1161  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people stop mining in the summer? on: April 26, 2013, 11:09:16 AM
I open the window.  Pretty simple solution.  Then again, it's not exactly very hot here. Smiley

Same, we just open a window on the north side and one on the south side and it's like living in a wind tunnel, air is sucked out because of the temperature/pressure difference on both sides of the property.  Wink

My prediction is once the end of the summer hits the whole game will change.

My prediction... Greed will kill Bitcoin!

Not good for the BitCoin network if a few strong hands corner the ASIC market.

Good for the LiteCoin network though!  Wink

Did you check it works by running a game on it?

6770's run hot and break easily in my experience.

Always agree a $value on your bitcoin for item swap then you have a legal swap contract recognized in law.
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: buy bitcoins with credit card? on: April 26, 2013, 01:53:08 AM
Offer something for sale for bitcoins that's the easiest way to get them.

You transact something like this..

BitcoinBuyer advertises I can convert your bitcoins into items, tell me what you want.
BitcoinSeller replies I want a new 7850 graphics card of $180 value.
BitcoinBuyer buys the item from a store for $180 dollars
Bitcoin Seller transfers the bitcoin in exchange for the item

Notice how this transaction avoided any Bank Accounts, PayPal, Credit Cards and third party risk!

This also becomes a $ swap contract should you need a lawyer to arbitrage a dispute it's recognized in law because you priced it in your local currency.

Enjoy. Wink

1168  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How come some people all of a sudden are willing to pay so much for bitcoin? on: April 26, 2013, 01:40:16 AM
Venture capitalists realize there are 8 decimal places to a Bitcoin

that means there are 2.1 Quadrillion coin units

and for those not so bright at math..

when 1 unit (Satoshi) = 1cent then 1BTC = $1,000,000.00

I'm going to try with new case fans, any suggestions?

Cooler Master 120mm 2000rpm Sickle Flow.

Quiet even when running full speed.
1170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2x 7970 help .. on: April 25, 2013, 09:04:54 PM
EU lead free solder starts to get brittle at 90c

Try to improve your cooling.

If the OEM fans go, you can strap cheap desktop fans to the cooler, it's no big problem.

1171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Help Securing my Wallets on: April 25, 2013, 08:58:00 PM
Why go through all that, when you can just create an EXT4 partition with encrypted HOME folder when you install Ubuntu 12.10.

Don't ever mine on the same machine you have your wallets on.

I might even go as far as keeping the lightcoin wallet on a different user account to the bitcoin wallet! Cheesy
1172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My GUIminer isn't detecting my GPU. What do? on: April 25, 2013, 08:48:56 PM
You need to install the Ati Open CL drivers so it can be used as a processor instead of a GPU.

Antigua and Barbuda

They won a WTO case against the US for protecting it's gambling market.

In response WTO said Antiguans can pirate US goods as compensation.

Sun, sea, sand and you'll never have to pay to see another Hollywood movie ever again! Cheesy

If the gov't finds some issue with Paypal and takes action to shut down the business.  (I know this is an extreme example but let's just take that as an assumption.)

Don't you think there will be another corporation that will pop up that does the same thing except adjusting their policies to follow the gov't?  I am assuming we are talking about US here.

No, because who wants to start a corporation in a country where the money is worthless, and the government can take your assets?

When it gets bad, the corporations just shut down and leave, until the population screams blue murder and revolts.
1177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if Putin / Obama says no ? on: April 25, 2013, 03:54:59 PM
Yeah but governments can regulate corporations.  Why else are 99+% of current currencies issued by governments?

And then the power goes off, you get empty store shelves, the bodies and trash collect in the street everyone has to get around on a push bike. Trust me we tried that in the 70s. It's called Communism (government takes over the means of production).
1178  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if Putin / Obama says no ? on: April 25, 2013, 03:49:44 PM
Corporations choose what currency to accept not governments!  Cheesy

Did you see PayPal said they were considering using Bitcoin yesterday? (3min in)

http://www.bloomberg.com/video/paypal-sees-20-billion-in-mobile-transactions-WlokACTBRterdjHAJGNB6w.html

This is a thinly veiled message to governments I suspect.

I don't know if this will help, but this is what I did with Ubuntu 12.04LTS and older version of Bitcoin-QT (not sure version but < 0.8.1)

Click on the top icon in the side tray.
Type "Bitcoin".
Click on the icon that looks like pencils, pen, ruler near the bottom if nothing shows.
It should come up with a Bitcoin icon that you can drag and drop into the side bar.
After launching it from the side bar, if you minimize, the sidebar gets a small white arrow, click this maximizes it again.
The menu bar is attached to the top of the screen, you need to click on the window to get focus before it shows the correct menu items though. If it don't work close bitcoin and start it again.

I hate Unity too!  Wink
