Hi, I am one of the dark wallet devs ( https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/commits/develop), and while I don't have so much time in this community to act as escrow, I can confirm I know the Op personally from barcelona bitcoin meetups and is the real deal. His idea is to buy a few scrypt miners, operate them with his experience and make a profit where he has proven record of profitability. Seems serious and up to the task, like with other miner operations it can be risky, but I and others from the team can confirm we know him personally and is well into mining and not a scammer. Anyways, since he's not very experienced in the forums, I agree some escrow can be good for ppl that want more trust, but since the machines will have to be payed with the money and he can still run with the machines that might not be perfect solution either. I know he welcomes any recommendations about that. Cheers! caedes is my partner since ~10 years and the senior developer for darkwallet. I'm not a miner so I can't vouch for its value or viability, but the OP has spent lots of time with us around the last few months and I can see he's genuine. We can partially act as overseer, but it's up to investors to do their due diligence in the end and be responsible for the risk of deciding to invest. We are just offering our recommendation of character and added information. |

Sorry but I have to conclude that Obelisk doesn't work on low memory (1.5 Gb), non-SSD virtual machines. Just for anyone out there trying. I've lost count how many times I've had to rm -R ./* and start again over the past 4 weeks or so due to some fatal error or another. Shame, because I really didn't want to use any more electricity with yet another physical server but I really want to have these sx tools available to me so I guess it has to be so.

edit2: Getting an error with the libbitcoin step now. Help? I already checked, my libbitcoin dependencies all seem correct: Getting this error. I think I've installed everything people are saying to install, and can't find any obvious packages via googling. edit: It appears that software needs g++ newer than the version I'm running, according to its github page. yep although this error is caused by using an older version of boost |

If you set up your encryption properly you can always hand them the "key" anyway. I've never done a hidden OS, I'm not sure if that utilises a dummy password also, but I did set up a hidden truecrypt volume on one computer that was seized. I gladly handed over the dummy password which opened a folder empty of anything except my CV and a video of me doing the helicopter dance. I spent 4 months on remand and this story made me a hero on the block. I just love this law  Jail time for forgetting a password nice! It's OK they hardly ever use this law right? and if your not guilty of anything what's to worry about? Its not like this law can be called upon whenever its needed or anything and lets be honest when have good honest folk ever been screwed by a government. I'm an honest chap and have no issue with my government installing telescreens into my own home. No need for all that GCHQ camera hacking business just send the boys over and hook me up, I'll put the kettle on. I feel much safer knowing my government has these kind of laws and is looking out for me. haha you're a riot. op, yeah they can take your keys. it doesn't matter if they can't take your property or whatever since it's yet another piece of leverage that the police can use against you. once they have your keys, they can also take the funds from those keys and justify it with law (that's how the police operate). the thing is if you ever find yourself in these situations then don't give an inch, and use everything at your disposal to protect yourself. once you've given consent and compliance, you've opened yourself to be taken advantage of. |

About Obelisk, there isn't too much info yet but the tools are there. We're still improving them though and documenting everything.

If I donate a cheap VPS and point it at your balancer does that help? It's OK, we did the darkwallet campaign. It's more about manpower to develop the tools since we're testing and improving the software. |

nothing is impossible. some people see bitcoin like an unchangeable god that will bring paradise, when in fact it's a tool subject to the consensus of the people developing it. it will and does change.
also who cares if bitcoin is anti or pro capitalist or whether you are an anarcho-something or *-libertarian? it's all loaded terms and labels when in fact it sounds like everyone is talking about the same issues. why don't we shift our discussion to something less utopic and more about the values encompassing our proposed social systems?

I can be for world peace and work to promote world peace, eventhough world peace doesn't exist. Self organisation and owning your work are good values. If you are an entrepreneur then you self organise, manage your own risk and reap the rewards of your work while answering to no-one. I don't see why people would be so opposed to those trying to find ways to empower people, give them back sovereignty and promote a world of independent self-managed individuals. We don't always need to solve problems through centralised power structures like parliaments. There are other ways we can govern ourselves on a local level, flowing like water. It works for me and others, and part of the work is to grow this mindset in a population that is constantly being bombarded and brainwashed. If you taught every child how to make a business, people will be more free and there will be less wage slaves. Hakuna matata. |
