what does it matter if somebody calls it money and somebody else doesnt, isnt this purely semantics.

those who understand its usefulness will use it (as we are doing) in peer to peer transactions. those who dont see the usefulness wont.

who gives a shit if soembody does not want to call it money. i would be happy if it wasnt called money any way, leave that to wall street and treasury crooks.

if it is not classed as money and i can take payment for services in it i wont be paying taxes with it and that makes me 20% richer straight away for using bitcoins.

Optimal strategy for a single player:

1. Buy (or mine) Bitcoins as early as possible.
2. Convince others that Bitcoin is a viable currency and encourage them to start using BTC for their transactions.
3. Watch the economy grow and the price of BTC go up.
4. Sell your BTC for profit.
5. Employ some trolls to trash the community and spread FUD.
Repeat the cycle

No one has created a decentralized digital system of highly marketable, directly serviceable goods, yet.  I suspect one will be created soon.

namecoin fits that criteria. http://dot-bit.org

edit: i geuss whether namecoin is "highly marketable" remains to be seen at this point.
124  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: backdoor-merged-mining with cheating miners on: October 10, 2011, 09:49:02 AM
I think this will be bad for namecoin protocol as well as the miners being cheated.

I read somewhere that bitcoin has been declared a curency overlay by one of the European countries. I dont remember who but it was only a couple of weeks ago.

and again!

magico bump!

strange, not sure if it is a problem.

i was mining btc / nmc prop. but received GG and NMC. i am not really interested in GG and wasnt expecting them. However, I am showing a negative balance for BTC of -2.7755575615628914e-17.

what this about?

128  Economy / Economics / Re: Why not do this? on: October 09, 2011, 10:44:03 PM
Because the government wants to sell it's bonds to the Fed and monetize it's debt.  It has nothing to do with the good of the consumer.  The Fed's job isn't to stabilize prices.  It's just to steal from the consumer in a controlled gradual way so that most people don't notice and don't freak out.

And also because every good is priced according to supply/demand which varies for each good individually, not specifically according inflation/deflation although obviously the latter will have a long term effect across the economy not only on the price level.
+1

inflation is taxation.

132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the client generate bitcoins automatically or is this something else? on: October 09, 2011, 06:29:21 PM
Ah really! I did mined at eligius and gave up because waiting for payments took so long. So this would make sense because i thought i had not been paid by them.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Does the client generate bitcoins automatically or is this something else? on: October 09, 2011, 06:07:28 PM
On a couple of occasions i have found some coins have appeared in my client the client says these have been generated. What are they?

this one today was only 0.00011 but a few weeks ago i had 0.32 appear. How can i get some more?

I fucking hate Windows 7.  Only because I don't use it so don't get the little changes still.  I have no access to the Application Data folder, and even so the icon is just shortcut to something else.  I was reading how Win7 changed the Doc and Settings to Users and other little changes, but it seems one of the changes is I have no actual Application Data folder.   Sorry guys to throw this in the thread, if anyone knows the quick easy way around whatever this is, thanks.  Otherwise I guess I will just make a master .conf file to copy and paste to every directory till the right one is found :p

I'll be throwing this on an XP machine I guess, but I am curious about what changes Win7 made with all this shit, I am way late to finding all this out lol
do you have [show hidden files] selected in folder properties?
135  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Anyone ever seen a payout from merged mining? on: October 09, 2011, 08:41:41 AM
yep, had a couple of payouts. got some NMC at nmcbit.com not BTC there though. I am still comparing pools to find most rewarding.

simplecoin.us credited me with GG and NMC for the last block found even though i was only mining BTC/NMC. dont know how that works and dont know how to get rid of them GG yet. I only really want NMC/BTC.
136  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mistake on: October 08, 2011, 11:34:58 PM

137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So ... Namecoin should be merged mined now. on: October 08, 2011, 11:31:48 PM
you dont need to run namecoind to merge mine you can use a bitcoin client at the merging pools.
138  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Merged Mining is here! PPS for NMC and BTC enabled [20+ GHs] on: October 08, 2011, 09:26:38 PM
