Bitcoin was invented to disrupt "PayPal" because paypal was built on an idea of centralization which is not helping people from other countries. Yet, bitcoin has restored that very stolen idea of decentralization and freedom to the people. People are now using bitcoin all over the world because it's fast, secure, decentralized, and low fees in-terms of transferring value between two parties. Finally, but not least... Bitcoins has changed many people lives more than anything since the invention of the internet!

Bitcoin is, at the moment, the best attempt to solve the Bizantine problem: none could come up with a better solution.
From my point of view, it also solves a big current issue: privacy. That said, maybe it won't be the inventory of the century but could change how we perceive our financials!  ;)

bitcoin for me gives a lot of convenience, bitcoin very fast in transactions between countries and with low cost. because of the many advantages that make bitcoin so bitcoin as the best effort in this century

I've always argued that when speaking of the Byzantine problem the first thing that comes into my mind is a 51% attack rather coordination.


As for inventions...I could live without a mobile phone, a computer, facebook or paypal as I did in the past ... but a fridge? That would be a problem.
In the last century probably the greatest ones were vaccines but nobody talks about them while they did save millions from death.

It's impossible to tell what the "invention of the Century" is when we're less than a fifth of the way through it.  Unless of course you have a very good time machine.

By the time that it would be reasonable to have an opinion on the subject (83 years from now), most of the people commenting on this thread will be dead and their opinions will be long irrelevant.

Of course this is just another one of those "hey, you people are on a Bitcoin forum, I guess you like Bitcoin then?" kind of threads which will probably get 1000+ replies within a week because of how interesting the completely bullshit premise is.  I'd better give up having any reasonable discussion here.

So far, maybe yes, but we are still at the initial stage of the century, and we can still see a lot of maybe, better invention in coming time. But bitcoin is a revolution, for sure. It has totally changed the face of online economics and the ways of transacting money from one place to another. People never thought it can be so easy for someone to send money to each other one day, but bitcoin made it possible.

I do agree with the statement that "Bitcoin is the invention of the century!" but I feel it should be more proper if you call as an invention of the decade and not century. However, I don't agree with that thought that the idea of bitcoin is stolen from Paypal because is not a crypto currency and it doesn't have a inherent value. It is just a payment facilitator and nothing else.

Blockchain technology has taken the idea of a free world currency and it's how bitcoin was built. The decentralized and anonymous currency free from country restriction. However, there are few governments and specially banks are after bitcoin because they think bitcoin can destroy their business. So we are receiving organized attacks from them to bring the price down.

Thirdly, I do agree with the statement that, bitcoin has changed the lives of many and it indeed is. A lot of people are earning a decent living because of bitcoin. It is also a great investment asset to many people like me. It is indeed the innovation of the decade for me.

But I believe so because if you look at the last seven years nothing grow so fast like bitcoin and it helps a lot people.

It is indeed true that bitcoin is one of the best invention of the human mind in this century but I do not agree that bitcoin was made to disrupt paypal. Bitcoin was a decentralized currency which is made in revolution to the current situation of the centralized banking situation. So paypal was nothing to do with the creation of bitcoin in the first place.

There is a lot of technologies that can be made to send money from one country to the other country. I think the best thing bitcoin gave the people is the blockchain. The blockchain can be improved and developed to be used in a lot of things not only here in the digital currency. It is like a gate of possibilities where it can be made to open a new gate for the better future and purpose.

Most of the big countrys and banks are mainly knowing about blockchain technology only, as they know that if they use blockchanin technology in their system will be very useful

Not sure about Bitcoin itself. Cryptocurrencies have now been around for 8 years and are definitely here to stay. As mentioned above, the blockchain technology might gain a massive foothold this century in our society while Bitcoin itself will probably get overtaken by better performing crypto. I believe this process is already set in motion: before 2017, BTC absolutely dominated the market with a market share of at least around 80%. This year, BTC has lost a lot of terrain to some emerging alts.

When aircrafts were invented, Biplanes were initially the way to go but those planes later got surpassed by better performing, jet-driven aircraft. You could compare BTC with a biplane and future emerging alts with jetplanes.

Bitcoin can not compete with the payment system, but its creation has really changed the lives of many people for the better and they can now provide for their family.

To truly be sure that its invention of the century, you must first understand Bitcoin completly. I mean if you don't understand technology how could you know its so unique invention that wasnt possible before.

If you want to look for "inventions of the century", look elsewhere. Medical research, for instance, has been running faster than ever. Bitcoin is great fun, but to the world it's nothing.

I'm also hoping that scenario on which Bitcoin stay for long years because it can help many people and also it can support everyone needs. Bitcoin community become strong as the years past and more investors are continuing to come that can cause to Bitcoin a high price.

Really disruptive inventions usually take some decades to come to life to the general public and usually are known only for experts if not totally secret when they are born. For example: electricity, the atomic bomb, internet, smartphones, flying applied to war and transport, caravels, and so on.

I think, with all respect, that all the inventions above have been more disruptive than Bitcoin  and I doubt there are no similar things(in terms of disruptiviness, if the word exists at all)  being developed now, but still invisible to the public.

I agree with that. In fact, bitcoin made transactions convenient. Currencies are bypassed which in return offer small fees compared to other money remittances and you can send without your personal details being wrecked. It is indeed a brilliant invention.

Blockchain is the best invention so far for this century. Let us wait and see if there will be a better invention. There are lots of promising invention that is being research right now. If those comes to reality, it may overshadow bitcoin.

Actually i believe Bitcoin is very strong currency over the wrold wide.I hope everybody agree with me.It is very difficult to predict BTC is the invention of the century but i believe in my heart its possible to invention of the century.

I can't agree with your statement for multiple reasons. First, it has only been 17 years of this century, and we don't know what else will be introduced in the future - there are so many possible breakthrough technologies like AI, space travel, fusion power and so on, so it will be to out grandchildren to say what was the invention of century. The invention of 20th century was without a doubt the Internet, because it has radically changed lives of almost all people around the globe, but we don't know yet if Bitcoin will be able to do so - it's not entirely clear if mass adoption will be reached or how much people will be actively using Bitcoin.

Smart phones are an invention from the 20th century that only got popular in this century, a good exemple of what I said. According to Wikipedia they got patented in 1994, but since Nikola Tesla himself conceptualized them much before.

Well ethereum and the likes that are yet to surface are all Altcoins and they cannot compare to Bitcoin. There's nothing to be built apart from what Bitcoin has established and it is the reason why I agree with the OP that it is the invention of the century.

Bitcoin and blockchain are great new technologies but for the invention of the century i prefer counting medical and environmental inventions.
We can leave without blockchains but medical inventions are vital for us  ;D

I think it is. Things that we hear of like electric cars have been around for at least 20 years. The Internet was big, but it's a thing of the 20th century. Bitcoin will be the thing that changes 21st century.
It's important to say that Bitcoin isn't as big as Blockchain. Bitcoin uses blockchain, but blockchain can be used for many other things like voting, confirming gambling rolls, signing messages and more.

Bitcoin is an unique thing in this digital era. It can be use as investment and also currency so people may interest this one since this world getting advance and they want something fast especially when they are doing transaction.

I am rooting for the medical department engineering and for other sciences to create an invention or innovation of our current technologies. Bitcoin most definitely is not and will not be the invention of the century. Technology is catching up at lightning speed, and every year that passes, a multitude of ingenious ideas are thought of. What bitcoin will be is one of the life changing inventions that mankind has witnessed. The printing press, the assembly line and first automobile, the internet, now blockchain which is a product of the internet and computers. We no longer have to deal with banks, no more middlemen, we can see all the records for any transaction.

The blockchain is the invention of the century. Bitcoin is just a product of the blockchain, which is the underlying revolutionary technology.

But yes, Bitcoin has to be one of the greatest inventions ever considering what utility it is disrupting - money. And ultimately money is a synonym for control. In essence, the true benefit of Bitcoin is economic freedom. And since it is opportunity for all - no matter whether you are green, yellow, blue or pink - you can participate in Bitcoin and the Blockchain. Most people in first world countries are blind to how poor and disadvantaged 3rd world countries are when it comes to the current economic system and Central Banks. Maybe you are right, but there have been a  lot of inventions in this century (2000-at the moment) i dont know if do you remember, but smartphones were a good invention too, almost all technologies were created in the last 17 years, so i dont think that bitcoin was the best of them, since without the pc's technologies then it would be impossible for bitcoin to be created.

I totally agree with all your statements! Although I think that Bitcoins' model was patterned to that of the olden times whereby people use gold to facilitate trade and commerce/barter and exchange. So it is not entirely new because the idea has long existed centuries ago. It is the fact that Bitcoins exist online that sets it apart from gold. Hence, Bitcoins have extensively penetrated the market worldwide because an internet-based currency is faster than any other currencies that are regulated by central banks. Gold has never been accepted as a mode of payment online, at least as far as I know. That is why the latter is inferior as compared to Bitcoins in terms of reaching the market in this day and age.

I would argue that blockchain technology is the invention of the century. It made bitcoin and other altcoins possible, and it has several other applications. Bitcoin is high up the list for sure, as it is revolutionizing the way we do transactions, but blockchain is still the bigger innovation.

I don't think that a payment system can be considered as an invention of the century as their is no revolutionary thing that it did nor did it solve any global problems about the payment system. Oh yes bitcoin is truly the invention of the century, nothing like this has ever been put in place like this before. It has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that its usefulness and impact to the world. Imagine being able to run transactions at your comfort with low transaction fee and control your wealth.

Lots of innovation has taken place in this century. Internet has made a big change in the entire functioning in all fields and also it is the one that has provided the increased efficiency. I think internet is the most imprtant invention of all humankind in the last century. It changed all our social and business lives. New generation does not have any idea of living without internet. I can not imagine an office, which has desks without desktop or laptop computers. Internet also changed commercial ideas, and shopping. People get used online shopping, therefore stores are closing because online shopping is more profitable for companies.

For me bitcoin is the key to success, created not only for investors but to those who longed to have a decent job and working at home. Everytime i talked to my wife who is one of the luckiest person to ne involved in bitcoin world. You are correct, I have a family member who is working in canada and just recently he uses bitcoin transaction because i advice and i taught him how to do so and he is very happy about it. He usually send us money via western union and the charges are  really expensive but when he started using transfering funds to us it is very convenient and very fast also it is very hassle free!
