This is the pain and FUD we've been waiting for. I predict we will hit a new USD ATH within 90 days. That means end of September.

It won't matter for most of us if it's still down vs BTC, cos most of us bought XMR with BTC.  I'm actually down a lot tbh.  It would've been way better for me if I just held BTC.

So you're saying if Monero hit $10k USD it wouldn't matter because you would've made more by staying in BTC? By that logic you will never be satisfied with your investments, because there will always be something you could've done to gain more profit.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

One of the main goals of Tari is Monero success. Fluffypony emphasized this in his latest presentation on Tari & Monero, which I strongly recommend to watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmeSSnppixY

Additionally, he did not leave Monero. He is still actively participating in Monero's development.

Kind of like one of the main goals of Ticketmaster is the US dollar's success?  Please, it's a private company.  I'm glad it exists but let's not get carried away.

Did you actually watch the presentation? Furthermore, Tari will be merge-mined with Monero. The bigger Monero's market cap, the more secure the chain will be (which thus benefits Tari).

Maybe not in actual practice but FP made a specific fuss about peeling off the do his company thing. And stepping down etc.

Also all you guys went off to another forum (I know you are always here working hard - you had most of my merits over the years for it)

Most traffic is currently present on Reddit (r/monero for normal discussion and r/xmrtrader for investing / trading discussion). As far as I can see, this is simply a side-effect of people preferring Reddit over Bitcointalk nowadays. The latter has arguably also lost a lot of traffic over the years. Thus, I don't think the lower activity here is on purpose.

thanks for answering some points. And I'm hoping I haven't offended you.

I think perception is more important than reality. ie the way people see something.

I did wait up to see his speech towards the end of the conference the other day.

I think the best thing going on is the work in the core making Monero more accessible and integrable to other projects and uses. Hurrah to that.

I miss those  days when we were worth fighting against. Maybe its me who needs to move on.

One of the few Monerians still here, though there are several high profile "2nd coin" supporters, who will back me up from time to time or spare me some abuse.

1 or 2 nasty people have really spoiled this place and they post unchecked because we have no mods for our stuff. I just have to bare through it.

Posted as an impartial messenger, which means don’t presume I agree with the choice of wording or even the points made. Nevertheless the forum benefits from hearing all sides of an argument.

Quote from: that guy

When do you think they will figure out that a stable coin will never replace altcoin gambling? Price go up is the game. Price go sideways is never going to replace price go up. Furthermore, do they ever wonder why the "better" stable coins such as GUSD haven't replaced tether? Pull at that thread and you'll realize that no only will facebook coin not replace alt-coins, but it won't even replace tether.  The market will eventually figure this out, but the memes are slow and the herd is dumb. Bitcoin maximalists are incorrigible.

You ostensibly did not even read the link that was provided, which refutes everything you wrote.

1. Libra is not a stable coin in the same way that Tether et al are. Libra is not a peg. It is backed with 4 major reserve currencies actually held in reserve, not a peg.

2. The reason Libra adoption will skyrocket is because of the strong dollar vortex due to the enveloping global sovereign debt crisis. The peripheral currencies will be crashing. Thus individuals within these nations will disobey their governments and choose to hodl Libra instead of their local currencies, because they will receive significant appreciation by doing so. We are headed into hyperstagflation in terms of local currencies of most nations.

3. Core BitcOn (and thus all of the cryptocosm) will be crashing due to the SegWit donations attack probably after May 2020. Libra will be the only thing the billions of people will trust. This is not an endorsement of the lack of trustlessness in Libra. Rather it is a recognition of the diabolical plan that is being successfully hoisted on the world. You should read the link that was provided so you can learn more.

4. The West will have a strong incentive to support Libra in the battle against China and China’s Belt&Road Initiative influence in the developing world. The Yuan is not one of the reserve currencies of Libra. Libra is a Trojan Horse. Eventually the powers-that-be will back it with (the real) Bitcoin after everyone thinks Bitcoin died. Lol. So many retards are going to be fleeced in this 666 plan.

Please read citations before commenting, otherwise you make yourself an idiot in the eyes who have taken the time to read and learn.

Libra replacing shitcoins is an amusing narrative.

Libra will replace many coins, but not Monero and Bitcoin.

5. Monero is as useless as I predicted it would be. I was entirely vindicated (c.f. also).

Millennials have plenty of money. And Gen Z that grow up with internet is right behind them.

Disagree:

https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/student-debt/millennial-student-debt-is-1-crisis/

They often have to move back in with their parents after college with fine arts degree. A small segment of them with STEM degrees had some money (e.g. programmers) but the ones gullible enough to be gamble on altcoins have ostensibly already been fleeced.

The developing world will latch onto to Libra which is something they can actually recommend to be people without becoming a crackpot in the eyes of their family and friends.

...  Hyping the drone thing makes all of you look desperate tbh.

No one is hyping drones, except maybe gembitz on his own way.  Drones were most abstract thing that was presented on second day of the MoneroKon. There was plenty other new and good things presented that day, but this drones were something that at least to me was most interesting. Since was a bit crazy tech idea. It caused a lot of skepticism and still does. There is almost a year until it happens. So a lot of time. If it happens, this will for sure attract a lot of media coverage. By fundamentals it should not influence Monero price in anyway, but who knows what media coverage will do.

Private companies exist to make profit.  What Tari does for Monero is that they will spend their founds to develop open source code that could be latter on copy pasted to Monero. At least the concept since it uses different program language. That is huge and Monero needes more such projects.

Monero is one of the best privacy coins out there. I am waiting for a bull run for Monero.
But we need some good reasons for Monero to start a bull run.

Yes, I watched it there, live. I was surprised I didn't see you at the conference. All the other Reddit moderators were in attendance Smiley

Can't really copy-paste from Rust to C++, as you have acknowledged. Hence the push to migrate Monero to Rust, which I think would be a great way to alienate the existing contributor base.

There's no such push as far as I can see.

The strength of Monero is fading away slowly. Although security and privacy is the key factor of the altcoin as there are several competitors in that space. Additionally, Monero is more of a transactional kind of cryptocurrency, and no one really wishes to hold it for long.

Nice cherry pick, Tard.

As expected, the strength of Monero is fading away slowly. Although security and privacy is the key factor of the altcoin as there are several competitors in that space. Additionally, Monero is more of a transactional kind of cryptocurrency, and no one really wishes to hold it for long. However, the coin has strong community support and will soon bounce back.

BTW, that is called plagiarism and can get you banned, but you did embed the link.

Auction for the first ever funded XMR giftcard has started.
Place your bid for one of the low numbered cards #1 through 10 (from 128 total): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5160950.0

With current low XMR prices this is a steal.
Personally I would be very suprised to see Monero below 0.01 BTC for too long. In the mid/long term I see it more in the 1/50th to 1/20th price range of Bitcoin.
The reason is simple: A need for a fungible and truely private crypto will increase with adoption and awareness.

Get educated about Bitcoin. Check out Andreas Antonopoulos on Youtube. An old but gold talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc744Z9IjhY

Cross Post from WO.

https://coinjazeera.news/peter-brandt-dies-of-old-age-in-longest-trade-ever/

Quote
Mr. Brandt had just opened a 25x long on BitMEX when he suffered a massive coronary heart attack after watching YouTube and seeing Tone Vays draw the worst ascending triangle he had ever seen in his life. The wave of anger at Tone Vays’ incompetence triggered the old man’s right coronary artery to literally explode as he clutched his chest and moaned “You stupid bafoon! That’s not a triangle that’s an ascending wedge” before collapsing to the ground while the other residents around him barely looked up from their bingo game and soiling their Depends.

Dat daylight mode though!!  Shocked

Also, I’m sure it’s been talked about before somewhere else, but I’m guessing the plan is to eventually have Model One support for the trezor too at some point?

As long as it has sufficient resources to support Monero, yes.

I updated things on my nano S. All went smooth. Was tempted to buy Model T, but then will just have to keep two different hardware wallets development and updates. So I will give it a bit more thinking Smiley

Anyway is great Monero can be now stored on two hardware wallets.  Two years ago that was a dream.
