1201  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: downloading blocks is too slow on: May 17, 2014, 01:22:14 AM
You might have poor node connectivity. How many connections do you have? Check that you've setup port forwarding correctly in your router so other nodes can "find" yours easier. Failing that, you can change the source code's outgoing connection # and incoming connection # to be 100 instead of ~8. Improves connectivity and block downloads if you're running a server. Just be careful it doesn't rape your bandwidth.
this is bullshit. bitcoin core only downloads from one peer at a time. having more peers does not improve download speed.
1202  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Massive txs leave bitcoin unsecure for a long time. on: May 17, 2014, 01:10:47 AM
I still don't see how a large transaction makes the chain vulnerable. sure, if a transaction is large, it would be smart to wait for more confirmations, but how does the existence of a large transaction affect another transaction's security?
1203  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Securing Bitcoin-QT with a yubikey? on: May 17, 2014, 01:06:02 AM
yubikey authentication can only be done in a secure environment (ie. a trusted server), this can not be said of someone's computer.
1204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-0.9.1-linux downloading blocks help needed please on: May 16, 2014, 06:53:40 PM
as the error message says, you're out of memory, as in RAM.
1205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Windows Defender detects DOS/Stoned in chainstate files on: May 16, 2014, 03:22:39 AM
I saw a couple threads about a similar issue. Is there anything specific I should do?

Running Windows 8. I keep getting alerts from Windows defender. The virus definitions were last updated this afternoon.
protip: if you saw similar threads about the same issue, consider reading those threads for a solution.
1206  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Exchange amazon uk gifts. > BTC on: May 15, 2014, 03:16:40 AM
what do you mean by "gifts"? gift cards? physical items?
1207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: My current btc address say I may have double spends. on: May 15, 2014, 03:01:51 AM
what most likely happened is that p2pool mined a block that was orphaned, and your address received the payout from the orphaned block.

all of these have cleared  so when does my address stop having this warning.
it's just a warning. all your coins (apart from the double spent ones) can still be spent.

do i contact p2p pool operator?
it's p2p ._.

do i contact blockchain info ? since they do the wallet.
no

1209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New Server Node not uploading (max 23 connections) on: May 13, 2014, 04:57:58 PM
Upload speed is increasing over time, not really sure why its so slow compared to other nodes, it has 120Mb/s upstream bandwidth and is in Dallas Texas
like i said, you only upload when other peers are requesting blocks. so your upload is capped by your other peer's download speed.

1211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dev Question: Heartbleed: What do I need to update? on: May 13, 2014, 01:26:19 AM
I am currently making a client update for my "coin" I won't name
I wonder what that is...

as for your question, you have to update the openssl libraries to the latest version (1.0.1g)
1212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wanted: Script or .bat for "automatic forward a TX from A to B" *help* on: May 12, 2014, 02:05:48 PM
It's not feasible to do this with a bat file. You'll need to use a compiled program or a more powerful scripting language.
1213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's shown to reciever when sending an e-mail? Your IP? Is this a risk? on: May 12, 2014, 01:33:57 AM
While we're at it:

Would it be possible to create an anti keylogger program?

Say, every time you type in an A the program instantly types in 100 other letters and instantly deletes them aswell.

Perhaps this is what Wallets do?
no, it's been thought of, and the short answer is: no, it's not worth the effort.
1214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New Server Node not uploading (max 23 connections) on: May 11, 2014, 07:18:37 PM
For anyone who is interested my upload amounts have massively increased, I assume the IP addresses gains a reputation as a good node and the protocol serves it more connections over time.
false. you only experience high upload if another client is receiving blocks from you. otherwise the only traffic is transactions, which is negligible. also, on a dynamic ip, i regularly (but not always) max out my upload shortly after i finished syncing with the network.
1215  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin Network Traffic on: May 11, 2014, 02:06:16 AM
What ports are typically used with this type of traffic if using pool mining?  If there is a document that goes over this, I can just read that too.
if you're paranoid about traffic monitoring, you can set up a ssh tunnel from your workplace to your home computer or vps.
1216  Economy / Services / Re: Need someone to purchase me a hosting via Paypal! I'd pay $4 Bitcoin bonus! on: May 10, 2014, 03:50:03 AM

1217  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin Network Traffic on: May 10, 2014, 02:24:07 AM
if you're mining to a pool, then the bandwidth usage is negligible. as for what it "looks" like, a stratum connection is a text protocol, and getwork is http with optional long polling.
1218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SHA256 password hashing? on: May 10, 2014, 02:22:27 AM
the post in question talks about password hashing, as in comparing the entered password to a stored hash for authentication. bitcoin does not work this way. instead, it uses a key stretching function described in gmaxwell's post above to derive the AES decryption key.
1219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Laggy desktop when mining. on: May 09, 2014, 11:06:38 PM
1. from your motherboard, set your hd 4000 as the display gpu
2. change monitor connections as necessary
3. specify "-d x" in cgminer, where x is the index of the 7950
