141  Economy / Lending / $350 Paypal Loan - 12 Month Payback ($450) on: November 10, 2013, 12:03:15 AM
Hello Everyone,
I am here asking for a $350.00 paypal loan in order to help me build a primecoin mining rig. The mining rig will just have a decent CPU and be used in order to mine primecoins 24/7.

Here are the specs (taken from my prepared amazon account):
MSI Computer Corp. Motherboard ATX DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 Motherboards B85-G41 PC MATE This is the motherboard for the computer. Not a bad motherboard, and while its not the cheapest one in the world it is certainly not expensive at $73.

6FT SVGA VGA Monitor MM Male To Male Extension Cable 80 This cable will be used to connect my monitor from home to the motherboard. It's only $2.75 and way cheaper than buying a monitor for the project.

Cooler Master Elite Power - 460W Power Supply (RS460-PSARI3-US) 460w is more than what I need for the project but the psu is only $36, so if I did get a smaller size, its not like I would save much money - if any.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heat Pipes (RR-B10-212P-G1) This will be the cooler for the CPU - by far one of the most important components in my opinion since the CPU will be doing all the work

Kingston Hyper X Blu 4 GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 Desktop Memory (KHX1600C9D3B1/4G) Not much ram is necessary, so I only got a 4gb $40 stick.

Intel Core i5-4570 Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.2 GHZ 6MB Cache- BX80646I54570 This $200 processor is the heart of the machine and does all the work.

Logitech Desktop MK120 Mouse and keyboard Combo Not necessarily fully necessary, but I would like to have my own keyboard and mouse for this

Equipment I already have / am supplying.

250 gb Hard Drive w/ Windows Vista on it. I understand that PrimeCoin mining works better with 64 bit so I also have a copy of Windows 7 64 Bit that I will probably end up installing, should it be necessary.
Monitor: Not a good monitor, but I don't need a nice monitor.

$120: $350 doesn't cover the costs of the entire rig so I will be covering some of the costs myself - this is all I have to put to this project right now.

Collateral
No I don't have collateral - if you require collateral than I can't do a loan with you. Well let me rephrase that - I have items that could be used as collateral (laptop & phone), except those are day to day necessities for me (I use them for school, something much more important to me than a side thing like this rig) and as a result aren't things I will be giving up. If I had any collateral I could use for this project, I would just sell it and use it.

Why not bitcoin? Why paypal?
Well, if you have been following the price of Bitcoin the past few days you will see what I mean when I say this. I don't have a mt. gox account, so trading bitcoin to fiat isn't super easy for me (Amazon doesn't accept bitcoins sadly.) And right now the price of Bitcoin is right around $350, so if I ask for a $350 loan and lets say I get 1 bitcoin. Then the price per bitcoin crashes to $200 before I can sell it. Well now I'm stuck because I have to pay back a $350 loan + interest and I no longer can afford a rig. Could I pay it back? Yes. But it would be a lot harder and frankly I don't want to deal with the risk.

Payback
Your payback for this $350 loan will be $450 over the coarse of the next year. For the first 2 months you will get nothing and then for the next 10 months you will get $45.00/month. It will be sent to your paypal.

Please PM me or reply here if interested.

145  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Adsense Bitcoin Alternative? on: October 21, 2013, 12:55:06 AM
Bitcoins are not totally anonymous and are also not designed to be.

They don't need to be totally anonymous. But this would definitely be more anonymous then checks:). I was just wondering, if I were to go out and try and create something like this, would there be any real support behind it and such to make it worth my time/money.
146  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Momentum Proof-of-Work Bounty - 30 BTC on: October 21, 2013, 12:53:47 AM
Once the RAM is full everything is a read so it'll be perfectly parallel with some negligible constant time overhead.

Improvements against scrypt for the birthdayhash will help a bit, but like you said any tricks generally translate fine into ASICs.

For your example, since the mac pro has 16 times more RAM and hashing power it will be exactly 16^2 or 256 times better. Well worth the 50x cost. Since this is quadratic it will just get worse when you get into 128GB servers.

I like the elegance of having the RAM be the main resource for hashing, but I think we have a ways to go before making it practical. I'll keep thinking about it.

Nathaniel

The problem with memory is that setups will then turn to server motherboards, some of which can hold an insane amount of RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182346 This motherboard has 24 Ram Slots for $490.00

For best value, we can go with 16gb memory sticks at $150.00 each also available on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226412

With 24 of these, you would have 384gb of Ram. Granted, your cost would be ~$6000 when you finally put the system together. However, with 384gb of ram, this system is 144 times as good as your Mac Pro for around 1.2x the cost. People would just have systems like this lying around.

Also, that doesn't even count one of Intel's Server Motherboards which can hold theoretically up to 1.5TB of ram (48 slots at 32gb each). However, at current prices your looking at 30 grand just in ram for that.

However, that being said, I would support a memory  based coin. I kind of like the idea of having my house covered with servers each having hundreds of gb of ram versus the idea of my house covered with Asics Smiley.
147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Adsense Bitcoin Alternative? on: October 21, 2013, 12:29:52 AM
Adsense is well known in the webmaster world as being one of the best advertising programs out here. I have been doing some research and have been wondering, is there a market inside creating an adsense alternative that runs in bitcoins. Here are the advantages I see so far. What are your guys opinions?

1) It runs on bitcoins. That makes it easy to provide your address and get paid. None of the send a check to your house and then you have to deposit it, which is how Adsense currently works.

2) It allows for people who want to anonymously make money off of a website a way to do so. If you were to use adsense for a website where you don't want your advertising revenues to be tracked, your stuck because they could easily track your bank account and all that. However, bitcoins are totally anonymous, no one knows where your payment goes.

149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gold Coin (GLD) Info Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [NEW THREAD] on: October 20, 2013, 10:18:21 PM

Kelsey, that is a big problem with GoldCoin, where people are being extremely cheap, when in fact, they ought to be spreading those GoldCoins around more.

Are you deaf? Can't you read Kelsey?

I have said more than once already, that I charge 1000 GoldCoins for one link at DigitalGoldCoin.com

Well you have avoided a pretty easy and clear question. OK then do I have to word it another way; who requested you put goldcoin links on your webpage?

Changing the topic again.

I think it is important to make sure that the GoldCoin wallet continues to be functioning for current users, but

the new update failed in that regards. My balance is showing 0.00 GLD in the new update wallet/client

Whereas, I still have the old wallet, and my coins are still in the old wallet, but that wallet will not synch.

The fact it would not synch at all, is why I thought I would update.

but for now my goldcoins are frozen in the old wallet, and I cannot use them.

I don't need this crap about how the new update is supposedly 'fixing the 51% problem'....

When in fact, the new update has made my wallet unusable, and is not showing my GoldCoins in it.

Quit changing the topic.

The instructions are clear and Akumaburma told you how to fix this easy problem, but it looks like you are not following the instructions given to you.

Furthermore it was you who started with demanding you needed to be paid 1000GLD for every link which you put your self on your site thats why everybody is amazed why the community should pay you.

150  Economy / Lending / Question about collateral? on: October 20, 2013, 08:40:22 PM
I'm not sure I get the advantage (for the person asking for a loan) to provide collateral. If you are providing equal or higher than the loan amount in collateral, why don't you just sell the collateral and use that to fund the loan yourself? That seems to be a lot simpler on your end because you won't need to worry about paying anyone back.

Can someone explain the advantages or how it works to me?
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Making a profitable rig for altcoin on: October 16, 2013, 03:52:58 AM
Mining is not profitable. Especially if you're doing a 1 GPU rig.

And especially if your using that 1GPU to mine WDC.

I would recommend switching to each coin right as its created (so you have a decent amount of hashing in it compared to the overall), and building up a small stake. Then if the price rises a lot, you make a lot of money and if it doesn't rise than it doesn't.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We want to bulk buy WorldCoin (WDC) on: August 16, 2013, 04:11:25 PM
Yes, you could just buy it in small batches an then sell it higher and as you get more sell more... interesting scheme actually:)
153  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Need a $650 USD Loan For 6 Months on: June 25, 2013, 08:06:36 PM
My parents don't want me to get a job.
Now I don't get it any more.

First they want you to manage to get a loan, which is great.

But then they don't want you to get a job, which would provide the money you need... wtf?

Well they want me to get a loan because it will help me learn by being responsible. However, they believe that a job will take away from my school work and my ability to focus on school and as a result they don't want me to get a job. Make sense?

The GLD forum has moved to https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php

So is this still going on?

No.
155  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Need a $650 USD Loan For 6 Months on: June 19, 2013, 02:18:19 AM
My parents don't want me to get a job. Plus, I don't have much free time. I have math summer course from 8-12:30 and then tennis from 12:30 (I get there a little late) till 3:30 and then I do the math class homework which normally takes 2-3 hours and I'm home at 7. I then take my shower, eat dinner, and do my viola and then normally I have from 8:30-11:00 as free time, however, I normally spend from 10:00-11:00 watching a movie with the rest of the family. Also, I probably could learn a skill but I doubt I could learn it and successfully implement it for enough money in under 6 weeks.

Can you put your sister up as collateral?

Sure. Though if you want to take her you would need my parent's permission too. You have mine though:).
