Going through a hard fork to exclude Bitmain and exclusive their own Obelisk miners is dumb.  First, it's probably illegal due to it being a monopoly and it is using anti-compete tactics.  It's kind of like if Microsoft changed their code so that Netscape wouldn't work as well in Windows vs Internet Explorer.  Oh, wait that was a real thing that happened and Microsoft was fined and restricted for years because of it. 

That said, nobody from the Government is going to bother to investigate this.  So, they can do it and get away with it.

But will it matter?  The guy with the lowest power cost will earn all the tokens, and the rest of the Obelisk owners will still operate at a loss. 

Further, Bitmain might just tweak their design to support whatever new algo that Sia comes up with.  The Sia team operate slowly.  By the time they announce a fork and what they are forking too, everyone will be adjusting their miners and tools to be ready for it.  If they want to bother.  The price of these tokens has been in the toilet lately anyway.

Maybe instead of concentrating their efforts on hardware miners, and forks, they work on making the application something that people actually want to use.

Payouts for March have been going out very slowly.  They will be followed by payouts for April.  It's not a money issue.  They wrote a new script and it has had bugs, such as multiple payouts to the same address, or payouts that were 0.  It SHOULD be a higher priority than it has been.  I don't know why it hasn't been given better attention.  But you will be paid.

Storj v2 (Current implementation) is going to be replaced with a new protocol Storj v3.   They are having a Townhall in early June where the public can ask questions of the team.   They will be sharing details about v3 during this time.

As for the guy who says he bought a 100,000 dollars in tokens and didn't receive your tokens.  You can send an email to support@storj.io regarding this transaction.  It would be best to show proof of your transaction such as the transaction id, and the wallet address you were expecting to receive the coins to.

Since this thread is mostly just new users trying to bump up their post count, I thought I would post some useless thoughts on the matter of who Satoshi might be without sounding all tin-foil-hatish.

Apparently, most of the people that worked with Satoshi are pretty confident he was one person.  His code was not written in a way that a team would have developed it.  And he used reverse polish notation which seems more like something someone older with a math background would use.  Save for the guy who comments on this post and says he uses it all the time in 2018.   Pedantic. 

Satoshi also said later in the Bitcoin project that Tor 0.2 alpha was coming out soon, and he would provide instructions on how to use it.  He may have followed along with the TOR development and had some ideas on how to integrate it with Bitcoin.  But I found it interesting that he knew how to use it before 0.2 alpha and was going to help people with it.

That got me to thinking.  Perhaps Satoshi was one of the TOR guys.  Maybe not one of the main guys, but an underling that worked on the math side.  At the time Tor was funded by DARPA and development was going on pretty much at the same time.  They have "some" similarities with the nodes, encryption, P2P concepts that Satoshi employed.  So do many other P2P tools, I realize and true, there is no blockchain with Tor.  So maybe not. 

But if we stretch our imagination here, I don't think this was the work of the entire TOR team at DARPA because Satoshi didn't seem really concerned about privacy so much as just trying to free us from the banking system.  Which makes me think he could have been one of the team members that was big into the math side of what was going on, but less on the privacy side.  I can imagine while sitting in meeting rooms while discussing the best way to communicate with TOR nodes and share P2P information while making it encrypted, that ideas can spring to mind on how to leverage similar concepts to do something different and outside the scope of the current project.  And Satoshi taught himself to do some coding and put together Bitcoin with the knowledge he had working on similar projects such as TOR.

As Satoshi eventually left the Bitcoin project with Gavin, he said had moved on to other things, and that the Bitcoin project was in good hands.  I think given that TOR was still early, his "other things" were exactly that.  TOR.  Again, as a team member.  Not the project lead or anything. 

That would also explain why the coins haven't been touched.  Whoever did it was on DARPA's dime at the time.  Whatever knowledge or tools being used were funded by them, and Satoshi probably didn't want anyone to trace it back to him and the TOR project.   Not to mention, there are a lot of hands in that pot.  The Government, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, as well as the TOR organization as it exists now, and the various members that rotated through it.   Whoever has the keys would probably not end up with the money, it would get owned by the Fed and a bunch of lawyers maybe.  It would also create some public static if it was found out that it was DARPA funded.  And/Or sanctioned by the Government to pay dissidents or spies, etc.  Whatever conspiracy theorists want to imagine.

We'll never really know unless Satoshi himself comes out and proves it.  But I do think it is interesting that these two projects were lining up at the same time Bitcoin and TOR and that Satoshi had a hand in one, and strong enough knowledge in the other to teach people how to use it at an early Alpha state.

The thing to understand is that "storage" isn't really a good business model.  A lot of competition fighting over pennies.   Where Storj will be different is in the distribution / bandwidth model.   Think of it like Bittorrent.  You upload a file and it is distributed in pieces to many farmer nodes.  When that data is requested, many nodes provide pieces simultaneously.   This makes the transfer very fast, in theory there is no upper limit if you have enough node distribution of your data.   

Bandwidth, for online storage, especially egress, is expensive.  It's very expensive when you move out of local region pricing and look at global pricing.  Storj is half the cost of the majors at local pricing and significantly lower than global.   

You can't think of it like glacial backup tape storage.  If you want to store data for a penny a gigabyte, there are answers out there for you.   Storj is about distributed bandwidth.   High availability.  Global availability. 

They are busy at Storj Labs making improvements to the protocol.  Expecting good things.  The company has ramped up staff and has teams of developers working on different aspects. 

There will be a townhall meeting where the public can ask questions soon, and there will be some reveals and discussion about the new improvements.  If you're curious, you should attend.  They'll be posted details about exact dates and such soon.

There is no mining of Storj.   You can rent hard drive space and earn some tokens from the Storj Labs team. 

SJCX was the old Bitcoin based token, but due to high fees and a desire to work with smart contracts, Storj Labs transitioned to the STORJ token.   

In terms of investing for equity in the company, that is not currently an option, though at some point the plan is likely to sell shares.  Since they had a Pre-Series A run at BNKtoTheFuture some time ago.  But right now, nothing of the sort is going on.

Storj Labs is currently working on major improvements to the protocol as well as the payout scheme.  Details are updated in their blog posts.

I dunno who he is, but I just want to thank him.  I appreciate the work he did and the results are self explanatory.  I'm glad to be a part of it.

My best answer to this is that for the storage of data, you might make $25 per TB or you might get $5 per TB.   

The way to make money is on egress.  The data that is downloaded from your node.  The more a renter pulls on your data, the more you will make.  Some people have over 10TB of data and made $300-$500.   However, you can't control how much is pulled off your data.  That is just up to the renter to decide what he wants to do with it. 

So on one hand, you could make a little bit of money storing data, but if you can deliver that data you can make a lot more money.  Eventually, being paid to hold the data will become small, so most farmers will make their money on egress.  This is where the money is.

No.  There was a presale where they earned 15 million.  The other 15 million was part of the public token sale.

None of this money is locked up.

The primary difference is that SJCX is on the Counterparty which is on the Bitcoin block chain.  Bitcoin transaction volume is high, so Counterparty transactions are slow.

STORJ will be on the Ethereum block chain, which will make transactions faster, and offer the ability to use smart contracts.
