1301  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Who the hell is still mining on GHash.IO? GTFO that pool already!!! on: June 14, 2014, 08:01:09 AM
24 h hashrate of GH is 43% again, so stop worrying.

Even if they have 51% for a short time, they would have to actively want to do something malicious in order to cause any harm.

I am wondering why nobody is building an equally awesome pool so there will be less problems in the future.
1302  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 14, 2014, 07:40:56 AM
Sry, yes i did get up at the wrong side of the bed.

Anyhow, with every computing appliance, energy in equals pretty much heat out, as energy cannot be destroyed.
1303  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 14, 2014, 07:25:11 AM
They are producing pretty much the amount of heat they draw in power... Why is this a recurring question?

What do you think happens with the power inside the unit? I think it is extremely unlikely that a major amount of new particles are produced, or the energy is expelled via radiation. (Except from maybe infrared)

As to high temperatures, it can handle over 30°C but might run a little slower.
1304  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: H/w Hosting Directory & Reputation on: June 14, 2014, 05:52:11 AM
They definately need better customer service for miners if they are serious about the whole thing.

My unit has been with them for 48 hours according to the DHL information, and is still not set up.

They charge 150€ in setup fees and then donīt set the unit up within an acceptable timeframe?

This was my test unit and i told them that i would be interested in a much bigger solution, but with them waiting two days to complete less than 10 minutes of work, i donīt see that happening.

I am loosing 36$ per day due to their inaction. I am going to try and get them to deduct that amount from the setup fee, as customer service at that level is a joke.

My local DC set up the unit in less than 10 minutes, and the guy had never seen a bitcoin miner. The Advania people are supposed to know their way around one and have indeed set up atleast one sp10 before this.

If they had any questions, they could have one of the tech people contact me, and i gave them more information than needed already, even including a setup guide with the shipment.

1305  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [WORLDWIDE]Bitmine - 950 GH/S 1500 USD - Next day delivery. on: June 13, 2014, 08:58:09 AM
I received it Tuesday. Here are some pics:

This is how it arrived at my house. The blade that was displaced wasnīt screwed into the unit well, as half of itsīscrews were rolling around in the box.

You can also see that the miner is "caved in" at the left side.

After carefully reseating the blade, you can see that the two caps are broken off:

I didnīt find the caps anywhere, so i assume they were broken before shipment.

The lowest blade wasnīt propely connected to the power source, so i had to attach it again.

As already mentioned the fans are way louder than the ones used in the blue units.
1306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why is BITMAIN selling used products ? on: June 13, 2014, 08:39:05 AM
Right, what I mean is that we have not seen any asian company developing and finishing a complete 28nm product so far.

I am curious to see it with Bitmain, but I have they feelling that they will make a smaller jump down to 40nm rather than 28nm.

Just my thoughts.
Innosilicon is a Chinese company....

They have developed both the 28nm A1 and 28nm A2 (which is a litecoin mining chip).

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is power consumption. If they can get 0.5W at 32nm, i donīt care.
Anything above that would be bad, as Bitfury already sells 0.785W/GH 3.5 TH miners.

He also got a good funding round of 20M USD. He is either going to mass produce that rig or do a die shrink to get even better power consumption. (or both)

There really shouldnīt be much of a market for 1w/GH devices come August.
1307  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [WORLDWIDE]Bitmine - 950 GH/S 1500 USD - Next day delivery. on: June 13, 2014, 08:17:29 AM
It looks like my unit has more than damage on the case.

With one blade, 2 caps are broken off.

The unit only gets 900GH. That is way off the advertised spec. Dont buy at bit-tech.

On top of that the unit is considerably louder than the previous one i had.
1308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why is BITMAIN selling used products ? on: June 13, 2014, 08:06:09 AM
I wonder why the do not open preorders like the did with the S2 Batch1.

I am so curious to see an asian company producing a 28nm product.
I am not referring to clones designed by Bitmine.
The A1 chip is actually owned by Innosilicon.

Bitmine only has the right to chip sales in Europe (and America?) because they payed a part of the development cost.

Bitmine just didnīt see that chinese companies would sell the finished product all over the world.
1309  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why is BITMAIN selling used products ? on: June 13, 2014, 08:00:31 AM
I heard that Bitmains` S3 28nm chip should be out soon.

I guess it will hit the market sometime around the sp30. Will be interesting how their power usage will be, as their 55nm chip only gets ~1.1W/GH in deployed equipment.

However, that should be enough to get to around 0.5W/GH at 28 nm. Letīs see wether they will be delayed with their chips or not.

@ topic

Ofcourse they sell used equipment. They build in huge batches and then deploy at their DCs.

They then sell as much as they can, giving you 3 months guarantee on the equipment. Atleast they know it will work well.
1310  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [ANN]Massive Data Center in Montreal Nows Opens for Colocation Hosting of Miners on: June 13, 2014, 07:56:26 AM
These prices are ridiculously high.

I have an Antminer which draws ~1kW hosted for 90$ per month.

I admit that it is one of the easier rigs to cool, but at these prices you are more expensive than standard high density DCs.
1311  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GHASH.IO NOW 47% IN THE LAST 24 hrs on: June 13, 2014, 07:51:26 AM
Relax, cex own hardware will be pointed to another pool automatically once GH gets too close to 50%.

If anyone builds a pool as good as GH, with same fees and merged mining capabilities, i am sure people will switch.

In the meantime, it is just one of the best pools around here, so naturally there will be many users.
1312  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: H/w Hosting Directory & Reputation on: June 13, 2014, 07:37:18 AM
My unit arrived at Thor Datacenter yesterday.

I hoped they would be able to set up my sp10 the same day, especially as they should know their way around the unit (as they already had set up roadstress unit).

Apparently that wasnīt the case and after providing them more information yesterday, i hope that the unit gets set up today.

At my local DC it took around 10 minutes for a guy who had never heard of a bitcoin miner before to set up the sp10, that is how easy it is.

Will update once everything is running.
1313  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [WORLDWIDE]Bitmine - 950 GH/S 1500 USD - Next day delivery. on: June 11, 2014, 04:31:20 PM
I received a pretty banged up unit yesterday.

Testing now wether reaching advertised hashrate.
1314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 09:46:51 AM
Any numbers on the Pickaxe chips yet Spondoolies? Kind of more interested in what Spondoolies does here vs. AM chips and AM based hardware.
Last time i heard, these are still highly experimental and therefore spondoolies wonīt give you a clear answer (as they simply donīt know yet).

I guess information will be available once sp30s have shipped and their tech-team have some real results and hopefully accurate simulations.

It also looks like these chips will be deployed differently, and not necessarily sold to individual consumers but managed by spondoolies (possibly in datatank containers? who knows.)

It will all come down to how the mining business will develop, as half a year in Bitcoin world is a long timeframe and everything could happen.
1315  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 09:37:50 AM
Spondoolies chips can operate up to 119°C and are kept from overheating by dynamic, individual clock adjustments (on a per-chi basis).

I doubt that AM will implement that within a reasonable timeframe.

Anyway, i think we have gotten off-topic here.

If you like these units so much, buy them instead of spondoolies, once they become available.

I think the preorder vs in stock debate has been done multiple times and both optios have valid arguments.

In the end the customer is the "invisible hand of the market".
1316  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 09:26:14 AM
They wouldnīt be nearly silent though, as you would need to push enough air through there to cool the ~700W per cube.

Looks like there is only room for 2 fans. And there is a huge selection on powerful and quiet 120mm+ fans.
I think you are not quite undestanding these issues of thermal engineering correctly.

If the unit uses 700W, that is the amount of energy that needs to be pushed out of the system.

When one 120mm fan needs to push enough air through there, it is going to be loud, as you will probably need atleast a 90cfm fan.

This will only be sufficient if these chips have the same temperature threshholds than spondoolies, and the unit wonīt overheat other components at those temperatures.

It will also force you to get the input temperatures to around the same level of an sp10.

1317  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 09:10:28 AM
It seems like the cube design is actually 4 of the mentioned boards. You would still need two of them to get into the sp10īs hashrate range.

They wouldnīt be nearly silent though, as you would need to push enough air through there to cool the ~700W per cube.

It still remains that power efficiency of these is worse than even the sp10. These cubes are currently not available on the market compared to the sp10.

By the time any of these hit the market, spondoolies will have sp30s ready. Those have double the power efficiency and you will be left with some power gobbling, inefficient device.
1318  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 09:00:48 AM
It is more difficult to deploy as you will produce the guardian knot with all the PSU and management cables required by buying 7 of these compared to one easy sp10.

Sp10s are 15% more power efficient.

Also, these will not be produced by AM as they state in their own thread, meaning you will be left with some cut-throat company and probably not getting a good price.
1319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 08:46:43 AM
It is exponentially more difficult to deploy, needs more power per GH than an sp10, doesnīt come with a PSU and takes up more space which transfers to higher hosting costs.
Management is also more difficult than with an easy web interface.

Have fun building your cable kraken with these.

It is a childīs toy.
1320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 10, 2014, 08:39:03 AM
Seriously, if you donīt like pre-ordering then dont.

You will most likely be stuck with a technically inferior product with higher power draw and lower hashrate though.

This is the free market after all, and if there is demand for this, spondoolies will supply it.

They had in stock hardware of sp10s for a while, but as demand then increased, they arenīt able to produce any faster on such short notice.

Companys also need to be able to predict demand, and pre-orders are a great way of ensuring spondoolies will be able to ship the highest amount of rigs in the shortest time available.

If you donīt want a company doing pre-orders, that company will most likely end up mining with their own equipment. Is that what you prefer?

Also, AM Gen3 devices will not get much below 1w/GH at the wall, so yeah... seen that. Come Q3/Q4 they will be expensive doorstops.
