881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitSharesX -- out of nowhere? on: November 10, 2014, 04:01:55 PM
How have they achieved their incredible marketcap though?  It sounds like it may be a great project but the marketcap is just incredible, especially considering how quickly it's been achieved.  And BitSharesX does have competitors who were fairly well-established first.  I don't think I buy the "because it's so great" argument here.  There must be something else at play.
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SWARM] Swarm - Cryptoequity Crowdfunding - Official Thread on: November 10, 2014, 03:14:48 PM
I think Swarmcorp still has 60% of all the coins, so they can do a new round for investors.

I think it was something like 3% of the coins from a new project will be divided to all the coinholders.

Can anyone confirm these items?  I'm also still interested to know when dividend coins are issued.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Storjcoin X (SJCX) - A Coin for Decentralized Cloud Storage on: November 09, 2014, 02:31:45 PM
Is there a ballpark ETA for the initial release of this project?
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Storjcoin X (SJCX) - A Coin for Decentralized Cloud Storage on: November 08, 2014, 07:25:04 PM
Will Storj also use a blockchain of its own?  If so, will it be a sidechain to Bitcoin or totally separate?

Bear with us on that one, we haven't made a decision yet.

That's to both questions?
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in OpenBazaar? on: November 08, 2014, 07:10:59 PM
What is the motivation for the OpenBazaar nodes to run the software?  Or maybe it doesn't work like that?
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Invest in OpenBazaar? on: November 08, 2014, 06:37:28 PM
Is it possible to invest in OpenBazaar now or in the future?  Are they going to disperse a coin?
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Stellar -- is it? on: November 08, 2014, 06:06:40 PM
What are your thoughts on Stellar?

I decided against Ripple due to 80% being held by Ripple Labs but it sounds like Stellar Foundation holds a lot more than that, albeit with a promise to distribute them.

I believe Stellar did away with the centralization that Ripple had implemented which is good.

Stripe invested in Stellar which I think is a pretty big deal.

Why does most of Stellar's volume come from bx.in.th?
888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: November 08, 2014, 04:57:18 PM
Looks like the Counterparty workforce is expanding by 50%.
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitSharesX -- out of nowhere? on: November 08, 2014, 04:34:05 PM
As usual, hard to say who to believe.  I'm sorry to hear about the dilution.

BitUSD is only on Bter and BTC38?  Why is there so much Chinese support for this stuff?

I'm trying to figure out how Storj will work.  It won't use the BTC blockchain at all?

coinmarketcap shows 41,469,270 SJCX and there are 350,000,000 more to be emitted?
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BitSharesX -- out of nowhere? on: November 07, 2014, 05:00:48 PM
I was away from crypto for a while and now it seems like BitSharesX came out of nowhere to land in the #4 spot on coinmarketcap and it seems to have a long list of features.  How did the project mature so quickly?

I read somewhere that it has a Chinese affiliation somehow.  Are the devs Chinese?
893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins that generate coins on: November 07, 2014, 04:31:12 PM
"generates" could be replaced with "gets" in my original post.
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coins that generate coins on: November 07, 2014, 03:47:06 PM
NXT generates more NXT through the forging process.

SWARM generates other coins through the dividend process (if kept in Counterwallet).

Are there others?
895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SWARM] Swarm - Cryptoequity Crowdfunding - Official Thread on: November 07, 2014, 11:57:16 AM
I have a few questions about SWARM.

Can more Swarmcoins be issued to dilute the current holders' share?

Do Swarmcoins have any utility besides generating dividends?

Are dividends issued to Swarmcoin holders only once for each new SWARM project?  If so, at what point are they issued?

How is the number of dividend coins distributed per Swarmcoin determined?

There is a lot of talk here about November 5th.  Were dividends distributed on that day?

I don't make much money doing tech support

Yeah but you "get it".

First the internet and now crypto.  What's next, jet packs?  Actually jet packs would be kind of a letdown after the internet and crypto.

I am curious as to how tied to the btc value/price is xcp? To clarify I notice that as the overall price of btc has been dropping, xcp has been rising. I have to ask myself if btc price were to shoot up today to say 10k for 1 bitcoin, would xcp remain at .01btc or would it all of a sudden drop down to the equivalent value of 5 dollars out of a 10k valued bitcon?

During the last big rise I saw altcoins only increase in per-BTC value.

One stark contrast between BTC and XCP is that BTC is inflationary and XCP is deflationary.  You can't mine-and-dump XCP.

In that case it's likely that no matter what XCP is in comparison to btc it will remain constant regardless of the volatility? As in if one XCP became .5 BTC, then whether a btc was 300 dollars or worth 300,000 dollars, in this hypothetical an XCP would probably still be .5 btc?

That's the way I expect it to play out but predicting future prices is difficult.

All the 2.0 competition was getting confusing.  Nice of Overstock to choose the winner.  Smiley  IMO, they chose wisely.

I should have said the *first* killer app.  Flight from banks won't come first.
