1161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else getting deflated with the bitcoin naysayers? on: February 15, 2023, 06:45:53 AM
There's no point trying to explain Bitcoin to someone, who doesn't understand finance and economics. The people are used to fiat money, because this is what they have been using on a daily basis for their entire lives. There are several things that scare them away from Bitcoin:
1.The price volatility.
2.The "opportunity" to forget their passwords/private keys and lose all the BTC in their wallets forever(or sending BTC to the wrong address).
3.The amount of crypto scams, that are offering something that is too good to be true.
4.The centralized crypto exchanges blocking their funds for some BS reason or they are simply getting hacked(or turning into exit scams).
There are plenty of reasons for the people to be scared of Bitcoin/crypto. That's why mass global adoption of BTC hasn't become a reality.
I'm a Bitcoiner, but I still believe that the crypto industry is far from perfect.

Lost $$ on rivian EV investment
Doubled fulfillment center overhead on their warehouse expansion over roughly the past 2 years
Demand for amazon web services declined
Amazon is buying one medical for $4 billion

1.Investing in an EV manufacturer is a risky move that would probably pay off in the long term(after 10+ years).
2.Amazon had a growing business during the pandemic. The pandemic is now over, it's pretty normal for online sales to drop.
3.I don't think that AWS is the biggest part of Amazon. This isn't a "make or break" situation. I'm sure that Amazon Web Services will be fine
I don't feel sorry for Amazon. We should feel sorry for all the small businesses, that were killed by Amazon. Grin
1163  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling safer than before ? on: February 14, 2023, 07:05:01 AM

Just 2 months ago in my region unfortunately a guy in my age has been murdered in cold blood only for gambling when the victim managed to win a good amount of money against the owner of an illegal small casino.

This kinda answers your own question. Illegal and unregulated gambling will always be less safer than regulated gambling.
This applies to both offline and online gambling. Many mobsters and criminals are involved in the illegal gambling niche and it's definitely not safe to deal with such people. The illegal online gambling industry is pretty much the same, but you would only lose a small amount of money that you are betting(assuming that you are betting small amounts of money, betting big amounts is kinda stupid).
I think that almost nothing has changed in the gambling industry in terms of safety. Your safety is your own responsibility. Never rely on a casino to keep you safe.
1164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could hit $10M in 9 years but more sidechains needed: Blockstream CEO on: February 14, 2023, 06:40:48 AM
Adam Back is making a price speculation. This topic should be moved in the Speculations forum.
Bitcoin market cap hitting a value, that is above the global GDP? 200 trillion dollars? Not going to happen, if you ask me. Grin
How would the sidechains help for pumping the BTC price? By making BTC more accessible? By increasing the amount of daily transactions?
Relying on second-layer solutions(which are centralized) is against the core concept of  Bitcoin. It's like relying on the fiat banks and investment funds to pump the BTC price. Many Bitcoiners are actually waiting for this to happen, but I think that it won't happen. The fiat financial system will always remain hostile towards Bitcoin/crypto.
1165  Economy / Economics / Re: How Does Debt Crisis Boost Cryptocurrencies? on: February 13, 2023, 11:31:59 AM
1.What debt crisis are you talking about? Are you talking about a global debt crisis or a debt crisis in the country where you live?
It has been stated multiple times that Bitcoin can be used as hedge against inflation, but this is partially true. Last year, the inflation levels were really high, but the BTC price dropped severely. Maybe in the long term, Bitcoin might become a good hedge against inflation, but we as HODLers must survive the crypto winter and keep HODLing.
2.The golden rule of finance is to "never keep all eggs in one basket". This means diversifying your assets. Try to accumulate Bitcoin/crypto as well as precious metals and/or stable fiat currencies like US or UK pound. You could try to invest in real estate if you want. Nobody is saying that we should keep all our savings in BTC.
1166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features in Crypto Casinos for the Elderly on: February 13, 2023, 06:22:39 AM
I visited an uncle in another city. His birth year was 1960. He has been an avid gambler for a long time and frequently visits brick-and-mortar casinos. He currently wants to test out an crypto casino. He has heard a great deal about it. He did, however, note that despite possessing the cash, he has no knowledge of how to use cryptocurrency for gambling but would really like to. I would like to suggest that crypto casinos put a video tutorial explaining how to use cryptocurrencies for gambling on their website.

What other features would you like to see in crypto casinos for senior citizens?

I'm not comfortable promoting crypto gambling to seniors. Since your uncle is doing just fine on brick-and-mortar casinos why would he use online casinos? I know that online gambling is more comfortable, because you are doing it home. Why doesn't he use online casinos accepting fiat money? I guess that he knows how to use credit cards. Grin Is online gambling banned or restricted in your country?
I can't think of any "features" that would improve the online gambling experience of elderly gamblers. Most online casinos are pretty convenient already. The ones that aren't user friendly and convenient usually get kicked out of business by the competition.
1167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners with Alzheimer's. How do you work it out? on: February 13, 2023, 05:59:33 AM
Unfortunately, I can't think of a solution to your problem. Of course, you could try to keep your brain in shape, but Alzheimer's is a serious illness and there's no way to cure yourself completely. You could write everything down on paper, but eventually you will forget about the paper notes.
At some point, you will have to give out your crypto savings to your airs and/or you will have to invest them in serious medical treatment.
People with Alzheimer's aren't capable of running their own finances. This sucks, but there's no way around. Really sad story, man.
1168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: February 12, 2023, 07:40:59 AM
I guess that Arsenal had underestimated Brentford because they are preparing for the big match against Manchester City on February 15.
Maybe the gunners are losing momentum after losing points against Everton and Brentford. They will have to win against Man City, if they want to keep their first place and win the Premier League. Losing against City will make the situation worse for Arsenal and the players might not recover from the psychological crisis.
What the hell happened to Tottenham? Humiliating defeat against Leicester. I wasn't expecting a 1-4. Nothing worked for the London team in this match.
At this point I'm sure that Chelsea could lose points against every opponent in the Premier League. 1-1 against West Ham doesn't surprise me at all.
1169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will lead the world currency market?? on: February 12, 2023, 07:07:14 AM
US dollar is the world accepted currency and can be used as a medium of exchange.  In the crypto world, Bitcoin is the most popular and the highest accepted currency with greater value. Different countries have permitted bitcoin for transaction and many of them are thinking so and will eventually do so. Its acceptance is gradually increasing day by day. Do you think bitcoin will be the leader of the world’s currency market like US dollar in the future?Huh

No, because Bitcoin is too volatile and the BTC blockchain cannot handle billions of transactions per day. This question has been answered a billion times in the forum already. Grin Just try to find the old forum threads about this topic, instead of creating another useless forum thread.
It's historically proven that the biggest empire in the world has the dominating currency. First it was the British pound in 19th century, and then the US dollar took over after World War 2. Maybe the Chinese yuan will replace the US dollar as a global currency, or maybe not. Who knows. Bitcoin doesn't have a big empire behind it's back. A bunch of small underdeveloped countries are Bitcoin-friendly, but that doesn't mean anything. The big powers must accept BTC as a legal tender, which is close to impossible to happen,
1170  Economy / Speculation / Re: will bitcoin go back to 19000 on: February 10, 2023, 12:08:00 PM
OP, why did you have to pick 19K? Bitcoin price could go below 10K USD, if the conditions on the market allow this to happen.
There's nothing to worry about. We are still in the crypto winter. If you thought that the price recovery from 16K to 23K was stable I guess that I have to disappoint you. Many more centralized crypto exchanges will be facing trouble in the next weeks of months.
I'm also very nostalgic about the closure of Localbticoins. I've used them for 6 years without any issues. They were a really good crypto company. And yes, I know all the "be your own bank" and "don't use centralized services" golden rules, but I've used LBC since the days when I was a complete crypto noob and they've earned my trust.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What most gamblers do. on: February 10, 2023, 07:24:45 AM
I want to ask a question. And I need serious answer from this forum, and my question is WHY DOES A GAMBLER DON'T HAVE A SAVINGS.
In my country (Nigeria) there are many gamblers who don't have savings and it isn't help matters at all. Most of these gamblers can't afford for there families but they can afford money they will use to gamble. So why are they not having savings that they can use to help there families in time of lack. Like they said, we save money so money can save us tomorrow. But these gamblers doesn't know that.

1.Lack of financial culture and proper financial education. 2.Gambling addiction makes them financially irresponsible.
Why are you asking this question? Do you have gambling addicts in your social circle? Maybe friends or family members?
What kind of answer do you expect? Almost all gambling addicts have debts. It's impossible for them to save some money for their families.
The only way for them to save money is to quit gambling completely. I'm sure that most gambling addicts are aware of their problem. They just lack the self-control to change their behavior. The same thing applies to different kinds of addicts, not just the gamblers.
1172  Economy / Gambling / Re: Own a profitable gambling site. Looking for investors on: February 10, 2023, 06:45:23 AM
Do you have an announcement thread for your gambling website on Bitcointalk?
Did you run signature campaigns on Bitcointalk in the past? If yes, what where your marketing results?
Asking for a 100K investment for a website that is currently making 1-2K per day seems unrealistic.
I don't understand one thing. Those 1-2K per day are more like revenue, or they are just pure profit? If you are making 1K per day in profits, just keep saving those profits for 3-4 months and then re-invest the money in the casino. 1K per day is 30K per month and 120K after 4 months. Just cut your costs and save more money. I don't believe that anyone would trust you enough to give you 100K USD.
1173  Economy / Exchanges / Localbitcoins closing down on: February 09, 2023, 11:42:20 AM
Today I signed up to my LocalBitcoins account and I got this message.

Quote
LocalBitcoins will discontinue its service
Dear Valued Customers,

Originally LocalBitcoins was established to Bring Bitcoin Everywhere and drive global financial inclusion. We have honored that mission for over 10 years and we are proud of what we have achieved together with all of you, our loyal community.

We are therefore sad to share, that regardless of our efforts to overcome challenges during the ongoing very cold crypto-winter, we have regretfully concluded that LocalBitcoins can no longer provide its Bitcoin trading service.

We encourage all customers to withdraw their funds from LocalBitcoins and we ask you to proceed with withdrawing the Bitcoins from your LocalBitcoins wallet. You have 12 months to withdraw, however of course we encourage you to proceed withdrawing sooner.

Thank you for being a part of the LocalBitcoins family! It has been our honor and pleasure to serve you over the last decade.

Timeline for discontinuing the Bitcoin trading service:
2023-02-09 Suspension of new sign ups
2023-02-16
Suspension of trading on LocalBitcoins
Suspension of using LocalBitcoins wallet (with exception of withdrawing one's funds)
After 2023-02-17 LocalBitcoins customers will only be able to log-in to withdraw their Bitcoins. The trading and Wallet services will no longer be available at this point.
We thank you for choosing LocalBitcoins for all these years and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Is this even true? I can't believe that such a great crypto company is closing down. I haven't seen any news about this anywhere on the web. Are there any Localbitcoins users here? Please share your opinions.
1174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Few gimmicks about AI tokens & why they are getting strong economically . . on: February 09, 2023, 07:46:50 AM
We have Midjourney and ChatGPT and now AI tokens? What's next? AI shitcoins? "Bitcoin AI" fork? Grin
Unfortunately, image generating AI tools where created right after the NFT hype died.
Imagine what would have been, if tools like Midjourney have been used to create NFTs at the middle of the NFT madness? The NFT market would have been flooded with thousands of great looking NFT images and the price would drop to zero, because almost everyone and their grand parents are able to create a great image out of scratch. All those NFT project owners wasted so much money on designers, instead of using Midjourney or Lensa. Grin This would have been hilarious.
I don't know anything about AI tokens, but I don't see any difference between them and ICO tokens. It's just another quick cash grab scam.
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extremely Holding on: February 09, 2023, 07:02:24 AM
If this isn't some extreme form of holding, I wonder what it is then. According to the Twitter handle of Bitcoin Archive, 412Bitcoin worth $9.6m was moved from an address that was dormant for 11years. That means the owner just bought and "forgot" it there. While for some of us who have been holding for the past 3 months, it's seems like a century. This is gentle nudge that if someone has done it then you can(that is, if this is your goal).
How long do you think you can hold?

I don't think that this case falls under the category of "extreme HODLing". Most likely the owner simply forgot his password or private keys, but he found out about them recently. I also don't think that this guy would have missed the opporunity to sell his Bitcoins at 60K USD during the last big bull run back in October/November 2021. How much where 412 Bitcoins worth back in 2011-2012? A thousand dollars? This guy seems like an early BTC miner or something. I don't believe that he had spent a thousand dollars buying Bitcoins back in 2011-2012, when almost nobody knew anything about Bitcoin.

If Galatasaray is really able to sign Coutinho then i think this would be a huge deal for them. Philippe Coutinho is still one of the most talented players out there in the world of football in my opinion,

Coutinho was exceptional at Liverpool, but the transfer in Barcelona ruined his career. I don't know what happened in the Catalonian team with this guy. Going to a club like Galatasaray means that Coutinho is now basically a second tier player. Perhaps Jurgen Klopp would've tried to convince Coutinho into signing with Liverpool, so that the Brazilian player could get a chance to revive his career in a top tier club and help Liverpool in their battle for the fourth place in the Premier League.
Marco Asensio was never really a key player for Real Madrid. He's more like a substitute player, who replaces the big stars at the end of the match  for 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately he didn't turn into the new Raul Gonzales, despite the fact that he was prepared in Real Madrid's Academy. Maybe he will find his place in Arsenal.
1177  Economy / Economics / Re: The lies about "If invested $1000 during IPO for MSFT you would have made $1.6m" on: February 08, 2023, 07:49:32 AM
It's the same as saying "If I knew the winning lottery numbers, I would've hit the jackpot." Well, winning on the financial markets is supposed to be easier than winning the lottery jackpot, but in reality, it's pretty difficult as well.
Nobody is saying that the financial markets can guarantee everyone's wealth and prosperity. If anyone has told you this, he is lying to you.
If you ask me, the financial markets are:
1.A system for voluntary redistribution of resources.
2.A system that has to reward profitable companies(by making their stock prices go up) and punish the unprofitable companies(by making their stock prices go down). Profit means efficiency. The market must reward efficiency first and foremost. That's the whole point of market economy.
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone Rally around the Bitcoin Flag, there can be no competitors! on: February 08, 2023, 07:06:31 AM

Why was USDT so controversial?  Because it created the ability for Big Mafia Bankers to have Central Bank like control over a Blockchain that allows them to trade BTC and ETH without giving away their trades to KYC exchanges!

1.The "Big Mafia Bankers" don't have control over the blockchain. Manipulating the market and controlling the blockchain are two completely different things.
2.You are trying to build a conspiracy theory about stablecoins being created by Bitcoin haters and fiat supporters. I don't like stablecoins, but I don't believe in your theory as well. The stablecoins actually had a role in the bull runs, which happened in the lest few years. Maybe they are a ticking time bomb, maybe they are a scam, or maybe they are created for the convenience of the cryptocurrency traders.
3.There's nothing wrong with competition. Actually, competition is the driving force of capitalism and market economy. I'm not a fan of altcoins, but Bitcoin needs competition in order to be maintained in a good shape. Grin
1179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: February 07, 2023, 11:14:35 AM
Why do I have the feeling that this topic is becoming too political. After all, this is a gambling topic posted in the Gambling Discussion forum. Grin
I would bet my money on Ron DeSantis. We don't know whether or not Trump will be allowed to participate in the presidential elections.
Joe Biden going for a second mandate is a joke. Do you imagine the USA having a 80+ year old demented president running the administration for 4 another years in such turbulent times? Kamala Harris will have a better chance as a Democratic candidate. Nancy Pelosi is a joke. She needs to retire.
1180  Economy / Economics / Re: The Dedollarisation is on the road on: February 07, 2023, 07:25:33 AM
I wouldn't call "dedollarisation" the process which you are describing.
It's just a bunch of countries with totalitarian regimes deciding not to use US dollars. Most of those totalitarian regimes (excluding China) are under western sanctions, so they are trying to show muscles by saying "F**k U!" to the USA and the US dollar.
Does it work? Not really. Is the US dollar under danger because of this? I don't think so. At least not in the upcoming several decades.
I don't mind the US dollar losing a part of it's global dominance. The USA has been exporting inflation for the last 20 years. Maybe this process would lower the global inflation levels, because the world would become less dependent by the money printing machine of the Federal Reserve.
