1261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Master/Bachelor of Digital Currency Be A Popular Program? on: August 18, 2015, 11:04:50 AM
I believe it will be popular, yes.

If one believe's in Bitcoin, then one must believe in courses like this.
If Bitcoin is the future of money, then courses like this is a must for anyone who wants a career in the field.
1262  Other / Meta / Re: Account buying[help] on: August 18, 2015, 10:47:29 AM
Imagine that I wat to buy an account, someone makes a signed message, to prove it is his account, how do i prove if he sells, thatbI bought it? Because the address he signed with is still his.

You ask them to sign a message that the account was sold to you and belongs to you now.
Then make sure you stake an address you own for the account.
1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Real Problem isn't XT... on: August 18, 2015, 09:54:25 AM
...
Regardless, I really don't understand why people care what he would think anyhow.

He is the only person that when voicing his opinion in this matter, could actually be considered unbiased,
since he was the creator and in theory would make the best choice for Bitcoin/bitcoin, and not for himself.

His decision in this matter, if 100% verified to be him, would end the debate immediately, IMO.

But, as I have said many times, I believe he is no longer living as well.

One man should never have that much power.

Satoshi comes off as a brilliant man, women or group.  They will never return, their opinion is now regarded as gods opinion.. such power is bad.

Satoshi created bitcoin for the people, Satoshi can no longer be involved, Bitcoin cannot have one person/group that decides it's future.

Unfortunately, it seems that it does.

And this whole thing is just childish, and the attitude coming from the developers (both sides) is hurting Bitcoin.
If they cannot come to an agreement about something like this, what will happen when something truly serious comes up?

Well done, we have proven to all enemies of Bitcoin that Bitcoin will be destroyed from the inside.
No need for them to bother.
1264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Whats the Difference when you use BTC? on: August 17, 2015, 03:53:28 PM
Personally, I use it because I am in control of my finances.
You have no idea in how many ways a bank can rip you off just by doing a transaction using a VISA.

Example: Your currency is Euro, you want to buy something in GBP.
You will pay the transactions fees, plus whatever it is the rate your bank sells GBP for.
And believe me it's quite a bit of money just from that transaction.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that they will make that EURO/GBP exchange a few days later when the GBP is higher,
regardless of the fact that you (think you) paid for it a week ago when GBP was .80 EUR and they charged you .90 EUR.

Apart from that, the same rule applies as it does with Bitcoin.
If you are not the holder of your private keys you are not the owner.
Let's not forget the "haircuts" and whatever they can do and get away with it.
1265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Time to Switch from Eligius on: August 17, 2015, 03:39:20 PM
I don't know which pools already have XT, but I want to know why everyone hates Luke Jr?
It's like every 100th post there must be someone dissing him.
Why?
1266  Other / Meta / Re: Guys, there is no censorhip. Stop crying ok? Here read this: on: August 17, 2015, 02:38:50 PM
Quote
Unless you already have 90% consensus, then you need to completely shut your mouth about any proposed hard fork because it is too "contentious" and might give the mods a headache. Any hard fork that doesn't instantly gain consensus should never be talked about unless you have some unbelievable, never-before-heard-by-mankind level of information about it. If you do have such info, then you get to make one single thread about it, and one thread only, so you better make it a thread that is so good that 90% of bitcoiners are in favor of the hard fork. If that one thread doesn't get 90% approval, then tough luck Chuck, because you will need to uncover yet another Earth-shattering, mind-bending, science-defying piece of info about the hard fork if you ever want to make even a single more thread about it. But if you want to make spam posts about shitty alts like Paycoin then, please, be my guest.

Now listen to the BOSS.

No more crying about censorship, or you're all going to concentration camp.

1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: August 17, 2015, 10:54:59 AM
Lol, yeah that was one stupid mistake.
But still, to get life in prison for a crime like that is pretty abhorrent in my opinion.

The FBI made an example out of him. And also, it should be remembered that the judge (Kathleen Forrest) gave him a sentence which was even harsher than the one which was requested by the prosecution. And immediately afterwards, Kathleen Forrest began prosecuting people who commented against her on a blog site, regarding the sentence given to Ross.

How can she prosecute someone for commenting?
On what charge?

Do you have a source to that?
1268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snowden Says Bitcoin is Flawed on: August 17, 2015, 09:28:59 AM
Well, he did say he likes the concept.
Maybe if he get's into it a bit more he will change his mind or even come up with "interesting things" to do, now that he is unemployed and stuff Roll Eyes
1269  Other / Meta / Re: What is wrong with theymos and the other mods? on: August 17, 2015, 09:15:12 AM
Why moved to the alt-coin boards?
I thought Bitcoin XT worked with Bitcoins as an alternative client.
I haven't read or heard anywhere that it functions with any other coin.

Also, I agree that this should be open for discussion and not be censored, not because I support one side or the other but because that is how Bitcoin was built.
Censorship is against what Bitcoin supports IMO.

I do also think that we have way too many threads on the subject.
Perhaps someone should create just ONE thread with all the pros and cons of both clients and the discussion can take place there.
No need for all these threads, nor the drama.
1270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Windows 10 and Bitcoin Discussion on: August 16, 2015, 10:52:36 AM
Format your hard drive & install linux distro such as ubuntu, debian or linux mint. You don't have to worry about your privacy anymore.
Or just use older windows version

true but some users are so used to using windows that they naturally would upgrade to version 10 if it is free.

I have some older versions of windows in VM that I use from time to time but I dont think I will be upgrading to windows 10 anytime in the near future if ever.

IMO nothing is for free.
There is always a catch.

Also, has anybody considered the fact that the new "free" windows come with some sort of mining apps that start as a service (apart from the data mining)?
I have not used win10 (nor am I planning to at the mo), so can someone verify the claims of this OP and also do a little digging around the OS?
1271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: August 14, 2015, 01:20:09 PM
I think it will certainly deter some people from thinking about starting a darknet market, but for most it wont stop them and there will always be people willing to take the risk.

It will deter some people from starting a darknet market and publishing their personal gmail account in relation to it.

I don't think so. Best example: Blake Benthall made the same error on Silkroad 2 and got busted.

What was his sentence btw?
Did he get life without parole?

Eveyone is talking about Ross and I haven't heard about him.
How did he get busted btw?
1272  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The Real Cost of Applying for a New York BitLicense on: August 14, 2015, 09:32:38 AM
Please excuse my ignorance, I did not follow up on this Bitlicense thing as it does not concern me.
But I need to ask this:
Does the Bitclicense apply to exchanges only or to ANY business accepting Bitcoin?
E.g: If a coffee shop accepts Bitcoin, do they need to apply for it?

IANAL but as I understand it, besides the usual financial services (exchanges, lending, etc.) it also applies to "service contract providers" (http://www.dfs.ny.gov/about/whowesupervise.htm) that accept "virtual currencies".

So it would not apply to a shop that sells goods (like coffee), but if you sell a service with any kind of contract and accept virtual currencies, it would apply to you, and this would cover many things from server hosting to a car mechanic, as soon as it's paid with in crypto, and you accept cryptos directly.
If you accept cryptos through a payment processor like BitPay, then you're not concerned as you are paid in fiat (and the BitLicense stuff is BitPay's concern).

Thanks for the answer.
So, from what I gather they are trying to create the "Payment Processors" of crypto.
Surely most businesses will not want to pay the Bitlicense fee and if they want to accept crypt they are left with services like BitPay.
Seems like an attempt to control the transactions IMO.
1273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining is clearly profitable still, why was cex.io allowed to defraud investors on: August 14, 2015, 09:08:41 AM
Is there any way to track if the mining equipment that investors paid for is still being used? I bet they're using it to mine for themselves, they probably took it off ghash.io, could easily join a big Chinese pool without anyone noticing.

Well, they definitely didn't chuck it in the bin.
I don't know how cex cloud mining works but from what I heard from others when you purchase mining equipment you can choose to mine there or have it shipped to you.
Do they not do that?
1274  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The Real Cost of Applying for a New York BitLicense on: August 14, 2015, 08:43:00 AM
what does the bitlicense actually offer bit coin accepting businesses that fit the bitlicense decsription?

Absolutely nothing but a price tag.

It's called a bribe. Not a license.

Legalized bribery is what it is.

Now multiply that figure by 50 for the 50 states, is they were to adopt a similar license, and by a few hundreds, if regional authorities across the world were to follow suit.

And of course you can expect local variations, making it even more expensive.

Hmm, that could mean that it is possible that the price of Bitcoin will rise too because of that.
Then again, maybe not.

1275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Attempted Massacre using Bitcoins - Columbine Style on: August 13, 2015, 03:40:55 PM
Misleading title. How do you perform a Massacre with math or crypto?

Currencies that cannot purchase blackmarket/grey market items and services lack fungibility and are akin to coupons or gift certificates.

Theoretically speaking, it happened many times before with math (and it will happen many times again).
Ever heard of Wall Street? Wink
1276  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you think bitcoin will be by 2020? on: August 13, 2015, 03:23:38 PM
voted 1 bitcoin = 100 because it doesn't say the currency..

exactly!
I don't like these threads anymore they are a bit pointless.

I don't care for the price in 2020. I care for what it is NOW. I care for what I can do with it NOW.

I don't even know if I'll be here in 2020  Grin

Yeah, and apart from that you don't know the price of any currency by 2020.
Who knows, maybe Bitcoin will replace fiat or Bitcoin might die.
Then again, most people expect the dollar to die first.

That being said, how can you put a price on Bitcoin if you don't know how to price it?
1277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When is Second Life starting to use Bitcoin? on: August 13, 2015, 03:16:29 PM
Why would second life give up their monopoly over their currency..

^^^ This....

That would be.... the Third Life?  LOL Cheesy
1278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi in MS office example pic on: August 13, 2015, 03:13:09 PM
That's fucking funny. Subtle advertisement by Microsoft? What else can be? or whoever wrote that blog is a bitcoiner and used him as in inside joke so we would mention his article here. In any case, it worked.

Yeah, just a blogger taking some artistic liberties while making the post.  Doesn't look likes it's a BTC endorsement by MS in any way shape or form.  Still a cool find though!

Yeah, whoever it is spelled Gavin wrong....
But it is a nice promotion for Bitcoin one can say.
Don't you think?
1279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: August 12, 2015, 04:27:28 PM
One thing I know for sure is if you're going to start a market you need to make damn sure you've got everything covered and as a minimum I wouldn't reside in the united States or any country that has an extradition treaty with them. Go start it in some country in the middle of nowhere but personally I don't think the paranoia would be worth the risk even for multi millions and I bet if you ask Ross now he would certainly say it wasn't worth it.

And I bet that if you asked him while he was still free and running Silk Road he would say it was....
Let's be honest here Wink

I do agree with all of you that life without parole is worse than death.
There is however an extremely small (more like almost non-existant) chance he might be able to get a possibility for parole on his appeal.
1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who thinks Gavin Anderson knows who Satoshi is? on: August 12, 2015, 03:01:41 PM
Gavin should have an idea, but he is not saying anything. You cannot tell me Satoshi would hand over his creation with the Alert keys, to someone he did not have a close relationship with. It's possibly the biggest technology since the internet and you just hand over the key to the guards at the gate?

Gavin and some other people know who he or she is, but they protect him or her. Secrets only stay secrets for so long, and then someone spill the beans.
But dont you feel curious, that no one couldnt find the true identity of satoshi even any government secret agent or hacker? I think there is a possibility that its a fake figure to distract people from the real one who created this bitcoin.

Well, they are still to catch Variety Jones because they either truly don't know who he is, or he is/was working for them.....
Hmm.... Roll Eyes
