121  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Deposit is fucked up... What CENTRALIZED database bullshitt do they use on: February 03, 2023, 01:11:17 AM
Imagine going to a bank, deposit 20 euro , you come home , AND it is NOT deposited!!

This CANNOT be the case today...
Banks have kinda been known for this though - losing deposits, mistaking transfers etc...

If it doesn't work...   LOSE IT!   DUMP IT...

BTC works!   Binace Doesn't!  (SEEMS TO BE..)  don't get me wrong...

Why not use a DEX (like Bisq <- there are others but Bisq seems to be the safest for now)? They seem to be going up in liquidity too and they'll have a lot fewer problems than centralised exchanges do.

122  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can Clipboard malware affects phone users? on: February 02, 2023, 06:46:51 PM
Android and IOS has a unique security system which doesn’t allowed virus to enter its core. Correct me if I’m wrong but the reported virus affecting an android or ios device is very rare unless you root your phone that unlock all features of the phone break it’s main security.

Imo it could happen if you open an app and it injects it onto your clipboard (such as a game) but you'd likely have to have opened the game between copying the address and opening your wallet.

Android and iOS share the methods of Linux in stopping apps from accessing the operating system unless the user has let them run in the background or has opened them on the screen.

Clipboards are normally stored on keyboards though so the biggest ways to attack this vulnerability are via infected keyboards and wallet related apps.
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the black swan event not to be expected anymore? on: February 02, 2023, 05:27:21 PM
I'm fairly sure I fell asleep on that day when the price was at $8/$6k and woke up the next morning with the price at $5k, if you think that's something you can time well then go ahead with that thought but there's probably a decent chance you can't (I don't think it took too long to recover either). You also then need the resolve to buy a falling asset (and potentially watch it keep falling). If you were awake and online at $4/$5 when you bought, would you have coped with turning $5k to $3k over the course of an hour if you were monitoring it very diligently.

We might not even see a crash on that level either unless the stock markets crash too (like they did last time). There's a lot of strategies you could use and there's probably a lot of people on the sidelines with a bit of money waiting to buy events like that to make a quick profit but I don't think that's money you'll then be able to continue holding in your investment either (and would probably sell most of it when you think you've made a good profit expecting the same event to happen again).
124  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - take profits or continue to DCA? on: February 02, 2023, 05:18:01 PM
Are you DCAing with too much? If you're DCAing with so much every month that it's becoming noticeable and something you feel like you have to keep actively manage, you should probably consider reducing the amount you put in (if it's an affordable amount you're DCAing with, why are you so concerned and why can't you do another smaller one in altcoins)?

Are you staking those altcoins too? A lot of places where you can stake/obtain yield from the coins that are down are offering very high yields (I've seen 60% on SOL) it looks like you're taking quite a big risk if you're not looking to stake but are wanting to invest in those coins - and if that comes as news to you, you probably shouldn't be investing in things without doing full research of them.
125  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin wallet users, have you ever? on: February 02, 2023, 05:06:45 PM
Additionally, since transactions on the bitcoin network aren't interacting with smart contacts, you can edit the fees to whatever you want (in a lot of cases, the lowest fee you can set will still get a confirmation - compared with eth which uses "gas" and can have smart contracts that fail if they're not executed fast enough).
126  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of China ex-advisor calls Beijing to reconsider crypto ban on: February 02, 2023, 03:45:05 PM
The prospect China has banned crypto to some people and hasn't banned it based on others' interpretations is a weird one. Did you notice the date was January 2022 too (not 2023)? I don't think it's still the case that a lot of crypto mining takes place in China.

You have to be a patient and purposeful person in order to fully continue to use the Internet, despite the bans and restrictions being introduced.

I am surprised there aren't underground groups that teach people how to do these things that aren't well known to the authorities. Similar to the sentiments of the OP, where I'm from it's fairly easy to find people dealing in things that are illegal (depending on the severity) also cannabis has often been called a gateway drug as it gives the user a contact to get stronger stuff from.
127  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you think will happen if... on: February 02, 2023, 03:32:20 PM
This has never happened in the history of modern day capitalism and I doubt they'll start now.

If all institutional investors do stay away from cryptocurrency though, it'll still end up doing as it would before. Most of the prices are set by the market (retail) and institutions buy around that price in private dealings - if there's less institutions to buy, there might be more demand from the sell side on the markets which could temporarily stunt growth but then the same lack of selling will happen as people expect the prices to go higher anyway/later.
128  Economy / Economics / Re: Berkshire Hathaway's Charlie Munger Calls for Crypto Ban in the US on: February 02, 2023, 03:26:26 PM
Surely the point in sounding negative is to get melleniels, boomers and gen x to give up on the idea of investing in cryptocurrency and move to investing in stocks.

"100% house edge" is also not something that makes sense. Did they try investing (with a tiny amount) at its peak and are now disappointed they've lost. Are they worried it gives a whole new precident on how people are more solvant than companies in the sector (ftx and others v retail investors). Warren Buffet does claim to prefer investments in the production of assets rather than investments in the underlying asset so it would make sense why they don't like bitcoin.

129  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto Mining Stocks on: February 02, 2023, 03:15:02 PM
But why bother investing in bitcoin mining stocks if you can just directly buy bitcoin itself? I mean you can't be sure if a mining company can sustain their business unless they have access to a cheaper electricity cost and cutting edge ASIC miners in which majority of them relies on these factors.

It could be that OP is on a hunt to build a portfolio that's tax shielded (it's something I and I think some others have been considering too).

I saw a thread on here recently about marathon, I don't know if they're directly invested in mining but they seem to be at the top of my Google results.

I think investing in crypto mining stocks takes on more risk than buying the crypto outright and might not give a large reward (like cloud mining firms getting liquidated - though they may actually have to deal with regulations and therefore do less speculating).

I'd also normally say diversification is the best risk management strategy but I think you'd only be able to put a small amount of funds in these stocks and then diversify with other stocks and/or buy bitcoin as well.
130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Offline Wallet on: February 01, 2023, 11:02:36 PM
Have you thought about airgapping (where you use another machine that stays indefinitely offline for storing and signing with keys and one online for broadcasting and building transactions)?

Aside from that, I'm not sure there's any other good way to do this without using a hardware wallet (it could be something you do while waiting for a hardware wallet though).
131  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Timed delay cancel transactions on: February 01, 2023, 06:38:49 PM
Yes, obviously I would do several test transactions first, but it comes to sending the $100 million chunk the transaction is still an  individual transaction. Therefore there is always the chance of human error. Once the bitcoin is sent. It is gone if there was a time delay more so away to cancel the transaction. Would mean if there was human error, the funds will not be lost in limbo.

No you don't need to do test transactions in this case you could just edit the time your transaction can confirm, sign it and then send the signed transaction to the other person/wallet and get it imported there so they can verify the funds credit that wallet before they're sent - either of you can broadcast that unsigned transaction too once the time it was signed for has passed.
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is it advisable to stay away from yield farming in a bear market? on: February 01, 2023, 03:38:39 PM
When you mention yield farming are you talking about AMM (adding funds to liquidity pools and making money out of that from things like fees and slippage) or are you talking about other defi products that get offered.

If it's the first, then I'd say now was probably the best time to start doing it and if you're ever going to make a profit, the time to invest would be at the lows of a bear market. You need to remember to claim your yield often enough though as the price of the token will start to fall as the return goes up (especially if there isn't new money in the space). This is more problematic when investing in coins said to "innovate" imo as they're going to do that for some time and then will likely gets its market cap diluted by the next innovation.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main Stream Media trying to defame Crypto / Bitcoin on: February 01, 2023, 03:28:43 PM
I was wondering why most of that article was behind a pay wall but its probabky because they don't have any good articles to put behind one... Their subscriptions also sound like a precursor to them becoming an mlm (pyramid or ponzi scheme) or something too (something crypto seems to be rid of for the most part).

Most articles that mention bitcoin are just tagged to get higher viewership (even good newspapers are normally mostly talking about web3 coins or exchanges/companies in crypto).
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Inquiries about Bitcoin Core on: February 01, 2023, 01:25:31 AM
It supports multisig but not 2FA or hardware.

There are applications you can run alongside bitcoin core that can handle 2fa or hardware wallets though (they might be unnecessary unless you care so much about privacy you don't want an external node linking your addresses).

135  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax Avoidance Possible legally with Bitcoin? on: January 31, 2023, 05:27:33 PM
You also have to live somewhere for long enough to be able to not be liable for the tax. For income, a lot of countries agree you pay tax on where you lived for 6 months of the year (the US and a few others don't).

If you become wealthy quickly and then plan to return, expect an investigation. They're not going to let you get a lot of money without seeing if you've made a mistake they can claim against in most cases (it's a fairly reasonable procedure though considering you were trying to avoid paying it anyway).
136  Other / Meta / Re: Hypothetical Btalk Forum App Version/ Social Media features? on: January 31, 2023, 05:21:43 PM
Aside from the notifications standpoint, I'm not sure it even needs an app.

Just someone who's good at writing mobile friendly CSS and someone who can use simple machines and knows how it functions. This might just be a simple machines issue too that it's taken so long to get a "mobile friendly" stylesheet.
137  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Should BTC amounts greater than 10.000E be declared when leaving the country? on: January 31, 2023, 05:14:36 PM
I think it depends on what your intentions are in the country you're travelling to. If you plan to use (unlock) your wallet while you're there then yes.

I found a Swedish travel site that says:
Quote
Besides notes and coins, “cash and equivalent assets” is also defined as traveller’s cheques, cheques, promissory notes, debt instruments, debentures, shares, money orders and securities.

https://www.tullverket.se/en/startpage/private/travelling/travelling/travellingwithcashandorequivalentassets.4.311bf4f016e69d6ea0d9df.html

I'm thinking bitcoin is closest related to cheques (and at that probably cashiers cheques or similar - when the cheque pays you - where it's money that represents legal tender but not officially issued by the government).

If you're not going to unlock your wallet or spend funds from it then I think it's unlikely you have to tell anyone. I also think you'd probably be safe unlocking your wallet to send funds to an exchange in your home country, converting your crypto to that currency and paying using your bank card for things (but you may be safer holding funds on an exchange as you travel as it'll be considered similar to a bank account then).
138  Economy / Speculation / Re: FED seem like the most powerful manipulator overall on: January 31, 2023, 05:02:20 PM
FED does not have tools to impact markets. They have a tool to make you think they have tools Smiley

But surely that means they have the tools to impact markets if they can impact enough people in those markets..

I think some price movements, similar to research, are driven by many people having similar ideas on what they expect at about the same time (and that's something that comes across from the crypto market). People don't really behave that rationally either a lot of the time so intentional manipulation is hard to spot and isolate.

An example of the above is how market prices don't go up by a stable amount over a long period of time. Instead, they go up and down ans find new neutral points as more money enters but fewer sells occur/are available (normally).
139  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Web Browsers begun to have inbuilt Cryptocurrency Wallets on: January 31, 2023, 04:53:04 PM
I think they're safer and more usable than adons/extensions like metamask. It's one wallet for multiple coins and usually includes a lot more web3 chains preinstalled than wallets like metamask do.

It cuts down the chance of you being phished and Opera are a decently well known browser so it's easier to reliably install a trusted version of it than it is to install one for a wallet like metamask (especially with the potential for scam ads - Opera would be a more expensive target).

Both wallets seem to have good cross platform support too (Opera on a phone and Desktop only need the 12 nmemonic words put in so you can use your wallet on both - makes the nft gaming side of crypto a bit easier - but nothing of high value should be stored on a phone).
140  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Timed delay cancel transactions on: January 31, 2023, 04:38:36 PM

So it is possible could this be implemented  into a hardware wallet

Also, I would like to see a white the recipient could see there is going to be an incoming amount. Also a time delay. He can also see that as well.

What purpose would this have? You could send them a copy of the transaction once it's signed, that'd be safe and secure (if it's timelocked then they won't be able to broadcast it until that time has passed)..

As said above, trezor and ledger so work with electrum, it's likely other hardware wallets are able to do similar too - it's not a very advanced feature.
