I never understand these kinds of discussions. Why can't we all just respect eachother and eachother's beliefs Sad.

Maybe because some ignorant people want to kill you in order to save your soul or convert you to their beliefs by force...  (The Catholic Church, Al Queda, Jim Jones, etc.)

Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.  Debates are good for the mind. Smiley I think that a good respectful discussion is a healthy thing!  We all have different viewpoints and beliefs and to understand each other and the world these discussions are necessary!  Sure we can have a "live and let live attitude" but there is a place for trying to understand each other and share our perspectives on things.

Great topic and discussion.  Live and let live goes only so far,  When cultures don't understand each other and don't interact with each other there is a danger of a xenophobic ignorance ruling actions instead of knowledge. just saying -digeros

hmm... I'd go with 鲨睾, but you might need an actual chinese person for this IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC QUESTION. they might use more colloquial words for "balls" as well, like 蛋 (egg)... but I think they would at least get the meaning of 鲨睾... which is important!!! D:

maybe this attracts someone with actual knowledge. this might be the most serious topic on the last 5 pages of this thread. Cheesy

Well now that this is a thread with a life of its own in Cross Cultural Communal Drinking and Thinking Wink
???Is there any place to plug your Chinese Characters in and listen to what it sounds like???  Serious - digeros

PS. thanks for the link to the blockexplorer - ???has anyone made a more graphic presentation of passing blocks; perhaps Generation Time (vs. expected time), Value Out and number of transactions in each block somehow graphically displayed???
145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's going to make it? on: September 25, 2013, 02:43:48 AM
coins that are going to make it
CGB, ANC, LTC,NMC
coins that will crash and burn
ZET, DEV
coins that should crash and burn
FTC, NVC, GLD
Although LTC has been kind of twitchy and CBG's POS should keep the block creation going.
Generally Agree but would probably swap CGB for PHS, I dont like a coin that cant report a network hashrate.

OHH Yeah I forgot Little Ol' NameCoin which someday will be used to create cool aliases services and currently costing miners nothing really The wallet got a nice update too to allow domains / names management from the wallet i think I haven't fully explored it.  -digeros

Why all this support for DGC? It seems to have been going down for quite some time.

there are big things to come for DGC Smiley

besides, all coins, including Litecoin have been going down while Bitcoin went up in price, it's called market adjustment Smiley

We've been hearing about big things to come for DGC forever -- what could possible be behind the curtain? It's a currency riddled with stales and is too easily manipulated by mining-hoppers due to it's dated difficulty adjustment -- maybe those issues should be addressed first. What good are the fast block times if 1/4 of all shares are stales?

Anything DGC can possibly come up with everything else of note will be able to do as well...and also have a superior currency to do it with. I bought into DGC early but I threw in the towel a while back -- too many empty promises and nothing ever materializes. The only cool thing DGC ever had going for it was the fair launch...but that's in the distant past now and an insignificant proportion of what we're looking at now. Bragging about the fair launch can't power this engine forever.

I hope you prove me wrong -- I'm happy to see any altcoin succeed even if I'm not invested in it. I just don't see it with DGC -- I think it's overhyped and slowly on its way out.

WOW I came to the same conclusion about DGC. I thought a coin that had an economy waiting for it had a good chance but without the security of a stable coin network, I abandoned it too.

Speaking of Stabilizing POW DIFF,  we have a couple of ways that seem to be working well:

The first is the POS system which comes from PPCOIN PeerCoin (PPC) -SHA-256 hash, NovaCoin (NVC) script hash, Diamond (DMD) Fork adding random blocks, PhilosopherStone PHS etc.
of Which PPC, NVC are still going strong and PHS (still young but stabilizing network).

The second option for controlling huge shifts is the POW Mining DIFF is a DIFF algo that somehow adapts quickly to shifting network hashrates.  For this, POS helps but I have not experienced anything as smooth as Kimoto's Gravity Well used in MEGACOIN.

I think that in a Crypto-currency world / set of Wallets / or perhaps set of coins creating a diversified portfolio???

There would be a
1) some sort of INTEREST-bearing coin for which I think POS coins work well PHS qualifies with 50% annual interest POS
2) some sort of ANONYMITY of CASH coin for which the coins racing toward the ZEROCOIN protocol are contenders: BTC, ANC & MEC.
3) IN a HIGHLY advanced crypto-currency economy we would also have a spend it or loss it coin Called demurrage or Negative annual interest like FREICOIN  But I think that is the type of thing that could only be used for a highly developed goods for bitcoin/crypto-currency local economy like a local farmers market.

The network speed is still missing, which I try to install tomorrow.

Getting there...
Queries on transactions working well.

Quick Everybody Show me an EXCELLENT EXAMPLE of a Block Explorer, IF you have one.

found one here any chances of getting this kind of display???  http://ltc.block-explorer.com/charts

I hate to add specs on but I am sort of expecting something that shows at least a list and preferably a graph with the last 50 blocks showing number of transactions, amount of PHS out like

http://blockexplorer.com/  except for PHS.  or something like

at http://phs.minar.cc/index.php?page=statistics&action=blocks  (Sorry you need an account to get in site but block graph is quite nice)

but with an interactive query blah blah that all the sites, exchanges, etc require to have it all hooked up to feed info to "Da Pee Pole", you know.

-digeros

PS. plus I hope you would publicize your new block explorer on your site since you got this sort of thing going on.

Judging by the way people tend to like to invest on Cryptsy (people don't seem to have a lot of funds and only want to participate in sketchy pump and dumps with low market cap coins), I don't think MEC will be able to reach the market cap it deserves unless it gets onto a bigger exchange like btc-e. Is there anything we can do to organize some sort of campaign to get btc-e to do the right thing and accept MEC there?

I think we can organize an email campaign, or a petition in a thread (I've seen something like this before in this forum)
I believe you can shouldn't be a problem at all ....

For all interested in MEGACOIN to be traded in BTC-E.

I just made this petition to express our interest. If anyone knows the owners of btc-e, maybe he can notify them too.

just did but between you and me  BTC-e is no big deal

LOOK at real transaction volume on the various coins across the various exchanges and CRYPTSY leaves them ALL in the Dust.  Let me say this as a Master of Banking and Finance, if a market doesn't have volume enough to smoothly trade it WILL NOT ACT AS A PRICE DISCOVERY MARKET.  LOOK at these pages and tell me if BTC-e is going to make any difference WHATSOEVER to MEC trading... here.

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/     (LOOK at the Volumes of TRADES - CRYPTSY is the place to find a fair market price for most alt coins)

On the other hand, if BTC-e has FIAT currency capacity and you would like to see that direct trade perhaps there is something added to MEC by BTC-e. But if you are a real bitcoin believer why do you want to trade your alt currencies for FIAT???  -digeros

It just seems to be my observation that there more people with more money on btc-e. I've hardly ever seen any transactions for anything more than a few BTC on cryptsy, which is barely anything at all in the financial world. As price rises, it's going to take more than a few BTC to sustain the price, and I'm just not sure the users of cryptsy have those kind of funds. I could be wrong though.

Hate to come off like a complete conspiracy nut.... Undecided

But you may just be seeing a bunch of vultures waiting for someone to mistakenly sell their coins on a not very liquid or flowing market (where big money can push price points more easily) at a below market value.  You should measure the number of market participants before you judge a market by its buy wall.  A really well functioning market will have large BUY AND SELL walls with many smaller orders (especially for difficult to mine coins) than just a few huge orders making some sort of "false bottom".  Another way to measure the effectiveness of a market is to watch how close the bottom SELL order is to the top BUY order and whether they move together with a price shift.  (ie. MEC on Cryptsy, where I will likely never see my bottom fishing orders ever filled)

Hi all.

I made this thread in order to express our interest in MEGACOIN to be added in BTC-E. Feel free to support this petition by replying here. Also, we could send an email to btc-e afterwards, so they can check that there are a lot of people supporting this petition.

MEGACOIN is a coin with huge potential having the following benefits:
- the best diff algorithm that makes it more efficient than any other coin for mining, the insanely difficulty jumps belong in the past!
- the best website (available in chinese also)
- it is a late bitcoin fork, so it contains all the patches promoting security
- it has a beautiful wallet -eye candy
- it will implement the Zerocoin protocol sometime in the future, a necessity for anonymity
- a webstore is about to be created, driving price and trading to new levels
- the expertise and mystery of its developer, Kimoto, which is obvious from the quality of his efforts

We would love to be able to trade MEGACOIN in BTC-E!

I agree  the only Alt coin built on Bitcoin 0.8.2 with a solid network of support, excellent Gravity well algo that allows the blockchain to react quickly to shifting hashrates.  This may really be Bitcoin 2.0 or at least the Silver to Bitcoin's Gold.  -digeros

addnode=71.187.248.95
addnode=119.9.15.177
addnode=27.33.117.153

Sorry I look at code all day long, and I've been drinking a little, so I'm starting to miss some important details.   lol....

WOW nice to see such high level of self awareness Wink  I try not to code after cocktail hour hehe. but it happens.

What I think is funny is that I have meet more computer competent people (via aliases) here in 6 months than in the last ten years hanging around Silicon Valley and even with a third of us drunk or on something else the whole process continues unabated.  AMAZING and WONDERFUL!!!

PS. As an RN, I am one to judge people by their actions and words not their pharmacology content and I think Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin would agree with me on that point. (Education and Moderation instead of Eradication and Prohibition.)

Anyone have any idea how to accept Megacoins as a payment? To calculate shipping costs and convert it to megacoins @ current values on Cryptsy, etc?

Thinking about setting up an online site since I do have access to a good variety wholesale merchandise through some family. Thanks =]

Megacoin payment gateway is coming... Probably still a few weeks away yet though.

Speaking of payment systems I would love to see a way to give 24 hour access codes to a news /archive website for alt coins.

So, how do we link alt payment wallets into server technology and have a process that verifies payment (via wallet) and distributes a temporary passcode (preferably by transaction note - NOT EMAIL - that is so old school) for secured access to a website. -digeros

and Anoncoin is referred to as A Lennon Coin WTF???

Releasing in a few hours is the Official Chinese Website.

Megacoin phonetically in Mandarin is 美卡币.

By definition, these characters can mean:
美 - Beautiful, Perfect, America
卡 - Block, Card, Credit Card
币 - Currency, Money, Coin

Have a nice day!  Smiley  -Dr Kimoto Chan
I believe it's just google translate grabbing the first appropriate word? 'Carolina' instead of 'Credit' or 'Currency'

Not too sure.

Yes it must be a faulty translator,
No disrespect meant on my part Dr. Chan.

Thank you for the lovely translations of your ancient and complex language.  So an appropriate translation would instead have Mega or Large pictogram IMHO.  but as it stands now it translates to Beautiful Block Coin or Perfect Block Coin.  I would vote for Beautiful Block Coin because of the glorious and beautiful way blocks are steadily produced no matter the network hashrate fluctuations thanks to the mysterious and highly effective Gravity Well algo.

PS. Not to mention how odd it is to me that the pictogram for 美 - Beautiful, Perfect, America is all the same...Huh  unfortunately, America is neither Perfect nor Beautiful these days, IMHO.

I think you misunderstand how Chinese works when it comes to writing foreign loan words. They have to use the Chinese characters because that is all they have. You can't just put in the character for "mega" or "large" because it needs to be pronounced somewhat close to what "Mega" sounds like in English. I only speak/read Japanese, so I'm not sure how to pronounce 卡 but I assume it has a sound similar to "ga" in English, because 美 is "mei" in Chinese. That's the only reason it was chosen that way.

Are you telling me that they are trying to use pictograms phonetically instead of literally?  -digeros
