121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mint Chip Technical Details on: April 13, 2012, 06:22:35 AM
If you wana use Mint Chip for transactions over 10,000$, go ahead.

what

Quote
If you wana to use a cloud cluster merchant payment gateway instead of using a decentralized p2p exchange, go head.

mintchip is not decentralized

you have to stop thinking the government is out to get you...

it's not out to get me, just currently incompetent. it is specifically designed for future forced updates. If you hack it to hold BTC, then your hack is gone once it force updates and coins lost unless you back up all the keys.

so thank Canada, they are working WITH us!

lol. they completely shit talked bitcoin claiming it was basically doomed while stealing a lot of it's innovations, making it closed source and centralized, claiming they invented something totally awesome which is in reality, a mundane portable wallet to buy a $2 coffee with, secured with questionable cert authority 1990s technology and most likely visa paywave chip junk.

122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mint Chip Technical Details on: April 13, 2012, 05:00:14 AM
any merchants that accepts mintchip can easily accept bitcoin too, because exchanging bitcoins for mintchip's USD or CAD can be automated and FREE! 0.00% exchange fee! how? P2P irreversible transactions Biatches  Cool!

Yeah if that merchant doesn't sell anything over $5-10
Mintchip is for "very small transactions" which is still not a bad idea.

Also you are assuming (lol) no fees. I doubt all these supposed cloud cluster merchant payment gateway ideas floated on their site will do free transactions. Canadian Mint provides the hardware and infrastructure, then all the middle men vultures descend and take fees performing transactions on their network to credit/debit your mintchip. They will contract this out to huge corporations for the most money possible.

There's also the issue of the fine print where they can disable your chip whenever they want and make you replace it, arbitrarily reflash the firmware, ect. Oops there goes all your bitcoins, we're not liable because the mintchip was never designed for it. Sorry

Still a good idea, but yeah I'd rather just find somebody on the street and trade bitcoins for cash with an open source Cryptostick with AES-256 instead of using banks, centralization, tracking, IDs..

123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-order Bitcoin Magazine - Finalizing proofs for first issue on: April 13, 2012, 02:17:37 AM
What do you have left to do?

I ask because for years I managed to put out all these publications on time every 2 weeks, and every month even while juggling all my labs and assignments, my epic drinking at the SUB bar every couple of days and sold the ads. I did all three at the same time for longer than I want to admit and made token money
http://discorder.ca/discorder-magazine/
http://ubyssey.ca/
http://exclaim.ca/
A book for Vice
Multiple other books and double issues, and some bullshit advertising graphic design writing/print shitwork.

It was terribad would not do it again, or recommend anybody attempt to publish their own actual printed magazine or newspaper. I would stay up 2 days at a time to make deadline because if I didn't, printers would refuse to print and delay a week, we would lose all our advertisers and probably be sued. Emergency last minute copy cuts, art directors fucking up everything because they've also been up for 2 days and down to the wire dpi changes, advertising no shows, shitty mac software breaking and I had to run through the SUB to steal somebody's macbook to finish it, distribution guy's fucking up delivery constantly, paying out overtime at the printers for being a minute late (yes, a minute), so much bullshit.

The hell doesn't end when you send it to print. That's just where the hell peaks and you get to argue with the printers over screwed up copy, fucked up graphics, ad misplacement and sometimes even total page misplacement. Or they promised you a special color rate and magically it disappears once you show up ready to go and the price is now double. Printing is like 60% of the hell.

Just push out digital copies on clickbank, kindle, wherever the fuck else people buy ebooks and magazines and make your own site to sell it. Trust me. Crowdsource other people to print out welfare anarchist kinkos copies and just drop them at Chapters/Borders (are they still alive?), cafe's and wherever.

I could also write a wall of text lament on all the print distribution problems you'll run into like them fucking up absolutely everything or deciding to no show when it comes time to publish. To get magazines into stores they have to be there on time everytime. They will keep all the money or simply send them back if you don't do it 100% correctly and with consistency.  Online edition, these problems no longer exist.
124  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Best way to convert my bit coins into CAD money? on: April 13, 2012, 01:06:22 AM
canadianbitcoins.com
cavirtex.com
nanaimogold.com

or just trade for EMT transfer here from somebody with good trade history. you'll probably have to send first
EMT is fastest/cheapest way but prone to fraud so know who you're dealing with

if you convert it to LR USD you can cash through nanaimogold.com and http://wmbroker.ca/
wmbroker doesn't advertise they do LR and other currencies but if you email or phone them they do, just can't put it on the same page as per stupid webmoney rules

Can always just use Electrum client. Search for the posts about it here
126  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [SOLD] Selling 150 bitcoins for 5 EMT or PayPal only for the seriously trusted.. on: April 13, 2012, 12:41:22 AM
I bought these
Replied for future credit reference for good trades

127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mint Chip Technical Details on: April 12, 2012, 11:26:36 PM
I'm going to assume it's exactly like the Visa/MC chips where it generates a unique handshake per transaction and somebody standing 10ft from you holding a RF reader bought from ebay can steal your coins and spend them without you ever knowing.

128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Royal Canadian Mint just announced a new alternative to BitCoin on: April 12, 2012, 11:22:46 PM
So apparently the plan is to use this to replace regular coins (lol inflatacoin), as they already officially killed the penny and now are looking into not minting any coins for the future since it costs untold millions to manufacture for some reason.

That is of course if this is actually secure and functions as promised, and somebody 70yrs old can figure out how to use it. Unlikely since it's closed source, old people are still scared of automated doors and credit cards, and I wouldn't trust anybody in the Cdn govt right now to be at all competent to implement this.

129  Economy / Goods / Re: $25 Starbucks + Redrobins Gift Card on: April 12, 2012, 01:31:40 AM

130  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Anyone want to trade $74.51 USD in Mt. Gox for some cash in Vancouver? on: April 12, 2012, 01:27:42 AM
Uhh thread is a year old.
I'm also in Vancouver and need to buy/sell with cash a few times a month.

Noted for future ref
131  Economy / Marketplace / Re: You can now buy a cryptostick with bitcoin on: April 12, 2012, 01:23:59 AM
I've had a cryptostick for awhile
Waiting for 2.0 version to come out where you can store encrypted files on it too like an Ironkey

Comes in handy if you need access to a pub computer and want to encrypt msgs without giving your priv key away
132  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MPEx goes live! on: April 12, 2012, 01:22:31 AM
Simple page + GPG security ftw
I wish there was a bitcoin exchange site like this as well, MtGox lite but a Tor hidden service, backed by LR or something and using web of trust model
133  Other / Off-topic / Re: Privacy, Google, browsers on: April 12, 2012, 12:56:19 AM
Does it still come with the sandbox Chrome offers?
That's basically the only reason to ever use chrome, almost outweighs the spying aspect of google.

I'm fine with lynx to do banking and XXXTerm which was developed by OpenBSD devs.

134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Evil of religion, and investment into IBB, Islamic Bitcoin Bank on: April 12, 2012, 12:49:44 AM
IBB is about Islamic banking regulations and practices.. so no interest loans, no usurous paper currency, ect.
If all our banks used the same practice none of our countries would be broke right now from epic subprime speculation fallout. If Raelians offered the same benefits as Islamic Banking Sharia law and had a thousand years history of operating sucessfully I'd use their bank too.

135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paysafecard to Paypal on: April 12, 2012, 12:44:03 AM
Ukash there are more people who will do it than Paysafecards but still looking at 10% min fees
Depends where you live on how else you want to buy. Can send SEPA xfer in EU to buy, cash bank deposit in US, Canada, UK and some EU countries.. western union.. credit card if you can figure out liqpay
136  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I start a store accepting only BTC? on: April 12, 2012, 12:42:08 AM
You could also accept

MoneyPak
Ukash
Paysafecards

Anything you know that can be later converted into bitcoins through trusted ppl here and #bitcoin-otc
Just be aware of rates (usually 8-10% fees for vouchers)

Then cash out bitcoins however you want easily.
137  Economy / Lending / Re: I am looking to borrow 15,000 BTC to expand my current bussiness. on: April 12, 2012, 12:35:19 AM
Bump - anyone else willing to take 1/3 ($25K)?

Thanks for trying.  It looks like this probably won't get done.

Wait until the new #bitcoin-otc exchange opens up and try to sell bonds or something, if you have ratings there
138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cryptography for direct democratic capitalism on: April 12, 2012, 12:19:34 AM
Shamir's Secret Sharing does this and is already available.
http://point-at-infinity.org/ssss/
Wikileaks apparently uses it so if Julian Assange disappears the rest of them can reassemble the key and access money but apparently he has none anymore.

139  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sheriff's investigators release initial findings on Obama eligibility on: April 12, 2012, 12:01:58 AM
Infamous troll sheriff Joe Arpaio hasn't had time to update his seekrit African president evidence because he's about to be thrown out of the public trust for corruption, intimidation and general insanity charges.

140  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there a need for a new exchange? on: April 11, 2012, 11:35:27 PM
More fixed rate exchangers in Korea/China/Europe would be great success
