Simple question and yes, I have looked around.
Can I make a paper wallet (generated offline) and then recover it using MyMonero? Or just use the spend keys without a wallet?
I am on Mac and cannot use simple wallet, bitmonerod etc - I can't do terminal / command line stuff either.
I have tested sending a couple of XMR to an offline paper wallet and sure - it works, but just found I have no way of getting it back. I have all keys - but need to make a wallet to recover to - and I just can't.
Pointers appreciated as I really need to get my XMR offline and safe in as cold a storage method as poss. Apologies for being an idiot - but I cannot code and have never owned a PC...
Don't laugh and I know I shoudl look elsewhere, but I have spent hours and cannot find a simple solution (for me).
You can use this guide to securely generate an offline cold paper wallet: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/48cgmd/an_extensive_guide_for_securely_generating_an/Note that this guide is based on the guide magico linked (which was created by Fluffypony), but with a bit more explanation, videos, and screenshots of all the steps. And yes, you can recover it using MyMonero. However, it will cost you a 10 XMR import fee.

how can I send my last 5 XMR from my simplewallet? Every time I try it says not enough coins due to tx fee and mixin.
I'd like to empty my wallet but it seems I need to keep at least 4 for mixin purposes... Can anyone lend a hand?
Which version are you using? The command, which has to be entered into simplewallet, is as follows: transfer 4 <address> <amount> [<payment ID>] The payment ID is between brackets as well because it is optional. I know how to send, the problem is my last 5. No matter what I try, the amount I try to send is too high. It says I have an unlocked balance on 5.34 XMR, and I put in: Transfer <poloaddress> 2 <ID> But it still says in red text there's not enough coins for mixin. Did you perhaps mine to that wallet? If so, you probably have a lot of tiny (possibly unmixable) inputs (dust). Try sweep_unmixable first to undust your dust and subsequently try to send again.

Hi I need help. Today I sold some Monero and I used shapeshift. The first 2 transaction went through fine but the third transaction wasn't recognized by shapeshift. 1. The Monero is gone from my balance 2. I used simplewallet 3. When I check the payment id of the first 2 transactions I can find them on http://moneroblocks.info/ but NOT the third. Did something go wrong? Simplewallet says the transaction was send and the Monero are subtracted from my balance. I am sure I type the correct payment id Thanks in advance, I can provide payment ids but am not sure whether that leaks information from me? How can I find the transaction id in simplewallet? Regarding bolded, I assume the transaction doesn't show up in the blockchain, right? If so, use rescan_spent in simplewallet. I'd advise against posting payment IDs here, since some information can be derived from them. Use "show_transfers" in simplewallet to find transaction ID. Thanks for the help. I found the tx id's of the 3 transactions and indeed the first two can be found via http://moneroblocks.info/ and the last one cannot. When I run rescan_spent though and subsequently run show_transfers the transaction is still there though. BTW: I'm still 1149 blocks behind. Can that be a problem? Could you let the blockchain fully sync first and try rescan_spent thereafter? If that doesn't work, try rescan_bc. Ok I'll try that. Thanks, hopefully this will make my Monero re-appear. BTW: Any idea on the reason a Monero transaction would go wrong like this and not appear in the blockchain? Check MoneroMooo's comment above yours.

@xxxgoodgirls: importing a spendkey into MyMonero isn't possible, as far as I know. You could try to login with your public address, viewkey, and spendkey. That might work.
Thank you for your response. I managed to transfer XMRs despite not having full synced my client (thought it was a requirement). I really don't know why but bitmonerod lags as hell my laptop as it is taking more than 3 hours and have not finished yet to complete 25 days of historical. Do you have an HDD or an SSD? If it is the former it may explain the scenario you're experiencing.

Can I import an old private key into mymonero web wallet?
I do not believe this is possible. You will probably need to run simplewallet with the argument --restore-deterministic-wallet *edit* Can someone explain: How do you spend funds from a spend key with simplewalet if all you have is the spend key and nothing else? I'd like to know also, I got some old original wallets from May 2014 - how do I update those to latest version wallets with full seed phrase and/or cold wallets. How do you get private keys from the key file? Make sure you are still on the same OS as where the wallet was created in 2014. If you are on the same OS, you can simply download the new simplewallet version and the wallet will automatically upgrade. After that, you can extract your viewkey and spendkey with the "viewkey" and "spendkey" command. However, given that those wallets are non deterministic, you won't be able to get a seed. If you want a wallet with a seed, you should create a new wallet and send the funds to the new wallet. @xxxgoodgirls: importing a spendkey into MyMonero isn't possible, as far as I know. You could try to login with your public address, viewkey, and spendkey. That might work. @anon136: currently (newer wallets) the viewkey is derived from the spendkey. Thus, if you only have the spendkey, you can derive the viewkey and subsequently use "--restore-from-keys". However, if you have an early wallet (which is non deterministic), the viewkey and spendkey are independent of eachother. I know I have asked a few times about a paper wallet but wanted to be absolutely sure.A paper wallet from moneroaddress is what I would be using for long term storage until there is a GUI. The plan is: Download the zipfile and be disconnected from the internet. https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generatorGenerate wallet. Write down the mnemonic seed. Also, the public address, spend and view key. Then just send from Poloniex and should be able to sleep better at night. What if I just print them out, chances are small that it can get compromised from the printer? Its an Epson, 2-3 years old. Also, monero being anonymous, I cant check my balance like with a bitcoin paper wallet. I know that you can check for any transactions to an address, but what site? Sorry for being repetitive. I'd advise you to follow this guide. It answers your questions and gives you a safe cold storage wallet: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/48cgmd/an_extensive_guide_for_securely_generating_an/re: printer. If you don't trust that one, simply buy a new one for your seeds only. Printers aren't that expensive.

https://mymonero.com/ ever compromised? I deposited more than 10K xmr on mymonero last year, I forgot the last time I logged-in my wallet, it's been a long time. but today, I logged-in and found all xmr was stolen on yesterday, I have no idea how the hacker steal my xmr... Any advice for me? Please lay out screenshots, for without them, little hard to believe. vphen is in contact with me, can confirm that it appears his Monero was swiped. This is not the first time this has happened, previous instances have resulted from bad Tor exit nodes, rootkits, private keys stored in Word documents, and other malware that targets Monero. Suffice it to say, if the DNMs are waking up to Monero's usefulness now, malware authors have been aware of it for a while (see: the botnets that have been mining Monero for a couple of years already). PLEASE treat MyMonero as you would a normal wallet. If you would only carry $150 comfortably in cash in your actual wallet, then you should only keep like 40 XMR in your MyMonero wallet. For cold storage, use MoneroAddress or simplewallet offline on an air-gapped computer, and follow the instructions that have been detailed before.Hijacking this to post the guide link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/48cgmd/an_extensive_guide_for_securely_generating_an/
