681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Electrum Server Privacy Leaks on: August 12, 2022, 02:12:37 PM
And given how trivial it is to run an Electrum server, no reason not to just spin up your own one.

Preferably with static public ip (or dyndns/no-ip kind of service) to be able to use it on smartphone - mobile electrum and blue wallet allow setting custom electrum servers - or just outside home. Or install all on own laptop, but then you need a really big disk and each time after you disconnects you must later wait some time for resync.
I do not know how about Ledger software, but Trezor Suite allows you to connect to your own node too.

683  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum New UX/UI. on: August 12, 2022, 09:41:17 AM
I want to discuss the topic of the new design for Electrum Wallet.
I think this design is outdated.

I do not have any opinion about Desktop UI, as for me it is fine. But android application looks like from previous era - it is just ugly. Fresh look would make it much more popular I think. I appreciate features which are there, but it is really hard to say it is user-friendly. Most people would like to keep it simple, like in (for example) Blue Wallet.
684  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are border wallets a modification of brain wallet? on: August 12, 2022, 08:05:04 AM
2. The pattern is not random, so if an attacker gains access to the grid, it will much easier to brute force the phrase because there is a limited number of patterns that people will memorize. And just like passwords, some patterns will be used more than others. But, I would still be harder to crack than a brain wallet because it could be more complex.

I see that as a one of main problems. Even if you have your favorite pattern, it means nothing without personal grid. Simpler would be to use the same order of words and maybe different dimensions of grid, but then I may imagine we would have sooner or later collisions - people would generate the same pattern (words). But it would be easier to remember grid dimensions and pattern than keep words in given order.
The problem with that proposal would be that we do not know how to read words - in which order. Natural order would mean that words are always in alphabetic order, and it is a serious weakness.

There will be new drivers, new money coming to F1. Maybe not from Russia (at least for some time), but there are always dozens of drivers who want to take his seat. And I am sure that Mercedes is looking for a new driver to be Russel's partner - they have their "academy" so they know who could be the candidate.
Where did that come from? Mercedes looking for a new driver? I don't think Toto has said anything about that and Lewis is still the driver that they would want to have.

It is not about talking about it loudly. We all know that managing team requires to think (maybe even focus on it) about future, not here-and-now. It was always strange for me that transfers were announced almost in the middle of season, it was weird to "I do my best here, even if I already signed contract to work for my current-opponent".
The same with car - season starts so we should think about building car for the next season, of course no team builds car in a few winter weeks.
That's why I am pretty sure they have drivers they observe, maybe from F2, maybe even from other leagues. At the end it is not very different than situation in football - you have 10000 boys kicking the ball, some of them will join sport club in their district, maybe some of them will be talented more than others, some will work harder than others, some will find better manager than others... maybe 1 will make a (inter)national career.
686  Economy / Gambling / Re: Poker tournaments why tournaments in other games on: August 12, 2022, 07:24:35 AM
All the other games in casinos are based on luck I cannot imagine a tournament where luck will play a major factor in the tournament it just got to be poker because if you want to play poker against another player, you're battling on who has the better skills in determining each other card and hiding your card from your opponent, that is why we have what we call a poker face a strategy used by players to hide their emotion, having a poker face for a long period of time is already a skill.

That's not really the case when we talk about online poker sites...
I think there is one more reason why tournaments are popular (maybe for some group of people even more than cash games) - they last longer! With cash game (not even talking about other casino games, like roulette etc), you may be out very soon, with tournament (especially on big tables, as on 6 person table it goes pretty fast too) you may wait longer for your "lucky hand".

I would like to see possibility to use FUN as a "currency" on freebitco - for betting, multiply etc, exactly like it is possible with sats. Is there any particular reason not to implement it?
Now freebitco is just an 'exchange' for FUN, you may buy, sell, lock... Not a real use.
Same with me here.I get some little amount of them everyday from interest and WoF daily spins so it would be nice if we could get real usage of them at the Freebitco.in website.I would prefer to spend the FUN tokens that I earn daily rather than to play with satoshis like we can, also betting on the events to increase the number of FUN if we win it would be a huge add on for us the users,we can bet a lot of FUN tokens and get also more FUN compared to the satoshis because of the much lower value of the FUN tokens.

Great that I am not the only one. So what now? Let's sign the petition ;-)
The most probably they will reject it saying that "you may always sell tokens and play with sats".
The other idea would be to simplify system a little, as we have now sats, FUN tokens and RPs. Sounds like one too much. I understand RPs, as a kind of "bonus reward", for players, but then FUN are not needed at all. I would imagine that instead of holding FUNs for benefits like WOFs, they may do the same with RPs (now you may only spend RPs or convert them to sats).
688  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: August 11, 2022, 01:59:13 PM
I don't like the idea of Lewis retiring. Imagine him being a seven-time world champion, and I would want him to have more. Because imagine, he will overtake Michael Schumacher with the times he has been the champion, and he will be the G.O.A.T of F1. He still has a lot of fuel left to win a championship. Maybe not now, but we will see. I hope he does his best, though.

I am pretty sure there are many people who wish completely opposite - not the break records and keep it for other driver (or at least keep the legend alive). Many people were tired with "Hamilton's era" (Mercedes cars were the fastest, penalties were not so strong as for other drivers etc.), and at the end it is kind of show business, people want to see show, people want entertainment. Change of rules, new cars - and Hamilton is not it top 3.
There will be new drivers, new money coming to F1. Maybe not from Russia (at least for some time), but there are always dozens of drivers who want to take his seat. And I am sure that Mercedes is looking for a new driver to be Russel's partner - they have their "academy" so they know who could be the candidate.
689  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Weird Bitcoin wallets on: August 11, 2022, 01:22:31 PM

Border Wallets project is aimed at people who:
Quote
- have difficulty/concerns with securely caching physical seed backups (evil maid attack)
- want to memorise their seed words but struggle to do so
- want to carry their seed words with them at all times

So, at the end what you have is generated grid (kind of paper wallet?) on which you "paint" your seed (something like other project - forgive me, I do not remember now the author - which builds private key using grid where user switch on/off some cells). I wonder how they generate the last word, as there could be several words which build the correct seed (with checksum). If for example they select always "the first valid one", it is already a simplification.

It's not everything but one of most important things. First a token should be created by valid reasons that make their utility at least in Protocol, Whitepaper. Later, if a team can successfully build utility for that token, it is a success. The last phase is getting acceptance, adoption for that token beyond the project ecosystem. FUN token is spreading and it will have better adoption.

I would like to see possibility to use FUN as a "currency" on freebitco - for betting, multiply etc, exactly like it is possible with sats. Is there any particular reason not to implement it?
Now freebitco is just an 'exchange' for FUN, you may buy, sell, lock... Not a real use.
691  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BACK ONLINE] Bitcoin block data (665 GB): inputs, outputs and transactions on: August 11, 2022, 12:17:38 PM
Update: the server is currenly offline for an upgrade Cheesy With more disk space, I can add Ethereum data from Blockchair (which I have locally already), and later Dogecoin data too.

Hi, what's the state of ETH addresses dump? Is it uploaded already?

Problem:
There's a lot of data, and I don't do databases. I was actually running out of disk space to sort the data, so this upgrade came at the right time.

Do you want to talk about doing it in DB?
692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: August 11, 2022, 08:28:44 AM
This isn't to say that Hamilton is at 100%, he is definitely not anymore, he is losing his edge and I think he will retire in a year or two, because he wouldn't want to be on a bad team like Vettel or Alonso did, hence he wouldn't just move back to Williams and enjoy, he will straight up retire.

If he would like to quit "properly", he should quit in 1-2 years, leaving Mercedes. It will be very tempting to race "one more last season" but then the most probably it would be much weaker team and he would regularly finish in the second half. I do not think Red Bull or Ferrari would take him, so he will end in any other team, like in happened to Kimi. But going to Williams... would be funny.
693  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: NodeWatcher - simple mempool watcher on: August 10, 2022, 07:36:04 PM
Thanks for your nice words. I'm glad there are people who can make good use of it.

So am wondering if it is possible to let the user customize it according to his preferences or use mempool stats to determine the best fee rate for a fast transaction. In most cases, users will need the transaction to get confirmed asap.

Currently there is no configuration for that. Fee is calculated as a difference between input and output, maybe it is stupid what I do (I needed any working solution), but I prepare transaction, I check it's length and I subtract length from amount. Electrum showed fee 1.5 for signed transaction prepared that way, so it is not so bad. Of course I may think about any parameter.

Also, does the tool allow monitoring multiple addresses?
Yes, all is based on list of WIFs (each in new line). With uncompressed/compressed WIF situation is clear, but not to make mess with WIF prefix like it is in case of electrum (no prefix - legacy compressed 1.., different prefixes for bc1..., 3... etc.), I add to pool of known each time all 4 types.

And now i have a technical question... What would happen if you and other user are running the program at the same time with the same private keys but sending to different address? My prediction is a double spend...

mynonce already answered, normally the first wins, if somehow it happen that two transactions will be in mempool miner usually takes the one with bigger fee. And that way we come back to the previous question...
694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: August 10, 2022, 07:00:17 AM
It should be noted that Vettel is 35 years old.  This is the age when most riders begin an irreversible process of slowing down reactions, like all people in general.  Worthy to perform in the race becomes difficult, if not impossible.
Therefore, I always treat with understanding and a little sadness when great racers leave in the past.  If I'm not mistaken, Vettel was the champion in 2011-12, 13? but 10 years have already passed.

You cannot fight with aging. That's why it was really interesting what happened to Robert Kubica, who came back to F1 after his accident. Williams took a driver in his thirties, his dream came true, but there were no good results (yes, Williams car was far from ideal). Now he is in Alfa Romeo as a 3rd driver, but as driving is his way of life, he is involved in other racing series too. By the way, in 2018 Kubica's manager was Rosberg, who found a new way of life after retirement form F1.
What is important is tendency to risk or need for adrenaline. Belgian former cyclist, World Champion from 2005, Tom Boonen finished his career in 2017, at the same year he passed tests for racing license and started to race, initially in VW Fun Cup (if you do not know it, google it! really enjoying!). And he had a really serious dangerous crash in 2019.
695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: August 09, 2022, 08:20:19 AM
I read so many times in footbal players for example, when they comes to retirement, they enjoy the family life but only for a year or maybe two, but they are so used to the sport life and they keep steaking to a kind of life that no longer exist, so a lot of them comes back from retirement or they come DT, reporter, journalist, etc.

You are right, there are many examples of former sportsmen who did "come back", usually it was a bad decision. Ali, Jordan, etc. No man ever steps in the same river twice.
Nico Rosberg found his way, I really appreciate he found there are other professions that just a car driver.

Finally I have watched Vettel's 4 min-long farewell video, could be seen on his instagram and page https://sebastianvettel.de/en/start/
Nice one, but it fact it is 4 minutes about nothing - typical statement "I want to spend more time with my family". Let's see what he will do next. Finally, sooner or later almost everyone goes to Dakar race.

I remember I was on F1 Spa race in 2019, the race was won by Leclerc - it was his first win! Before the race I bought a red Ferrari/Vettel t-shirt, for some time I was not sure which one to buy, Vettel or Leclerc. If I had known Leclerc win, it would have chosen his t-shirt, but Vettel's one just looked better ;-)
698  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Collection of 18.509 found and used Brainwallets on: August 08, 2022, 07:56:15 AM
How is someone supposed to remember the exact number of hashing rounds? I think in both the WarpWallet and your proposed ~1.2 million rounds of hashing implementations, you will need to either document the rounds of hashing,  or rely on a third party to help calculate the private key, and I don't think this meets the definition of a brain wallet.

Talking about definition - there is no strict definition. The idea is that you "remember" how to produce private key. Somehow (I do not know why and how) single iteration of sha256 became "a standard". You may use other hash algorithm (eth & keccak), you may use other number of iterations, you may use any other way you want - as long as you remember what to do, it could be still a "brain wallet" (the question is if you remember your 12/24 words seed, is it brain wallet or not, theoretically yes).
The more additional steps you use or need to perform, it complicates thing and make it easier to forget. About number of iterations - you may use date, like I proposed few posts ago. Then you may know that number of possible iterations was for example between 20210101 and 20221231. But then we go to another point - are you able to restore your private key quickly? With single iteration of sha256 - probably yes. With more complicated scenarios - you will probably need your own dedicated program.
Of course we may think about many many possible ways to "remember" private key. Even the ways which allows you to restore that using just a piece of paper and pencil - for example, you take your name, dog's name, email address, phone number etc, take letters as a numbers (a=1, b=2, whatever) and then use modulo 16 to produce hex string. Is it possible? yes. The question is if it is safe - I would say it is probably safer than typical sha256 brainwallet from common phrase, because it is very custom method and there is no automated attack for that (yet).
699  Bitcoin / Project Development / NodeWatcher - simple mempool watcher on: August 07, 2022, 06:34:46 PM
Hello

Having a free afternoon I have prepared a very simple mempool watcher, which uses RPC connection to (local) node, checks transactions and if there is any transaction with output to known address, it prepares a transaction which moves amount to destination address.
The idea was to have some "automatic" transfers when there is payment to given address(es). For example you have tool which generates addresses from seed (for your clients) and after payment you move funds to one single address. Currently it is really very simple app, maybe I will extend it in the future - for example retrieve private keys from seed (now it expects list of WIFs).
It connects to node using provided path (http://user:pass@host:port/) or path to .cookie file (then connects to 127.0.0.1:8332).
If there is any interest in that kind of projects, I will add new features, for now it is as it is. It was more like an exercise for me, as I did not work with RPC /remote connection/ never before.

That is fully fine by me, I am doing that and I think almost anyone would do that. Only person that can answer this is thequin, but is there even a single person who would get an iphone from here using their reward points? And if so, when was the last time someone did that? I believe people would encash it loong before they have enough reward points for that, and if there is any person who would get iphone when they reach there, I am 99.999999% sure that they didn't know they could have turned that into bitcoin.

Long story short, I agree that to most people like me, actually to all people here, reward points are just satoshis waiting to be collected.

I think so. They even do not update rewards to be more attractive, and as price of hardware goes down (phone, hardware wallet etc), they do not keep the real correlation with RPs "price".
Now I wonder what the BTC price should be to change again base WOF reward (and WOF price in RPs). We have 50 for a quite long period of time.
