121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: This ones really got me stumped on: October 28, 2020, 12:04:26 AM
I am not sure how you managed to get your transaction stuck with such a high fee, but it has been sent and confirmed 4 times as of 29 minutes ago since I posted this.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halloween inspired poll –would your Bitcoins get passed on if you suddenly died? on: October 28, 2020, 12:01:22 AM
Huh, a lot of different stories, of all ages (from what I can guess) with a lot of different answers here. Cheesy

This question came to my mind recently after I came into realization that my Bitcoin as well as other crypto holdings are no longer small.

My mission this year has been to make my whole family as well as close friends learn about Bitcoin, a mission that I have failed to say the least due to COVID and some other complications. However, during next year, I will finish what I started.

My plan is to give every one of them a hardware wallet with "small amount" of BTC for their birthdays and start from there. Then I'd teach them where to sell it as whole (hardware wallet included) and to check how much is it exactly worth so they do not get low-balled.

After that, I'll probably start teaching them how software wallet works, how to send bitcoin, how to cash them out on exchanges and how to store them securely. Most of them are already aware of Bitcoin as it's been about 5 years since I started blabbering about it (and never stopped).

However, as of right now, if I were to die (which I am already ready for in contrary to many here, even though I might be one of the younger here), all my BTC would be lost and that would be a waste to say, but at least I'd be happy laying in ground, knowing that I influenced a future price of BTC as there will be a bit less left in circulation Cheesy.
123  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: October 27, 2020, 10:48:15 PM
Thank you for the invite. I've read almost all interviews (I focused mostly on those of people I know and are big in community).

1. When and why did you become interested in cryptocurrencies?
Cryptocurrencies peaked my interest back in 2015. They were not that popular back then, but they were quite more popular than they were when it all began. I read about Bitcoin in an article and I instantly wanted to know more about it.

2. When and why did you buy your first bitcoin?
If by "first bitcoin" you mean whole bitcoin, I never bought it. I've bought at most 0.5 BTC during the years, and rest of my now much bigger portfolio has been mined and traded up.

3. How did you get on the forum?
I am not particularly sure what brought me to forum, one of my first posts would reveal that information, but my guess would be that Antminer S9 custom firmware or search for seller of same unit would have brought me here.

4.1. What prevents mass adoption of cryptocurrencies?
Lack of knowledge, media control, lack of interest, a pile of information every user has to know before they can use it seamlessly and many more things. But surely media is the biggest part of it.

4.2. How do you think mass advertising of gambling projects has a positive effect on the development of the forum or harms the community?
It doesn't have a big impact in my opinion, but I doubt it will ever have positive effect.

4.3.What is better for mining: ASICs, video cards, FPGA?
Depends on needs of miner.
ASICs are much more risky, prone to failure (especially Antminer 17 series), harder to resell in some cases and they loose their value really fast. However, they bring much more money and they are much more fun to fiddle with.
GPUs are much more of a safe bet. They are not that easy to brake, they rarely come DOA and they are easy to resell and do not lose their value as fast as ASICs. They are profitable but not as much as ASICs.

5. What do you think of the current Merit system and signature campaigns?  Do they harm the forum?
Not necessarily, I think they are a good side of forum.

6. The most useful forum topic? Most helpful users?
The most useful topic would be hard to choose. There is a lot of them that are objectively useful, but my choice would probably be too subjective.
Phil would be my first choice for most helpful user as I encounter him A LOT, but that again is a subjective choice.
After that there is a big list of names which I could name but here are a few:
Taserz
mikeywith
VirosaGITS
OgNasty
LoyceV

7. 3 things you would implement on the forum?
I do not have the knowledge that could help this forum. Theymos does a seemingly good job.

8. Do you trade on exchanges or invest in projects?
Rarely, I mostly sell highs and buy lows, but otherwise I am hodler.

9. Tell a story about your big profit or big loss?
Huh, that would probably be my investment in ETH back in December of 2018 at 90$ which turned to almost x5 when I cashed out a few days ago at 410$. It was a big gain for me. I do not really play with small coins or ICOs as I do not deem them to be worth my time. But I would have probably had much more luck with much bigger gains and losses if I did invest in them.

10. What do you think about the DEFI ecosystem?
I do not really have formed opinion about it since I haven't really had time nor interest to look into it.

11. Is your anonymity a vital necessity or precaution?
It is mostly a precaution but still there are a few forum members which know my real name and address but I try to be as anonymous as possible.

12. The last cryptocurrency book you read?

I haven't really read any books about crypto.

13. Advise 3 cryptocurrencies/tokens for investment in the next 1-2 years?

My always go to crypto would be ZEC, BTC and ETH. I mostly flip them and I am satisfied with my earnings on them.

14. How much will Bitcoin cost at the end of 2020?
Circa $15k

15. P.S. (Optional)
I might edit/add some things this week as this week is quite busy for me.

So I built an AMD Ryzen 3900 put in 1 amd 5700 and loaded teamveiwer.

I will use it to run the Verizon gear via TeamViewer I will also mine it  it make 2-3 bucks a day.

Are you using free version or are you paying for commercial one?

I think commercial is close to 50 a month.

I could drop all my simple mining ⛏ which is 30 a month

go all windows and spend 50 a month on commercial teamviewer.

I may do this but in 2021.

50 a month lets me run 200 pcs

Yeah, they are a tad crazy with pricing, I just wish there was some smaller package than 28e a month. I might buy the 58e a month package for company if we move everything to online due to COVID, otherwise I wouldn't be able to justify the purchase.
125  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Српски (Serbian) on: October 27, 2020, 07:35:02 PM

Nista izracunacu.

Mislim da ti automatski i oni izracunaju, verovatno i pise koliko ce tacno stici.

Smiley

Preporucio bih ti Exodus wallet.

126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regulation Coin Mixers on: October 27, 2020, 02:56:07 PM
According to the FAQ I read on chipmixer, they do mix coin and hand over the private key of the coin to the person that want use their mixing service. I think the private key will be generated in a way it will not be manipulated and only you will be able to check and see it. Correct me if I am wrong. Although, there are different ways mixers can mix bitcoin.
Back when Casascius coins were produced, there was a big issue surrounding physical coins: how and why should we trust a coin mint printing private keys, when the mint generated the keys itself?

If a website gives you a private key to an address that has already been generated and filled with some coins, you can't trust them for "hiding the keys after generating them" or something like that. They owned them before you do, so they may as well still own them if that makes sense. I really do need an input from someone else though: does this count as non-custodial, as soon as you also have the privkeys?

I think this is a nice suggestion, but I know about Dash and Zcash too, they are cryptocurrencies that can not be tracked, any wallet that provide decentralized exchange is good enough for this.
The XMR vs DASH vs XZC debate regarding privacy is a big headache and pretty subjective tbh. Dash and Zcash, AFAIK, have optional privacy. That's a double-edged sword. Theymos has posted a Reddit reply to someone's thread which is a pretty interesting read - so is this post about Dash's privacy features. They're quite old though, and things might've significantly changed since then.

Additionally, a lot of Zcash users are not even using that optional privacy that is offered.

For mixers, I'd say that deciding factor is how they generate those private keys and if (as well as HOW) they get rid of those private keys. I'd say it's all automated, and that would make it non-custodial exchange. If on other hand, they save those private keys somewhere or if someone can access them that would make it custodial exchange.

I agree, this might make me OC some units again that I downclocked for efficiency. Price-wise, I expect it to rise again before end of year, but not further than 15k.

Nisam ih koristio i buni me sto nema nigde BTC deposit adrese.

Jel koristis advcash? Koliko vidim za sve kartice je "Not available in your country". Kako onda konvertujes u realan kesh?

Hvala brate.

130  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ (70TH) Hashchain missing (but not always) on: October 27, 2020, 02:27:28 PM
I wouldn't say that used one may have shorter lifespan. It's actually luck based and your new one might break in a month while used one keeps working for years to come. You cannot really predict it.

I'd personally go with 3/3 of used one if it has been used in normal conditions and if it is 100% working stable for 48h+. Otherwise I'd go with Phil's suggestion. Also, if new one has warranty is an additional game changer.

Since beginning of cold weather, my S17+ started acting up as well. I kept loosing the same two boards over and over again after 12h+ of working perfectly every day. When I looked into him, I checked data cables, tried different combinations, checked heatsinks and found that only 2 specific hashboards are making problems even thought they never went past 80C nor have they been making problems for previous 1 year. Therefore, I went to check PSU and found that one PSU fan is not even turning. My assumption is that PSU is making my boards fail. But I am not sure why would it target only 2 specific ones (even though I tried putting them in different data cable ports as well as different PSU clips. I will revert back once I change PSU if anyone is interested.

132  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: October 27, 2020, 11:09:07 AM
Has anyone experienced what a Bitmain repair costs?
If I add the verand, is it better to simply order 3 new hashboards?

I did, I've posted it in multiple threads by now. My S17 Pro was RMA-ed twice, once in warranty period and once outside of it. Hashboards were dying both time. It cost me 60$ for repair and around 300$ for shipping from Serbia to Netherlands.

Sometimes it's not just hashboards so it's hard to fix. But if you have good offer for hashboards, I'd try buying them.

134  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Српски (Serbian) on: October 26, 2020, 08:47:22 PM

135  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Српски (Serbian) on: October 21, 2020, 10:12:10 AM

Kako si ti regulisao to Micro? Koliko se secam ti cak imas i neku firmu, zar ne?
______________________________________________________________________________

I would be happy to take it off your hands if you are willing to give a good quote with shipping to Serbia, Europe.

And of course, if Phil would escrow the trade.
137  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: October 17, 2020, 09:11:09 AM
I've swapped the power supplies. But the problem is the same.

I also removed all 3 boards and checked them visually, but I couldn't find any abnormalities.

I could still try to swap the control board, but I think that doesn't help either.

What else can I do useful with the miner?

Sadly, your only viable choice would be RMA.

Control board is rarely the problem, you ruled out PSU which I already doubted would be the problem as I had similar problem.

The problem lies within the hashboards, and there is not much you can do.

Since ever i guess.

Maybe you are confusing Kano pool with Cksolo pool. Have you actually tried to mine on solo.ckpool.org using Vnish and were not able to connect?
Yeah, just ignore me. Tested now. Works fine.
