If people are too dim to realise they're being played then I struggle to have any sympathy for them. It's so painfully obvious that there are larger entities out there who'll do anything to get their hands on your coins that it hurts.

97% or more of the USD, EUR etc is already digital - ie almost all of it's made up numbers.
If you mean adopting a cryptocurrency as we know them now, it would be a complete and utter disaster.

It seems that 50% of all the people replying here have no idea what we are actually talking about.
Indeed. It's fucking pitiful. There should be a multiple choice questionnaire followed by a large checkbox with 'DO YOU UNDERSTAND' before anyone's allowed to answer. https://themerkle.com/what-is-the-bitcoin-cash-token/

i am dropping all bitcoin assets like a hot potato, if for some reason I am actually holding any crypto at that point except USDT. The reason? Along with myself, others will attempt to capture as much guaranteed value from the forks, knowing that the market will dip as a majority takes profit. it will most likely come back up, some of the forks at least, but this will be the trading opportunity of a lifetime. its gonna be like Superbowl and Christmas rolled into the 4th of freakin July.
also assuming other markets will dip as they usually do, if btc retreats.
There won't be any chain split on August 1st. Segwit should be a done deal before that and BIP 148 will be an irrelevance. As will this most likely. I for one wouldn't be out of Bitcoin on that day and if you are you won't have any Bitcoin Cash to play with either unless you, like, buy it.

If it's available in your state then Gemini might be the best option. They don't crap out all the time and their verification seems to be pretty rapid.
Coinbase is about as big as it gets with Bitcoin so ID theft other than them being hacked isn't a worry.
In my experience crypto businesses ask for far, far more than any other financial outfits. I can open any account elsewhere without having to provide a sperm sample. That's just how it is.

Why couldn't they get the exchange to freeze the money? If they know the addresses it came from then it should be a piece of piss. Even BTC-e is willing to do that. I find it hard to believe people trying to cover their tracks would go straight to an exchange.

Is gold even a good investment right now? I must admit it'd be pretty cool to have a 1KG gold or silver bar in a glass cabinet in your home.
I will buy an ounce of gold when it's 0.1 BTC and even that's a bit steep as far as I'm concerned. I may wait for 0.05 or so. Metals in general hold precisely zero interest for me but I'd like to have a lump to throw at people for fun. I wonder how many people from here have paid 10-50 BTC for an ounce or more. A fair few. I would melt it down in a rage. The Anti Semite can do what makes it happy. I do wish it would stop ejaculating its opinions in our little faces.

There's only one real bitcoin, and that is the one backed by the best devs, so that means bitcoin core + original chain. Every other bitcoin is an altcoin by definition, and these altcoins will get dumped into 0.
What are they going to do with the 2X chain then? Core doesn't have any mining power and it's being activated in a way beyond their control. The 2X chain is going to become Bitcoin for now whether they like it or not. Are they going to suck it up and try to improve 2X or toss their cookies?

Why would I do that?
same thought as i, only a moron would sell because he fear the crash, but if he mean selling to buy back that is a good move in this market now, i find that this hard fork can contribute to the bitcoin price instead of destroying the value, i'm waiting for the next pump again This thread refers to Bitcoin Cash, not Bitcoin. You're getting it whether you like it or not on August 1st. What will you do with it?

Since when in human history has the human race shied away from inventing something potentially harmful if it's still possible to invent?
I can't think of one example. Even if enough rational minds are convinced it's a road they shouldn't go down, there'll be enough irrational minds to push it through.
It's coming no matter what.

The way I see it, you will have coins on several chains, but when you spend it on one chain, then you do not have it available on the other chains.
Surely that isn't the case. Once the new chain exists then they're now both completely separate entities albeit accessible with the same private key assuming you held before the fork. You get a new wallet for the new chain and they never interact again.

Bitcoin as a store of value is important but I will want to use it to buy things when it will have a less volatile price.
Store of value has to come first before any talk of it being a proper currency. Of course no national currency is a decent store of value, but they serve their purpose for a short while at least. You can be sure your dollar's worth is still a dollar's worth a few weeks down the line. Bitcoin needs to be an awful lot bigger and more widespread before it can do that.

With ETH/ETC, as soon as ETC started trading it got dumped down to a very low level. Then is quickly rebounded and went very high, I think up to 30% of the price of ETH, which was obviously assumed to be the strong side of the fork.
I wouldn't feel to confident selling straight away, you might also have to watch out for replay attacks, so be careful moving your Bitcoin/Bitcoincash around straight after a fork.
The ETC one is a forever unique case. To anyone from the outside looking in ETC was the far less offensive option. ETH had the personnel but basically shat all over itself though no one now seems to care. Either eventual Bitcoin doesn't have that problem. I suppose it's entirely down to perception and where the economic majority will head. I don't think anyone other than the creators of Bitcoin Cash have any incentive to support it. It's dead intriguing all the same. At this stage in the game the cash aspect is still the least important. People are looking for price appreciation, not spending money.

Let's get something actually achieved for once and then we can go back to scratching each other's eyes out. Core types won't like something that didn't originate 100% from them from every angle. Tough titty.

May feel almost like a real woman, but still sexbot does not have a woman's heart feeling, where the feeling of heart is something special in a sexual relationship.
Some people can't handle that. Some people don't want it. Others can't get anywhere near it even if they wanted to.

But I cannot take someone seriously who thinks that cars hold value? A fucking CAR? HAHAHAHA so go find someone who sold in 2013, at $1100, bought a car, and has more value now.... There are many, many cars you could've bought back then that you might have doubled your money on or more. Any crappy old 911, BMW M3s, Lancia Integrales, the list is endless. If you think crypto is in a bubble, then premium cars gave up on rationality a long time ago.

Depends how it's shaped. If its tight enough and realistic, then fck the ethic side.
That's what I like to hear. I think the only people fretting about ethics are idiot tech journalists with space to fill. And plenty of women of course.

I still believe this is a big bluff. I will believe it when it happens. And if it indeed should happen I will be probably very happy as we will finally got rid off of these clowns! In terms of the Chinacoin I don't know.Maybe I will sell a part and hold the rest to dump it later if the chain should still have any serious monetary value, what I highly doubt to be honest.
The thing is as it's been given a new name and is a self declared separate coin there's not much to bluff really. It's off to do its own thing though I've no idea what the endgame is. Everyone in this thread is spreading FUD, BIP91 is compatible with UASF so there won't be any chain split. Besides segwitx2 has over 90% support now.
It's not a chain split. It's a fork into a new coin. They're making no attempt to claim it's Bitcoin.

The rise up from sub 2000 today was awful fast so it's still very possible. I suppose it depends on how rapidly the signalling takes shape and whether it all goes smoothly. Definitely not out of the woods is my guess.

John Mcafee isn't stupid.
He is completely batty though which might have inspired the tweet. He probably snorted a couple of litres of vodka from some young hooker's eye socket.
