1261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Verge xvg electrum wallet help on: September 12, 2018, 06:53:02 PM
Butka, thank you for your response. But I am affraid that guy face to the other issue. He cannot opet the wallet at all. I just see lower balance than on blockchain. When I imported seed on another PC, it show exactly the same (wrong) balance.
Can you post your verge address here so that I can lookup for the balances?
Does the blockchain balance show up higher or the wallet balance? A single private key uses multiple addresses for privacy purposes so that people won't track down your total coin holdings. Your wallet could have shown the total balances associated with all the addresses which might be higher than the blockchain balance of the particular single address.

At rare cases, you would have sent a transaction with nil fee which would have stayed there in mempool for longer days. Once it has reached the threshold it could have came back to the older address from where it was sent. This return back might not have been updated in the electrum wallet. These kinds of issues won't occur unless you have a older version of electrum or you haven't connected them to the network!

Or the other situation might be, you would have received the coins in the address, but it wouldn't have been confirmed by the network due to lower fees. During this time, the blockchain shows the address with balances higher but the wallet shows balances only after 1 confirmation.
1262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difficulty factors added to bruteforcing multisig private keys on: September 12, 2018, 05:37:37 PM
You could have slightly messed up with the info. As far as I have understood multisig addresses, let me try to explain it in a simpler way.

An ordinary bitcoin address consist of only one private key. In simpler terms, a private key is hashed to create a public key which in turn is hashed to create a bitcoin address. Whereas a multisig address has a collection of private keys. Let us consider that 15 private keys create 15 public keys. These 15 public keys are used to create a locking script. This script which consists of 15 public keys is hashed to create the multisig address. Based on the M of N which you have specified you need 1-15 signatures to unlock the script and spend the bitcoins.

A locking script looks similar to this

Code:
15 [pubkey 1][pubkey 2][pubkey 3]...[pubkey 15] 15 OP_CHECKMULTISIG

An unlocking script to spend the bitcoins present in the multisig address will be like

Code:
OP_0 [sig 1][sig 2][sig 3]...[sig 15]

Hence, to unlock the script we need to have an unlocking script which consists of 15 signatures from 15 private keys. Hence, spending the coins require the correct unlocking script to be provided for validation which can only be fulfilled by these 15 private keys. There is no other 16th key involved as you think.

Is it therefore much harder to bruteforce if quantum computers descend in the next few years?
Yes, based on my assumption. Bitcoin is designed in such a way that it is impossible to derive the private key from the normal address unless it is exposed. Even after the involvement of quantum computers, it would be not very difficult to find a single private key. But in order to spend the coins from a multisig address, 15 private keys needs to be involved which would be quite difficult as all the 15 keys are independent to each other.

I'm thinking of printing out 15 seeds and storing those seeds on a flash drive and putting that flash drive in a secure location
Bad idea. If the flash drive is stolen, all your coins would be lost as all the keys to release the coins are exposed to the hacker or the thief. Better to store the 15 seeds in 15 different locations so that it would be impossible to steal your coins.

is there some sort of private key that can be calculated out of all the other private keys that exist which relates to a "regular" address' private key?
No, I don't think so there is another 16th private key which can be derived from the 15 keys.
1263  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you have empathy for rekt "investors"? - POLL on: September 12, 2018, 12:24:36 PM
We can better call these guys as cryptocurrency losers rather than calling them investors. Similar to the Mt.gox downtrend losses where people lost thousands of bitcoins due to the hack, the end of 2017 and start of 2018 has seen abysmal investors who don't have any knowledge about crypto losing all their hard earned money  by investing in these. Most of the inexperienced newbies who invested in crypto for getting rich quick sold and ran away from the market to prevent further losses. They never think of these as a long term holdings or rather considering them as a form of digital payment. On the other hand, the guy you mentioned shifted his investments to other alts which was a blunder. Eth has tanked from $1500 to $170 which is roughly 9x from the peak.

Going by price history of btc, he has invested his life savings when btc price was around $5000 - $8500. Btc priced has never topped up higher than $8000 excluding the last 2 days of November. This clearly states that he is an idiot who is not even able to withstand for a year to retake his investments. If he had holded around a year he could have taken out all his investment without any losses. Let's assume this guy has invested when btc was $6000 if he had sold them this year when Btc was trading at $8000, he would have been in a profit of $40000.

Inexperienced newbie investors feel like they have lost the btc run and invest in a shitcoin assuming that they may rise like btc and they would become a millionaire easily within days/months. There was a similar situation in 2013 when btc rose from $150 to $1000 and then came back to $500. People who bought btc during 2013 peak would have got 6x if they are holding them till now. This is not a get rich quick ponzi scheme which might make you a millionaire the next month.
1264  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 51% attack can be done with no source code access? on: September 12, 2018, 07:18:52 AM
I would suggest you do NOT start any project. Your technical knowledge (based on this and all of your previous threads) is almost zero.
are you trying to make your own cryptocurrency since i've seen you make similar thread (about various technical detail about bitcoin specifically) Huh
You guys are late, I guess. They have already created a clone 5 months ago  and named it as Bitcoin Essence with minor source code changes and total supply. The coin is even available in 2 exchanges  Cheesy

ANN Thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3108135.0
Website : https://www.bitcoinessence.org

So if mostly same with just bitcoin source code, then? Just not open to public for example. Still other 51% owner can ruin the network?
Op no one would mind launching a 51% attack on your clone coin(assuming you are the dev of the BTE). I guess you might be the sole miner of your coin, so it's in your hands to destroy your clone coin or not as they don't even have a value and volume out their in the 2 exchanges.  Grin

P.S Before getting into further development and updation of your clone, you should read and understand the basics of cryptography. You should give a read on Mastering Bitcoin/Princeton Book and get a basic understanding of technically how bitcoin works.
1265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is going on with ETH? on: September 11, 2018, 01:17:00 PM
Ah, good to see a self mod thread in Alt Discussion. The shit replies crossed 20+ and you have trashed most of them, except keeping a few good ones.

There has been significant dip in the btc/eth trading pairs with eth reaching as low as 0.03BTC these few days. The dip might have been due to various reasons with the primary one being the ICO guys selling of their Eth which they have collected in ICO to prevent further losses due to the bearish market prevailing now. Further cmc datas has shown that btc dominance is raising at a steep rate with the tokens getting vanished from the market at a speedy and an enormous rate.

According to recent stats, it is seen that ICOs have raised around $7billion this year and with August being the lowest. Most of the ICOs collect eth as their primary currency and sell them off to start developing their platform.

We should even note that, eth doesn't have a cap and a minimum supply. Also as of VB words, eth should be considered as a fuel for running the platform on top of ethereum network. The new market traders could have realized this lately and would have sold their eth which they accumulated in the earlier 2017 days.

The recent words from VB suggests that "Eth and other currencies has reached their maximum potential and would never rise in steep gains". These may have also created a panic among the traders and some minor whales who could have dumped the price.

Quote
Will the eth market recover and see new gains?
I don't think so, unless we have some good improvements in the eth protocol and the introduction of Casper.
1266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DOGE - after DOGETHEREUM speculation on: September 10, 2018, 06:55:24 PM
after dogecoin fork (dogethereum)
Fork? Its better to call the dogethereum as a decentralized bridge between the Doge and the Ethereum rather than calling it as a new coin. The tps of Doge is being scaled with the smart contracts of Eth and I assume that DogX token is no way associated with the bridge protocol based on the various claims. There has been a dilemma among the minds of doge supporters, that the new DogX Erc20 token is a copy coin. Doge has always been used as a tipping tool of appreciation all over the internet(most commonly seen in reddit). I own a little of 20k doge for fun purposes of gifting some friends on special occasions and for exchanging some low value coins.

Sure, they could have introduced another halving. Is it now set in stone?
Its better to leave Doge uncapped and not introduce halving as Doge is not being considered as an asset. The main goal of the currency is to be used for tipping and paying others in the cheapest way. Constant block rewards are not very common in cryptocoins with exception being Monero and Doge. Once after reaching the threshold supply, 0.3 XMR is constantly issued for each block as an incentive to the miners whereas 10k doge is being issued in Doge blockchain.

I guess the dev team could decide to hard fork in the future to change the issuance model if needed.
Grin Grin The price of doge is so low that it is getting traded at 0.005, with a hard fork you may completely damage the whole price and dump it down to 0.000001 Tongue

Thank you for the Informations now i updated the Pictures with Name+Date, but it dosent display like your Post.
Newbies post won't display images mate. Anyways I have quoted your images. If you rise up to Jr Member your post displays images.

Yes, but how does it work?
Didn't know that the Bitcoin Forum has an Escrow Service?
Can you explain me how the transaction work?
It's easier, the winner of the auction contacts minerjones/any trusted escrow and pays him the bid amount. You need to ship the product to the winner. Once he receives, minerjones releases your payment. Though I haven't used him, he is one of the most trusted escrow in the forum.
1268  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 8x Satori Coins Serialnumbers >22750 on: September 10, 2018, 11:16:59 AM
Quoting for images

Since you are a newbie, you need to upload the images along with a piece of paper with your user name and today's date written in it. Use imgur for uploading the images next time so that it would be easier to use the image in forum.
Good luck with the auction
1269  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: September 10, 2018, 04:44:20 AM
Mods are considered to be volunteers and are no way related to being to being the leaders of the community. They are just spam hunters in a legal way. Most of your poll members are popular enough to become a MOD. But being that isn't enough. They should have huge amount of reports in the particular board in which they are being appointed. The user should have gained trust from the community and theymos himself for being appointed. Do you remember rickbig? He isn't much popular but is a very active reporter who just deserved the position of global MOD.  When he was elected, there were very few members who know about him. This shows that just being popular isn't enough to get appointed.

Lutpin might be the top reporter in reporters table based on last year's stats given by theymos. LoyceV has proved themselves to be really trustworthy and is evident from the 10 month altcoin investment and campaigns he conducted during these days. Moreover he is one of the most active reporters who can be considered as a MOD. I don't think we need to put much pressure on JC by appointing him as a MOD as he is already busy with his fit to talk and other projects in educating the newbies and teaching English to non-English people. Vod has been a great asset to the community right from the early days of the forum who can be considered a MOD

P.S This poll may not be considered, but it helps to get a view on what members think about these people.

1274  Other / Meta / Re: Does bitcointalk cause more spam with their rules? on: August 31, 2018, 07:02:19 AM
This post is written with all due respect to Bitcointalk and their mods.  I love this board and visit it exclusively.
This post is about forum and it belongs to Meta Board! Why did you post this in Altcoin Discussion? Move this to Meta by clicking Move Topic in lower left.

I believe a lot of the ideas which are being done to prevent spam are actually causing more spam on this forum.
What makes you say so? The website traffic has reduced considering the traffic present in the start of the year and it is evident from the merit implementation and the reduce in prices of btc and the forum is somewhat quiet nowadays an exception being Alt Boards and Bitcoin Discussion as usual. This had always been a hotbed for spammers to complete their posts! Meta is frequently flooded with hacked and banned account recoveries.

The one sure way to stop spam on this forum is to stop the signature campaigns.
This idea has been discussed quite a couple of times and this won't happen as theymos has completely ruled out this idea. Here is a quote of him saying so,
What are everyone's ideas for improving post quality?

I have mostly ruled out:

 - Removing signatures or sig ads globally.
 - Requiring payment to wear sig ads.
 - Banning account sales.
Except the implementation of merit and deletion of some major mega spam threads often by mods there hasn't been a major attempt to stop spams till now.
The banning of signatures completely would be considered only when merit isn't able to control the spam being generated. It may happen on rare cases only when btc price skyrockets and lot more people join this forum for hunting bounties.

Another issue is the merit system.  Now that it is very difficult to raise up past jr member guess what happens.
Yes, it would be difficult if you are not bothered to learn anything new or post anything constructive. There are handful of people who ranked up using merit. Unless you stick to Alt, Btc Discussions and other spam boards it would be impossible for you to receive your first merit. Members who hasn't received even a single merit in these 7 months is considered to be a poor poster and should never rank up past Jr Member.

The signature campaigns must end if we want to stop spam.  If signature stay the rules should be continued to be studied because I do not believe this is working.
It is the campaign managers who should be punished for not managing their campaign properly and encouraging spams.
1275  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MEW and METAMASK and exchange on: August 27, 2018, 07:45:16 PM
So if I import my keys in the metamask I will not spend gas? because I have some tokens already in MEW but I can integrate this one in DEX
Your understanding of wallets are wrong. The tokens are stored under a particular private key in the eth blockchain
. They are not stored either in MEW or Metamask. Both are just a GUI for you to spend the coins easily. The one who owns the keys owns the coins. Just import your private key in any of the eth wallet and there you go.

On the other hand, transferring of coins from one address to another is a transaction which needs to be signed using the private key and it needs to be mined and for mining, we need to pay the gas. Importing is using a private key in another wallet. For instance, you have btc in Core wallet. At one point of time, your HDD is full and you need to move your coins to electrum. Do you say that your coins are present in Core and not in electrum? You can import the keys in wallet and the coins would be present in your electrum wallet too.
1276  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MEW and METAMASK and exchange on: August 27, 2018, 06:11:46 PM
how mutch we need to spend to join MEW with Metamask?
You don't need to spend a dime to join MEW with Metamask! Why do you need to make an account in MEW or Metamask? Those are just used for viewing and spending your wallet balances and all the coins are stored in the blockchain. Assume it something like GUI used to communicate with the eth blockchain. You can create your own wallet without using a MEW, by just using a dice or by flipping a coin. Private keys are generated which further can be used to spend the coins. Consider the private keys as the key for opening your room of fortune. These private keys can be used up in any trusted eth wallets to retrieve your coins or spend them. Metamask acts as a bridge between your eth wallet and the decentralized apps. They can also be used as wallets. You can download the metamask from chrome web store and can integrate your created eth wallet with it.

can you tell me a good exchange only for erc20 tokens?
ERC20 tokens are listed in either a decentralized exchange commonly called as DEX or a centralized exchange. A decentralized exchange is one in which you hold the private keys of your wallet and the trades occur between peer to peer without a trusted third party. You can just integrate your wallet in the exchange. Some of the popular DEX exchanges are IDEX, Forkdelta, Cryptobridge.
A centralized exchange is one in which your funds are controlled by a third party and the trades never occur peer to peer. They are easy to use but when hacked leads to the complete loss of your funds similar to the Mt.Gox. Some popular centralized exchanges are Binance, Okex, Bitfinex, Huobi.

Can we have a separate board for Altcoin Technical Support & Discussion ?
This was a thread of mine started in April. Some of the members argued that they don't need a Alt Tech Support board(in the sense they don't need a good and healthy discussion to take place in the Alt Section) If they disagree with this, then why should something like a Altcoin Discussion Board exist at first? For the spammers to post some bullshit to complete their weekly criteria?

Alts are really helpful in solving many real world problems which bitcoin cannot. On the other hand, this is not a bitcoin forum! I believe that this forum has evolved into a large cryptocurrency forum!

There are some very common repetitive shit threads which are created at least twice a day for comparing Eth and Bitcoin or some other common alts.
If we really need a good discussion to take place we need to request theymos for the Tech Board or something similar like that and I think it won't happen either. At sometimes I just jump into the 20th-30th page of the board and find real good questions which needs an answer.

Some common bounty threads be like

1. I have X$, in which should I invest (this investment amount may even reach thousands of dollars at times Grin)
2. Will shitcoin beat bitcoin?
3. When will shitcoin moon?
4. When will I become a millionaire?
5. How much have you earned in bounties till now?
6. Job Vs Bounties (Should I leave my job for doing bounties?)

These bounty idiots doesn't even know how a cryptocurrency works and are talking shit in this forum...

Quote
What to do with topics like these, report to a moderator?
Reporting won't solve the problem and there are spams generating endlessly by members now and then. And if the mods lock a mega useless thread, another mega thread is created within seconds.
So, It's better to leave the section untouched to rot and just search for the good threads which are buried in there. Theymos would come to a conclusion, if the board becomes uncontrollable by mods in future.
