1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Texts/"passwords" as private keys source and transactions on: July 10, 2023, 08:18:04 AM
Can you please try explaining again? For example this part:
Quote
export transactions, mess around with this export to get back commonly used words/texts
How do you mess with transactions? There is not much text within a bitcoin transaction.

That's not about a 'text' itself. You may use transaction or block hash as a private key (or as a text for sha256).
But of course do not expect anything.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Private key of BTC wallet on: July 07, 2023, 09:06:50 AM
If you have 9 characters only, we may say it is undoable.
If it was a paper wallet, chances could be increased by (even partial) QR code etc, but knowing only 1/5 of the private key makes problem unsolvable.
3  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: SPV (desktop) wallet which lets me verify blocks myself on: June 30, 2023, 02:36:13 PM
If you have those types of skills I assume you're skilled enough to set up a Linux machine with a full core node and your own SPV server. (...)

Exactly. And having your own Electrum server you may use it not only with electrum, but also with Blue Wallet on your mobile, Trezor Suite etc.

By the way, how it would work, you expect to have a wallet connected to the node which keeps only blocks which contain data about your address? How about incoming transactions, do not you want to keep blocks which confirms validity of your inputs? How about the current state, if you want to create outgoing transaction you plan to keep the block and then download/ignore blocks which does not have information important for you?
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mempool.Space Production Server on: June 30, 2023, 02:24:49 PM
I know mempool.space looks nice, but may I ask why did you decide to use that server and not btc-rpc-explorer (https://github.com/janoside/btc-rpc-explorer)?
Do you plan to expose your server to the world or is it purely for private use?
5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The FinderOuter, a bitcoin recovery tool (v0.18.0 2023-06-23) on: June 28, 2023, 01:04:44 PM
It becomes a really huge machine! Do you have any plans for the next release(s)?

Saving progress and restoring partial search?
Using a range in derivation path?

I was briefly comparing what you have with features of 'lostword' and looks like you have (almost) all Smiley
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Going to build a new node. on: June 28, 2023, 12:54:48 PM
I will clone the ssd to the second ssd and to a 4gb western digital hdd.

Did you just reinvent RAID?
7  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: A new electrs is coming on: June 28, 2023, 12:53:40 PM
https://github.com/romanz/electrs/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES.md#0100-rc1-jun-21-2023

Does not look like much, just a continuing update.
Might be some things that are not commented on for the 0.9.14 -> 0.10.0 change or perhaps going to Rust 2021

Looks like the main reason for change in version number was Rust and rocksbd libs update. The same was with 0.9.0rc1 (Update RocksDB to 6.11.4).

By the way I am curious what else we may expect in electrum server, I guess most of the work could be dedicated to the performance improvements only.
8  Bitcoin / Electrum / A new electrs is coming on: June 27, 2023, 01:07:39 PM
I have just realized a new version of Electrs has been published (https://github.com/romanz/electrs/releases/tag/v0.10.0-rc.1)

It is just a RC1 so probably we will have to wait a bit longer for the final release, but it is good project is evolving. I am curious what we may expect in v 0.10, as it is no longer 0.9 patch.
Anyone already gave it a chance and installed a new server?
9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: June 24, 2023, 05:36:57 PM
I've seen mixers for altcoins in the past, but can't tell you if they're reliable.

There are plenty!!! ... but all of them are scams.

Interesting. I wonder what is ROI, daily/weekly volume etc in case of BTC mixers and how it is related to the market cap. Entry threshold? Do these numbers make altcoins mixers unprofitable or there is just no need for them? BCH has around only 0.5% of BTC market capitalization, but is it the answer?
10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: June 24, 2023, 12:00:14 PM
I know it is probably not the best topic for my question, but I did not find a better one and I do not want to create a new one.

Just out of curiosity:
Are there any mixers for other coins than Bitcoin, for example BCH? How it would work with ETH?

I am not sure what you wanted to show, but it completely makes no sense for me. Could you explain step by step?

I am a new user of this forum. However, before registering, I have been reading various posts related to technical issues for a long time. I'm very curious if anyone has managed to find a collision in RIPEMD160 on Bitcoin addresses. Are there any known collision data with public keys, and if possible, with private keys as well?

Some scientific progress has been made (https://eprint.iacr.org/2023/285) but it is still very far from a simple every-day use. In other words - RIPEMD160 is still secure.
12  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The paranoid user's security guide for using Electrum safely. on: June 22, 2023, 08:51:01 AM
is it unsafe if I used Windows 7?
Yes because the security patch of Windows 7 is outdated and ended support by Microsoft 3 years ago and Electrum's latest version no longer supports Windows 7 since the release of version 4.2.0.

That's a good point. There is a similar problem with smartphones, especially android ones, where we have many producers and many OS versions, distributed by phone producer. Sooner or later they stop publishing a new OS updates, then users should think twice if still want to use banking app etc. on not-updated phone.
13  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Generating offline seed Electrum on: June 22, 2023, 08:44:37 AM
I do not recall any Electrum issues related to seed generation, so if you really want, you may use older version of the program. At the end all is about randomness and the result comes from Windows, not from Electrum itself.

Any tips for generating seed offline without buying a new machine ?

Buy hardware wallet. Cheaper than a new machine and handy.
14  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Create a seed from a selection of words on: June 15, 2023, 07:53:04 PM

Background of my question is simply that I want to create a wallet that is as secure as possible but where also the address looks cool as generated by vanitygen.
If I wanted to create a wallet here now, how could I influence the entropy?
https://github.com/adrijano/Bitcoin-wallet-cracker

So, you want to have a seed which produces “nice” address for a given derivation path.
Testing addresses on the path is quite “expensive” operation, so the whole process will be much slower (less efficient) than “normal” vanitygen.
But I understand your doubts, you consider testing different seeds or one seed and different passwords.
15  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Create a seed from a selection of words on: June 15, 2023, 06:59:10 PM
What exactly do these paths mean:
m/84'/0
m/44'/60
m/44'/0'
m/84'/0

So the question is which BIP fits to which path and which path did you use in the beginning?

I think you will find answer for that question if you look at the page: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

After you generate/paste seed, you may check addresses generated by different derivation paths.
In general, we may say we have: "m/[BIP]/[COIN]/["Account"]/address"

Using your example, m/44'/60 will produce addresses for Ethereum (see the list: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md)
16  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: C# or C/C++ code to convert Bitcoin brainwallet to public address on: June 14, 2023, 11:24:27 AM
I'm just curious why I can't define a 256-bit or x-bit data type in C.
You can do that in any language by constructing something (ie. struct in c#) in that language that consists of multiple instances of primitive types that store the bits.
(...)
Ignoring the fixed length and the specialization of the implementation, the above code is essentially what the Biginteger class in dotnet (C#) does.

It is a bit complicated (https://stackoverflow.com/a/54815033) bit you may also use 128 bit type. Of course in terms of performance many depends on the CPU architecture and not always using 64 bit type could be faster than using 32 bit type - could be opposite if machine is 32bit.

And of course BigInteger could be the solution, in c# or java.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Best practices installing Bitcoind on a Linux Server (Debian 11) on: June 12, 2023, 09:05:59 AM
In fact, I don't know exactly what a full node is.
A full node starts by downloading ~500 GB. After that, it's ~2 GB per week.

And in case OP wants to use 'txindex' (I assume he would prefer to have it, as he plans "to query the balance of a specific address"*), then there are extra 50G.

* - it will be much easier installing additional software for that, like https://github.com/janoside/btc-rpc-explorer

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Best practices installing Bitcoind on a Linux Server (Debian 11) on: June 10, 2023, 09:25:14 PM
Take a look at:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5367296.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5368219.0
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Setting_up_a_Tor_hidden_service

Bitcoin core installation is not difficult, there are just a few parameters you may want to modify, so it is not very complicated. Having experience like you said, it will be easy.

Well it reacts to it but not very positively lately. Bounce in 2021 was insane and even the recovery pump, but after that price has pretty much died. I am not saying it wouldn't recover explosively when bitcoin finally moons but before that it needs to discover the bottom, It might even go ATL for all i know so i am not touching it yet.

Is there any other reason to buy FUN except freebitco bonuses? In other words - I do not think it has any value for traders (especially the price is quite stable). And even if you are freebitco gambler usually you just buy it once in the amount you find reasonable (depending which premium level you target) and forget.

Check project "FinderOuter" (https://github.com/Coding-Enthusiast/FinderOuter)
I am not sure if it has exact functionality you mentioned, but I am 99% sure you will find there all the blocks you need (sha256, pubkey generation, base58 conversion etc).
