Or possibly someone just trying to find the best rate to cash out some large pre-halving investment.

TL;DR: magnetic nanoparticles are for the use of magnets in cell transfection, nothing else. Using them for mRNA vaccines makes no sense as nobody is being asked to go through a gigantic magnet afterwards, are they?

If the vaccines were magnetic, there would surely be plenty of pictures of the vials sticking to magnets (though I'm guessing the cap may very well be steel). Though it's BS just on the face of it anyway as is the 5G stuff.
1304  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 12, 2021, 08:22:05 PM
And every once in awhile we have to explain to people that yes statistics work, yes the vaccines are damn effective, and the number of people who will die from COVID at this bitcoin conference is a simple function of the (number of people-number of vaccinated people) times the infection factor times the 2-3% death rate. It's as basic as that.

There's a demographic component to the death rate that you've failed to account for unless this is a Bitcoin conference for geriatrics. Also people who have either natural or acquired immunity and (in the other direction) those who get infected even with the vaccine.

This news item is simply Bitcoin FUD to go along with all the other Bitcoin FUD that's floating around at the moment.
1305  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 12, 2021, 08:04:04 PM

Dozens out of 50,000 doesn't sound like anything newsworthy.

The news has become almost completely agenda driven, monomaniacally so in some cases so what is "newsworthy" is sadly no longer what you'd think.

Number go down.

My cousin's only remaining BTFD order still stands untouched @ $30,100. It was nearly filled a few days ago...

I want the price to go up, but also really want him to BTFD... So I'll be happy either way it goes.

Regardless, we all know where it will eventually go, so a little touch down on $30k won't harm anyone. And I may also be able to BTFD. Have some fiat lying around, been thinking about it for some time, even though I've said to myself that I will try to never buy again, no need to be greedy. But $30k will surely be very tempting.

Yeah, we just got adopted by a country which should be astoundingly bullish and yet here we are. Seems almost certain that someone has a lot of profit to take.
1307  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: June 12, 2021, 12:21:17 PM

I just noticed that those green/red glasses in the ChartBuddy pics have their colors the wrong way around. They don't match the sides of the chart line colors. And if the guy in the avatar wears them, he won't be able to see shit.

Actually, it may not be wrong... I need to read more on Anaglyph 3D. Is ChartBuddy really a 3D image? I don't have (never had) such glasses to try. Can Richy_T clarify?

Dang no, you're correct. And I'm usually so particular about the side. I believe those were once used in the avatar and would have been facing the other way I think so it seems I got lazy.

Chartbuddy is not actual 3D, merely a projection. Though I have created an actual 3D version in the past. The 3D affectation is mainly because the sides are red and green.

Nothing in my statements would create unpredictable anything, there is ZERO chance in the question I was proposing.

I wasn't saying they were. I was explaining why I support a scheme such as you mention. Running systems at full capacity all the time is well known to cause instability as there's no way to accommodate temporary surges.

I just don't see how what you're advocating amounts to anything other than bigger blocks since smaller blocks have long been a feature of having fewer transactions. But if you say that's not your intent, I'll respect that.
1311  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 08:16:26 PM
Agree, this is the gist of the story. And yes, residency program would bring people, although I am not sure how many countries you can visit with a passport from El Salvador (at least right now). Only those second citizenship programs that allow for widely accepted non-visa travel are successful.

Visa waivers are hella convenient, it's true but obtaining visas was not especially onerous if I recall back in the day when it was more widely required and should be even less so in modern technological times. One would hope that ES would be trying to join visa waiver arrangements if the residency thing took off which would be even more incentive to get their crime under control. Of course, if certain countries wanted to punish ES for its Bitcoin stance, that could make things awkward.

Didn't someone say $50k by a certain day.. Monday or Tuesday?  Could be... Could be.  $50k does not seem out of reach, either.. even to have a quickly 6 hour to 12 hour candle in that direction would not be outside of  reasonableness, even if that would be $13k in a fairly short period of time.. and I would not be dropping from shock from such a reverse Bart - even if some folks might consider that kind of short term pumpening of about 35% UPpity in a short time to be outrageous... .. but whatever, not really expecting such a thing to happen, even if it could happen.

Last I checked, we are still a bit above the exponential which means that there is definitely strong potential for down since it has held well. I really need to calculate the parameters for that so I can get some actual values.

My former maid just asked my wife about Bitcoin since she's from El Salvador. I need to figure out the best way for her to get paid over the LN and send it to her family without being too complicated. Strike is not available here in Panama yet.

I'll be interested to hear how that shakes out. Things like podcasting as cAPSLOCK was describing, are what LN was originally intended for (and fair enough). How it works out when its outside of its ballpark will be interesting. Custodial solutions not so much.
1314  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 07:53:08 PM
It simply self manages itself will not have to be addressed again. The market sets the size, as long as you can create parameters that restrict the size from changing from attacks then this shouldn't be an issue as you can economically restrict expansion with a EXPONENTIAL fee schedule.

But as stated, Bitcoin already coped fine with blocks of 1MB and below (Luke JR may disagree of course) so what benefit could there be other than to allow for larger blocks? That's all I'm saying. I don't want to badger you about this. It seems fundamentally I'd find your proposal acceptable. I would say that unpredictable fees are a much bigger issue than high fees. In fact, unpredictable fees exacerbate high fees since if you want to be sure you get in a block in a timely manner, you not only have to use a fee that's good currently but you have to add extra in case of a surge. And if everyone is doing the same, that may not even be enough.
1315  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 07:23:34 PM
Anarcho communists want decentralisation but while anarcho capitalists throw in the idea that we'll all be cooperatively free market property protecting volunteers, they believe that everyone will be unselfish, freely trading, sharing society with no need for property...because everyone cooperates and stuff.

Both are flawed in their reliance upon people agreeing to the final terms of life with no rulers. But at least they are on the right path with the no rulers part.

If your societal system does not take into account that some people will want to do X while you think they should do Y, then your system does not work for everyone.

Yes, the anarcho bit is fundamentally incompatible with the communist bit and if you want to see how that works out in practice, Dorsey is the poster boy for abuse of power.

I do like the idea that they are accepting Bitcoin for residency. That could possibly become their main source of revenue and replace all taxation as people want to join their thriving economy.

That could be interesting. If it became a regular thing, it might lead to ES cleaning up their act and becoming a lot more visitor friendly.

Probably watch for the US increasing the cost of renouncing citizenship again soon.
1317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 11, 2021, 03:42:32 PM

Dynamic size can also result in smaller blocksize and I'm not sure all those people yelling big blocker are grasping that.

I mean, sure it could. And you could also be putting a bigger engine in your car so you could go faster in reverse. Nothing is needed for smaller blocks other than fewer transactions. Certainly lowering the block size limit dynamically wouldn't seem to server a useful purpose.

But I wouldn't want to put words into your mouth (and apologies if I have). What do *you* see as the benefits of a dynamic block size limit?

He is such an interesting "hero" in the BTC space.  He is seemingly anti a lot of the right-libertarian/anarchist vibe so strong in the Bitcoin world.  He seems a bonafide techno-leftist, and yet he has very FIRMLY fallen in with the maxi sort of position.

He is apparently an anarcho-communist and has a tattoo which seems to confirm it.

He's not a friend of freedom.

By the way, I will acknowledge that China appears to be ramping up their level of severity in the actual "China bans bitcoin" (for reals this time) arena.  Yet, it does not hurt to reiterate how it seems that their "china bans bitcoin" in late 2016 really fucked over quite a few of their peeps because as a result of the "china bans bitcoin" that time, they likely had quite a few regular folks (rather than the elites) who had quite a few of their funds (anything then on China exchanges) frozen up for something like a year - and seems like it was more than a year.. and guess what happened in 2017 during that time that some china regular peeps had their funds locked up on exchanges?  sure some of them were able to still make sure that they had bitcoin exposure by going through local bitcoins and perhaps some other means, but it did seem that their late 2016  "china bans bitcoin" was problematic and impactful.. but not really problematic and impactful on bitcoin overall, but instead problematic and impactful on certain parts of their citizens.

I guess one factor is that in the past, mining was bringing in a whole lot of $$$US. If China has intentions of ditching the petrodollar, they might be a lot less interested in having USD come into the country. I don't think this is likely any more real than it has been in the past but with USD inflation going the way it is, it seems like the odds may have shifted.

It will not be very many years before tech gets to where we can move the blocksize up.

So I think it is still worth talking about.

-Currently I am mining on a 32thread 16 core CPU I bought for $700.  In a number of years 16 core cellphone processors will be a thing. (Not for mining for the most part, but for all the hashing done to validate things quicly enough)
-$400 will get you a 16T hard drive today.
-5G has Terabyte speeds at low latency WITHOUT WIRES.

For reference, the RPi 4 is based on the ARM-Cortex A72 which is from 2014. The Raspberry Pi computers are not designed to be bleeding edge and they are (I believe) run with a small technical team which means it takes time for them to get to market. Also, I'm not sure how much it's changed but I seem to recall they had trouble getting certain technical specs from the manufacturers.
