in your conf file, slush's pool hostname is incorrect (you have a 2 after api). im betting this is why it crashes instantly.

slush's pool settings:

http://api.bitcoin.cz:8332
(Default URL for Stratum and Getwork miners. If you're unsure, use this URL.)

or
stratum+tcp://ipv6.stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333
(IPv6, only for Stratum miners)
or
http://pool57wkuu5yuhzb.onion:8332
(anonymous mining over Tor network)
1362  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] .999 Hand-Poured Silver Bars, Any Weight on: February 08, 2013, 03:31:46 AM
Well there's a coin premium, but 100% can't last forever. Coin premium is like 20% max IIRC.
You're thinking numismatic value on legal tender. I'm talking intrinsic value on pm rounds/bars. There's a huge difference. The reason that those rounds/bars sell so well is because of the perceived value of the piece by the consumer, and not the graded value in some PCGS/NGC mint book.
You know, if you've sold on eBay I think I've seen your auctions. 10 x 1 gram bars going for close to $20...about 200% of spot. And yeah, people buy it. They like the idea of fractional amounts of silver...in case the world ends and all transactions will be in gold and silver lol. Like one gram of silver for a loaf of bread lol.
Did you hand-pour these? Where did you find a 1 gram mold?
You might have, i only stopped selling my silver there early last year. That's exactly what those people buy the silver for, too. I call them the SHTF (shit hits the fan) guys. They buy fractionals like crazy. I've even seen posts in survival related forums with SHTF people asking for custom minted gold/silver rounds with their logo/name on it. Apparently they wanted to start their own government when ours collapses...

Yes, hand poured, and i used a custom 6 slot graphite bar mold and the actual 1 gram molds from saturn supplies, and bought the press for the rounds off of either alibaba or aliexpress. Worked great for over 6 months. The furnace i used was nothing special outside of having a pouring crucible, and was like maybe $400 or so on Ebay.

Sorry for the delay in responding, i was getting 502 errors every time i visited this site today.

1365  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 0 hash rate? bfgminer on ubuntu 12.10 on: February 07, 2013, 08:40:31 PM
I'm not sure why BFGminer would be maxxing out your CPU (its a GPU miner).
1366  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 21.4Mhash/s ... is that decent? on: February 07, 2013, 08:35:24 PM
As others have stated, you'll end up spending much more than you make with that setup. I would recommend investing in purchasing BTC/LTC before i'd suggest anyone else buy an amd gpu and solo/pool mine. the ROI is just terrible nowadays. Even high end mining farms pale in comparison to the gh/s and power consumption of the newly released $149 BFL Jalapeno.

Careful with that wording.

I do agree that right now is a bad time to get into GPU mining. I'm still making ~$600 USD/month at the current conversion with my GPUs but I fully expect that in ~1 month I'll be losing money running them. At the moment I'd just wait until BFL and Avalon have their backlogs trimmed to reasonable lengths.
Ha! So true! Fixed, and thanks!

I'd be glad to help out. Send me your specific questions via PM, so we don't step all over JW's thread.
1369  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] .999 Hand-Poured Silver Bars, Any Weight on: February 07, 2013, 07:59:47 PM
I just wanted to pop in and suggest making 1 gram custom rounds. I used to collect silver like it was going out of style. I probably had in excess of 30 pounds at one time (down to just a few hundred ounces now). I wanted to sell some, but hated dealing with spot, local shops, and just scammers in general. I noticed on Ebay that gold 1 gram (or even as small as 5 grain) bars and rounds were selling nonstop. I decided to dedicate a hundred ounces to making my own rounds/bars. i bought a smaller kiln/forge than what you have, and had some custom 1 gram rounds molds made up. The molds cost me about $30 a piece, but were well worth it.

Anyways, i was able to sell all 100 ounces, in 1 gram rounds/bars, and receive 200% or more over spot. For some reason on Ebay (and especially now that APMEX and Ebay have teamed up), people buy the small fractionals like crazy, and at a higher premium. Everyday on ebay there's fractionals going for upwards of $60/ozt, when spot is not even hitting $32. you can see some examples of what i mean at http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=1+gram+silver+rounds&_sacat=0&_from=R40 .

Basically i ordered mold designs that i hadn't seen on custom rounds and bars. Chinese dragon, skull and crossbones, american flag, and a generic sports mold were my top sellers. I made enough over spot to easily recoup my initial investment in the silver (bought at $11/ozt years ago), the cost of the forge, the cost of the molds, and all packaging/shipping costs - and i pocketed several thousand more dollars over spot.

It worked really well for me, so i figured i'd share it. Either way, i hope you have a very successful run, fellow silversmith!
1370  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: cgminer 2.10.0 + Radeon HD 4550 on: February 07, 2013, 07:39:59 PM
Typically cgminer dying instantly when starting up means your settings are incorrect. i would make sure i have the latest amd/catalyst drivers (with open cl) first. Feel free to post your CONF here (edit out your user/pass for the pool you're working on please). I'll help as much as i can.

the 4550 uses 80 shader stream processing units. However, i don't think it supports the new opencl (the 4450 was released with opengl, and prior to the first stable version of opencl). Could be a complete hardware incompatibility, or could just be a setting.

1372  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Vote: Do you think Butterfly Labs will deliver their ASICs this month? on: February 07, 2013, 07:07:21 PM
well, i preordered a few jalapenos and a little single, so i'm hoping they deliver by March.

However, i've never witnessed a company have so many delays on a product that's for sale as BFL. There's some huge red flags being thrown up, and i honestly wouldn't be surprised if they didn't ship until summer or later.

I'm gonna go with no.
1373  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB: Saiga 7.62 conversion kit on: February 07, 2013, 06:49:09 PM
I had this same issue post sandy hook. seems kits manufacturers have given up, as it's much more rewarding and simple to sell the kit parts (since there's so many possible variations on the kits). I spent a bit more than just buying a generic kit (also got a us hammer and disconnector), but Carolina Shooting Supply is nothing short of awesome. Highly recommend them.

1376  Economy / Services / Re: Selling stuff on eBay for commission? on: February 07, 2013, 05:25:30 AM
I've done this with a few clients in the past. It typically works like this.

1. Goods are received
2. Item and pricing research
3. Photos are taken. I have a professional photo studio setup, a high end DSLR camera, and post process everything in Lightroom
4. Price agreed upon for listings
5. Listings posted

If you haven't worked out a deal yet with coinvisitor, im an Ebay power seller, and have 100% positive feedback on both Etsy and Ebay. I have a corporate shipping account, so i enjoy reduced shipping costs. Shoot me a PM, we can discuss this in greater detail.

1379  Economy / Goods / Vintage/Antique jewelry and collectibles for BTC/LTC - 100% Ebay/Etsy feedback on: February 07, 2013, 03:50:49 AM
Hello! We're a family of estate auction hunters who sell some of our really unique finds online through Ebay and Etsy. We specialize in vintage and antique jewelry, home decor, and gadgets. We have 100% perfect feedback on Ebay and Etsy, with several hundred transactions performed.

I initially learned about and attempted Bitcoin mining several years ago (back when you could mine from the default client). I was in awe when i checked back into it recently and saw the amazing community that has developed around it. Bitcoin is something that truly interests me, not just from a financial standpoint, but from a societal one as well.

Having been a longtime lurker here, i noticed that the marketplace has literally no items available for those who collect vintage or antique goods. We decided we would offer our items for BTC as well!

I understand the threat of a new trader/seller is severe, so i will gladly send first to any reputable domestic member who requests it (limited time). Everything we ship is sent out USPS First Class or Priority Mail with tracking (depending on weight), and will arrive within 2-5 business days to the domestic USA. International shipments can take upwards of 2-3 weeks, depending on destination and method of shipment.

Our Etsy shop houses an eclectic blend of Silver and Gold (solid precious metals with hallmarks) rings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and various other types of jewelry. It also showcases some unique antique pottery and home decor.

Our Etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/ThePickingPair

We have some great gifts available! If you see something you would like, please PM me here on the forums, convo me on etsy, or send an email to info@thepickingpair.com . I'll deactivate the listing within Etsy and get in contact with you for the shipping address. After that i can accurately calculate the cost + shipping, and then convert to BTC/LTC price.

Thanks for your time, and i look forward to being an active part of this community!

All my best,
Patrick

1380  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] $20 or $50 gift cards in exchange for bitcoins (info inside, must read!) on: February 07, 2013, 03:25:35 AM
If you can be thrifty and get your BTC for cheaper than paying for them with cash, more power to you. If not just go to BitInstant and pick MoneyGram. Fees really aren't that bad. One stop at the drug store to buy my bitcoins sounds better to me than running around buying giftcards for people.

When you go onto bitinstant and choose cash deposit, what's the difference between choosing moneygram vs cvs? I thought you just went to cvs to use monegram..
Nothing as far as i can tell. I've done it both ways. I think the different store options are for on the order page where zipzap shows you the nearest locations.

Just went today to fund my btc-e account in fact. You walk over to the red phone (usually by the photo lab), pick it up, follow the prompts. It will ask you to enter in the receive code and some other info. Someone will pickup and talk to you, verifying the amount, receive code, and the name you used on the bitinstant form. You then bring it over to the cashier and pay. It's usually in my account before i get out to my car. I've never had any employee ask for my ID, and the Moneygram people just care about having a name attached to it, they don't care who's it is.
