Two things I noticed:
1. The miner does not support multiple pools by default, so you have to manually edit the /config/cgminer.conf and add 2-3 extra pools, I also added a line: "failover-only" : true,
is this changes persistent across fw upgrade/reboot? 2. The miner does not have cron service installed, they rely on a service "monitordcdc" to frequently check the current for 8 VRMs on each board, if the current is too low they will restart the cgminer process. I'm not sure of the effectiveness of this approach, but my miner has been restarted by this service this morning
many thanks this is very valuable info. from https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-30"The DC/DC modules we have on our boards are the largest and best quality available from GE Critical Power. Each capable of 40 amps making the max available 320 amps per ASIC"

I touched those VRM modules, they are very hot, so some kind of cooling should be provided, but the case fan is too weak, not even match the avalon's 120MM fan, but so far I have not find a 140mm fan providing enough airflow, they are all weak and quiet case fans
I agree. I have a few spare avalon fans that I will be swapping with the two front fans. This is the improved results with just the case cover removed and an external fan blowing air over all the components. Before airflow management change and firmware upgrade from stock v0.90https://i.imgur.com/TKJbmJs.jpgAfter airflow management Change and upgrade to firmware v0.92sorry for bothering you again but I have to restate my two questions (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3291576#msg3291576) so you're going to replace this two front fans ( https://i.imgur.com/DrBQn0G.jpg), right? what is the exact type/model/brans of the avalon fans you're referring to? thanks

Those VRMs made loud high pitch sound when first running at 0.9 firmware (and consumes considerably higher power), and after upgrading to new firmware, those sound disappeared. I doubt that those burned boards were running 0.9 firmware
Both burned boards were 0.92. yeah I can confirm that users that experienced said they where using 0.92 (over kncminer channel @freeenode) but someone else said that those units could be damaged by having use 0.90 for a few hours / day, it's only speculation thou. Nice to see bitcointalk back up! Horrible timing for the downtime.
agreed on both points

Sooo getting back to the kinda Important issue of boards frying. Could those of you with units hashing state what version of firmware are you using and if you encountered any issues. It seems to be v0.92 is the problem. What about v.93??. I think ill stay on v.90 for the moment eventhough it draws a lot more power
I'm using 0.91. 0.90 power consumption is way to high. there's risk to fuse your PSU (if you have 850W). using .92/.93 lead to very frequent cgminer restart. something like a restart every 30-50secs.

However I am going to swap out the stock fans on the case and instead put in higher CFM fans.
what fans you gonna use instead ie will they fit them heatsinks?
Why would you touch the heat sink fans? They are more then adequate. no the heat sink fans are good. The problem is the other components on the board itself that need that heat ventilated. The air moving in and out of the case is not cutting it. So I will swap out those 2 fans with 2 avalon type fans and put them at full speed. so you're going to replace this two fans https://i.imgur.com/DrBQn0G.jpg? what is the exact type/model of the replacement you're referring to ?

UPS picks up once a day
so this means, that who don't have tracking number yet will have to wait one more day? Unfortunately I think we'll have to wait for another long day

I'm not saying that it's better than any other pools type. You specifically asked about what are the difference between p2pool and centralized pool like btcguild. I merely listed those differences. as simple as that.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a dick. Just wanted to know why it wasn't more popular if it's resilient to ddos attacks. You did answer my initial question, so thanks for that. you're welcome don't worry, I'm cool, everything is ok :-)

use p2pool - forget about pool ddos
Can you explain why this is different to a pool like btcguild in terms of ddos? distributed. decentralized. no single point of failure. see: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/P2PoolHow come it's got even less miners using it than Slush's pool if it's so good? http://blockchain.info/poolsI'm not saying that it's better than any other pools type. I think I share some first ear information I just received from a phone call with KnC: The ordering of the hosting option will not have an influence of the timing of installation. They never (intended to) promise(d) that all hosted devices will be up running before any boxes get shipped. If you are at your place in the queue (and it looks this is the payment queue), your box will either be sent to the hosting facility (which will take some hours ?) or send out via UPS. There will be no ssh or other direct access to any hosted miners. That's for security reasons and I totally agree on this. There will be a webinterface (and it looks like they are not speaking about what you see on your current order page). This webinterface also just gets finalized (omg, that's not professional!) and they can't promise that a backup mining pool will be in the first revision of this software. Starting the production lines did not go as smoothly as they did expect. But the production is running. I congratulated them for nearly meeting the promised timeframe and it looks like they are very proud and happy they did! thanks for sharing. any more accurate info about delivery timeframe?

did anybody try to make a phone call knc office this morning asking for delivery news?
I would do it myself but I'm not able to place a call to Sweden at the moment.

Must be 1-500 customer for status change I thing.
^^ This I think that your order status will be "In progress" only if you belong to custormer group 1-500 I am in 1-500 Customer group (day 1) and it does not say in progress. Guess again. Hosted @KnC pool? It was set to host @ KNC pool but I just switched it to eligius. (within last 20 min) Worried that the pool isn't ready yet as we've not seen any info posted. But you did pay for Knc hosting right? my theory is: 1-500 customer delivered first, if one of those opted for knc pool it will room for one other cstomer that does not belong to 1-500. but it's only a wild guess. probably there's also to take into account payment date...

^^ This I think that your order status will be "In progress" only if you belong to custormer group 1-500 I'm not in the 1-500 customer group, and my order #21x is in progress (scheduled for shipping Day 2). I'm missing something then... anyway I think that everything will be moved to tomorrow morning (Sweden time) at best. sure the lack of information about delivery timeframe is going to become annoying.
