, and with the same CEO.  The guy basically doesn't want to make any improvements to stores and is waaay out of touch with his customers.  MySpace is the only company that really got blown out by competition from FB, but Yahoo! is a close second.  The other companies are still around.

I know that scenario could happen but for now, bitcoin is still the number one choice. We've seen bitcoin cash trying so hard to dethrone btc but it failed miserably. And even if an altcoin succeed to replace btc then it's just very easy for us to trade our bitcoin in any exchanges.

  I guess yeah Bitcoin is the best coin for long term holding. If you look at the Bitcoin billionaires, they are the only people who held onto their coins even when the market was red. Holding the coins even when the market is not good do not harm you and you face no loss because the market always return to equilibrium position due to inbuilt mechanisms.

Probably yes bitcoin is realy realy good for long term trading specialy if you are holding a small amount of bitcoin unlike some people that holding a very huge amount of bitcoin that they can earn a good profit in one swing.

It is better for both short and long term trading because it has growth rate in long term price movement and huge price volatility in short term so we can make money by doing day trading or long term trading.

I think yes, bitcoin the best for long term hold, I used to think the ETH was the best but I recognized that bitcoin was more stable, and in short and medium terms some alts are able to be more profitable but for long term bitcoin the best in my opinion.

Bitcoin is the best long term investment if handle correctly and make decisions in order to get profit  but this investment will take your time to reach at the high market and you caste the opportunity to sell the coins and get profit. As well it can be a short term investment if you invest in a low market and after investment the market jumps suddenly and high market come.

in few months ago, I will agree with your idea. But now, the situation has changed too much. The number of investors who believe in BTC has fallen down. So, it is not easy for you to hold BTC in long term. You maybe are willing to wait more than you think
