121  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 19, 2017, 10:52:39 PM
Let's change PoW so that anyone with moderate amount of capital can attack us, sounds like a great idea!

Agreed. You can hate ASICs, but they do provide a very robust network, very expensive to attack. Change of PoW would do more harm than good.

You are only agreeing on my prelude, I'm for using a PoW that run best on a chip that can do many other things.

The whole point of this thread is to find a replacement PoW not to argument whether it's a good or bad thing to do.
Oh ok, I missed that Smiley Sorry
122  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 19, 2017, 10:29:58 PM
I would never try to find a PoW that does anything useful but would consider what else the chip doing the PoW can do.

It was one of the reason why I was into Primecoin in it's beginning.

I'm no mathematician but I thought if you can produce an ASIC that find Cunningham Chain Of Primes, maybe that chip can do many different calculation that could be scientifically useful.

For the network to stay secure the PoW algorithm should not be "useful" for anything else. If the price of that other thing becomes higher in the future...the network loses hashrate.

Creating a decentralized payment network is useful enough by itself.

No need to be fancy, just triple SHA256 would be enough to change the current dynamic and not deviate too much from Satoshi's plan.

Aren't we repeating just another cycle: Change algo -> asics get developed at some point -> same problem again ?

Btw this coin implemented sha256t for some empirical evidence: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1801129.0

The same link above, the "OneCoin" has PoS with 0 block reward. Would such a solution be more feasible? PoS only might really not work, but if its complimented with PoW they make a good combination IMO.

But my real opinion is, don't change bitcoins fundamentals. The block size increase was planned by Satoshi anyway. Change of the proof of work algorithm was not and such a change would only lead to an "altcoin".

Bitcoins legacy is present in many altcoins, if you do not like Bitcoin then go devote your energy to an altcoin (like Vertcoin with its strong commitment to avoid ASICs and with that avoiding problems like this miner centralization).

bitcoin the protocol (the main thing behind Satoshis invention) is present in many of the altcoins, many up to date with Bitcoins codebase, even on the way of activating SegWit.

You will not betray Bitcoin if you do this, that's the point of a free market, if you do not like something, chose the alternative...

I assume Satoshi never wanted some fanatics fighting over this, if this means anything to you:
Code:
const char* pszTimestamp = "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks";

...the main point is to get away from this centralized systems, if you suspect Bitcoin is becoming one, go support another coin. That will make the miners think again and start caring more about their "customers".

IMHO

I have to admit the rules on this fundraising are not very clear. Can someone shed some light on this?

Example:

I have 100 SDC, I send them to the address generated on the dashboard and get 1:1 credit of PART. Ok this part is clear.

What about the BTC? Can I send 1000$ worth of bitcoin? Or just 0.15 $ worth of bitcoin per SDC? In this case 100 SDC -> 100 x 0.15 $ = 15$ worth of bitcoin??

Is the 0.15 $ bitcoin bonus in any way connected to the amount of SDC already deposited?

This is really not clear...

Edit: The way it reads right now on the FAQ is like this:
Quote
For every 1 SDC you donate you will receive credit for 1 Particl. For the first 5 days, if you choose to additionally donate $0.15 worth of Bitcoin you will receive 15% bonus credit in Particl.

I can send 100000 SDC for example, receive 100000 PART. Then send 0.15 $ of bitcoin (0.0001489 BTC atm) and get 15000 PART.

That is just ridiculous...

If you have 100 SDC ... first send in your 100SDC. That covers you for 1:1 SWAP so 100 SDC = 100 PART
Once deposited and the transaction shows up in the portal, you will get a 24hour counter to send X BTC PREMIUM for 15% of the 100 SDC i.e. 15 PART for $15 (first five days, after which this will change depending on variable based on market price). The choice to take the premium is yours and expires after 24 hours.

Hope that makes it clear.

Thank you! Much clearer.

Did you create an account and see how it works? Why not?

They are creating SDC number + 15% PART = 7,640,000 PART...
So 100% of SDC will be "converted"... maybe a tiny rump network will keep running with "community" Devs... so what?

I did create an account, but there is not any more info there...

The 0.15$ does not make any sense. They should update the FAQ to make it more clear. The txfee for BTC is higher than 0.15$, I am not even going to test a deposit until some clarification is given...

i try edit sgminer
sometime accepted,

Ooh nice! Is that also with AMD?

Hm, how did you do it? I attempted this a while ago for blake2s but got stuck at the kernel part. I tried modifying the Sia coin kernel I think, but did not get far...

The fact remains that the majority are happy with the news and think this is a fantastic move for the project. Be responsible and research all the facts. This community has never sprung any kind of scam on anyone, ever. Treat it as such at your own peril. follow vtr99 at your own peril

I agree. The migration to the newer bitcoin codebase is great. From the technical perspective this coin will have a bright future IMO.

131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SDC] ShadowCash | Welcome to the UMBRA on: March 18, 2017, 09:37:56 AM
This was obviously a manipulated dump so certain people can get cheap coins.

You can not buy PART (the particl token/coin) without SDC. The added BTC is only a bonus. You can not buy part only with BTC.

SDC              -> PART WORKS
SDC + BTC   -> PART WORKS
BTC               -> PART DOES NOT WORK

I expect this market to go bananas in the next 10 hours...

I heard something about an announcement today ... Any news?

Those must be some bad news coming, the market duped SDC like a joke lol Cheesy

why is so many orphaned blocks in PoS in my wallet?

You can consider that normal behavior Smiley You are not the only one staking...
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][OC] ONECOIN | NO PREMINE | FAIR LAUNCH | SHA256 TRIPLE on: March 16, 2017, 05:24:22 PM
You're crazy typing that @krile, but thanks for confirming  Cheesy Grin
It seems I'm in a predicament.. I get about 100OC per day if both my cards are in pool, or about 50 from one card and luck will give or take the rest.. Will go with solo on the GTX1070OC another day to see if the gods are with me or not :p
I was curious Smiley Congratulations on your two blocks btw, hope there are more coming your way Wink

Any ideas why the price is climbing so much? Did I miss something? Cheesy
manipulation only

Part of it must also be that a lot of altcoins have more activity recently...

Who would go manipulate this kind of coin though? The volume has been sustained for more than two weeks...

In regards to solo mining, how long does it take for the reward to show up in the wallet? 250 blocks? Or will it show up as unconfirmed or something earlier?

I've solo mined with a HD7990 for about 7 hours using sgminer-oc last night (00-07) and then on a GTX1070 with ccminer-2.0-rc2 for about 9 hours (08-17). When I got home from work (now, at around 17:00) I saw two rewards of 50 in my wallet:

If 250 blocks takes about 1250min=21h (~5 min per block of pow) it seems too early to show up now. If the timestamp is when it was found, but not yet matured/verified complelty (hence the brackets '[' ']'), it seems that sgminer-oc isn't working for solo-mining.. 7990 has more or less the same hash as 1070 in my two machines (sgminer-oc vs excavator)
you found 2 blocks with 1 gpu?
It does seem like it to me. I have seen that I've found a few blocks in the pool from time to time when I mined in a pool. My AMD7990 still mines to a pool now since it didn't seem to find any with sgminer-oc.
Anyone else might confirm or tell me I'm way off.. first time I've solo mined with gpu miner to wallet.

Update: Checked debug log:

Code:
2017-03-15 10:21:04 CheckWork() : new proof-of-work block found
 proof hash: <hash>
... (lots of info I don't understand the half of, hashes and stuff
2017-03-15 10:21:04 generated 50.00002
Find this twice. Time is UTC, my computer is UTC+1

how solo mining on GTX1070 ?
See #547: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1801129.msg18180194#msg18180194

Yes you found two blocks. You just have to wait for them to mature 250 blocks.

You can check the addresses where the coinbase 50 OC were generated on block explorer to confirm:

1st: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/oc/address.dws?1Hh5qmWohPxFwgDJGqXjgj2fRCtWxBw6bL.htm
2nd: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/oc/address.dws?13LspncAkReJG6qyU7voB79qcXmNPpPQH5.htm
(yes I manually typed in those addresses from your screenshot Cheesy )

I wish someone would give any hints regarding solo with sgminer. My nvidia cards are too weak for solo :/

dev, PM me if you need another seed node added for your next release. Its not much work for me and I like these kind of (non ICO/premine) honest initiatives Smiley

Hey brother! Thanks so much! I completely overlooked that.

Glad to see you stopped by as I am (obviously now) a big fan of NEVA.

No problem, if you need any help let me know.

Just be careful with this, it will fork the chain. So pick a good far ahead block number so everyone has enough time to update.

At least you don't have to deal with yobit yet so one less problem regarding updates lol Cheesy

Hey bro, I updated the ann with the correct values, if you don't mind, I don't mind. I don't think honey miners mind...

I don't mind at all. The chain will just bloat very fast...5 times as fast to be exact Smiley

If I could relaunch nevacoin I would also pick at least 5 minutes, I am actually thinking about increasing the block time there. Makes no sense to have so many blocks empty.

But if honey finds 60seconds sweeter thats fine with me lol Cheesy
