Sounds like the hub's throwing fits.

I'd say probably no hotter than 60C would be good.

I certainly hope you're keeping them cool.

Ah, moved. I had intended this to take over for any residual interest in the Group Buys thread instead of disappearing into the netherworld of altcoin miners and junk, but oh well. Guess I'll just have to make sure it gets bumped every day or so.

I would start with:

Firstly, and secondly, and thirdly -

Here, let me spell it out for you. By quoting some replies about six inches above what you just posted. Because apparently people can't read anymore.

I'm having troubles getting the 2Pac Stick to work.
...
What's wrong?

First off, it looks like you need the 2Pac support thread since you're running a 2Pac.

My first piece of advice would be to check in the 2Pac support thread, since you're running 2Pacs.

I would recommend abandoning this thread and looking elsewhere.

Specifically, the 2Pac support thread.

The software discussed in this thread is two years old. The 2Pac thread is fresh, and includes both a new build of cgminer and a completely rewritten driver that also supports the Compac and does it better than this one ever did.

Advice step number 1 - go read the first post of the 2Pac support thread as referenced above.

It'll point you toward better software. That'll probably help.

Because you're running a 2Pac.

I think at this point I'll just stop telling people that, if you're running a 2Pac, you want to check out the 2Pac support thread.

Heatsink drilling is handled in-house by CNC already. I don't have the jig and program built for the Terminus heatsinks but it's a work in progress. Thanks though.

Added this to the first post, to help ease the communication payload.

For the sake of easy communication, it would be best for prospective buyers to provide upfront their desired quantity, expected payment amount, preferred payment method and shipping address.

We've been a man down at the shop last couple days so I'm pulling triple duty instead of double trying to get the week's shipments put together. As such, communication has taken a back burner. I should be caught up with everyone here soon, but in the future it'd be handy for people to provide all the above info in the initial request.

First thing to check is if you're using a Compac, or a 2Pac.
1349  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 30, 2017, 04:46:43 AM
Asked and answered half a dozen times. False positive because scammers something something botnet something cgminer back in the day and antivirus software is lazy/paranoid.

Just because you haven't adjusted the voltage doesn't mean that it's still set to stock values - in which case what I said still definitely could apply. The logical next step, then, is to try adjusting the voltage instead of doing nothing. Have you looked at the troubleshooting suggestions in the first post?
1351  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: November 29, 2017, 08:08:49 PM
Me too, but as with any time I trust someone else to do part of the job, the one part of design I've left in someone else's hands is about a month behind schedule getting done. Grumble grumble.

Someone posted a sample config file on here four days ago. It's on the previous page.

Newest update - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2474532.msg42630173#msg42630173

I have 2Pac factory seconds available again, at $16. Laura's also back in treatment so she'll be getting $10 of every sale and the rest is basically the value of usable parts were I to strip them and recycle the rest. Not even looking to recover cost on these, just utility and donation.

So probably a lot of you are familiar by now with my 2Pac USB stick miner.

I closed general sales in June because I was finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with both communication and manufacture.  Bulk sales are still accepted and resellers are taking a whole lot of the load off my back. Between that and improved infrastructure, the weekly output of 2Pacs from my "factory" has more than doubled.

For anyone wondering, non-bulk "individual" sales accounted for roughly 15% of early-batch sales, while communication for individual sales (plus aborted order requests) accounted for roughly 95% of communication. So by offloading those sales to resellers, my overall sales volume was basically unchanged but I was able to reduce my "wading through emails" time down to a fraction of the total.

So some of you guys also noticed that in the past I've sold "factory seconds" 2Pacs. A stock stick has to pass bench testing before final assembly and then a two-step test at no higher than 1.26V before shipping; a "seconds" stick will have failed testing (due to HW errors and/or instability) at stock voltage but will have passed at no higher than 1.40V on the dial. This reduces the baseline efficiency and overclockability but, as far as I can tell, they're still fully functional.

I started selling them in part because I had a lot stacking up - earlier batches of chips weren't as good as what I'm using now so I had up to 10% failures, most of which became seconds. The numbers are better now, but they still stack up, and I like at least getting some of the parts cost back. The other and more significant reason is, all profits from the sale of 2Pac seconds goes to a particular GoFundMe account.

The beneficiary (Laura) is a friend I've known for going on 12 years who's been going through some rough times and is in treatment for an eating disorder. Which ain't cheap, even with insurance. Inpatient treatment kinda keeps you from having a job, and her folks are both teachers (don't even get me started on how undervalued educators are these days) so the whole family could use some help.

So, I'm going to use this thread as a central gathering place for all the as-of-yet scattered and varied information about 2Pac Seconds sales.

I sell them for more than, but not less than, $32 $16 apiece plus shipping. I say "more than" because anything extra you pay will go straight to the fund. Any $32 $16 sale automatically puts $10 in donation, but you're more than welcome to add more to it if you want.

In order to help her out even more, Laura will be taking on the job of "sales rep" and handling customer communication for small orders. We're going to start off with 2Pac Seconds as something simple to iron out the kinks. So instead of contacting me for purchasing, you'll contact her. Which is probably good because she's a lot nicer than I am.

I take PayPal and BTC. Shipping is $10 for any order within the US. Know before you buy that you are buying something DISCOUNTED and NOT AS GOOD AS STOCK and with LIMITED SUPPORT. Supply is limited.

To place an order: Email to sales at GekkoScience.com:
0) that you specifically want 2Pac Seconds
1) desired quantity
2) expected payment amount (don't forget to add shipping)
3) preferred payment method (BTC or PayPal)
4) shipping address

Also, I have Rohs-compliant sticks but they're all bitshopper-branded and marked with his WEEE registration so I can't really sell them to other people. Bitshopper's okay with them being put in general circulation as seconds outside Europe but not within Europe because he could get in trouble with WEEE reporting. Which means I can't sell seconds sticks in Europe without breaking some rule or other.

2Pac Seconds sales to date have donated: well over $6215
1354  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Buying Bitmain or Bitfury ASIC chips directly on: November 28, 2017, 02:23:53 AM
He probably meant design and have produced a batch of chips, not build a factory from scratch.

Leastways I hope that's what he meant.

All would change is knocking off a couple zeroes from the campaign - still pretty unattainable.
1355  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can I (a newbie) ask a stupid question? on: November 27, 2017, 09:07:59 PM
Anyone charging more would be shipping from standing stock (or it's a scam). Most manufacturers charging less to sell directly are backordered a couple months.
1356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 27, 2017, 08:04:52 PM
Should be, unless your hub's wiring is lousy and the voltage is dropping out. Consider some of the other first-post charts; 1.5V is way the heck high for any frequency you're wanting to run. At 250MHz 1.4V should be about enough, and only 2A. Are you able to check your USB port's 5V actual voltage under load?
1357  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 27, 2017, 06:37:12 PM
If they're hot, it could be the voltage is cranked up too high and the hub ports crap out when the chips try to initialize.
1358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 25, 2017, 11:43:42 PM
I would bet that question has been asked and answered at least six times already.

Also, you could try adjusting the voltage slightly higher on the one so it can keep up. Pretty sure that sort of thing is mentioned in the first post.
1359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 24, 2017, 03:20:55 PM
If by "ckolivas already compiled cgminer.exe" you mean stock cgminer, not the one linked in the first post of this thread which has drivers for this device, it's no wonder you can't get stuff to work.

Because the answer to almost every question is "read the first post".

Turning off the USB hub is electrically equivalent to unplugging and replugging.

The biggest issue causing zombies is due to the two ASICs being powered in series. If they get too unbalanced (which could happen due to semiconductor spec, heat differentials, an uneven distribution of work or bad timing) one chip will get starved for power and lock up the whole works. This is less of a problem with wider strings because they'll tend to average out, but since this is one chip wide there's nothing to buffer except the node-level capacitors. When that happens, the options are to manually reset the string (which is difficult since there's no reset pad on this version) or unplug/replug (which is to say, power-cycle).

Any reasonably well-made OS will quickly realize a USB device has been disconnected when that USB device has all power cut off. If you can unplug an active device and your computer thinks it's still attached, you might consider hitting your computer with a bat.
