1221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opinions on NEM? on: February 18, 2014, 04:10:55 PM
How can you buy NEM at this point?
1222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opinions on NEM? on: February 17, 2014, 01:12:29 AM
It's a totally new code base?  Has anything been produced?
1223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Opinions on NEM? on: February 16, 2014, 08:59:47 PM
Is it the next big thing?  It is an entirely new code base or is it a fork?
1224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Next Generation" status? on: February 16, 2014, 06:03:12 PM
eMunie IPO tomorrow?  How do you buy in?

NEM about to wrap up fundraising and looks very promising

How does NEM differentiate itself from the others?  Is it an Nxt fork?
1225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Next Generation" status? on: February 16, 2014, 05:35:03 PM
When is that scheduled to start?
1226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / "Next Generation" status? on: February 16, 2014, 03:38:34 PM
I was following the status of so-called next generation coins closely but I had to turn my attention elsewhere over the last few weeks.  The last I checked, Nxt was first out of the gate and going pretty strong.  XCP was in very early stages but now it's been added to coinmarketcap.com and value has increased about 24x.  eMunie seemed to be in a weird place with the canceled IPO.  Also various IPO coins were found out to be scams when the authors ran off with the IPO funds.

What's the latest?
1227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 16, 2014, 03:29:13 PM
Counterparty just appeared on coinmarketcap.com and it looks like the 1BTC I burned a little while back is now worth almost 24BTC?  Wow.  Any particular news or achievements responsible for the appreciation?

Is XCP on any exchanges?

Is anyone else getting an SSL warning from dgex.com?

What is this heist I see mentioned above?

Is Vicurex a prominent exchange?  I hadn't heard of them before.

If you want a transaction to go through quicker and surer, you can pay with 2nxt or 5nxtIf you tried to pay with 0.0001 you would be on the bottom of the list, and may not get your transaction picked up. all the 0.0002 and 0.0003 would be above you.

Can anyone confirm this is how the transaction fees work when sending Nxt?  If so I think that's fantastic.

Philosophy should not be confused with software development.  Let the software influence philosophy after it's been written.

Simpler is better.

Either you want to present NXT as a rich guy's club with some kind of superior technology or you want to present NXT as a network/ movement for free people, for decentralization and against all power government.

You're getting ahead of yourself.  First we have to create superior technology by any means necessary.  Then the technology will create freedom.  Trying to create superior technology through some kind of dreamed-up "free people" process is inefficient and counterproductive to your stated goal.

If we can think up a simple (requirement 1) system that can be explained to any voter (requirement 2) that has a low probability of abuse (requirement 3) that also allows for tweaking in the future based on new insights (requirement 4), then I say implement it and accept that at some point it will f*ck up and we will be prepared for that.

XD heheh if we could find this, we could trademark it and be very rich

Exactly.  It's not going to happen.

the lesson to be learned here is not to use voting for anything too important. its very good for something like figuring out what to do with the unclaimed funds and for bcnext to gauge the pulse of the community but ultimately we CAN NOT let decisions about the protocol be decided this way.

+1

Why in the world are we empowering people with no software experience to make software decisions?

Are you guys planning to make decisions regarding the continued development of this software through a voting system?

BCNext, Luc, CfB make decision on technical developments. The urgent issue needs to be worked on is the deployment of the common fund and the funding committee . Go here to  read more https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423241.0

I think this voting proposal is a slippery slope.  This (and any) software project should not be governed by a committee/foundation/community.  That concept has no place in software development.  Maybe voting is an OK way to decide how to split up money, but there will be temptation to take it further.  Why can't BCNext, Luc, CfB decide where the money goes?  It doesn't need to be a time-consuming set of decisions.  Linux, bittorrent, bitcoin, litecoin have all thrived without any of this crap.
