Actually, all this means is that Xapo took $40 million dollar investment, wasted all that money on lawyers in the lawsuit their old employer brought against them (lifelock or something), and now Xapo is totally shit losing their headman.
Another bitcoin company is busted. $40 million wasted. Xapo was a debit card - until their very stupid partners in Gilbraltar fucked them by telling them on the very first day of the card release that they can't do US customers, then Xapo became a vault - who needs a vault? Now Xapo is bankrupt. Another scar in the face of the bitcoin community.

This is very stupid. Anyone can find your stainless steel. You could lose your stainless steel. Horrible. Better idea is to Google a copy of the New York Times on your birthday. Then, use the text of the headline story. Use your social security number, for example 652-75-2386. Take the sixth word, then the fifth word after that, then the second word after that, then the seventh word after that.... That is your set of keywords that forms a personal seed. You'll never forget your social security number - or birthday. This will assure your key exists only in your head. You have access to it anytime you want. Nobody else could possibly arrive at this combination of words which has no relationship with anything. Total perfect security. Only you have forever access to your Bitcoins. Put encrypted copies of your seed on many usb keys/storage drives and place these in different geographical locations.
Completely dumb. People can find these. You could lose these. Why subject your fortune to such possible corruptions? Very risky exposure. |

Go ask BitPay or GoCoin. User adoption of bitcoin is near zero. People don't actually use it. The process needs to be simplified. This is not a step in the right direction. BitPay is also horrible. Too many steps. |

The is not the first debit/credit card. Xapo launched a debit card many months ago. Any way, it is good for the adoption of bitcoin.
Yeah, Zapo launched their debit card - which after 10 minutes became not available in the US. Totally different thing here - the Coinbase card is actually available. Zapo was just a bunch of hot air. Their 'bank' in Gilbralter lied to Zapo about being able to issue to US - and then told them on the night of the launch that it couldn't be done. So, Zapo doesn't issue cards in the US and Coinbase does. I'd say these are two very different situations. Zapo = total fail. |

Bit-X is a scam with large fees and merely a 'prepaid' card. You sell your bitcoin to someone who loads your prepaid card with value. it is not a true bitcoin card at all. Coinbase is a card which has a deposit account backing that is done in bitcoin. You hold bitcoin all the time. When a charge comes in, some bitcoin is converted to $$$ to pay the merchant. Totally different thing. Bit-x doesn't do US. Bit-X has shitloads of fees. Bit-X is a prepaid card. You could sell coconuts to some lunatic who would put $100 on a prepaid card. Does that make it a 'coconut Visa'? no, it just makes it a prepaid card getting charged up by some coconut dealer. Coinbase has a completely different system. |

Those other cards have failure mechanisms which the Coinbase card won't have because they are prepaid cards. The Coinbase Bitcoin Visa is backed by cryptocurrency deposits. There are many advantages doing it that way. And far fewer problems with declines. |
