1301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [VNL] VanillaCoin.net [WhirlpoolX Algo] [Whitepaper Inside] [Poloniex] Update! on: March 18, 2015, 06:04:54 PM
We are being added to whattomine: http://www.whattomine.com/coins/130-vnl-whirlpoolx

Can some of the miners check if the numbers are okay? Thank you.
1302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [VNL] VanillaCoin.net [WhirlpoolX Algo] [Whitepaper Inside] [Poloniex] Update! on: March 18, 2015, 02:30:11 PM

So when did you shed your noob shill persona and become a developer ? lol

You are seriously quoting what I commented 1.5 years ago when I just got to know what crypto is?

Meanwhile for you, the same timespan wasn't enough to educate yourself on how to spot the difference between bitcoin clones and new developments. Please check your comment again that was in response to me. You clearly think that the WhirlpoolX algo is the only thing this project has to offer meaning you:

1) Didn't read the whitepaper
2) Didn't check the code
3) Didn't read the vanillacoin.net forums

Still you are here and ranting about nonsense. Next time pay someone if you are too lazy to do these things for your own research.

And now you are doing personal attacks because someone points out your enormous stupidity? Please read again what you responded to my comment aimed at you and how you kept going on about the algo, like anyone mentioned it in the first place.

Edit: not sure if you missed it during your heavy (and long) research hours, but the developer is "john-connor"

Edit2: everything adds up now, you seriously never visited the official forum, or checked who pushes the github commits, or read the ANN, or anything so far. You have no clue who develops here, what role Wolf0 has or what role I have in this. I guess you never even joined the IRC discussions right? Why are you even talking here, you made less research than what the avarage c-cex trollbox shill does on coins.

the built-from-scratch codebase which isn't a clone from the bitcoin.
It's rather very deep refactoring of bitcoin codebase. Don't get me wrong, that's an excellent and long awaited thing (license issues aside). Bitcoin developers are way too conservative, code shows it's age and is sometimes a pain to work with. But the new code is so fresh I can't even use testnet to test my miner - despite the code for it is already there! Sad

We can agree that the main idea is bitcoin because that's the first crypto, but else than that this is something different. The legendary member had no clue that this isn't a clone of bitcoin and doesn't know that algo =/= code.

Just wanted to explain it in easy terms so he gets it.

News 17/03

  • backupwallet feature is finished, will be implemented in the next update
  • private key import feature is being worked on (importprivkey), will be implemented in the next update
  • the visual bug during staking is being monitored and worked on
  • Wolf0 will soon release an open source miner for AMD GPUs
  • hardfork was successful, exchanges and pools are up to date, please update your personal wallets also in case you didn't yet
  • ETA for the next update is less than a week
  • tipbot is live on the IRC channel

John as always, quite productive and amazing. Thanks for the update.

Yeah, John got my maximum respect as a developer, rarely see anyone working nonstop on his/her project on a daily basis. Vanillacoin has also a unique codebase, so it's probably more time consuming.

Indeed. So unique that it sucked back over 2gb (1.5gb upload/ 0.5gb download) of my bandwidth in less than 6 hours. Thats pretty freakin odd considering how only 41%/ 39mb of the blockchain actually made it to my HDD. WTF is going on here ?

And .. should I be surprised to see the shitalgo King preying on yet another shitalgo cpu only coin ?

Running 24/7 - 754MB so far (in/out) in a month.

uTorrent as a reference 24/7 - 83.17GB (in/out) in a month.

Didn't get the second part, it's not a CPU only coin.

EDIT: uTorrent in past 31 days - 2.6TB, watched wrong section.

This, like SPR and many others, didn't start that way.

How much VNL was gpu mined before the (deoptimized) kernel became public ?

If you are talking about GPU performance in the early days and now, it stays pretty much the same +20-30% maybe (don't know exact numbers), Wolf0 still has not published his optimized kernels yet.

Either your english isn't very good or you are ignoring the obvious.

The answer to my last question is, ALOT. lol

Just look through Wolf0's posts and count the cpu only coins he and his collaborators have created.

The first: Actually yes, it's not as well as I wanted it to.
The second: I'm ignoring the fact, that you are a troll and trying my best to answer to you as to a common folk.
The third and the last: VNL is not CPU only coin, so I don't care how many coins Wolf0 has already created or will create in the future, he has no connections with this project.

VNL was launched as cpu only. They were using the gpu kernel(s) long before it was made public.

You have been duped, scammed, ripped off..

So you call this project a long con, a code which was checked by some well known people/devs (not going to go into names) and they were amazed by it, and please remember, this isn't a clone of bitcoin, it took more than 5 mins of copy pasting to build this. So let it be mate, if this turns out to be a scam I'll simply leave crypto and delete my account here.

Meanwhile please moderate yourself and troll somewhere else.

Ok..ok.. 10 minutes. Tongue Considering how many of these "new" algos you guys have already put out, you must be running out of easy combos to use. Wink

IF the code really was that Shocked amazing Shocked, why did you make it so easy for wolf0 ? Did you even bother with coding a gpu kernel ?

I'm still waiting for an explanation about the 2gb of bandwith your client drank the other night.

@all

I'll repeat..
Quote

That said, it is quite possible that one person could make a coin seem legit and popular. All it takes is several spam bots and 5-10 BTC (if that lol) for voting/bribes and faking market volume/demand.

Your comment just shows that you have no clue on what your talking about. If you take a second and try to understand my comment and also check the OP and the sourcecode you will see that I (and the people I'm talking about) didn't call the algo amazing (which is also something special though), but the built-from-scratch codebase which isn't a clone from the bitcoin.

The X11/X15/scrypt/you name it coins all have the same codebase: bitcoins. You came here without even reading the whitepaper or going through the source on github. I honestly doubt Wolf0 and his friends ever built something even similar (in case what your saying is true, that they build coins, which I doubt).

Is this enough reasoning to make you go away? Legendary member and you really have no clue on what your fuding? Can you even read the code?

WALL OF TEXT

Hey everybody false alarm.  I was just stupid lol  I figured out what was going on.  Sorry to destroy this thread with insane amounts of text!! bwahahahha

Please edit both your original comment and your quote if it's not an issue. It's really too long.

John posted this on IRC: <john-connor> Jumping balance, inputs failed, stuck transactions all better. It will be in the next release.

Beware, this coin is released under corporate-unfriendly GNU Affero General Public License I had to read, remember and then re-implement last XOR step of WhirlpoolX. Just two lines of code, not a big deal, but...
The AGPL license forbids derivative works to be distributed without source. We are aware. Cool

Thank you for your support.

I fully support AGPL as a choice, corporate entities shouldn't just profit from closed source developments that are based on open source projects.

Please spread the hashes around the pools and don't stick to Suprnova !

Better chance of that happening if the nonce-pool link in the OP worked.

Need to replace https://vnl.nonce-pool.com link from OP to http://vnl.nonce-pool.com

Done, thank you for pointing it out.

;)does the dev have a roadmap ?

No roadmap atm, the developer doesn't want unnecessary hype and bubbles. We are currently beta, but you can check the news section here or IRC for daily updates. John just pushed another update to github.

You can be sure though that this project has lots of things coming in the future.

Seems like the balance display bug is still there. I can see x1.5 of my coins after several hours of keeping the wallet up. And I doubt they won't disappear after restart Smiley

Run 'checkwallet' to see if everything is fine.
Code:
{
    "wallet check passed": true
}

If not, then 'repairwallet' in the console to fix gui mismatched coins.
Code:
{
    "mismatched spent coins": 4,
    "amount affected by repair": 316
}

Remember, it's only graphical error.

Backup wallet.dat everytime before using repairwallet.

Hardfork with new wallet features and POS changes, please update now and read the news section for information regarding the changes

In case you didn't get the fresh wallet from vanillacoin.net downloads try deleting cache or private browsing.

Is the disappearing coins fixed?

I updated and now I have less coins than before, lost all my staked coins. Or is this my true total?

There was a client bug with stuck transactions (0 confirmation) where you had to use curl and repairwallet to reset it. Console is implemented into the wallet after the update and the "--erase-wallet-transaction" should solve similar problems if occuring.

The client has a visual bug, by staking where you get "accounted" several coins which are not present in the history (this is just a visual glitch, no coins are being added), the POS is working perfectly meanwhile. After the resart the true balance is present. This issue is being worked on.

I'm not a fan of asking dumb questions but the wallet link in the OP is the correct updated version?

OP has the corrent version, delete cache in the browser or open a private session if you still get the old wallet.

what I should expect in GTX 970 ? 500Mhash is possible ?

Around 200 from the open source nvidia miner that can be found in the OP.

Question, I'm on a mac and have 1000 vnl in my wallet, it's been maybe 3 or 4 days. i've turned on mining, got about 1.5mh/s. i've had no stakes and nothing mined in this time...

Is there something I should do to both stake and mine correctly? Or is this normal?

Any suggestions you have would be great!

You should stake if your wallet is unlocked.

You can also mine if you want, but you have almost 0 chance to find anything atm with your wallet since we already have gpu miners out who are pool mining and the hash is several GHs atm with a high difficulty.

Try your luck with the faucet instead of mining imho.

When can we expect new wallet to come out?

No exact ETA, but John wants to push the update on exchanges/pools in a few hundred blocks, but idk if thats realistic atm. Keep reading the forums/IRC for an exact date soon.

What profit per day from one GPU r9 290? thank you.

You can calculate your coins/day with jumping on IRC and usign the !est <MHs> command with the bot.
