121  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: btcQuick Forum name verification on: February 17, 2013, 07:20:21 PM
I purchased my membership a while back but never got a code. Is this a new feature? Maybe I registered before it was required?
122  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: casascius faild on: February 17, 2013, 07:14:16 PM
Have you contacted Casascius through his website or here on the forum? If there was a mistake, he's the one to ask about it.

Edit: Looking at blockchain, the address you posted has never had a transaction. He may have forgotten to load it before he sent it to you.

Edit 2: My bad, that's your address, not the one from the coin. His coins come with public keys, right? Do you have yours so you check the balance to confirm coins were added to the address?
123  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Audiation on: February 17, 2013, 06:23:48 PM
Someone claiming to be audiation's mother says that they paid everyone back. Grin

Sounds legit. Tongue
124  Economy / Services / Bookkeeping services available on: February 17, 2013, 03:51:09 AM
EDIT: I'm putting a hold on accepting new clients until after April 15th due to my increased work load during the tax season.

It seems like the board has quite a few new businesses starting lately with the rising price of Bitcoin. I'm posting this topic here for any person or business looking for an experienced bookkeeper to take care of their books for them. For the time being I'll be limiting my services due to my work schedule, but I plan on increasing the services I can perform as we get closer to summer.

The following lists the services I offer, pricing information, and other details for potential clients. I do require that all clients sign a confidentiality agreement (mostly for their peace of mind) before I work on their accounts. If anyone has any additional questions, feel free to send me a PM.

Offered Services:
  • Accounting of all income and expense accounts
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Financial reporting (reconciliations, profit & loss, balance sheets, income statements, etc.)
  • Tracking of A/P and A/R
  • Budgeting and other services may be available upon request or in the future

Pricing:
  • Bookkeeping rate is BTC1/hour. A set weekly rate can be negotiated if requested.
  • Monthly and quarterly reports are free of charge. Additional reports may have an additional charge of BTC0.1.
  • Additional requested services may have their own set of hourly rates.
For hourly rate clients: services rendered will only be turned over upon receipt of payment.
For weekly rate clients: services rendered will be turned over immediately and/or upon request.*

Set-Up:
  • A meeting can be set up to through PM, email, or Skype to determine what services the client needs.
  • A signed confidentiality agreement will be sent to all clients. All clients must sign and return the agreement.
  • Files can be sent one of three ways: directly through email, directly through a postal service (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.), or uploaded through Dropbox.**
  • Additional meetings can be scheduled at any time to discuss financial reports. These meetings must be scheduled in advance.

I'll start working as soon as I receive the necessary files. I'll contact clients ASAP when work is finished or if I need any additional information. Reconciliation reports will be created at the end of every month and sent to clients through email, postal service, or Dropbox. Profit & Loss reports will be created at the end of every quarter and sent to clients through email, postal service, or Dropbox.

All client files will be backed up on an external hard drive. Documents uploaded through Dropbox can be retained in the shared folder at the discretion of the client. All documents can be sent back to the client upon request. A client can also have his files stored on a flash drive set aside exclusively for his account upon request for a BTC0.6 fee.

*Overdue payments of more than one week with no explanation or agreement will be charged a late fee of 50% of the overdue payment. Clients with overdue payment charges will not receive reports or services rendered until payment is received.
** Because I am located in the US, I will require clients abroad who wish to physically send and receive their documents to pay for all my shipping costs.

theymos, was this because of new changes again? We need to be more pro-active about forum stability and software if we want to match forum growth, and the growth of Bitcoin as a whole.

No. Traffic is much higher, but I don't know exactly why it gets so slow. Memory usage seems fine now. Things improve after I restart mysql, php-fpm, etc., but then the site gradually slows down over time.

As I said, I'm making arrangements to move to a better server. This isn't as easy as it sounds because I don't (and won't) control any of the forum's critical assets other than the BTC. So I need to get someone trustworthy to buy the server (this part seems OK, but not done yet), and I need to get Sirius to update the DNS (I haven't heard from him yet).

Any estimated time frame on the server buy? I knew traffic was getting higher, but I'm surprised it's had this much of an affect on the site. I guess there's a silver lining in all the lag, at least. Smiley

EDIT: Had a 504 (first time) Gateway Problem when I posted this and this is the first time I've been able to get back on BT. Compare timestamps with original and edit version of this post to see the difference.

Just had one myself. It's taking upwards of two minutes to load a page, if it loads at all.

There's an official BitInstant support topic for just this reason. Use it.

The forum is neraly unsualble today.

I hope we are ddosed or something. If not this really needs to be fixed ASAP. It's not OK if the forum collapses everytime we get a huge amount of visitors.

I agree. I had multiple 500 errors today (500, 502, and 503), and it seems like the forum was completely down for quite a while.

It's not necessarily useless. From my understanding, the syncing process isn't as bad once the blockchain is finally downloaded. It just takes a long time for the first time.

I don't know how compatible the wallet files are between the two programs. You'd need someone with more technical knowledge to answer that for you. All I can think of is to send the BTC from your old client to an address in the new one, but there might be an easier way to do it that I'm unaware of.

Electrum does not download the blockchain, so there's no real syncing concerns to worry about. MultiBit is my favorite since I personally like the design and features of it better. To my understanding, it only downloads part of the chain, so syncing only about a minute (I've never had it take more than two at the very most).

Both are great options, and they eliminate the barrier of entry. Wink

Very interesting and fun survey. Can't wait to see the results! Wink
132  Economy / Lending / Re: 1.1 btc needed to kickstart my business - guaranteed 2 BTC returned in 2 weeks on: February 15, 2013, 03:28:14 AM
audiation and me are not the same person. He deleted his account because you thought he was scamming and were trying to start a business and I only need 1.1 more bitcoins to kickstart it.

"Hey person who isn't me, Tomatocage thinks I'm scamming. So I'm going to delete my account ok?" -- PM that audiation sent to tantienstar69. Riiiiiight.

yeah he goes to my school ya dumbfuck

Then why did the two of you need to do a loan online instead of in person?

You were NOT supposed to notice that small discrepancy.

*sigh* Can't I go just one day without uncovering another conspiracy? Must this be my cross to bear? Tongue
133  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 15, 2013, 03:26:14 AM
That would do it then, lol.
134  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 15, 2013, 03:23:24 AM
The last two days I've been getting major lag again. I just had a couple errors on Chrome saying that the server shut down the connection, or something like that. First time I had seen the error.

It's like the scammers don't even try anymore.  Roll Eyes

137  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Audiation on: February 14, 2013, 11:05:30 PM
I think I remember that topic. I thought it was suspicious since he was asking for direct payment only and he only had a handful of posts. Sorry to hear you lost your coin.
138  Other / Meta / Re: Changes to newbie restrictions on: February 14, 2013, 10:58:30 PM
I agree. We really need to raise set some sort of threshold for newbies to post in the Marketplace section and its sub-sections.  I'm sick of adding to the list of suspected scammers which grows on a daily basis. My suggestion would be to limit access to Marketplace until you have at least 200 posts and for Lending at least 500 posts.

I like this idea but it's trivially easy to clock up hundreds of posts in a few days by shit-posting in Newbies/Off-Topic/Politics and Society/Speculation, so I'd like to see some time requirement added as well - and I think it should be a substantial one.

To be honest, I wonder if some of the forums shouldn't be invisible until certain benchmarks are reached.  At least that way people would have to put some effort into maintaining an account instead of just being able to open 5 newbie accounts and get them white-listed all at once.

Post count and duration of membership aren't everything - I could be a scammer for all any of you know - but at least we can discourage drive-by scammers.

Exactly. These ideas won't completely stop scamming, but they will reduce those drive-by scammers (which I feel are the most common kind at the moment).

The good thing with the post count is that, even though it's easy to post garbage to boost it up, it gives lenders and buyers more posts to look at for content before committing. A member with 30 posts on off-topic/newbie type boards may just have those posts because he's new and doesn't know where else to post or how to contribute yet. A member with 200 posts on off-topic/newbie type boards is a lot more suspicious.

I agree entirely that the time requirement would help the most, but I could see the worry that it would discourage useful new members. It's a tricky balance to find, but I think a minimum of at least another hour would go a long way.

I experienced a lot of 502 errors about 2-3 days ago, but since then I've had a perfectly fine connection. Maybe even quicker than usual, though it may just seem that way since it was loading pretty damn slow during those couple days.
140  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-11 Does Anyone Bitcoin? on: February 12, 2013, 03:25:53 AM
Next time you want to ask someone if he's bitcoin aware, just ask him:

Do you bitcoin?

I can does the Bitcoin.
