I had been suggesting a few weeks back, that we need to keep an eye on the average weight necessary to stake, and that the smaller inputs would eventually become "too lightweight to ever stake". I see that some people have dropped the age on their small inputs and pulled the trigger to combine them into larger inputs.
How's staking performance for everyone else?

I'm sure this could be extracted from the blockchain. Personally, with blocks between 1000 and 2500, my staking age is all over the place, into the 4x days for the oldest ones. I've got half a dozen blocks waiting at 5x days old...

Code:
get_bulk_payments(json_encode(array('min_block_height'=>399206)));

When can we expect this function to work with only min_block_height parameter in the pre-built libraries?

That's not really on our radar; get_bulk_payments is for scanning payment IDs you already know. A general scan of the wallet would be using the incoming_transfers call.

get_bulk_payments does give information like block height/payment id for the incoming tx (which you want to know if you want to wait for N confirmations before crediting), and has a min_block_height which hte other doesn't. So using incoming_transfers would need one such call plus a call per new incoming tx to get that other data.

How are Monero users called?

Is there already a cool name/term? Or do we need to create/find one? Obvious best via a community decision.

Moneristas ?

Though hopefully it will be "people" in ten years Smiley
1087  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: January 27, 2015, 09:58:58 PM
Tippero has grown since last time! He can now play bookie.

You can bet on real world events (sports games, etc). The first book was just open for the upcoming American football Superbowl game.

To see open book: !book

To bet 20 monero on a particular team: !bet seahawks 20

Tippero bookie games are not made on specific odds, but based on all the bets on this book. Winners share the total amount (minus 1% bookie fee) bet on a book, so if total bets are roughly the same on each team, winners will get about 2x their wager. Similarly, people betting alone on the underdog will win more if the underdog wins.

You can only bet on a single outcome per book. Books are expected to be closed to new bets when appropriate to stay fair to people who bet earlier. For sports games, this will be roughly when the game starts. Be sure to place your bets before that time.

World cricket championships are in february, and games will likely be included, so drop in in #tippero Smiley

Anywhere I can bet on Superbowl with XMR?

It's not up just yet, but Tippero will have this enabled sometime in the next couple days. It was supposed to go up for the cricket games in february but this seems like a good occasion to debut it early Smiley

I'll post details when it's ready.

For those who like gambling, there is now an IRC games channel in #luckyducky, where you can play dice and blackjack for XDN.

Quick start:
!help
!commands

Dice:
!dice 50 2   -- bet 50 XDN with even odds (x2 payout).
!commands dice   -- for more details

Blackjack:
!blackjack 100   -- bet 100 XDN on a game of blacjkack.
!commands blackjack   -- for more details

See also !help payment for info about depositing XDN to your luckyducky account, and !help withdraw for how to withdraw your XDN.

Both dice and blackjack games are provably fair. See !dice:fair and !blackjack:fair for details.
Betting limits are currently 10 to 5000 XDN. House edge is 1% for dice, and around 0.5% for blackjack.

luckyducky is also a tipbot, !help tipping for info.

Tippero has just learned Blackjack!

Those of you who like card game may relish the prospects of playing casino blackjack in #tippero, or directly one on one with tippero.

And as for the dice game, Tippero's blackjack is also provably fair with full details availaible via !fair.

This is a fairly complete blackjack game. Resplit to 4, blackjack pays the full 3:2. A number of side bets are also available. Insurance available when the dealer's upcard is an ace. See more details with !help blackjack and !commands blackjack

Basic game:
!blackjack 0.1

Side bets (list available with !sidebets):
!blackjack 0.1 over13 buster

You'll play a normal Blackjack game, with the side bets over13 (bet the sum of your first two cards scores over 13), and buster (bet that the dealer busts - the more cards it takes, the higher your payout!)

Side games are independent from the main game. If you lose a side bet, you still play the blackjack hand normally. See the list of available side bets with !sidebets.

Blackjack house edge is around half a percent. It might be between 0.4% and 0.6% Smiley

The commit has nothing to do with the diff, it just changed the Hashrate calculation in the deamon ( a log_print )

Sorry, I was unclear. This was just a side reference to an example of the hash rate being derived from difficulty, rather than something the network "knows".

I'm not sure what you want that i change there (commit a pull requests)

I'm working now on a solution

EDIT: As we still finding finding Blocks, I would say that i just change the diff window to 1 Block. As a temporary change

I was just commenting on the delay between hash rate loss and difficulty, I did not want you to change anything in particular. I'm not sure it's worth changing the window now tbh. The diff will drop at some point, I'm just not sure how much time it'll take.

New hashrate 60 KH/sec. On track

That large miner(s) seems to have left the network though, so we're stuck with a sky high difficulty till it drops again.

I still see a Network Speed about 60kh/s

Yes, that's the trouble. Network hash is derived from the difficulty [1], and it will go down slowly as the difficulty algorithm realizes that blocks are coming in very slowly, because that 60 kH/s is not there anymore.

10:08:30 73446
12:45:11 73447
14:21:24 73448
16:09:18 73449
19:27:04 73450

Looks like about a block every hour and a half today. And it will be so till enough blocks are found at this rate for the difficulty adjustment mechanism to bring diff down.

[1] That was one thing that needed updating from the CN code in commit c542b91a8a72982a77f46ffd71c3bf17b18ec0c5

Two more entries in the xmrmonero blog. https://xmrmonero.com/blog. For the moment, entries are not on the

And I added a new article about Tippero. This site seems a good place to get to keep track of Monero related news at a glance. It should complement the ANN thread well - clean overview vs disjointed bazaar of details.

Can you provide instructions to be added to this page: How to use a remote node? Please make it so that I don't have to refomulate, just check-copy-paste. Thank you.

I'm not sure I understand. There are instructions at this page. Are you saying they're wrong or deficient in some way, and want new instructions ?
If you just mean adding a note about this particular node, then you can add this at the end:

Tip4:
An alternative open monero node is maintained by Atrides, and may be used instead of hegemoon's node by replacing xmr1.coolmining.club:5012 with node.moneroclub.com:8880. See more details about this node at https://www.moneroclub.com/node.

Basic use: !dice 0.1 1.5For an explanation of how the provably fair system works, see !fair. There is even sample Python code supplied to check fairness of past rolls.
Do you plan to allow investement, like in JD?

No I don't. Maybe that's something that could be revisited at some point if volume picks up and a need for this arises.

The new tippero tipbot has learned a new trick!

Tippero now offers a provably fair dice game. You can play on IRC either in the #tippero channel, or directly with tippero (ie, /query tippero).

Basic use: !dice 0.1 1.5

This bets 0.1 monero for a 150% payout if you win. Multipliers can go from 0.1 to 10. House edge is 1%. Minimum bet 0.001 monero, maximum bet 5 monero.

See available dice commands with !commands dice. Game overview with !help dice. For an explanation of how the provably fair system works, see !fair. There is even sample Python code supplied to check fairness of past rolls.

2. If someone does not have enough RAM for bitmonerod? How can they verify their current balance? I know you can use simple wallet to create an offline wallet without using bitmonerod and generate an address to receive payments. For example can the view key be used for this purpose somehow by using the block explorer to check the current balance for an address in cold storage?

You can connect your simplewallet to a public node (subject to some security downgrade considerations). One such node is https://www.moneroclub.com/node. This will require a lot less RAM.
The view key can not yet be used for this, as there are no available tools for this yet. It is one of the intended purposes of the view key, though.

There is now a monero tipbot in #monero, tippero, kindly hosted by fluffypony.

It is coded from scratch, but works in the same way as typical IRC tipbots. See !help and !commands for more info, how to use it, etc.

If you spot any bug, feel free to ping me.

Is it possible to extend this to reddit/twitter etc.? Would be nice to tip some XMR to newcomers on reddit.

In fact, having looked at it a bit, it doesn't sound as bad as I first thought. It'll require a fair amount of changes to the existing code to abstract things away from IRC and related assumptions (eg, notion of a channel).

I doubt it, though I don't know enough about reddit/twitter etc to really have an informed opinion.
