Title: Is it possible to have bitcoin shortage?
Post by: jademaxsuy on July 16, 2018, 09:24:01 AM
I do not think that bitcoin will be enough if the whole people around the world will going to buy bitcoins. There will be too much shortage on bitcoin supply and this will lead also to have an expensive market price for bitcoin. As we all know that there are billions of people around the world and bitcoin supply is only limited. So meaning to say in the near future there will be a shortage for bitcoin supply and thus will lead to create another dominant coin like having ether as one of the possibilities that it will be the next to bitcoin. As of this moment i am seeing this already closely to happen. What do you think?

Well, that is part of the reasons why the price will skyrocket because the supply is limited. Just like gold. I think buyers and holders of bitcoin today will be mega rich billionaires in future once the supply declines

It will not come to that point. There will never be a Bitcoin shortage. The value of Bitcoin could adjust up to whatever point it needs just to satisfy the demand and the necessary valuation when the entire world will be using Bitcoin. If the demand is rising so high due to the billions of people across the world using Bitcoin, the market will be assigning a bigger value to every Satoshi. There are eight decimal points in every BTC. It may happen that .00000005 BTC will be valued 1 USD.

You do know that btc was not made so that all people will have even 1. It's only 21 million. and having limited supply and increase demand in the future surely will make the price fly.

If there will be a bitcoin shortage then the price of bitcoin would be that high and everyone can spend each satoshi for the things that we want to have.

You know that this is one of the beauty of bitcoin, though there are only 21 million supply and there's portion of it that were lost completely you can use it and divide it with decimals.

Like today we are using it with fractions so it won't be a problem if you are thinking there will be a shortage.

yes it is possible to have a shortage in the market. we are informed that when we hold our coins the coins are just stacked In our account, it means that the coins in our account will not cycle or not around in the market. so if all user was only do holding like the situation now, they hold only because the price is low. I think it would have a shortage and the price of bitcoin woyld rise up

In my opinion, time will come that there will be bitcoin shortage because everything that exist in this world is just limited and I know business too. Maybe not in this time but time will come that it is just the same with the world's natural treasure or the resources of this world. Things have its own time when to stop or to shorten its life.

21 million bitcoins are not enough for the world population for sure. Even though the bitcoin is divisible to many decimals. It will definitely lead to an expensive market as the demand increases and supply remains the same. But that is one thing a lot of bitcoin investors are waiting for. But bitcoin alone is not sufficient for the world population if the adoption rate increases.

As you have correctly mentioned, people will start looking for other coins to be accepted as a crypto payment option. That will lead the way for ETH or similar worthy coins. What i foresee is that stable coins will create more impact in the future instead of other volatile coins.

It may not be too obvious now about bitcoin deficiencies, but someday if there is a more sophisticated system people will probably move to the system. I believe that everything in the world is limited, so there are always shortcomings and will not last.

Not everyone will need 1 bitcoin.
Bitcoin is divisible down to 8 decimal places. We could even go 16 decimals (or whatever) in the future, it will be enough.

the demand will be high then and price will go up, when there is demand there is always willing to buy at high price. no need to buy a whole bicoin buyer can always buy a portion of it also called satoshi.

you seem to have forgotten that the supply of bitcoin is 2,100,000,000,000,000 satoshi and that is enough for the whole world to use bitcoin. not to mention that not every single living person on the planet is going to use bitcoin. the adoption will only grow to a certain point not to 100% of the world. we currently are at less than 0.5% or at most 1%.

and if years from now we feel a shortage then we will think about a solution by then. talking about it now is pointless.

good point! as bitcoin becomes a lot more popular and used, the price will continue to increase
it's possible in the future 1 BTC is equal to $100,000,000 which means 1 satoshi = $1 8)
then there would be a lot less people holding more than 1 whole bitcoin
so each of us regular people may only need to hold bitcoin in satoshi denomination :P

Yes , it is because bitcoin is limited that's why many other people get a lot of bitcoin as they can ! Because of the news that bitcoin is limited and not for every body , unless if the new bitcoin release then that shortage will going to ends.

Shortage happen to things that does not possess the attribute of divisibility. For example, human beings, when people in certain professions are needed in high supply but the number are not enough, then we have shortage but that does not mean the premium in that profession would then go higher than normal and individuals cannot be divided but when it come to bitcoin, the better word to use is scarcity. And scarcity being one of the characteristics of money, it becomes something normal that should not cause any issue. More especially is the advantage that this bring to the table due to the limited number and if there is any consolation, the forks from bitcoin would continue to technically makes it unlimited for every one to use.

never going to happen.
the other part about bitcoin supply being in satoshi was already mentioned but also you are missing the fact that if we feel that there really is a shortage of bitcoin we can always do something about it.
you can create altcoins all you like but none of them would be as dominant as bitcoin. if there really were a shortage of bitcoin in the future the bitcoin dominance would increase even further because of the law of supply and demand!!!

mining is still existing so it is difficult to say that there will be a shortage of bitcoin also that supply now is really big so it is difficult to say that the supply is going down. I do agree that you can make an altcoin but still cant dominate the bitcoin, its price or its characteristics but it could only have a great future.

Bitcoins total mining capacity is 21 million only. Now the total strength of mined bitcoin is between 17 to 18 million only .After the completion of the 21 million bitcoin mining there will not be any type of shortage of bitcoin in the market because our simple market theory will be applicable, means whenever there is a shortage in bitcoin to the market naturally the demand will increase and hence its price also can be increased considerably ,that is always good for the investors.

no, it has nothing to do with mining and production of new coins. i think OP is mainly confused because he it thinking in terms of bitcoin instead of thinking in terms of satoshi. something similar to all those people who say they can not afford to buy 1 bitcoin because 1 bitcoin is wroth a lot! they don't know or forget that bitcoin is divisible into 8 decimals.

As we all know that there are billions of people around the world and bitcoin supply is only limited.

The 21,000,000 supply doesn't matter because Bitcoin is (or theoretically could be) infinitely divisible. This is also the main reason why it will never be "too expensive." You could buy some for $1 even at its $19k per coin peak if you wanted to.

That being said, I do believe there could be a shortage because supply is fixed. If the entire world HODLs, there will be a shortage. Said shortage will incentivize hodlers even more because it'll drive the price up. This is purely theoretical though, and it's not going to be as simple as it sounds. Take note that it'll take more than a century for the last coins to even be mined.

So meaning to say in the near future there will be a shortage for bitcoin supply and thus will lead to create another dominant coin like having ether as one of the possibilities that it will be the next to bitcoin. As of this moment i am seeing this already closely to happen. What do you think?

How is this happening right now? Lol. The only ones who ever say that Bitcoin is too expensive are people who don't know you could buy very small fractions. People are buying alts because they can make money off them. People only really use a handful for utility, and Bitcoin owns the lion's share of that.

After the comma in the number of bitcoins 8 zeros, and I think whatever the demand was not for bitcoin - it will still withstand the tension.
Just the price of a bitcoin unit will all go up - and that's right, we are all just waiting for this;)

Actually Bitcoin trading happens every day and everyone can get Bitcoin. The supply will be limited and the price of Bitcoin will be higher. So it can still be split up for many people and we do not worry about that.
ETH will be an altcoin that will allow Cryptocurrency to step up to a new level. They are working very hard and developing smart strategies to attract more capital.

It would not happen that their be a shortage in bitcoin as bitcoin was created fixed there is no other way to add the supply except for the fork that will create another version of bitcoin. if there are lot of investors will buy bitcoin there is no shortage still but the price would spike up even higher and higheras the demand is strong.

As far as I know, it is possible to have a bitcoin shortage, because bitcoin is stock in our wallet account and did not cycle. So if ever that bitcoin is used by many people around the world so probably it will happen. They say that if bitcoin shortage happen it means the bitcoin price in the market will get higher so we can to sell our bitcoins.

The price of Bitcoin could be the one that could cope with the demand for Bitcoin. If the price of Bitcoin is too high, people won't buy more than 1 Bitcoin making the current total supply adequate. However, if ever the supply is not really enough in covering the worldwide usage then a consensus might happen that might implement the increase of the total supply.

Sad to say but it's possible because bitcoin is a market. Well if the demand is so high for sure the supply must be able to comply with it. As of now bitcoin is starting to get popular and one of these days many will get involved with the bitcoin so the supply will run out. I don't want that to happen but it's possible because bitcoin is just a scarce.

I definitely don't want that to happen but life is just being fair so sad to say it's possible. Time will really come that we will be having a shortage especially when bitcoin has beenbeen accepted worldwide. If there will be no hoarding and regulated properly then we can avoid that. We only have limited resources so let's use bitcoin properly.

You cant have a "shortage" of a digital currency. The price will just rise even in satoshis. This is not some tangible resource where there are specific number of pieces that would create scarcity.

Dude you need to clear your basics if this is what you think. You will find a number of threads relating to this topic only on the forum. Explore the forum and you'll get answers to your questions. Of course bitcoin can never be short to fulfill any of your demands. This is because of its features of divisibility and that is how only the entire mechanism of crypto market works.

Demand always leads to an increase in the price of the asset. This is the law of the market. But I do not think that in the future we will encounter a limited offer of bitcoins. In this case, we have a question of value.

I think this is where the others are getting that idea about shortage and what if everyone keeps on holding.

They don't want to see the market gets short with supply, its on their mind that in general everyone has been holding and no one wants to use it but that's wrong.

It's impossible for everyone to keep on holding, there will be a reason for one to spend their BTC on hold. As I've said, everyone can use bitcoin not as a whole but in terms of decimals.

That's not painful in your portfolio if you'll use a bit of it.

Bitcoin has limited supply, but it doesn't mean that everyone can't own a part. Bitcoin has 8 decimals, so every people can also own 0.0003 btc each, no problem with that.
21000000/8000000000 = 0.0026 . This is the avarage bitcoin quantity a people would have if btc will be equally distributed. If you own 50$ in btc right now, i bet that in 20 years you will be super rich :)

There is actually no need for other coins. That is why we have mBtc and satoshis.

We can now use it like millions of coins which is seen with altcoins. Imagine if 1 satoshi gains a larger value, then how can you even spend a bitcoin in just a day?

This vould happen only if we all make it as valuable as it should be. You see, this alts could divide the investment which should have been for bitcoin for more demands to come in.

The request will be high at that point and cost will go up, when there is request there is always ready to purchase at high cost. no compelling reason to purchase an entire bicoin purchaser can simply purchase a segment of it additionally called satoshi.

Exactly so, I think bitcoin is not enough for the whole world to use, which means that bitcoin will not be the same currency of the whole world as USD. I think bitcoin is just a coin intermediate so we can trade between bitcoin and altcoin and USD, the market is constantly fluctuating so I think the bitcoin price will be further boosted.

Yes it is possible to have a bitcoin shortage because of it's limited supply. This shortage will make bitcoin more valuable. The price of one bitcoin will very expensive if that time happen. Ofcourse there are other coins  rising but it will not surpass bitcoin in terms of value and demand. As time goes by we can see the value of bitcoin going to the moon very high.

When people hold BTC, they think of making profit from it. And for this there is always an equilibrium between supply and demand of BTC so that the market goes beyond control. When more people will demand for BTC, price will go up and some of the holders will go for sale. Thus one party will demand for buying BTC and another party will release it to the market at higher price. So, chances of shortage of BTC is very low.

It might happen. It's no secret that Bitcoin is only 21 million. While there are dozens maybe even hundreds of millions of people who join here. It can increase the value of Bitcoin. The less Bitcoin the more it will be in search. And more and more in the search it will be more expensive. Then the law of the market will apply. With the limited supply of Bitcoin inversely proportional to the amount of demand for Bitcoin, than the price of Bitcoin will soar.

As of this moment i am seeing this already closely to happen. What do you think?

the more bitcoin enthusiasts and the limited supply of bitcoin can certainly increase the bitcoin price to be higher.
before that happens we should at least have bitcoin.

Not really, if there is a lot of demand for bitcoin then the price will rise.  The more demand, the more the price will increase.  Demand and supply.

Since Bitcoin is finite in number, now is a great time to invest in it. The price is low and will only raise in value. Then, when you next ask the question of whether Bitcoin will have a shortage, you'll realize that there are only a limited number of the coin worldwide, which allows it to keep its rarity. Limited supply is completely necessary for the growth of Bitcoin.

Even though the last mined coin is a while from now, it doesn't hurt to think about it now especially if we're moving towards a tech-centered future. It's not far off to see some kind of crypto currency being used as our lives revolve around our electronics more. Investing now could mean making a lot of money.

Each bitcoin (1 BTC) can have a fractional part of up to 8 digits so 1 bitcoin can be divided into 100 000 000 units. Each of these bitcoin units (0.00000001 BTC) is called a satoshi. So do your own math to see how many Satoshi will be available, if 21 000 000 bitcoins will be mined. <Yes, some are lost already and some are not mined yet, but it is still more than enough>

We have not even subdivided a Satoshi yet.  ;D

There will not be any chance  for the shortage in bitcoin. It is the new system of economy with the strong net work systems.Bitcoin is designed to the total figure of 21 million. Now it has mined between 17 to 18 million bitcoins only till now.If the 21 million bitcoin is mined there will not be further mining and when ever the bitcoin demand increases if there is no supply of bitcoin naturally its price can be increased .

Bitcoin it is only a component in this market, if there is no bitcoin then there will be other potential co-dominates, bitcoin is created constant there is no other way to add the supply except the fork that will create out a bitcoin version.

After several years many people are owned by BITCOIN and of course many different reason why some of them are not able to use or to transact because of many different circumstances such as Bitcoin holder Die or maybe many account lost because of mishandling and I think it is possible bitcoin shortage after several years because of these circumstances and also followed by  unknown holder.

Day by day the demand of Bitcoin is increasing and after reaching the production target of 21 million, there will be no more production and as a result the price will go higher as the demand goes up. It is not necessary to have a whole bitcoin and people can by worth of $1 btc too. So, I hardly think there will be any shortage.

Simple exonimics if the buyer wanted to purchase more the market would probably crrate products with a high selling price in able to sustain the needs of the buyes. Just like in bitcoin, it will not probably experience shortage but the proce will rise, and that is what is everyone wanted to get. High value bitcoin. It will be a cycle, people will buy, then some will sell, then buy and sell. Because people needs something to sustain needs so with bitcoin as a form of meduim they will probably sell.
yes ... true ... with bitcoin medium would be the highest price possible ...... but for the lower needs [lower value] then one should convert it into a lower-priced coin as ETH and on ultimately all complement each other in the role of transaction cycle and there will be no shortage of supply

Yes you are correct and there is a possibility that Bitcoin shortage will happen it is because of the fact that people see it as an investment not as a currency where it's existence and purpose will be. As the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency community will rise the hodlers will also rise and the more people will hidl BTC the more the supply will be getting scarse and that is why prices will also goes up to the moon. I know that time will come that every satoshi will be worth like hundreds or thousands of dollars in the future.

The exchange rate of bitcoin has increased quite rapidly in recent years which of course be a distinct advantage for you who invest bitcoin sell at a higher price than when you buy it. Because of its limited number it is believed that bitcoin prices will get higher and higher, as well as gold prices.

Probably yes! There is a limited supply of bitcoin that mines everytime there is a transaction. However, instead to fear about the scarcity of its supply, I think it is more good to us. Since there is a shortage in the supply, the price easily goes up specially if there are lots of investors that will invest, it will result for a bull market.

What you have stated is known factor for the constant increase in bitcoin's price so nothing new.
Almost every trading asset's price depend upon supply and demand of the asset. Gold supply is not limited but its hard to mine that's why its price is high, bitcoin have limited supply and hard to mine so its price tend to increase more than other metals like gold, therefore interms of investment bitcoin is better than even gold.

When all 21 million bitcoin will be mined its hard for most of the people to even hold 1 full BTC.

you said you own half , so does that mean you have 10.5 millions of bitcoin in your purse? Wtf man , that is pretty big . or you only mean that you only own  0.5 or half of the whole one bitcoin ? if it is then dont be so sad because that amount is still big and will continue to grow bigger as soon as the totall supply of bitcoin will run out.

Its the law of supply and demand, the more people uses bitcoin the higher the priceof bitcoin may,and remember thats why the is alternative coins this will support the lacking of the main crypto and people may use altcoins depend on what service or product they stands for thats why never think of shortages because this will never happen

ya it will happen and that time even a single satoshi will cost you 1$ price so who ever owns a single btc will be a millionaire or billionaire.  That is why it is said that who ever was in bitcoin in starting time they had costed 1 btc only pennis and if anyone saved that time today it will be millionaire and same thing will be said after 20 years that who ever saved today is millionaire after 20 yrs. This shortage will create a very high price for btc and same like ETH will also gain power.

A fixed money supply, or a supply altered only in accord with objective and calculable criteria, is a necessary condition to a meaningful just price of money. In a centralized economy, currency is issued by a central bank at a rate that is supposed to match the growth of the amount of goods that are exchanged so that these goods can be traded with stable prices. The monetary base is controlled by a central bank. In the United States, the Fed increases the monetary base by issuing currency, increasing the amount banks have on reserve or by a process called Quantitative Easing.

In a fully decentralized monetary system, there is no central authority that regulates the monetary base. Instead, currency is created by the nodes of a peer-to-peer network. The Bitcoin generation algorithm defines, in advance, how currency will be created and at what rate. Any currency that is generated by a malicious user that does not follow the rules will be rejected by the network and thus is worthless.

If it is possible, I dont think bitcoin was even created for everyone to hold a bitcoin for every individual. Maybe you misunderstood the real purpose of bitcoin. But if it does come to a point wherein bitcoin would all be mined then that would be the time the price increases because of lesser supply and more on the demand.

That Bitcoin is limited is the truth. If in the future is is widelier used as a means of payment, the shortage is likely happen. But there is solution to this problem: divide Bitcoin to decimal. I'm not sure when Bitcoin will reach to that point called shortage, but that is the solution I can come up with in case a real shortage occurs.

It is obvious for me that all the people in the world would have a desire to buy bitcoin it's price will jump off so significantly that 90% of people in the world would not be able to buy it because they would not afford it basically.

Do you mean shortage as in the reduction in bitcoin supply or shortage as in the reduction in the amount bitcoin mined. well, looking at the amount of bitcoins circulating in the system right now, it is enough. The rate at which bitcoin is supplied is more than that of the demand rate.

I believe it will not happening because there is a systematic relation between demand and supply. If all the people will use bitcoin then supply will increase by its demand.

The shortage are already real now, there's not enough bitcoins now, that's why we pay in the thousands for one bitcoins and that's way some people say, bitcoins will go to 100k or even 1m within few years from now.
If every millionaire wanted to hold one bitcoin each, there wouldn't be enough for them either.
And top of that 4 millions bitcoins are missing and another almost 4  millions haven't been mined. And and just a few hundred wallets hold 80% of the rest of the bitcoins.
So it the crypto markets keeps growing the shortage will be massive in the years to come.

For shortage i can't really say but since the supply is low, it definitely means there will be a time when demand will be high, this will really push up the price in the future ,holders will sell at a massive profit

There won't be shortage of bitcoin, when demand increases with the decreasing supply automatically it is a shortage. Truly speaking the shortage is the one that gets compensated with the growth. In this way can expect price to increase much higher, but it won't be a shortage.

Yes of course you can have a Bitcoin shortage.  You will know exactly when its happening.  The price will fly to the moon in short order.  If the a market is allowed to remain free things like tight supply happen from time to time.  The free market may get wild but it quickly adjusts back to the median.

I partially agree. Not everyone in the world is going to have the BTC, in that sense shortage may come. There are many second choices in this market. But it is also true that there will be no shortage of BTC as it is divisible and the amount is 21 million  coins. The shortage may have come if and only if everyone holds it or try to. Maybe the time might come or not. Looking forward to what happens next.

Yes, it is possible to happen in the future if billions of people will demand for bitcoin and it has only a limited supply and if that time comes then surely bitcoin price is pumping until the moon if we based on the law of supply and demand in the market and I hope and look it to happen when I am still alive.

With a max supply of just 21 million Bitcoins, there’s clearly not enough’s Bitcoins, if everyone in the world wants to own one Bitcoins or more.
However Bitcoins are divisible, so everyone can hold  small fractions of Bitcoins, if that was the case.
I would also start with hodl a Bitcoins first if I was new in crypto today. And then move on to altcoins and ICO for my new investment.

Bitcoin has a limited amount of supply which is 21 million. Through the demand for bitcoin is increasing day by day. But, to reach up to the limitation, people need to be quite rich. Even, there are many places where people don't even connect to the internet connection. We don't know what will happen in future. But, I don't think there will be any shortage of it.

I think a bitcoin shortage will be a reality, but this will be reflected in a higher price given that bitcoin is divisible into very small units of satoshis. There will always be willing sellers, though they may not be willing to sell for what some buyers want.

You can buy bitcoin with $ 100 and $ 50 and you will have bitcoin. The amount of bitcoin is limited to only 21 million, but when you want to have it you do not have to have 1 BTC. If the bitcoin in the future is more functioning as an asset and a place to invest in any amount of money you can have it. But the problem is, when the amount of bitcoin finishes in mining and makes bitcoin rare to have a very high price, will anyone sell bitcoin? they will hold bitcoin until the price they want.

If the system continues to crete bitcoin or if it is indeed needed to sustained the shortage the value of bitcoin will be stagnant where as no people will panicked because of the unstable price. To sum it up, it will be more effective if more people will gladly buy bicoin even in a high price rather than having many bitcoin that will result for everyone not to do task and it might affect the economy as a whole. As of this moment bitcoin aims to help not to create people who are lazy.

I Agree but the more bitcoin`s supply will close to its total supply, then the price will enormously be increased; thus, giving the opportunity of hodlers to sell their coins. So, supply will again be regulated - to the buyer and the seller, that is why it is an advantage for the bitcoin to have minimal supply over its popularity and liquid investments. And what you are seeing in the market is not the reason of shortage, it is hype that enable the information to flow in advantage to the bitcoin.

Yes it is possible for Bitcoin to have a shortage. Even as it is currently, we are already experiencing a kind of shortage. The total Bitcoin supply is 21 million of which 17 million is already in circulation. The 17 million is not even enough for the few people who have already started using Bitcoin which in my opinion are not up to 2% of the world population.

Bitcoin has 8 decimal places, which means there are 21M*10^8 single units which are called Satoshi. If 1 bitcoin costs too much we will just calculate it in satoshis or in another interim unit. It basically requires a name only. In comparison, there are only 80 trillion of US dollar in the world. So it's 21*10^14 Satoshis against 8*10^13 in dollars (or potentially 8*10^15 in cents). So there are slightly more satoshis than dollars. And that considering the fact the dollar mass is extremely inflated by interventionists from the Fed.

We are educated that when we hold our coins the coins are simply stacked In our record,

So if all client was just do holding like the circumstance now,

One of the good will of cryptocurrency is having an exact supply amount which the amount will depend on the developer. This supply causes price to go up as more people want to buy the token. However there can never be shortage of a coin as long as the coin is liquid, being traded continuously. So at every time there will be always be sellers and buyers. For this reason, there can never be shortage of bitcoin but there can be price increase.

Probably it will come in the future  because some of bitcoin already stack in some wallet that we cant open anymore to retrieve that bitcoins. If that shortage will happen its okey because 1 bitcoin is still can split into 100m satoshi so if there is a 10 milion bitcoin left in this world still we can devide it into 1 is to 100m.

And in future bitcoin supply decrease and demand increase which results in the great rise in the history of bitcoin. More and more people wants to invest in bitcoin this is the reason of increment in bitcoin price nowadays. Approx. 700$-900$ bitcoin price increase in previous 3-4 days.

Its impossible because there are big circulations of bitcoin on the market and also there are many more bitcoin to be mined. We have different decisions on using bitcoin, but bitcoin always circulates on the market, because some will sell, and others will buy, hodl and then sell again when the price is high, its allways repeats its process. And everyone who owns Bitcoin also wants Bitcoin in circulation to become a trading tool with Altcoins for profit.

So, all the cycles in each cycle and it will continue for a long time.

If every one can buy and hold I think it will make the demand so high thereby leading to high in price and we all know what it means every bitcoin user will smile at bitcoin.

What do you think?
at the point when all individuals are receive this bitcoin later on, obviously there will be a deficiency of that, on the grounds that bitcoin has just constrained supply, and this will be more turned out to be costly sooner rather than later, evidently, if theres a lack on the supply of bitcoin, theres an altcoins to be use to confine the lack, so the business sectors turn out to be more bustling ups and down, which means all the brisk riser turn out to be more extravagant and most extravagant when its happens.

if more and more people around the world want to use bitcoin while the supply is limited, surely it will make the price of bitcoin more expensive and rare in the market, I will personally save some of my bitcoin before that until it happens.

In my opinion, this is not possible because bitcoin has spread all over the world now. This is no small matter. bitcoin can not be reduced and bitcoin is now a significant currency. It is now being bought by many banking side and selling these things.
Ofcourse its possible to happen, ive red that chinese investor buy 10,000 bitcoin. I dont know if this true, but if this legit there will be a shortage, for those other who invest or use bitcoin. Honestly i dont know the exact number of bitcoin in the market but i think its around 10k to 15k.  And that chinese is selfish.

Yeah it will not come to a shortage instead the market price will be ajdusted meaning to say bitcoins will go high on its market value if people around the world will invest on bitcoin. This could be very interesting to know that if this happen one that hold 1 BTC will relatively get 1000x fold of money invested.

Well, that is part of the reasons why the price will skyrocket because the supply is limited. Just like gold. I think buyers and holders of bitcoin today will be mega rich billionaires in future once the supply declines
yeah this is so true maybe the one who posted the thread was still confused on the demand and supply for bitcoin. The possible movement on its market price or the volatility of bitcoin will be determine by the people who are having some demand for it. Bitcoin will never have a shortage on its supply but rather its market price will increase.

We still remember that Bitcoin has a limited supply. Lacking may not be the right word but perhaps an increase in demand that will drive prices up. If demand will be high in the future it will likely be expensive to accumulate Bitcoin but the nature of cryptocurrancy does not always rise so the market decline will also occur as we will see today.

whenever  there will be a bitcoin lack then the cost of bitcoin would be that high and everybody can spend each satoshi for the things that we need to have.
You realize this is one of the excellence of bitcoin, however there are just 21 million supply and there's bit of it that were lost totally you can utilize it and partition it with decimals.
Like today we are utilizing it with portions so it won't be an issue in the event that you are thinking there will be a deficiency.

Well it may be happen when bitcoin reach the max limit and for sure the cost of 1 bitcoin would be more valuable so there's a chance that many investors hoard their bitcoin and the circulating supplies in the market would be shorten.

the high price of bitcoin will not reduce the interest of investors and traders to buy bitcoin. Limited total supply is indeed to benefit bitcoin holders for the long term and has no effect on the position of bitcoin. bitcoin will remain in the top coin sequence because it functions as a crypto currency (altcoin as a digital asset). this is in my opinion, because I think that altcoins are like goods that are traded. :) :)

It is not so easy like you say. Yes Bitcoin may has a shortage. But Bitcoin has a great trust on crypto market its own. No other coin has any trust like BTC. So If BTC price will go down, we all know that all other coins go after it down. Because no other coin has proved itself yet! There is so long way to happen that.

Its very right, There will be the shortage of bitcoin supply. Many people are already dealing with bitcoins and now many more people have joined crypto family and are demanding bitcoins. If more and more people will demand bitcoins, then definitely there will be shortage in the supply of bitcoins which will lead to the higher prices of bitcoins. As its a well known fact that "As supply decreases, the price rises". There are very limited no. of bitcoins as its only 21 million. So definitely it will lead to shortage in supply of bitcoins.

there is a possibility that Bitcoin shortage will happen it is because of the fact that people see it as an investment not as a currency where it's existence and purpose will be. As the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency community will rise the hodlers will also rise and the more people will hidl BTC the more the supply will be getting scarse and that is why prices will also goes up to the moon

It Wil Continously as a mode of payments of any services and goods. The only thing that matters at that time Will be the price , either it Will become cheaper or it Will become too expensive.  So what do you think if  Bitcoin becomes rare in the future?  Just like some other goods , if it is rare , the price is too high.

From what I know,  I think bitcoin is not unlimited and even it is sounded cliche,  it is also goes for the saying that everything is limited. It is true to bitcoin and it the supply significantly affects the demand that will eventually affects the price of bitcoin. This factors are coexisting and one will really affects each other.  If the supply is unlimited,  I think bitcoin will have a very low price because it is available worldwide with various amounts again,  if it unlimited. So for me,  bitcoin is not unlimited and is limited to such amounts.

So i must say that bitcoin right now will not be shorted as there are still a lot of lack of supply. And when the time that all bitcoin has been mined, i think that will be the time that bitcoin will be in shortage.

Yeah, what you say is true. One of the reasons why bitcoin cannot be actively used as a transaction because the amount of bitcoin is limited. This limited amount makes bitcoin very minimal in terms of movement because not everyone who has bitcoin will play their bitcoin every day. That's what causes many people to switch to owning altcoins rather than bitcoin. The longer people who buy altcoins will become love with their altcoins rather than their initial love of bitcoin.

yes of course! the bitcoin have only limited supply. the bitcoin is not unlimited. the supply of the bitcoin all over the world is only limited. like this time. the price of the bitcoin is lower and many of us are planning to make invest and the others are pnly holding.it means, if they do only holding the flow of the bitcoin in the industry will stopped. in this way it is possible to have a shortage.

But for now it is very questionable since not all are really into cryptocurrency like bitcoin. Because bitcoin is planned to be limited in number, so while the maximum amount has not been reached the price is still not normal, the ups and downs are very large. If the whole world holds bitcoin, you can imagine how valuable bitcoin is because supply and demand are not balanced. Then what will happen? There are two possibilities, the price will be very expensive or the price will fall. While other crypto currencies will advance even if not as expensive as bitcoin.

Deficit generates demand, and consequently - prices for scarce goods are growing. As you know, the maximum number of bitcoins is limited to 21 million coins. The restriction on bitcoin emissions, coupled with the loss of coins with loss of access to purses, makes this deflationary currency.

I think yes, if all people around the world want to own bitcoin. It could be not enough to all of us, and that time the price well boom and bitcoin holders gain their so much blessings.

Bitcoin supply is limited, but as long as there are transactions I think the supply of bitcoin will not run out,
unless all bitcoin owners store the bitcoin they have and never sell it, but is that possible? try thinking again.

It has been estimated that the last Bitcoin will be mined around 2140. So many people have projected that there could be a shortage after all Bitcoin has been mined.
But this wouldn't happen if Bitcoin is serving it's purpose as a currency. This way Bitcoin people wouldn't hodl BTC and there could be proper exchange of the digital currency.

I think not yet possible that bitcoin will get shorted because we can see that bitcoin is continuously mined and there are millions of people who are investing into bitcoin and there are millions of bitcoin present in the market and this is like other Fiat currencies which keeps on circulating and there are very rare chances that it could ever be fell short otherwise bitcoin bitcoin is very sustainable crypto currency and I am sure that it will last for many decades.

well, Bitcoin has a limited supply so that will be obvious that not everyone will not get a share on the supply of Bitcoin. And the more that everyone wants to get a share of Bitcoin, the more the demand became higher and the more the price of Bitcoin will rise since the price of Bitcoin is based on the law of the demand and supply.

The shortage of Bitcoins is possible. I think every big increase in the price of Bitcoins is due to a shortage of Bitcoins. We all know that Bitcoins were designed to cut production by half every four years. This rule is thought to have something to do with the previous two bull markets.

The price will skyrocket (as it has in the past) if we start to get a tightening supply of Bitcoin.  I doubt a shortage is possible.  Everyone has their price.  The ETF will allow the banker/govt to print unlimited bitcoin.  That will be interesting.

There cannot be a bitcoin shortage. It has limited supply , so if there is more demand , the higher the prices, that is why it's better than common fiat which has somewhat unlimited supply leading to inflation. That's why bitcoin is better than fiat but the powers that be will not let it come to the fore.

I believe that if will several dominant, global coins, then this will be very well. Because now many crypto-currencies are somehow tied to bitcoin and react very strongly to the change in its price. But there are those who react in the other direction. The more global coins will be on the market, the better I think so.

I don't think bitcoin will ever short. The price will rather increase drastically. Maybe 1 SAT might be worth $10 or $100 in some years to come. It all depends on the scarcity but it will still be enough. And maybe we may start trading and selling sub satoshi like CryptoHub is doing.

First of all, every Bitcoin can be broken down into 100 million Satoshi. This is the real unit of the cryptocurrency. In addition, new bitcoin is being added to the supply continually.

Although the new cryptocurrencies have names like "Bitcoin Cash" or “Bitcoin Gold," they have value because of their association with bitcoin and effectively increase the total supply of the bitcoin "brand."

The acceptance and use of a cryptocurrency gives it real long-term value. This is the next development in the world of blockchain, and it is already taking place. Political arguments regarding decentralized authority are less important than the real-world goods and services that can be obtained with the coin.

Yeah i agree with yours , that in near future we will see bitcoin shortage. I mean worlds total population 7.5 Billion. And as the blockchain technology now reaching to almost every countries and as it is very cheap , it is matter of time that many people will learn more about it and will be very much interested in btc. But bitcoin total supply 21 million among those ~17 million Already mined and it is a matter of time that all btc will be mined ( though mining becoming more difficult with time). Then definitely we will see bitcoin shortage . But this can also be a good news to us  , because due to limited supply and more demand price of bitcoin will increase simultaneously which can affect the whole crypto market.

If it's calculated mathematically and measured based on each person's wealth, 21 million bitcoin supplies will certainly not be enough to be owned by everyone. But we also know, every bitcoin we can divide into billions of satoshi maybe with this division everyone's need for bitcoin can be fulfilled.

I don't think so. Bitcoin  is decentralized. It can't just be centrally controlled nor can it be hoarded to create scarcity. Moreover it is designed to multiply or increases in value to takecare of the scarcity as many people buy in... Unless maybe all existing Bitcoins are bought at time by an entity and hoarded. It is even impossible to buy every Bitcoin at thesame times as its limited capacity won't allow that.

If the demand is high enough then and price will go up, there’s only 21 million Bitcoins, 4 millions haven’t been mined and another 4 million are lost.
That’s why the price of Bitcoins is so high. If every millionaire in the world wanted a Bitcoin they would not be able to own a whole Bitcoins each

I see that most people are fond of theory, which is generally far from real life. I still see that bitcoin several times will actually rise in price quite high, but not for long and each time will fall due to panic for many reasons. At its core lies the fear of the bitcoin holders for their large investments and the usual human greed. Partly will work and the lack of security bitcoin. They will not allow bitcoin to rise high in price for a long time. Bitcoin will periodically fall very deeply after such ups until investors understand this and will not refuse to invest in it at significant price points. I can not say what highs in the price bitcoin can achieve, but I think that it will not be more than one hundred thousand dollars. As a result, bitcoin will not be valued much higher than the rest of the coins, and then, this is with a good forecast.

At present, the amount of Bitcoin in the world has been exploited for 18 million coins. The rest are just over 4 million, but they are very difficult to exploit, the algorithm becomes more difficult, so the exploiters need a lot of power, for that purpose.

Bitcoin shortage is not even applicable since it was created with a limited fixed supply of 21 million. Let's say that all of the Bitcoins have been used up, then that's it! No more will be created despite of increasing demand. Users will have no choice but to move on to another potential coin. As simple as that.

IMO, there won’t be a Bitcoin shortage since the price will adjust according to demand and supply. Bitcoin will get more expensive in the case of more buyer and less seller.
I agree. Bitcoin can be more expensive when less seller on it. More demand will change the price positively and that will happen when people learn who important to hold is and buy more volume to be much profitable but once the price goes up far, everyone sell and price goes down again. That is how the market circulates, high price makes us to be greed wanting for more but there are people who knows how much to wait to gain good profit and decide immediate sell.

I do not think that, there will be bitcoin shortage will happen any time soon. It will get to a time that the demand of bitcoins will be very high but that does not mean there will be shortage, more bitcoins will be mined.
Bitcoin has shortage when there can be increase in demand but it just happen for short time because when you know that you already have enough holding and it much profitable, no need to hold any longer and sell it which provide another supply in the market. Being in highest price stays shorter than when the price is cheaper. Shortage is not going to happen that far because we hold cheaper coin that give huge profit even the price do not get the value it had last year.

That is a sound analysis actually. At 21 million finite bitcoins to be mined, the time will come when shortage might just happen. As with the continual desire and interest of many to get involved in the bitcoin market, that 21 million bitcoin might not be enough. Add the fact that there is an estimated total of 17 to 24 percent of current bitcoin in circulation that is lost, the total bitcoin after the last one has been unearthed will be well below 21 million.

And yes, we just might see an alternative-to-bitcoin coin or token to emerge as the second sought after cryptocurrency as an alternative which is good for the whole of cryptocurrency.

It's possible if massive adoption happens the price of Bitcoin will surge and there will be shortage of Bitcoin because people will prefer to hold I don't know if this is good for the eco system of Bitcoin because there will be fewer transactions because people will prefer to hold than use it to buy or transact.

I think this scenario is very possible. It could a group of investors will hoard a lot of bitcoin and then they wait for that shortage because they are just keeping to make the price explode. But I think the altcoin could also save us from that ugly situation.

The bitcoin is only 21 million coins and they said they will divide it into decimals to provide for many.Yes, the price may soar high but I think one reason there are many cryptocurrencies now is because of its lack of supply already or its price and volatility.

It is very possible to have a bitcoin shortage because the supply of bitcoin is fixed and that means that if the demand will continue to grow over the time then that will just give bitcoin a shortage because the supply is not enough to sustain the demand of the people in the market from buying it.

That would indeed not create any kind of bitcoin shortage ;D Instead the price fir bitcoins will surely blow up and will reach some new heights. There are about 21M bitcoins in circulation and the price for them depends on the demand and supply factor. The price will always keep on rising as the demand for bitcoins will rise so we all should hope a better demand ahead as you mentioned and it would surely get us huge profits for holding bitcoins.

I think Bitcoin will not be short of supply to meet demand, because I know that Bitcoin can be broken into the smallest part, and the price will increase following market demand, and Ethereum will be the second choice after Bitcoin.

Shortage of supply make the price to go up. I believe that it won't take long to have very limited supply because everyone are not that greedy to keep on holding and they may sell after analyzing to get high profit from it. Even demand is increasing on the market, many are giving chance for them buy selling and get the price lower and affordable by them.

If does then people will not only focus for the bitcoin to use since this will be much precious ,and if i were to choose i will prefer buying cheaper coin with the same function.after that do you think shortage will come?i believe its not right?

yeah i know but if all the people around the world will going to invest on BTC how much market price will it be for bitcoin? This could make some confusions when there are a lot of zeroes after the decimal point. So basically there should be a remedy that could not affect bitcoin market price at the same time the supply will grow.

Indeed, the price will increase if demands calls for more people to start buying and holding bitcoin, things like this really make me invest my hard earned money to this system, believing that time will come and more adoptions will occur many will see that the value of even single satoshi will be more expensive,
no shortage will happen but continuous growth in terms of value, better to buy why while price still cheap and store it inside your safe wallet.

no its not confusing at all . bitcoin is measured that way , so if ever the value increases , you can still see a lot of zeros when you are dealing about satoshis  .

what remedy ? theres no remedey because the price will always grow as soon as there is a lot of demand from the public . supply of bitcoin will not also grow since its already given that the supply is only limited to 21 million .

A good point.

Just to add, if the demand will constantly increasing, the circulating supply will be the same as halving is the one responsible for this. The last bitcoin will be mined by 2140 in which new bitcoin that appear every year will decrease. So even people are dying to own some when there's just limited bitcoin in every year then they will have nothing to do but to buy even it's damn expensive. And there's no way to have a shortage in bitcoin hence people who hold bitcoin now is fortunate.

And having a finite supply, as so their scarcity increases.

As far as i know, 80% of bitcoin has been mined so that means only 20% left to supply the market. If the remaining 20% mined, the supply will now limitted and the value will become higher. This is caused by the law of supply and demand where no supply with high demand leads to high prices.

Whether there is a shortage or not, it will still be a good thing. As we all know, we make the market possible and shortage means less supply and higher value. To be specific, this is the law of demand and supply, when there is scarcity in the sources or the demands, prices are high, like for an example gold. Even if this happens, it only goes to show that crypto currency is growing and that the market can potentially grow and increase in the future.

I really doubt it. But it can happen given that there has been a substantial amount of bitcoins left in other wallets and will not be able to access them without the key pass. That's a bummer since no one will ever retrieve that bitcoin and recirculate it back to total supply.

I think, it's possible. Remember that we have only limited supply of it and it is expected to be all mined by 2040. But I don't think it will affect how we make our merchandise 'coz we have altcoins for different use cases. The good thing here is that limited supply usually drives up the price.

No that wont happen that bitcoin will be out of order as the supply deteriorates the market price will goes high and for that bitcoin market price will just go higher but it could never lose its supply. This is the law and demand supply of cryptocurrency the greater the supply the lower its market price and the lower the supply the higher its market price will be.

If there would be no shortage, but infinite amount of coins printed every day, then the value of Btc would be 0. The reason that Btc, or anything else, has value is that there is limited amount of them available. If demand increases, then price increases, because supply can't increase.

I think that it is possible to have the shortage of btc but it is not 100% that this will happen. to my mind, btc is a powerful coin and soon more and more people will understand this and buy it

21 million bitcoin supplies will definitely not be enough for everyone. But we also know, every bitcoin can be divided into billions of satoshi maybe with this division, everyone's need for bitcoin can be fulfilled.

For now it won't happen. Because now not the whole world depends on it. Only the crypto investors and user connected with bitcoin. But if its possible that bitcoin will be a global currency than it can be happen that bitcoin will be short for the whole world.

The total supply of bitcoin will not be enough for the entire world population when it's ready for global adoption. It will result in its price rise, many people will be as lucky as owning a few satoshi.

This is the high cost of bitcoin. If there were an unlimited number of them,it would not cost so much. This is why alternative coins are created.Ethereum is certainly in the lead. But look at the stock exchange.I've lost count of how many new coins there are. Each performs its task. And Bitcoin is gold!)))

This supply causes price to go up as more people want to buy the token. However there can never be shortage of a coin as long as the coin is liquid, being traded continuously. So at every time there will be always be sellers and buyers. For this reason, there can never be shortage of bitcoin but there can be price increase.

You are right, bitcoin only have a fix supply and some of them already lost in some wallet that cannot be recovered so as time passes by the price of bitcoin rises up more.

There is a possibility that Bitcoin can undergo shortage in future. This shortage keeps the price of Bitcoin high in the market. If it was cheaper and available to all, then maybe it wouldn't have been this popular in the market.

I have said before also that their will be shortage but the price valuation will change and that time 1 sat will be equal to 1 usd so the ratio will be equal and who ever will be holding 1 btc will be like a billionaire.

Like how in the initial stage lot of users were holding lot of btc but value of the btc was 1 usd or less. and some of them just lost the wallet details as the price was very low and who ever kept it safe also sold it in 2017.

So in coming days the coin will be divided between more users and high stake users will become less.

Looking at how the blockchain was created and the kind of coin btc is. Always people are buying and selling btc so we have a large amount of circulating volume. The moment people try to only hodl and not sell is when we will see shortage.

What do you mean BTC shortage? I guess if so many people wanted to buy BTC they would have to buy a certain amount of satoshi, and that's it. Of course BTC is limited and we all know this.

Well, shortage will be avoid if there's a balance between investing and selling. But for me, it is good of there is a high investment, since investing is the reason to increase bitcoin that is why the more the investment the more the higher the bitcoin price is. :)

I think its no because 21 mlllion bittcoin spreadout all over the world inside virtual digital system it  will not srotage even 100 years.

The possibility of bitcoin deficiency because of too large demand can also occur, but it is still too far to think about, because what matters most to me is how we can take advantage of the situation and conditions that are happening to bitcoin price movements in order to benefit in bitcoin investment.

As we all know that halving is a part of it and the supply of Bitcoin is going to diminish over the period of time so the law of demand will take place and we will see growth in the price where there will be a limited supply of Bitcoin, on the other hand, Bitcoin has the potential to serve as a payment system on the international level so there is a scope for growth in demand. It is mutually agreed that the supply of Bitcoin will never be more than 21 million coins.

Somewhat yes but somewhat no, maybe. Yes because if all the trades hodl and didn't sell their coins probably the supply of the BTC or a particular coins or tokens will decrease. Who will sustain or provide the BTC now? Miners and other traders that normally circulates the coin and token. If this will ever happen surely BTC will boob again and after the boom the value of BTC will again decrease as there are now too much of supply.

Title: Re: Is it possible to have bitcoin shortage?

this is not possible because there are big circulations of bitcoin on the market and also there are many more bitcoin to be mined.the event that it comes to a point wherein bitcoin would all be mined then that would be the time the cost expands in light of lesser supply and more on the request

It is not possible, bitcoin is a digital currency and just as fiat currency, I don't think there can ever be shortage, the price will only go up and down depending on the demand and supply. This does not imply that there is shortage of bitcoin. ;)

Bitcoin supply is limited to 2.1 crore that is really limited. From your point if whole people buy bitcoin, there will be shortage of supply. You know all people will not buy bitcoin, but most of the people could buy bitcoin in the future. This will create low supply and high demand situation, that can lead to jump the price like rocket speed.

I don't think this is very possible. Though if everyone decided to hodl onto there bitcoin, we might have a shortage of bitcoin and the demand might be a little higher but not that the shortage will be obvious that much

I think the lack of bitcoins will not be because every bitcoin can have 100000000 parts. This is quite enough to create a currency that will be enough for all the inhabitants of the earth.

in any case there is nothing perfect, it certainly has flaws, we know BTC is the top coin with high prices and a quality system, but if we see from the system there are many shortcomings but not too bad. so basically all coins have advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, because in my own opinion shortage is always occur when there's an low of supplies but a high demand. So when we connected it to bitcoin, if all people in the world are want buy bitcoin, shortage will occur. Is this possible? Yes because we all know that bitcoin is international and it is a free access so if all countries are designed to accept bitcoin and if all people of that all countries are willing to buy bitcoin I could say that shortage is coming.

I also think like this "is the amount of Bitcoin currently enough for all people in the world", maybe that reason also caused the Hardfork coins to appear.. and I think this step has been read by Ripple developers who put out their coins up to 39 billion or Stellar Developers who circulate their coins for 29 billion because they think "if we issue only tens of millions coins, that amount will not be enough for the entire population earth"

There are more than 4 million untapped bitcoins. In the future bitcoin will be rare and bitcoin prices will increase. But it will not be a problem if you are thinking that there will be a shortage because you can use it and divide it with decimals

I do not see that, because in the crypto market I see that there are always people who sell and some who buy bitcoin. So I think we will not see the lack of bitcoin as long as the market is still moving and bitcoin sales and purchases are still going on.

I can't say that the existing bitcoin cannot fulfill the huge market's desire to have bitcoin. It's just that the creators of the bitcoin currency want to maintain or stabilize the value of bitcoin itself. so that it produces limited bitcoin currencies. if it's too easy to get bitcoin, then the value of bitcoin itself will fall free.

Well, that is part of the reasons why the price will skyrocket because the supply is limited. Just like gold. I think buyers and holders of bitcoin today will be mega rich billionaires in future once the supply declines
I think we can't see a shortage as someone around the world will sell their tokens if the price rise and the price will increase once the demand increases. If the price is high enough then we can transact in a satoshi.
