123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I go about making a paper wallet? on: December 14, 2013, 05:48:40 PM
Here is something you should NOT do:

You have a paper wallet with 10 BTC, import it into bitcoin-qt to spend 1 BTC, then delete bitcoin-qt. The 9 BTC are lost.

Why?

bitcoin-qt sends the 9 BTC to a new change address that you do not have the private key of, once you delete bitcoin-qt.

Is this true?

Having a hard time figuring out if you can actually move part of a paper wallet and thus lose the rest or if its only possible to sweep a paper wallet.

Also, what is the reason paper wallets can't be partially spent?

Are there any betting markets?
Not the time weighted ones. Those are pretty silly for sports.

Gotta be some playthrough requirement or something right? Either way I like money.

So each of 6 players have a probability of winning the total jackpot equal to their share of the total prize pool?
128  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just got an international wire reversed! on: December 13, 2013, 04:34:31 PM
This is what worries me about using localbitcoins. I don't know nearly enough about banking to know which payment methods to take or how long I need to wait before I know the funds won't be taken back.
129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone Gamble With bitcoins ?? on: December 13, 2013, 04:07:01 PM
If you want to play poker obviously seals with clubs is THE bitcoin poker room, but I'd suggest playing the freerolls on bitcoinpoker.io. They are giving $5 away every time 8 people sign up for an SNG and half the players are usually sitting out.
130  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: offline wallet address and checking balance on: December 13, 2013, 12:46:46 AM
Someone know of a technical article I can read that explains how addresses and keys are created?

I want to get an idea of how address creation works. For example, how you can create an address offline yet the network knows it.
131  Other / Meta / Re: Can we get a poker sub-forum in gambling... on: December 13, 2013, 12:21:29 AM
All the games that aren't poker are casino games anyway. Poker and Casino games. Blackjack, Baccarat, etc don't belong with poker. Pretty much all gambling games other than poker(Dice, blackjack, etc) fall under casino games. With the exception of sports betting.

There are other games that could go in with poker(Gin and Backgammon come to mind), but no one plays those other skill gambling games online so its a moot point.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fidelity Now Allowing Bitcoins In IRAs on: December 12, 2013, 07:39:51 PM

Just a matter of time before someone allows it. Especially if they are getting a kickback from the trust(which they probably will).
133  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Without drug trading sites there would be no Bitcoin on: December 12, 2013, 07:22:29 PM
What evidence is there that bitcoin is more likely to be used in a drug sale than the $USD?

Pretty good evidence given how many coins the FBI recovered. How many non drug items do you think are sold using bitcoin right now?
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fidelity Now Allowing Bitcoins In IRAs on: December 12, 2013, 05:04:12 PM

But in any event, while you or I would rather just store our own bitcoins and avoid the fees, it's reasonable for the less technically-savvy. Additionally, this allows investors to gain exposure to bitcoin through an already-understood vehicle (ie, your CPA will be able to figure out the tax consequences easily). And the fees will likely remain pretty negligible compared to the overall gain or loss, for quite some time, due to the fact that bitcoin will remain volatile for a while; we're still obviously in wild price-discovery mode for a fascinating and far-reaching new technology, asset-class, and monetary system.

If you don't understand bitcoin enough to figure out how to properly store them safely then you probably shouldn't be pumping $25,000+ into them.
135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 12, 2013, 05:01:18 PM
Lame speculation, Apple themselves have clearly mentioned that they will not allow it until there is regulatory clarity.

I don't think there is any ulterior motive here. This is just the downside apple gets for controlling everything with an iron fist. They are responsible for what happens in their app store because they decided to control it so tightly.

Eventually it will catch up with them(again).
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin gets a mention on The Colbert Report (12/10/13) on: December 12, 2013, 04:55:03 PM
If it goes up he will claim it was because of the colbert bump now.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FT article "Time to take the Bitcoin bubble seriously" on: December 12, 2013, 04:53:25 PM
Nice headline. Sensationalist and makes no sense. Not "Time to take bitcoin seriously".
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fidelity Now Allowing Bitcoins In IRAs on: December 12, 2013, 01:17:02 AM
They charge 2% annually and 1.5% on the backend. Up to you to determine whether that is a fair price to store your bitcoins. From what I can tell they aren't trading bitcoins. They are literally buying and storing bitcoins on the investors behalf and charging them a fee.

I suppose those percentages could be worth it if they have ways of obtaining bitcoins at lower prices than the average person.
139  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitcoinPoker.io - 0% Rake Until January 1st. on: December 12, 2013, 01:01:42 AM

Yes, there are a few bots running on the site to help get things started.  I didn't really think of them as a bonus, but I suppose they are Smiley

You're on a pretty good roll.  You won the first freeroll last night worth 2500 chips (0.025 BTC), and taken home a nice stack of bitcoins as well.  Congrats!

Was wondering what was going on. Not that I'm complaining   Grin. If you want a prop for the micro/small stakes cash PM me. We can probably come to some arrangement if you are interested.
140  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does wikipedia remind of you the beggards on this forum? on: December 11, 2013, 10:49:29 PM
I'm more sick of these threads than I am their begging for money.

If you want to give them money just give them money. Quit asking them to help you promote BTC.
