121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Bull is in the Crypto Arena on: April 24, 2019, 05:33:56 PM
Even in the whole year of Bull market, the market has to stop to correct at each phase, so feel free to make your orders to take profits and wait for chances from corrections to accumulate for your port folio. I don't predict anything will happen with market, because I am the same as you, we are not Mr. Market makers, so it's better to stop over waiting for exact forecast. Instead, I think we should pay more attention on current things on market, that somehow shows the market nearly hit its temporary station at which corrections have occured. Let's wait for few more hours to fill your bags with cheap altcoins.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright claims to be Satoshi? Here is what he should do ... on: April 24, 2019, 09:33:51 AM
Why we should spend our time to read news, discussions, and drama about Craig Wright, and not only Craig Wright, but also anyone else who starts drama to claim "I am real Satoshi Nakamoto"? In my opinion, such drama looks a bit silly, and I don't see any things that can force me to believe anyone whom suddenly appear and make such claim is real Satoshi, whom probably have not had interests and intention to appear publicly. Satoshi likely has demonstrated plans to stay anonymous since the start of crypto world, with Bitcoin more than 10 years ago.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is this another drama ? on: April 24, 2019, 07:47:25 AM
after Craig Wright drama
-snip-
do you believe with John McAfee, if he already know who is the real Satoshi Nakamoto ?
Let me tell you my perspective on this. It is time to stop all drama on who are real Satoshi Nakamoto, no matter what drama started by anyone else, it does not a real matter at all. The main reason is why Satoshi Nakamoto, whom dissapeared years ago, have to reappear again? Which kinds of reason can force him to appear again? If you can tell me reasons for his / her/ their potential re-appearance, we can discuss more about it. If you can not do it (with reasonable things), the dicussion should be stopped here, and the topic should be locked.
Personally, I think we should leave Satoshi is only Satoshi Nakamoto, no more or less. If you are a big fan of Satoshi Nakamoto, why not wearing this signature? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5092492.msg49024563#msg49024563
124  Other / Meta / Re: Random merit giveaway threads. What do you think about them? on: April 19, 2019, 01:09:45 AM
Most annoying for few of the thread starter that  they hoarded their sMerits specifically for the purpose that someday they will start their Merit thread.
Few of them were started with good intention but few just copied the concept.
Another assumption is they started their merit-give-away topic as an initiative to legalize their merit sellings. I am not sure about this, but there is a big question about that. They might start a topic with easy requirements, and then give their merits away legally without any suspect.
Personally, I don't think that merit give-away operators whom aim at Newbies or Junior Members should require too much because I experienced such hard period myself. I had to struggle to earn my very first merits. Even when I am a Member, I still struggled with my first 40 or 50 merits. I am not sure that everyone will experience the same difficulties as well as the same journey as mine, but the first one to move up to Junior Member, then the first 50 merits to get enough experience and familiarize with the forum are the most challenging period of forum members whom started from Newbies.

Fortunately, I ranked up to Full Member a few days ago. That rank is my desired destination for more than one year, and eventually I hit it.
By the way, I say thanks to LoyceV, whom sent me 8 merits in a row into my two different topics. I thought I deserved that, but again thank you LoyceV (if you actually read the post later) for your help to boost me to Full Member faster a little bit.
125  Other / Meta / Re: [Solutions] What happened with topics of top altcoins? Uncontrol shitshows on: April 18, 2019, 04:41:20 AM
Pumps and dumps are basic stuffs in crypto, even with bitcoin. So I don't think it is appropriate to call ETH as a scam because it get pumped and dumped over its history. Even with bitcoin, investors have to choose and make right decisions to enter and get out to earn profits. Huh
lol why? ETH is a pump and dump coin and all you needed to make profit from it was to participate in it during the pump and exit before the dump began to make the same amount of profit if not even bigger one!
There is no forum, no channels, like Steemit, Reddit that can replace bitcointalk forum as the biggest place to discuss about crypto, not only about bitcoin.
Quote
as for reddit, i disagree. reddit is worse than this place specially when it comes to technical discussions. it is mainly used for hyping things up.
126  Other / Meta / Re: You are not Satoshi on: April 18, 2019, 04:07:48 AM
What if satoshi actually return after years dissapeared with his fortune from bitcoin mined in the genesis block? What you will react with Satoshi when he or she or they come back? Please stop judging everyone like a lord in the forum. I don't get issues with the forum, so far, and might not get issues with it in the future. You are right that we all have to start from zero (Brandnew), then fastly move up to Newbie before spending more time to become Hero or Legendary with old ranking system without merit system. I started from zero, and now I am a Full Member, proud of that, and honestly I have not had issues with forum.
127  Other / Off-topic / Re: [GUIDE] Using bookmark tool in Chrome to mark bitcointalk topics/ posts on: April 18, 2019, 03:52:04 AM
Appreciate your time to make this guide, but I believe there is no need to make two separate threads for this. You can edit this thread to something like "Using bookmark tool in your browser" etc. And then create separate sections for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc. It would make it easier for people to search and save their time from scrolling all the way down.

Nice guide btw, though I'm sure bookmark is not entirely new, maybe some people can't do it.
Appreciated your proposal, I locked the topic for Firefox browser, and already changed the title of the topic.
I don't use Safari, so anyone whom familiar with the browser as well as its bookmark tool, please feel free to leave guide steps of Safari browser here, I will add it into the OP.
128  Other / Off-topic / Re: [GUIDE] Using bookmark tool in Chrome to mark bitcointalk topics/ posts on: April 17, 2019, 11:09:54 PM
For people thinking that Chrome is the only one with bookmark organization in their browser you should be relieve because for Firefox users your browser has a similar feature even Macbook users have it om their Safari. This only shows that Bookmarking isn't new and it has been used a lot for diffent purposes related to remembering certain pages/articles. You should know the importance of Bookmarking since a lot of important guides and topics in the forum tends to get lost in the pages when the time passes by on no one is posting, even searching the particular topic in Google won't help most of the time if you don't know what to start searching with.
I made it yesterday, but I am not familiar with Firefox because I usually use Chrome, or Tor browsers. However, I will edit the topic later today when I have time. If you have anything to contribute, please feel free to leave it there

129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Newbies please read Services' / Bounties' topic tittle before applying on: April 17, 2019, 02:27:32 PM
It's really annoying when I see someone is applying on a campaign even it's full or close for new participants. Wondering how they will give their best performance if they are not bothering to read topic title. And yes, most of managers especially on bitcoin signature avoid applications whoever applied before announcement of free spot. So whoever expecting to enter good campaign they should avoid this kind of behaviour.
Sometimes we see campaign with [FIN] in title, it means campaigns already finished. I also saw some guys apply to [FIN] campaigns, because managers don't lock bounty topics immediately after changing its title to [FIN]. Maybe managers forget to lock topics or don't care about it, I don't know, honestly, but I really think managers should lock finished bounty topics in order to avoid spam.
130  Other / Meta / Re: Random merit giveaway threads. What do you think about them? on: April 17, 2019, 11:47:46 AM
Even someone try to create new topics to send merits to their alts, they will be not have enough merits to do this. Amount of airdroped merits are not too large, instead finite amount. So, they can not help their alts move to even Member rank, or Full Member rank. Nowadays, Junior Members have very limited chances to join campaigns, so I don't think it will be a huge problem. In addition, you are right about the potential abusements.
Moreover, I don't think you made a good title, "Random", I don't agree with the word, random.  Tongue
Because you made a good topic, that present current situation of the forum, not a serious one (in my opinion), I sent you 1 merit. Congrats!

[GUIDE] Using bookmark tool in Chrome to mark bitcointalk topics/ posts
132  Other / Off-topic / [Guide] Using bookmark tool in browsers to mark bitcointalk topics/ posts on: April 17, 2019, 09:31:56 AM
Welcome to my topic!

In the guide, today I will give you some tips to mark topics or posts in the forum for later reference.
The idea come to me today, when I saw a post published by LoyceV (here). Personally, before today, I usually mark topics or posts that I consider as helpful in Microsoft Excell Spreadsheet, but the kind of bookmark is available with browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, Tor, Brave, as the guide will present, is cool.

Now, let's get started!

To bookmark bitcointalk topics, posts or whatsoever helpful things you find on Internet space, and make them orderly, conveniently for later use, and reference; you should create Bookmark's folders. Inside each bookmark's folder, you will store relevant things for your interests.

There are some basic steps despite of whichever browser you use:
  • Creating folder (folders)
  • Choosing good topics or posts
  • Saving them in your bookmark folder (folders)
Remember that you should manage your bookmark with different folders of each kinds of documents. When you want to make a reference, such management style will help you save a lot of time to scan all bookmarked topics/ posts (if you store them in only one folder).

In the guide, I will present steps to bookmark with several most current popular browsers:
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Tor
  • Brave

I. Google Chrome

1. Creating Bookmark Folder
Clicking on the Customize and Control Google Chrome button at the top right corner of your Chrome browser, then choosing 'Bookmarks > Bookmark manager'.
Please see the attached image.

2. Creating new Book Mark Folder, and name it
Next, you will be directed to new page, you should do following steps to create a new bookmark folder, and give a new folder a name.

For example: I created a folder, that named as 'Bitcointalk topics/ posts'

Then, after giving a name to your bookmark folder, you will get something like this one

3. Bookmarking your interest topics/ posts and allocating them into relevant folder
For example:
I would like to bookmark the topic, Instructions on how to use BBCode
Steps to do:
- Visiting the topic, then click on the button at the top right corner of Chrome browser, 'Bookmark > Bookmark this page'

You can choose folder in which you will store the topic, I choose the folder 'Bitcointalk topics/ posts'.
If you add more posts or topics in the same folder, you will see something like this

4. You should create several folders to classify topics/ posts, and should not store them all in only one folder

II. Firefox
Steps:

1. Choosing topics/ posts, and creating Bookmark Folder
In order to create bookmark folder in Firefox, you should follow belows steps, in order

For example, I type 'Bitcointalk' as the folder's name

2. Checking results of bookmark and edit further
Using this step if you want to add more details on your posts/ topics bookmarked. Please type Ctrl+Shift+B to visit the following page

You can add more details for each post, topic you bookmarked, such as tag, key words.
Moreover, in case the original link of topic changed, due to topic removed by author or mods, you can edit its link in the Location place (see the image then you will get what I mention).

III. Brave
Steps:

1. Choosing topics/ posts you want to bookmark
Bookmark > Bookmark this page (or press Ctrl+D)

It will automatically lead you to this page, please click on choose another folder to create a new folder to save the topic

Next, click on a button 'New Folder' at the left corner in the bottom

Typing folder name, then click on the 'Save' button.

2. Checking your bookmarked topics/ posts
Whenever you want to find out your bookmarked topics/ posts, please click on Bookmarks, then you will see something like the image attached

IV. Tor
Similar steps as of above browsers, so I simply left images here as ordinal steps.

I hope the very basic topic is helpful for bitcointalkers whom have not known those tips to use bookmark tools on some browsers.

I appreciated the author of the topic by sharing a phising site of blockchain.com (official one). However, I don't know why people keep intentionally visit, and log in on phising site by ignoring the security message, like this:

Moreover, they can apply my tips to discover other phissing sites and protect themselves from such dangerous sites.

Today, I saw another user mentioned about new phising site of blockchain.com, so please bookmark your most favorite sites, and be careful when you log in your accounts on blockchain.info to avoid get trapped by phising site.

135  Other / Meta / Re: Trust: The New Rank requirement? on: April 16, 2019, 01:20:14 PM
I dunno. I think this will just lead to people trying to farm their feedback to try achieve the rank. I think there should be a new level above Legendary though. There's a big difference now between a new user signing up and eventually achieving legendary and someone who signed up a few years ago and just got it by being here a while. Maybe the activity to get Legendary should be changed so it all has to be earned merit and not airdropped and anyone who doesn't have sufficient merit is demoted to Hero. There's not really any benefits to being a Legendary over Hero anyway other than in name so it won't matter much. That would then at least give the rank some meaning. There's far too many Legendaries about now and there's probably not gonna be many more made naturally so I think there should be some distinction between those who just go lucky.
For now, maybe old generation of Legendary have reason to keep their ranks, but if we look at 10 years later, it will be ridiculous if 10 years after merit system born, they won't earn a single merit and still be a Legendary.
Why only demoted to Hero?
I suggest to have auto-demotion over time.
For example:
4 years after merit system's birthday, if a Legendary won't earn enough 500 merits, account will be demoted to Hero.
6 years after, if a Legendary won't earn enough 250 merits, account will be demoted to Senior Member.
8 years later, a Legendary won't earn enough 100 merits, account will be demoted to Full Member.
136  Other / Meta / Re: Trust: The New Rank requirement? on: April 16, 2019, 10:14:29 AM
That's actually a good idea, to create a new rank after the LEGENDARY, and the TRUST requirement should only be applicable to them.
So its just like the rankings on DOTA2.

  • Legendary
  • Ancient
  • Divine
  • Immortal

Well, this is just an example of ranking names but I know if ever Theymos can think for a better name of the rankings.
It is too complicated, I don't think theymos has interests with it, and me too.
Over time, trust system and rank system are different and they also have difference roles in the forum ,since their beginnings. I don't see overlaps between them, and don't think the forum should adjust them to have such complex overlaps.
Personally, only one new rank above Legendary is enough. If more and more ranks added over time, the forum will turn into almost same with what we can see in games. Ranks and levels of games' characters added overtime, and years later become overload. But, they are games, and gaming companies need such overload to get income. The forum is totally different, so I don't think theymos will add many more ranks

If new ranks added, I suggested to add only one more rank, like Maharishi.
To get that rank, users have to collect 4000 merits in minimum. It will take even outstanding users 4 to 5 years to hit that rank. It also means that we only should think of a next new rank 10 years later. Smiley
137  Other / Meta / Re: You are not Satoshi on: April 16, 2019, 08:30:51 AM
What I saw is the forum has been full of kind-hearted users, whom are readily to help each other.
They help each other in so many ways. From answer to questions, guides (to avoid scam, to secure account, to sign Bitcoin message, to avoid phising sites, and more things), to clean up scammers, and scam projects. They also help deserved users to rank up.
I don't understand why you start your topic, but honestly all of my opinion written above come from my participation in the forum more than one year.

I have come so close to the next rank, and I would have not come to current position without help from other users. Of course, I have to contribute to the forum first, then they will help me in return.
I would have reached Full Member rank or even Senior Member rank if merit system has not launched, bit for now I don't get problems with merit system, that does only delay my journey a little bit with its challenges.

139  Other / Off-topic / The era of scam, pyramid forked coins has come to the end on: April 15, 2019, 03:32:44 PM
As I discussed about it months ago, there:
Upgrade or hard-fork? Is it time to stop over-misusing the term hard-fork?

In crypto, the term 'fork' has been abusively used since 2018 till early days of 2019. In my opinion, with lots of clone, scam forked coins we have seen so far, I think that it's time to put an end to scam, pyramid, clone coins that used as a nominal technical term. And, this one has been abused massively by scammers.
Bitcoin SV, another recent fork from famous altcoin has delisted from Binance
https://www.coindesk.com/binance-delists-bitcoin-sv-ceo-calls-craig-wright-a-fraud

The forum rules can be changed, forum systems can be changed, so why we can not change technical term relates to fork in order to clean up scammers from crypto space?
140  Other / Meta / Re: Isn't this copy-paste? [plagiarism] [user=yogg] on: April 15, 2019, 02:53:06 PM
Coolcryptovator posted a definition of plagiarism, but why not sticking with theymos' opinion on this?
Here is a theymos' opinion on plagiarism.
Plagiarism is what gets people permabanned, not just copying. Plagiarism is copying with the intent of passing the work off as your own. In essentially all cases, plagiarism deserves a permaban because it usually proves definitively that the person is here for the wrong reasons: to fill up space in order to get paid, not to actually discuss or contribute. If someone was able to convince us that they were plagiarizing just to eg. impress people rather than to fill up space, then a lesser ban of a few months might instead be warranted. But this has never happened AFAICR. (Arguments based on plausible deniability aren't going to work; we don't need to prove that you had the motive we see in your actions.)

If you treat posting as a job, a chore, then you must live in fear, since the forum is not made for you. In this case, you need to blend in as someone who actually cares, but plagiarism will immediately out you, and producing a mountain of useless posts will also eventually be noticed, if more slowly. If you do actually care, then this will be obvious in your posts (and probably your merit score), and you will have nothing to fear from moderators; even allegations of plagiarism will be doubted when seen in the context of your other posts.

Quote
in extreme cases could be copyright theft?

Plagiarism is almost always a copyright violation which could conceivably get the poster in a lot of trouble, but it's not a bigger legal issue for the forum than anything else. (Using the forum to violate copyright is never allowed, though.)

Quote
when copying and pasting from the net can it lower google rankings? and internal copy and past could do the same thing?

That's not a particular concern of mine.
