I’m hearing rumours about privacy coins possibly getting delisted. Are exchanges compliant to the (coming) regulations when they have privacy coins on their trading options? Or are these all false rumours?

I am going to post this ad nauseum until it sticks:

Quote
People often like to purport that Monero will inevitably get banned. However, the new FinCEN guidance is basically inconsistent with that notion. From the CoinCenter article:

Quote
Section 4.5.3 states that exchanges are not per se banned from using privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies but will need to comply with the same BSA regulations they comply with for typical cryptocurrencies. We believe that this is possible. Exchanges need to know their customers but they do not have a black letter law requirement to know the customers of their customers. In other words, a bank needs to know who you are but they are not obligated to know the name and address of people that you pay using cash you withdraw from your account.

Arguably, this is long-term bullish for Monero.

Additionally, Tari Labs is creating an open source framework for listing Monero as well as educating regulators.

Don't invest in it.

Use it.

You can both invest in it and use it. The one does not necessarily exclude the other. Besides, private wealth storage is a perfectly valid use case.
Yes!
I currently dont have a way to use Monero.
Most of  you will hate me for saying this but in 5 years time, I dont think that there will be much potential for good privacy coins investment wise.
And the reason is that regulation is moving in and they will not like exchanges listing coins which are non traceable.

Got a question: Are there any XMR wallet apps available via Tor's browser (onion network)? Which is the best and reliable?

As always, was scrolling through the twitter feed. Found a tweet (https://twitter.com/brale_core/status/1147838919364501505) where a guy claims some messenger browser app to be available via .onion, which makes it possible to access & use this messenger's blockchain net with about no chances to leak the user IPs *as it happens to P2P com apps like whatsApp or telegram*. I'm a pretty much geek on privacy topic so it took me for a while, unless I reminded myself about how the Monero's being used in our days. That is, in fact, all xmr wallet apps I know are held by commercial-like companies. And, what's more creepy, many of them are working from jurisdictions like USA/EU/China, which are you know... those Snowy days...

So the usage of apps like this is easy to be tracked & stored. And the apps like Monero core or electrum-like is not really adapted for reliable proxies/VPN support, neither the Tor. Not to mention that the nodes are instantly receiving the sender's client IP and whatever viruses can those white hats produce.

So, for now, I'm asking myself if I or anyone else can go use Monero wallet with any percentage of non-tracking guarantees of my device, which is for me, the Tor network. Are there any Tor web-wallets or anyone has a wish to start one? I have absolutely no idea why's everyone talking on those 'gorgeous' blockchain privacy features, just keeping to use some iOS USA-based wallets...

You can run the official GUI on Tails (either with a local node or a remote node):

Good post.

It seems this time it will be all about institutional money, and institutional money only wants bitcoin, maybe ETH, and a few others. Monero? Might be too shady.

With Info on this one. Pseudonymity is a pill regulated markets will swallow. True anonymity, in contrast, will be spat up.

GUI v0.14.1.0 'Boron Butterfly' (with Ledger Nano X and Trezor Model T support) released!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/c8eg6k/gui_v01410_boron_butterfly_with_ledger_nano_x_and/
Is this a mandatory update or not?

No. There are a lot of new features and improvements though. Thus, I'd argue it is worthwhile to upgrade.

Dat daylight mode though!!  Shocked

Also, I’m sure it’s been talked about before somewhere else, but I’m guessing the plan is to eventually have Model One support for the trezor too at some point?

As long as it has sufficient resources to support Monero, yes.

Hi,

need help please.
I have sent XMR from GUI to a wrong address. payment is still pending since hours.
it is showing unknown recipient
Block height pending.
What can I do?

Thanks!

Did you send to an integrated address? Because those are displayed differently on the history page.

Thanks!

note sure how it happens, the address is completely different.... been googling fr while and managed to fix it jsut 3 min ago by following the instruction under this link via the cli wallet

monero.stackexchange.com/questions/6649/transaction-stuck-as-pending-in-the-gui

Can you try these steps:

1. Go to this tool -> https://xmr.llcoins.net/addresstests.html

2. Put the original address in box 8. Public Address:

3. Click Check Address

4. Check box 15. Standard XMR:

5. Does it match the address displayed in the GUI?

Release of Exa Wallet — mobile wallet with multisignatures support:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/bwase5/release_of_exa_wallet_mobile_wallet_with/

First multisignature wallet if I am not mistaken. Did anyone try it already?
Hello I see it's for iOs and Android.
But it's only a mobile wallet? There is no desktop version?

Copied from the source:

— Mobile only? Any plans for a desktop app?

At this point, we're working on a fork of monero-wallet-gui to support the same workflow of multisignature wallets.
Great but no desktop version as of now so...

They plan to release a desktop version in the foreseeable future.
Do you know when exactly? There is an ETA? In short in 2020 or in 2025?

They did not provide an ETA, but I am reasonably certain 2020 is way more likely than 2025 :-P

Kind of like one of the main goals of Ticketmaster is the US dollar's success?  Please, it's a private company.  I'm glad it exists but let's not get carried away.

Private companies exist to make profit.  What Tari does for Monero is that they will spend their founds to develop open source code that could be latter on copy pasted to Monero. At least the concept since it uses different program language. That is huge and Monero needes more such projects.

Hence the push to migrate Monero to Rust

There's no such push as far as I can see.

Hi,
I upgraded my wallet from v12 to v14. But I am having an issue: monero-wallet-gui.exe does not work. It only appears in Task Manager for a second, and then immediately exits. No log file is created so I am at a loss what happens. Previous version worked OK.
I downloaded the archive from official website (not the installer) and replaced all files in my Monero folder as usual. Since then, monero-wallet-gui.exe did not work.
I then ran monerod.exe, which worked OK. At first it upgraded blockchain database from version 1 to version 2, then 3, then 4 (if I remember correctly). It is synchronizing blocks as I write this post. So my blockchain db is not corrupt. I tried running the GUI wallet while monerod.exe is running, same result. And turned off Avast antivirus temporarily, same result.
Can anyone advise what to do, please?

Do you have active AV (AntiVirus) software on that system?
Yes and Monero folder is under exclusions. And disabling AV makes no difference. Previous version (v12) worked without problems.

Can you try launching via the start-low-graphics-mode.bat batch file that is included?
That was one of the first things I tried but forgot to mention... same result: the gui exe only appears in task manager and then immediately quits, with no log created.

I have a feeling your AV is still deleting necessary files (i.e. files required in order for the GUI to run properly). Can you perhaps try these steps:

1. Reboot to ensure all Monero related processes are closed.

2. Apply this guide -> https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/10798/my-antivirus-av-software-blocks-quarantines-the-monero-gui-wallet-is-there

3. Note that step 2. implies that you have to re-extract the .zip file.

4. Start monero-wallet-gui.exe again. Does it launch properly now?
That made me try one more thing: back up all Monero folder contents into a 7z file, delete all files and folders from inside Monero folder, and extract downloaded Monero wallet files anew (so that there are no leftovers from older versions). Monero GUI wallet is now running as it should. But I don't know why, it launches the daemon (monerod.exe) in a separate command line window. Previously it ran only in the background, not displaying a separate window. Probably that has been changed, but is no big issue, just noticing.

That is due to a bug in the build system and the issue is kind of difficult to debug. However, I expect it to be fixed once deterministic builds are available for the GUI (we're working with TheCharlatan to get deterministic builds going for the GUI).
