1041  Other / Meta / Can we have rel=nofollow for offsite links to deter backlink spam? on: July 28, 2014, 03:12:42 PM
Exactly what the title says. There was a recent case where someone was spamming backlinks to his domains, not to mention the innumerable cases of bots posting gibberish posts with many links. Adding rel=nofollow would greatly deter those spammers.

1043  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: DIY high quality entropy with low cost on: July 23, 2014, 06:49:46 PM
I'd like to minimize the number of cards. It could make a difference if more than a few high quality keys is needed.
A deck of cards has 52 cards, so you are saving... 9 cards. Is all that hassle worth it to make the deck a few mm thinner and a few grams lighter?

Totally different file from mine. Here's my virustotal results:

There's a very good chance a virus replaced a few executable files on your computer with the virus to reinstall itself.
No, it's because each uninstaller is custom generated at install time with install info to aid in uninstallation. That's why the hashes don't match. Mine uninstall.exe from a clean machine with verified digital signatures is: E2B89C3164C1A38F82BD613623010FFDE6E48FE7
1046  Other / Meta / Re: remove limits from bitcointalk.org account on: July 21, 2014, 12:52:30 AM
I would need some tips to get this done as well.

I have been actively posting in this forum, and still the activity doesnt seem to change.

Is there a guidebook, which i can take a look at for this?
yes, it's in the meta forum (search for it)

1048  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about moving Wallet Block chain info on: July 20, 2014, 04:21:04 AM
you can do it on mac without using the -datadir option by using a symbolic link. in a terminal, type in:
Code:
ln -s ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/ /new/location
then run bitcoin as normal.
1049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoind on Linux firewall 'ipfire'? on: July 19, 2014, 10:32:17 PM
why can't you use the precomplied linux binaries?
1050  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin uninstall.exe Virus on: July 19, 2014, 10:17:38 PM
I also seem to be having a similar problem. I got reformatted my drive and, while downloading the bootstrap.dat, I got this... but like I said, it was just recently formatted, so I doubt something infected me that quick. Just a false positive.... right? Right........  Huh
Oh and I'm a big nub, so how do I check my md5sum?  Cheesy

password is generated server-side. 0/10

edit:
the passwords are also sent to the server to generate the address/private keys.

Do not use!
1052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How safe is an Encrypted Bitcoin core wallet with a strong password? on: July 19, 2014, 04:08:50 AM
Not much, Windows is known to have a lot of vulnerabilities, since you are exposed to the internet, you might get a malware. Installing Linux on an offline computer would be significantly safer.
windows does have vulnerabilities, but they're not so bad to the point that connecting a reasonably up-to-date windows machine to the internet will get you infected.
1053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How safe is an Encrypted Bitcoin core wallet with a strong password? on: July 18, 2014, 06:56:35 PM
i mean encrypting wallet with a very strong password and doing this in a freshly installed windows pc.

That will take care of keyloggers right!

Now tell me how safe is such an encrypted wallet
[...]
A fresh Windows will most likely be not fully updated, but unless you use something old (e.g. WinXP without Service packs) you should be fine. Its also unlikely that you "just get a keylogger" as long as you are carefull. Carefull as in: dont download something from shady sources, dont download any new alt coin wallet just because, etc. pp.
more importantly, make sure your operating system install disk is clean. if you're downloading pirated windows, make sure you check the .iso's checksum against the ones published by microsoft.
1054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to make Bitcoind to run with more than 1 CPU on: July 18, 2014, 05:23:17 PM
is there a reason why you need to keep all those addresses? why can't you prune (or at least move to another wallet) addresses that haven't been used for 60 days?
1055  Other / Meta / Re: New Marketplace Sub Forum (Domains) on: July 18, 2014, 02:07:12 AM
Agreed, there are 20 domain posts on the first page of the Auctions subforum.
that's because sellers create one topic for each domain to maximize exposure.

1057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to make Bitcoind to run with more than 1 CPU on: July 17, 2014, 07:57:03 PM
It's not a easy task to make a program multi-threaded. The only computationally intensive thing that is multi-threaded right now is script verification for blocks.
1058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction was confirmed, then unconfirmed on blockchain.info on: July 17, 2014, 04:07:36 AM
When did this happen? Do you have a txid?

sorry, where is the TXid found?
it doesn't matter. see dannyhamilton's response above.
1059  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: MSDN Accounts|Invites|Keys|Warranty|MM|PP|BTC FREE VOUCH COPY on: July 16, 2014, 04:00:43 AM
I received a vouch MSDN invite from msleader.

His invites really do work and he was reasonably prompt and the process was very simple. The only thing I needed to provide was a email, name (can be fake), and phone number (can be fake).  I was able to download and get product keys for various microsoft products in minutes after he sent the email. There were some additional benefits in addition to the free software, which was a nice surprise. Those were: windows azure credits ($150/month for a year), office 365 subscription (length was not mentioned, but probably 1 year), windows and windows phone developer accounts (used for publishing modern apps to the windows marketplace). The product keys very handy for activating Microsoft products without resorting to loaders or kms servers and the azure credits can even replace your existing VPS provider. I should note here that the keys are not to be used in a production environment, so don't use them in businesses but using them at home is fine.

Am I reputable enough for a vouch copy? If so, I would like one.
