Farmers sometimes place luminous tubes next to electric fencing to check if it works, when there's a power pulse the tube lights up.

That's part of the rationale why this here "dude's" preference would be the henna tattoo, and I would imagine that they hurt less worser, too (not that I am speaking from experience beyond speculative observations).

Just don't do black henna.

right, but what was the source? I think @MofA gave one plausible suggestion, maybe you have another?

MofA sounds probably most likely but I was thinking that maybe the lightning messed up your local transformer station and they were feeding you bum voltage.

Did it also occur with neighbors? If not you may want to get your local ground checked.

here is the weird 'induced" light..it was not flickering, steady.

Halogen? Was this during the power outage? It looks like you were getting some low voltage through your home circuits.

OT: a strange thunderstorm yesterday in H-town. Lightning mostly at a very sharp angle, instead of usual where most lightning is typically close to the right angle.
Lost power for a while, but then some strange electrical event occurred.
Some bulbs, especially those that are 'new' (economical) type started glowing in red (not white or yellow) and several electrical outlets (I assume those with fuses) started a slight buzz (which I recorded) for a good 15-20 min, then stopped.

I am not an electrician, but what could have caused it? Some residual charge in the air? It was very weird, never seen/heard anything like that.

sideways lightning, bulbs glowing red, outlets 'buzzing', I don't know of any natural electrical  thunderstorm phenomena that can produce those kind of effects ... that sounds well, unbelievable, have you considered alien activity in the area? Or some other kind of radiation, increased solar proton flux? What latitude are you at?

Hmm. Could be a brown-out. Under-powered bulbs *could* do weird things (though white LEDs tend to be lit or not but sometimes there are extra colored LEDs in there for various reasons) and under-powered equipment can buzz. A fuse is just a wire so won't do anything in itself.

This is all I. Preparation for 2024 election trump returns points out bidens fuckup and crushes out Afghan government.

We (non-royal of course) need another term of Trump like we need another hole in our "collective" head.

For certain people, those are acceptable terms.

I agree with your idea about the ongoing looting of the desperate twats, Richy.. but imminent failure/Armageddon seems a wee bit of a road too far, at least from my perspective.

I agree. Not Armageddon but failure to a degree. I don't think we'll go Venezuela bad but it's not going to be fun.

So, a lot of people gloating right now, but riddle me this, what were they supposed to do? Lean back and say "it's ok, you can kill thousands of people in NYC and other places for no reason at all and we will just let you do it, no repercussions what so ever"?
Running the taliban out of Afghanistan and killing Usama was the right thing to do, what was wrong was not going all in for a very long time. You can't change a society in 20 years, it take maybe 100 years.

The Taliban was largely irrelevant to us other than sheltering Al Quaeda (largely a US invention). Osama was eventually located in Pakistan (if the official story is true). All that was needed for the Taliban was to give them a swift kick in the pants and continue to do so on an as-needed basis. Once it was clear that Osama had made like a tree, we should have been out of there. Why we were farting around there for 20 years is beyond me (Oh wait, my cynicism is switched off).

I have a feeling it will still take at least 10 to 20 years, but if they can see it happening now, then can find ways to delay the inevitable, but they will try to delay it anyway.

I've been saying it's coming "sometime" for a while but now I feel it's imminent. What's going on in the US has all the elements of looting while the looting's good. The cracks have been showing for a while and BRICS haven't been idle. It's getting a bit far into this year but I think we could see something major within 12 months.

The trick is the maintenance. Roads and helicopters.

Which opens another existential discussion/question: why do we have to have money (be it BTC or whatever) and therefore "buy" our freedom? Weren't we supposed to be born with freedom?

Well... Just another example of WO and Ivory Tower blending "zusammen"...

Depends on the freedom. You're free to wander out into the world and starve to death. You'll never be free from the laws of thermodynamics.
1092  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 15, 2021, 02:30:55 AM

Not for a self contained unit, your thinking of the actual home heaters that plumb into the existing system I think.

Those have come a long way as well and I might pick one up next year or if a ac unit bites it this year.

^^^ this is a self contained one.

The important thing to remember for heat pumps is they don't work well if the outside temperature drops below about 40F (about 4C). I have a dual gas/heat pump system which gives pretty good results.

In Germany ALL! the big news media sites started doing affiliate marketing, having thousands of pages in the search engines with "top 10 best toaster" "top 10 best pc mouse" etc. As you say, they are history soon. Due to their fake news, working for variant agendas who pay them (eg. Bill Gates is heavily in in Germany), many (still too less) people woke up and understand more and more you can not trust news media anymore. So, not so many visit their sites = less money from ads, more agendas enter the market and pay em because it gets cheaper to buy your self fake reputation or push your agenda through news.

They were on borrowed time as soon as the first TCP/IP connection was made. The ex-cathedra model can't stand in a world where everyone can be a source of information.
1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2021, 12:51:46 PM
They are suppose to bring news coverage that is not bias but they never do. I think there are more examples of news using stories to click bait and push a agenda than there is them being transparent and showing us the facts in a non bias way. We are in the world of click bait and they use that because they get more clicks and they benefit from that because it translates to more money for them.

MSM is dying too. I think that plays a lot into things.
1095  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2021, 06:00:00 AM
Nice attempt at gaslighting, you spamming little shit.

Here are the facts. You collected bitcoins for an investment, and you repaid fewer bitcoins. Despite the obvious loss, you claimed 100%+ ROI in dollar value, even though you never collected dollars. Now you're taking this even further and assigning today's dollar value to bitcoins that you repaid, and original (2012) dollar value to bitcoins that you didn't repay, to further embellish your imaginary profit.

But hey, some people in this thread believe in lizard conspiracy so your spam might work. Good luck.

I didn't realize that his counter to 1BTC=1BTC had ulterior motives.
1096  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2021, 12:34:54 AM
I often see people make this claim but it simply is not true.  If that were the case then taxes would certainly be easier, but it isn't.  $1=$1 but 1 BTC does not equal 1 BTC, at least in the eyes of the law.  It's all fun and games to pretend that Bitcoin is it's own thing, but it isn't.  I feel like people with this attitude are LARPing as Bitcoiners, but actually have no idea what they're doing, don't pay taxes, and likely don't even understand what Bitcoin is.  I'd love to see the face of someone's accountant when they utter the phrase, "1 BTC is 1 BTC" as that is the sort of stupidity that people tell stories about to their friends over a beer and a laugh.

Now, see, I feel like people who don't have this attitude are LARPing as Bitcoiners, have no idea what they're doing and likely don't even understand what Bitcoin is.

This is in error. The Bitcoin one should say 100 BTC Wink

In the sense of a mistake? At that time, $1000 could buy ~100BTC

Yes. 1BTC is still 1BTC. inferior currencies are much less interesting.

When I run into stuff like this I can only think that an immutable decentralised ledger of some form that publicly holds the truth of things would be so much better. All land should be on some blockchain breaking down the exact coordinates of the land. Actually, I know someone who was working on this years ago.

There's no reason people can't trade their well defined property easily.

"Code as law" falls over pretty quickly in such cases as there is often a need for human intervention. This is a big problem I have with the grandiose claims of Eth. It definitely has a niche but will never be as widely applicable as they hope.

This guy more or less brought me into crypto and i enjoyed his predictions and mathematical forecasts very much! I think his game was not intended as an exit scam, i think -as i was watching the development of his castle game- he was fucked by hackers as other exchanges had been fucked also and he was fucked by poloniex also.
I am not sure if he had a car accident or if he was accidented, but yes he had some troubles with his wife and his children. RIP, i will still enjoy reading his posts and predictions saved here  Roll Eyes Wink

He claimed to have a bunch of bitcoin stolen at a conference IIRC. Poor guy clearly had mental issues and it's a shame he wasn't able/willing to get help.
