Well bought! Silvers with high serial numbers have been selling for about $1250 so we now have a recent sell price estimated value for a high serial number gold of $3400.

Here is a six hour bitcoin/usd chart at Bitstamp with Bollinger Bands and RSI. Note how each time price has touched the lower BB there was a buy signal. The fact that price is above the 20 MA (middle band) is very bullish. Price target is $2600 at the upper BB. RSI is moving up but not oversold yet. Looking good.

New users need to realize how important the ability to send a transaction RBF is to avoiding delayed/stuck transactions. I only recommend Electrum to friends, and also recommend they get a Ledger Nano S or Trezor to manage private keys.
1444  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nights Watch by Afrikoin on: May 28, 2017, 06:51:13 PM
Afrikoin I am curious were you long bitcoin and profited at all from the run up from $891 to $2760? Or been in cash the whole time?
1445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 28, 2017, 06:45:17 PM
Hi guys,

Thinking of getting a Trezor. What are the pros and cons with them?

Only ever used paper wallets before.

Thanks.

you're dependent on the company servers for functionality, though of course you can restore the wallet elsewhere if the trezor seed is compatible with it.

you still have to store the seed securely.

Trezor uses company servers for firmware updates but you do not have to use the online wallet.trezor.io. Electrum works fine with a Trezor, and you have the ability to send transactions RBF.

What do you think,
How safe is to keep some BTC in the coldwallet for 20 years paying no attention to crypto world?

Not safe. Hard forks might occur that need your attention to prevent loss. At least use a hardware wallet, keep the firmware up to date, and check both your wallet and the forum for news every couple of weeks, at least once a month. Store the seed for your hardware wallet securely, not online, and keep a spare around in case of malfunction.
1447  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: What is the best bitcoin wallet now? on: May 26, 2017, 09:16:25 PM
Let's start with the worst bitcoin wallets that beginners should avoid like the plague:

blockchain.info - comes up in search results so beginners use it but is terrible at estimating fees. There are more complaints about stuck transactions with this wallet than any other. Do not use!

Multibit HD - very buggy and many complaints by users. Again, do not use!

Because of the fee estimation problem it is important to use a wallet that lets you send a transaction replaceable or RBF. When sending from Electrum if you check the box marked replaceable and your transaction is taking too long to confirm you just click on the transaction and bump the fee up. No stuck transactions!

GreenAddress also supports RBF but is more complicated to use than Electrum, and Mycelium does not support RBF at all.

Electrum is stable, well supported and easy to use on desktop or Android and has the all important RBF ability. Start with the best is my opinion.

But... he is for example friends with that WhalePanda guy on Twitter, who is a big altcoin trader. Fluffy even gave him the scoop so he would know what happened. You can not simply claim you hate how people do altcoin trading for profits, and at the same time befriend seasoned traders and giving them a heads up so they can profit from this stunt. That makes him a hypocrite, not a hero for this.

Here is WhalePanda Twitter before the announcement. I believe this was responsible for the pump

It is all fun and games until you step over the line. Here is some evidence of a possible conspiracy to manipulate Monero price.

Posting just in case WhalePanda decides to clean up his Twitter feed.
1450  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is there a better wallet than coinbase? on: May 25, 2017, 05:24:55 PM
Hi,

I have coinbase and I really don't like their id verification requirement.  Also, they limit you on how much you can buy and sell.  For instance, I can only buy $250/week out of my checking account which is just ridiculous.  And I can only sell $10k per week.  I don't like these limitations.  If there's one that doesn't require id verification would even be better.  Thought the whole idea of btc is anonymity.

So Are there any wallets better and consumer friendlier than coinbase?

Thanks!

If you are in US you will not find an easier way to buy bitcoin than Coinbase and should take the time to get fully verified to raise your limits. Keeping your bitcoin on Coinbase is a little more controversial. You don't really own the bitcoin unless you have possession of the private keys, so consider a hardware wallet.
1451  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Windows or Linux for Wallet Software? on: May 25, 2017, 05:13:24 PM
The problem is many OEM Windows machines will not run Linux due to compatibility problems. HP laptops are famous for rejecting Ubuntu installs. Dell and Lenovo, not so much. If you go this route check the laptop for compatibility at https://certification.ubuntu.com/certification/

System76 sells laptops with Ubuntu loaded ready to go. A bit pricey though. Whatever you do try to get yourself an SSD you will be amazed at the speed.
1452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 25, 2017, 05:02:23 PM
Sooner or later there will be a healthy Fibonacci 23.6% correction. At current ATH of 2760 that would be 2145.
1453  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Kialara Moon Bar 100k bits(not currently in hand) on: May 25, 2017, 04:29:25 PM
People start getting cold feet on these? Can't blame you though with this price increase. Purchasing those moon bars from kialara.com might prove to be one of the best investments anyone has made on this forum lately.. Good luck with the sale.

We will not know until the bars are shipped and some go up for auction as they certainly will. If you bought your Kialara with bitcoin you might be wanting your bitcoin back right now. Those who bought with PayPal will probably just hold.
1454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero fake announcement on: May 25, 2017, 04:25:24 PM
Not having been bit by this PnD because I was out of monero at the time my perspective is a little vanished, but it seems to me he made a valid point to the community as a whole.

Right now the crazy bull market has lots of people going nuts for crypto.  If these currencies after to ever succeed they need stability and doing how susceptible value storage can be on coins should be sobering for the pure profit seekers.

Of course I'm here to make a profit, but I'm also thrilled at the prospects for the future of crypto and the possibility it offers for maintaining and even restoring individual liberty when it comes to their financial dealings.

The moves to remove cash from the economy by governments is a step towards greater control of the public, and coins like Monero offer from from that.

That said he could've accomplished similar effect without the financial harm this caused.

Lead maintainers of a crypto coin have a special place as their words are given weight, and are not supposed to move markets just to amuse themselves. Many new investors to Monero lost money and were probably scared away permanently by the damage Spagni did to Monero's reputation yesterday.
1455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 25, 2017, 04:21:19 PM
The dump started Wednesday at 3 PM Eastern time, three hours before the presentation was scheduled. Monero went from .023 to .018 before the fake news actually aired at 7 PM. Some one was in on the joke and made money. Looks pretty clear to me insider trading was going on.
1456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero fake announcement on: May 25, 2017, 03:46:57 PM
The lead maintainer of Monero engineered a pump and dump to amuse himself is what it looks like to me. Disgraceful behaviour and his commit access should be revoked.
1457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 25, 2017, 02:47:25 AM
Also, I guess some Monero programmers get donations in XMR for their time by the community? Bit disrespectful to them unless price restores quickly. Fluffy is already rich so it's easy for him not to be affected.

Agree on the narrow point. But looking at things more broadly...

Do you realize that the Monero price is about where it was before the 'pre-announcement'? Or that Monero has fallen today less than Ripple or Stellar or Zcash?

I'll let iCEBREAKER explain it to you since he does it better, but 'anti fragile' means that if anything fluffypony says or matters all that much, we're doing something wrong. Fortunately, it doesn't.

(And to the extent that this stunt makes what he says or does matter even less, we're doing something right.)

You can try to make the point that the price is still above the pre-announcement levels but, look at the trajectory, have you seen the number of very loyal people just selling their Monero and pledging not to come back?  There are a lot of people that were F'd with today and they won't forget it.

The trajectory is that all coins are getting dumped because there is a decent correlation between alts and USD, so BTC up tends to mean alts down for the most part (long-standing for at least a year or so).

If the value of a coin can be dramatically affected by a prank I doubt it has much value to begin with. That's my view.

Quote
The question has been asked if the rest of the dev team supports this kind of action and if we can expect more leaders shooting themselves and US in the foot?  I think it's an important thing for all of us to know and understand. Speak up developers!

Personally, it wouldn't be something I would do. I think protesting against speculation and hype is actually being too affected by it and I prefer to ignore it all and focus on what I think is important. But that isn't what matters because I'm not fluffypony. I'm sure there are things I would do that he wouldn't.

The value of a coin was just dramatically affected by the most unprofessional prank I have seen in the years I have been following crypto. Riccardo Spagni owes the community an apology. I doubt his words will be given much weight from here on out. This day will not be forgotten easily.
1458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 24, 2017, 11:51:11 PM
What a clusterfuck. Monero lost a lot of good will today. I like to think that fluffypony did not manipulate the market for personal gain. The only news I was able to take away from the lousy audio was that MyMonero is in process of making an Android app, but we knew that a month ago. No release date I could hear.
1459  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to encrypt electrum seed? on: May 24, 2017, 10:50:50 PM
You could use a Veracrypt container but have to be careful of keyloggers and tempdata files kept on your computer. Using a hardware wallet with Electrum is better, you just have to store your 24 word seed offline. I have heard of users just engraving their seed on a credit card size piece of aluminum with a Dremel. The seed is worthless to a thief if you use a passphrase kept in your head.
