The rule change was just made recently:

Quote
Cardroom Rules

Sales or transfer of accounts between players is prohibited.

That is an improvement.

142  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tips for local transactions on: February 16, 2016, 07:24:39 PM
In most cases, these are just precautions.

The Bitcoin trader that I conducted transactions with was very knowledgeable and very business-like.  He was well-educated, and I concluded that he had a degree in business administration.  He was listed at both Localbitcoins and Craigslist.

We started with emails, then phone conversations, and then meeting for the transactions.  By then, we both knew what to expect from each other, and how the transaction would be conducted.  No surprises.

"Why?" is a valid question, as long as we recognize that it is speculation.

Possible reasons:

  • The owner does not want to spend the money to write other versions of the client software
  • There is some encryption or security issue involved with connecting a different client with that server.  Hackers would find a way to get in.
  • There is some other technical incompatibility between that existing server software and a different client.  They would need to rewrite everything.
  • They wrote the Android and HTML clients already.  They work (sort of) but they are not stable enough to release, or they negatively affect the playability or response time of the entire system
  • The developers might just be very, very,   V  E  R  Y      S  L  O  W

Can you think of any other possible reasons?

A solution for some people is a dual boot PC.  Mine can boot into Linux or Windows XP.

And I can also WiFi tether my cell phone to that ancient laptop, so that I can play SwC from anywhere there is a phone signal.

It is dirt cheap, very portable, and it works flawlessly.  I realize that it is "too many moving parts" for widespread use.  A more simple solution is necessary.

I see that the open source PokerTH has been struggling with an Android version since 2014.  But the old Seals had one that worked.  Didn't SwC "inherit" the source code for that one?

146  Economy / Gambling / Re: SwCpoker.eu | No Banking, Only Bitcoin | Bitcoin Poker 2.0 LIVE NOW! on: February 02, 2016, 09:33:26 PM
A browser-based (HTML) client may have the fewest hurdles to implement (and the most potential players), although there may be authentication issues in making it function securely with the existing server software.

The old Seals had a working HTML client, and I was never aware of any security problems with it.  My impression was that once SwC solved the interface issues with this new server software, that multiple flavors of client software would appear "soon".

But nothing additional has been released, and communication has been terse.

Definitely disappointing, but they have been very reliable on cashouts, and there are some other advantages, so I am not likely to leave.  SwC has potential.

... ~10BTC per month they were paying out in them to fund better promos that encourage play on the site.

If they are dropping 10btc a month on promos, why on earth do we not have a working client 13 months after the old sealwithclubs closed?  It's clear that their player base needs something other than a broken windows client in order to be able to access the site.  Windows is the 90s, most people use other OS's now.  I can't be bothered to install a bunch of virtual machine software on an arm9 in order to try to run windows just for some poker.  It's better to just do something else.

LOL, 85% of all pc and laptop users use windows.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems#Desktop_and_laptop_computers

Yes.  That is for PC and laptop computers.

But for Device Shipments (which includes smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs together)

Android       48.61%
iOS/OS X    11.04%
Windows    14.00%
Other    26.34%

and you want your opponents to be playing on a phone or a tablet.  That is where the distracted and impatient players are found in higher concentrations.

Bots and nits are usually under Windows, and occasionally "Other" (Linux)

Compare Satoshi Nakamoto and Nick Szabo's usage of the word 'though'.

Do you have any examples?

Not the father of Bitcoin, but the grandfather of Bitcoin.

Only a fraction of the krillroll prize money leaves the site.  There are many "new" players who have reached the 5k and 20k krill level (at least).  Many of the "older" accounts are capable of playing higher stakes when they want to.  And sometimes they do.

I agree about the alternate client software.  It is overdue.

These 4 people could identify Nick Szabo.

From 280: Take the Saratoga/Sunnyvale (Or DeAnza Blvd, its all the same
thing) Exit (which is actually the 85 South detour).  Turn north on DeAnza
(aka Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road) at the exit (a left turn if you are coming
from San Francisco; right if you are coming from San Jose).  Turn left at
Homestead; go three blocks to N. Stelling, take left (at the McDonalds).
(Note: North Stelling is called Hollenbeck on the other side of Homestead.
Don't be fooled!)

From 101: Take 85 south and exit at Homestead; turn left onto Homestead.
Proceed several blocks (you will pass a high school); then turn right on N.
Stelling.

Once on N. Stelling:
Right at first light: Greenleaf
First left, Flora Vista
First Right on to Grenola Dr
21090 (mnemonic: anagram for Beverly Hills zip code) is a tannish house on
left with a high roof that slopes toward the street.
Park on the street -- in the direction of traffic, or you may get a $15
ticket. This has happened.

156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does Skill Work? on: January 16, 2016, 07:46:45 PM
You forgot to include regular poker games, player vs player. Where skill is most. Or at least most from the list above.

In P2P Poker, site only collect rake and doesn't care at all which player will win.

My thoughts exactly. Poker and Player vs Player games take a huge amount of skill to get to a point where you can win consistently. Although, it can take some good cards/ Luck / Chance to win, But experience and skill give you the advantages in certain situations to know when to make a certain move or a big fold. When it comes to Skill based gambling, poker is the only way to go.

Yes

Poker is played against other humans, not the house.  Humans are exploitable.  Imagine playing against a human whose aggression is completely out of control.  I play against them every day.  Imagine playing against a human who is afraid to take any risk.  There are plenty of them.  And they identify themselves.  The house-created games are almost always not exploitable (unless the people who created them are incompetent).  Bitcoin internet poker has a unique combination of advantages that none of the others (including brick and mortar poker) have. The very low rake (or even zero rake at the lowest tables on SwCPoker) allows players to gain the needed skill at very low expense.  It is not unusual to play over 100 hands per hour.  In contrast, trying to learn how to play poker in a brick and mortar poker room can be expensive and time-consuming.  It is Bitcoins that allow internet poker to be provided at such low expense.

I don't do Twitter, but on the repeat at the SwC website it says

"Apologies for the temporary outage. Our primary data center is having issues. Please stand by!"

Was temporarily unable to log in from my Vista computer until I uninstalled, downloaded, and installed SwC.  No problems at all on my XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8 computers.

We are with you Micon!

Hello, I can't see the note icon when I write down notes for a player. I play in virtual machine without problems. Can you help me? Thank you very much

I have this too, with a windows 7 vm no notes icon, but with windows 10 it shows up fine. Not sure what could cause this  Roll Eyes

For me:

XP - no notes icons
Vista - no notes icons
Windows 7 - notes icons
Windows 8 - notes icons

Found out that even if the notes icon is not visible, it is there and functional.  Mouse over the location where the notes icon should be will pop up the notes.  Click on the location where the notes icon should be to edit the notes.   Smiley
