My last prediction was way off, but I do think we'll see big movement before October. We're deep in the "is anything ever going to happen" phase of the cycle that is reminiscent of last year when the price seemed to perpetually hover around $30.
The general pattern of the XMR market (and all of crypto, really) is long periods of consolidation and false reversals, followed by very brief moments of extreme excitement and massive price increases. I'm confident we're going to see some fireworks (very) soon.
Crypto winter is time to upgrade personal infrastructure. Position size, exchange accounts, and key management. Casa is a very interesting key management solution with 3 / 5 multisig and plans on supporting monero in the first round of coins after bitcoin. Right now, 3 of 5 isn't yet available on Monero, I will be interesting to see how fast their infrastructure engineer Jameson Lopp can come up with a robust integration. - I recommend Monero to most because the privacy characteristics are on by default; most zcash users are not actually making use of shielded txns.
- "Has anybody noticed that drugs have gotten a lot cheaper this year?" - Anonymous Monero Holder
- "Switching to Monero is always an option." - @zooko
- Monero is a strong project - I wouldn't dismiss it.
Jameson Lopp on Twitter Jameson has plenty positive to say about Monero. Looking forward to seeing more OG bitcoin engineers working on Monero. Link(s) to his (Jameson Lopp) tweet(s)?

I have a theoretical question.Suppose a coin (could be Monero, or could be something else) requires 20 confirmations everywhere (exchanges, merchants, whatever). Suppose this coin also had an update that refused to accept alternate chains deeper than 19 blocks ago. That would, in theory, kill the 51% issue, right? What would the downsides be?
Which scam fork you asking this for? thx, any critical reason to update or is this a scheduled one? I guess it would be prudent to upgrade if you're affected by the time-out issue. thx, I wasn't sure if it was just this. I noticed it didn't happen if I kept focus on the console itself. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't and DB breaking issues as I had a corruption issue I dealt with for awhile but didn't see a bug fix on that. Just bad timing for me on that I guess. The following critical bugs that were present in CLI v0.12.2.0 are fixed in CLI v0.12.3.0:
The time-out issue (i.e. wallet not able to connect to daemon upon creating a transaction or wallet disconnecting during wallet refresh (with either a remote node or a local node))
In addition to aforementioned salient bug fixes, there are a lot of small bug fixes and improvements. 20 confirmations is 40 minutes. That seems a lot for a payment.
What is an alternative chain and what is real chain? Both are real and both are alternative. Miners will decide which is real. I see only a problems if you limit that they need to decide in less then 19 blocks. Basically you take final decision out of their hands. Or you could fork ASICs back in because you cannot figure out your dif adjustment, theoretically. There was a bug that resulted in the daemon not syncing in "safe-mode" (which hardens against blockchain corruptions) once it was fully synced. I am not entirely sure in which v0.12 version it was fixed though.

The other day I paid on a site with monero, I do not remember the address that was given to pay to me, but I'm 100% sure that what I entered when I was about to pay was the right one. I make the payment, I go to see on the site and was still awaiting payment
Where did you send this payment to? If it's a merchant / service / exchange, did you include a payment ID (or used an integrated address)?

I have recently downloaded the full wallet from getmonero. is there a minimum balance I need on that wallet?
The minimum balance is zero Put differently, a minimum balance is not required.

i have had some monero for a while but not keeping up to date with updating my GUI wallet. After updating to the newest wallet and recreating my wallet with my 25 words i cannot see my funds what to do?
A few questions first: 1. Could you post the full output of Show status (on the Settings page of the GUI)? 2. Do you have sufficient free disk space? 3. Which operating system are you using? 4. Which version of the GUI are you using? You can check on the Settings page under Debug info.

Hi can someone advice me, originally using GUI 11.0 on windows 10 (worked great). Tried updating to 12.0, but due to the issues with windows 10 (it kept freezing on me)I thought I'll just wait for 12.2.
Now i just downloaded GUI 12.2 for Windows 10 and it's working fine (no freezing). On opening my wallet I could see my balance great 😁, then the syncing begins and my balance disappears. I waited a couple of hours.......and I'm now synced but my balance still remains zero 😔.
Also tried remote node, but stilli have zero balance.
Can anyone please help me.
thanks PN
Do you see any unauthorized outgoing transaction on the History page of the GUI? ^^^--- this unfortunately sounds like your issue if remote nodes give the same result. Did you try to get one of the scam forks? Thanks dEBRUYNE & Hueristic For the response, I've seemed too have solved the issue, I went to settings-manage wallet- closed wallet, then reopened wallet from file, and my balance has appeared🙂. The small issue I have now is when trying to send monero from my wallet, I'm unable to paste address? Do I have too manually input sending address, if I remember correctly 11.0 & below allowed me to paste address? Regards PN You can paste an address with CTRL + V.

What is the equation of amount of XMR mined per block? I found this. But by any number of A, the amount of mined coins per block is way too less. For example now the current circulation is about 16 000 000 XMR, so by that the equation gives coins mined per block 0,00000000019073486328125 What I do not understand? What is the right formula? You have to multiply A with 10^12. In addition, the formula has to be multiplied by 2 to account for the block time change (from 1 minute blocks to 2 minute blocks). The formula is described in more detail here: https://getmonero.org/2017/12/11/A-note-on-fees.html

Thanks. This version opens up the monerod console with the GUI. IIRC, one of the early versions did this which had been fixed up to v0.12.0.0. It's a known bug, but it shouldn't impede the GUI from functioning properly.

This is a bug, which fortunately is fixed in this PR: https://github.com/monero-project/monero-gui/pull/1452A temporary work around is to either edit or delete the Monero related config file that is present in ~/.config. Note that the latter option will also delete any other persistent settings. Great to see there is a pull request already. And deleting the config file did the trick. Thanks dEBRUYNE, you are invaluable for Monero. You're welcome

How do I now switch to Mainnet? From a usability point of view, I would at least expect a third radio button called 'Mainnet' (but preferably would like to get rid entirely of Testnet and Stagenet in the default setup). Thanks.
