1321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your friend just know about Bitcoin and said he just invested into cloud mining. on: August 24, 2016, 11:25:25 PM
Hopefully anyone that just found out about Bitcoin will do some research before spending too much money on an investment.
If anyone I knew went into cloud mining, hopefully they spent it on one of the sites that aren't a scam.
Unfortunately, probably 99.9% of cloud mining is a scam. Sad
1322  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: August 24, 2016, 06:00:52 AM
Yes Bitcoin has dropped a bit, but the loss compared to the MtGox hack is much lower.
(I would have to dig up the exact loss in value)

This is a really good thing because it shows how much more stable the currency is.
Hopefully the price steadily increases $700 by the end of the year and I will be more than happy. ")
1323  Economy / Speculation / Re: ELLIOTT WAVE ANALYSIS OF BITCOIN (BTC/USD) PRICE on: August 22, 2016, 01:35:46 AM
Nothing is "impossible", but it's more than likely "improbable"
(So maybe we are arguing over semantics.)

I honestly feel like the price is just going to keep going up and down around $100-150 unless something big happens.
We need another big company to start accepting payment in BTC, or the only movement we will see are sharp drops due to panic sales,
(exchange hack etc)
followed by a steady climb back to the original price.

1324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin" is the hottest topic for me.. on: August 21, 2016, 11:45:45 PM
No sorry way too much competition with-
Olympics, US Presidential election, leaked NSA files, recent attacks in Turkey after failure of peace talks, etc....

I've barely see any mention of Bitcoin outside the fact the hackers are auctioning off more NSA files and they want Bitcoin as the payment.
1325  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-21] cointelegrah.com] Amazon-Owned Twitch Re-adds Bitcoin Payments on: August 21, 2016, 11:31:51 PM
I know that some people on the board have negative feelings towards Coinbase, but I think that this is a good thing.
Another platform with a large, established base of young tech-savy users adopting BTC as a payment system
is exactly what we need to move forward with cryptocurrencies.
1326  Bitcoin / Press / [2016-08-21] FBI using coins seized from Silk Road to buy leaked NSA files? on: August 21, 2016, 11:28:19 PM
https://krypt3ia.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/shadowbrokers-bitcoin-transactions-now-theres-some-taint-for-you/

Anyone following recent tech news undoubtedly saw the "ShadowBrokers Group" dump of (supposed) NSA tools and their claim that they would auction off more (again supposedly) newer tools.
The auction is being done in Bitcoin with a buy it now price of 1 million BTC!!!
Recent analysis of Blockchain transactions suggest that coins sent to the address are possibly some of the BTC that was seized from Ross Ulbricht.

More info on the original NSA files can be found here, for anyone that needs to catch up:

1327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Destroying Bitcoin is NOT Acceptable on: August 21, 2016, 05:50:09 PM
Origin site is unreachable, so I can't read the article.

How many Bitcoin are these people supposed to have destroyed?
What is their purpose?
I doubt anyone would actually invest the amount of money it would take to change the actual worth of the remaining coins.
So, as pointed out by others, the people that are doing this probably have some other motive, like advertising the altcoin they are working on.
1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: August 21, 2016, 05:22:29 PM
Every casino game is slightly in the favor of the house, even if only by a couple percent.
So in the long run, you will lose.
Unless you are playing Poker. The casino makes it money off the rake (percentage of pot each hand)
Since you are playing against other people for their money, if you have skill you can win.
EVERY other game, no matter how good you are, you are at a slight disadvantage and will lose eventually.
1329  Economy / Speculation / Re: ELLIOTT WAVE ANALYSIS OF BITCOIN (BTC/USD) PRICE on: August 21, 2016, 05:19:35 PM
I signed up for the free content at
www.elliottwave.com

and have done a little research, but since I'm still very new to this,
can someone explain the theory on why coins would have to drop to something as low as $85 before they would go up to $2000?

It seems to me that if coins ever went back down to $85 it would be the result of people using a different coin, etc. (AKA Bitcoin is dead at that point.)
1330  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How can i pass on my bitcoins in case i die? on: August 21, 2016, 05:05:14 PM
I would save the keys, and detailed instructions on a USB drive.
Put a step by step guide so that someone who has no idea how to use a computer could do it. Don't assume anything. They may need screenshots with arrows pointing to the button they need to press etc.

Then put that USB drive in a fireproof safe, or rent a safe deposit box.
You should leave the USB in your will with instructions who it goes to, but you may want to have a discussion with that person before, so they know what to do with the information when they get it.
Remember how confusing everything was when you were first learning.
Think of the things that you had trouble with when you started.
1331  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 21, 2016, 04:17:36 PM
Man. With all these complaints I guess Im glad I didnt get one of these miners.
philipma1957 definitely knows what hes doing, so there would be no hope for a noob like me to get this running properly lol.
I guess I would consider their "warranty" useless at this point...
1332  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 192 blocks solved! on: August 20, 2016, 05:18:39 AM
Yeah I think restarts are like blowing on Nintendo cartridges.
It doesn't actually do anything but since the game works, your mind tricks you into thinking that was the reason.

(Kids these days don't know about "blowing dust" off your game cartridges lol.)
1333  Economy / Speculation / Re: This price (~$575) is normal and good, and here's why... on: August 20, 2016, 02:20:18 AM
People are upset because they thought they were going to get rich overnight.
They invested a couple thousand and were hoping to be a millionaire.
Now that reality set in, there are people that probably can't pay their bills.
1334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Phase 33 (federal reserve) on: August 20, 2016, 02:15:01 AM
So is ETH the Flavor of the Month?
Or is there some other coin that you think they will try and manipulate?
You might be able to make some quick cash if you knew what coin they were trying to fool the masses with.
1335  Economy / Speculation / Re: CNY and JPY have enjoyed 90% share of trading market on: August 20, 2016, 02:02:04 AM
With all the Chinese miners I would definitely expect the most trading to be done in Chinese currency.
But it is a surprise that Japan does so much trading. That is something I would not have expected.
Is it just a lot of large traders, or is BTC popular in Japan?
1336  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Complete newbie - Looking for best starting guides / answers to total n00b Q's! on: August 20, 2016, 01:57:05 AM
Also important to point out that to make .3 a month you would have an initial investment of a few thousand dollars, at least.
Which means you are looking at a ROI approaching a year.
(And this is probably WAY too optimistic.)
Mining is not some way to print free money. It takes time, startup investment, and work, like any other investment.
1337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will this boost Bitcoin? on: August 20, 2016, 01:46:07 AM
Its a good first step, but you would need some big online sites to actually accept Bitcoin as payment.

I'm looking at the site for this "Gambling Commission" and I don't see a list of members.
If someone the size of Pokerstars started accepting BTC to fund your account
it would generate a lot of new users, which is what BTC needs now to increase in value.
1338  Economy / Speculation / Re: What did I tell you? BTC will stay down under $600 on: August 18, 2016, 02:33:07 AM
There is no way Bitfinex will survive. They migght be open another couple months.
And there is no way I would trust them at this point. I would NOT be surprised if they got hit a second time.
Anyone who puts currency on that site right now is crazy IMO.
1339  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A daughter of Obama smoking pot on camera... on: August 18, 2016, 02:30:56 AM
Uhh that's clearly a cigarette.
If she was smoking weed I doubt she is dumb enough to let someone stand two feet from her with a camera and take a picture...
1340  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Max time for a transaction to get 3 confirmations? on: August 18, 2016, 02:21:58 AM
I think you have to post more info on the transaction like the amount of fees paid etc.
(At least that info if you don't want to post the transaction ID etc.)

A few weeks ago I had a transaction take a few hours to get confirmed after about two or three hours.
I sent it with 0.00038952 BTC/kB in Electrum wallet.

What were your fees like, lower than this?
