101  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your worst dates on: June 11, 2014, 05:14:49 AM
I have a severe shellfish allergy. I was on a date and ordered a butternut squash soup without realizing that the restaurant was also serving lobster bisque. Somehow a piece of lobster ended up in my soup. I ate it without realizing it and a bit later vomited in my date's lap on the way from the restaurant to a theater. I then went into shock and passed out. She managed to stop the car safely and called 911. I woke up in the hospital an hour later with a tube down my throat and my parents sitting beside my bed. My date was with them and still covered with my dinner. They gave her a ride home and 2 years later I married the girl I vomited on so it turned out fairly well. Needless to say she doesn't let me forget my epinephrin injector when we go anywhere.
You know you chose right when that happens. Needless to say, it is still way too early for me.

As for my worst date, it was definitely at the movies, where we really didn't even look at each other once during the entire 2 hours. Yeah, quite awkward afterwards.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who are the bitcoin Dinosaurs? on: June 11, 2014, 05:12:28 AM
Dinosaurs are extinct and many of the 'old-time' Bitcoin users are still around, so I don't understand the comparison.
He is probably referred to their ability as predators and chances of survival.

That is, of course, disregarding the fact that they are not around anymore.
103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I buy a USB miner? I get free electricity... on: June 11, 2014, 05:10:33 AM
if you have a free electricity then i wouldnt you buy something like s1 unit? this is much profitable to you but somehow could be a very big problem to your parents another option is you can give atleast 1/4 part of your money to your parents for running your equipment to your home
In that case, electricity wouldn't be free either, since he is directly paying his parents in response to his use of energy in the house. There's just no way.
104  Other / Off-topic / Re: PC Gaming Thread on: June 11, 2014, 05:06:58 AM
Oblivion is great, much better than Skyrim imo. Few games I've enjoyed as much as it.

+1, I bought Skyrim when it came out and played 80 hours. Haven't picked it up since then. Meanwhile, I played through oblivion for 150 hours, then my hard drive died so I lost everything...and I came back and started a new character. I just love the atmosphere and the quests in oblivion, I think those two things are so superior to Skyrim. Currently trying to get all the mods up to make Oblivion look good before I play again.
After playing Skyrim the graphics are a let down. But the gameplay and story - best one around. Smiley

That's why I want to do in a step by step fashion: Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. That way the graphics will only get better and won't take away from the experience at all.

I'm currently playing the Witcher 1 now and at some point I'll do The Witcher 2 and 3 in that order as well. I think it's the best way.
I have the Witcher, never came around to play it, is it any good?

Witcher games are among the bests computer RPG for adult recipients available. Every RPG fan should test it. All Witchers are on sale sometimes and I bought them both for like 6 dollars with bitcoins recently.

Agreed ! Witcher 3 is coming out in about 8 months, so if you didn't play previous ones now is time to play them Smiley
I'm planning to get them. However, is there too much grinding? That's one of the things I hate about some RPGs.
105  Other / Off-topic / Re: bitcoin and google wallet on: June 11, 2014, 05:02:09 AM
no, noting about applied cryptology ... it's about a shit paper that one googler sent to me about "Graham's law" and that bicoin violates it like shit paper and at the time he just talk and talk about google wallet ... I trying to find it on my gmail account but .... I bet I will not find it soon ... I guess I have it on my pendrives though ...

To be honest I never gave Grahams law any credibility at all. Seemed too far fetched.
I can't seem to quite understand it, even though I already gave it a look in Wikipedia. Huh
Paraphrasing would be great.

That's not free electricity. Either way, you're not going to reach an ROI at any time, really. Better spend your money elsewhere.
107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core vs. blockchain.info & other online wallets on: June 11, 2014, 04:57:42 AM

Based on the pictures, i wonder why paper wallet has less security than other cold storage devices ?

• Because paper and ink can degradation over time. Is not fire proof and water proof.

• And usually private key on paper is written in plain cleartext (not encrypted). Anyone read this private key can stole the coins.

To clarify my previous posts, paper wallets usually have a digital, offline backup. Both copies are usually encrypted with a passphrase.
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Changing Bitcoin into PoS(Piece of Stake) on: June 11, 2014, 04:56:19 AM
Is PoS based directly on wealth? I'm not sure of how it works and would appreciate a link related to this.

Proof of Stake means that the greater "stake" a person has (i.e. the greater number of coins), the greater chance of forging the next block and reaping the transaction fees.  There are 1 billion NXT and if you own one, you have one chance in one billion to forge the next block.  It's not exactly done like that but the result is about the same.  Also, if you have a large stake and try to force a fork by not forging a block when you get elected to do so, your forging power drops to zero temporarily which allows others to pickup the slack.  Again, I'm a novice at the exact mechanisms of NXT forging.

To address the possibility of "living off the interest" of your fortune I say…. it's a free country.  Eventually you will die and pass your coins to your heirs and they will spend them, distributing that wealth to the rest of society.  The same thing happens in any capitalist society based on morality.  (no forced distribution of wealth)  Example:  The Kennedys and the Vanderbuilts and the Rockefellers no longer have an amassed fortune.  It has been spent by their heirs and distributed morally (not by force) to society.

Thanks for your explanation. So, essentially, the wealthier you are, the better the chances of becoming even wealthier?
109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core vs. blockchain.info & other online wallets on: June 11, 2014, 03:48:48 AM
Thanks all, decided I'll use blockchain.info for my "hot" wallet and use the Bitcoin Core client to store large amounts of coin with a backup.
I encourage you to choose a paper wallet instead of Bitcoin-Qt. It is safer and not vulnerable to keyloggers/viruses.

Haha, that was great. I especially like the German Plan, and the Mexican one is completely true. I remember seeing this somewhere before, but I can't recall exactly where.
111  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] - Blockchain on a USB stick on: June 11, 2014, 02:37:39 AM
Heck I would buy these for the USBs in bulk. $3 for each subsequent USB?

Sounds like I may have read something wrong.
112  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core vs. blockchain.info & other online wallets on: June 11, 2014, 02:32:25 AM
I like blockchain.info as a hot wallet. For cold storage purposes I've wandered into the world of paper wallets. Online wallets are great for just small amounts.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to receive coins while the wallet isn't synced? on: June 11, 2014, 02:31:21 AM
You are right in all of these points. While your coins won't show up until you're synced, you will still successfully receive them. You can also back up the wallet without the client even being synced at all and if you load it up somewhere else, the coins will be there.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who are the bitcoin Dinosaurs? on: June 11, 2014, 02:27:18 AM
Satoshi Nakamoto. More a Godzilla than a Dinousar.

godzilla never lived and breathed. pure fantasy story

but i know what your hinting. a myth much like satoshi today, no one actually seen him in real life, living and breathing

but i think under that presumption. then satoshi would be the lock ness monster. a myth, but has a bases that he could have been real in the past. (a dinosaur that actually lived and breathed)

You're looking too deep into it, aren't you? Anyway, definitely Satoshi and I would definitely argue that we are part of these dinosaurs.
115  Economy / Speculation / Re: We're not going anywhere, until the 51% question is answered on: June 11, 2014, 01:59:33 AM
"We're not going anywhere..." until the 51% question stops being asked. Seriously, it can't be that hard to understand.
116  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: June 11, 2014, 01:57:44 AM
Although you decide what to do to your body, I do advise just staying away from smoking as in don't even try it. I haven't and feel no need to. No more problems than we need.
117  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: June 11, 2014, 01:34:13 AM
I suppose that would depend on the definition of virtue which is very subjective, is it not?
What is the definition?

I take it that you have never heard of the Wiktionary project?
No never, what is it?
It contains many words and their definitions. The real question is, however, what is it not?

The man with 1 billion bitcoin

It was Wednesday afternoon and bitcoin just rose to $1 when the man decided to take a walk to the park. There he found a strange man who introduced himself as Satoshi. They talked for a while and Satoshi mentioned to have invented a new payment system called "Bitcoin". The man did not pay much attention to it, but told Satoshi that he would help him make "Bitcoin" famous. The man took the offer as just a hobby. They expected nothing mainstream to come out of it. The man didn't even much believe in Bitcoin. Satoshi had told the man the Bitcoins he gave him were only worth $1 each. But the man knew a promise is still a promise.

[Just a proposed deletion, since that doesn't make any sense at all in the context of the story. Satoshi never gave anything to the man.]

Who profited more from the convention? Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft? Who were you most excited for pre-conferences? Who were you disappointed by or surprised by?

Personally, I was quite happy about GTA V finally coming to PC. I am looking forward to the modding community coming up with great ideas.
