1041  Economy / Speculation / Re: Btcc and ViaBtC closed. on: September 30, 2017, 04:42:56 AM
ViaBTC closed their exchange in China but the mining pool is still in business. They have announced plans to reopen their exchange overseas for customers outside of China but there is no firm date yet.
1042  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fork November: Ledger wallet in "Legacy" or "Segwit" to get free coins? on: September 30, 2017, 12:27:53 AM
The safe play is to hold your bitcoin in a legacy account in a Trezor or Nano S hardware wallet. Both handled the BCH hard fork gracefully so no reason not to expect the same if SegWit2X occurs. Trezor did warn after the BCH hard fork that they will no longer publish timelines as they were pressured hard to give Trezor owners BCH as soon as possible. They did but were not happy about being rushed. Can't blame owners though they wanted to sell while price was high.

Patrons like TMAN who really support Max by buying multiples help keep him in business for the rest of us.

So I mentioned the other day that Morgan Freeman is an excellent person, and I'm not quite ready to take that back yet. But. Well...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld0VA7Zzfz4
Wow, can't even trust good ol' Morgan Freeman anymore. His eyes says he doesn't believe what he's saying IMHO.

I cancelled my Trezor order when the hack was exposed to relinquish private keys and balances.  Mostly because I travel a lot and I intend to carry a unit with me. If airport TSA or customs can access keys on the device, I no longer see the use in it.   May prove to be true with other devices later but I ordered the Ledger nano s.  Ships in October, ordered in early August = Bullish!

Trezor fixed the physical memory access hack in the 1.5.2 firmware update, even for Trezors with an older bootloader. Stop spreading FUD.

You will probably get faster response posting your question at  https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/ the devs monitor reddit more than this forum. Hope this helps.

I think the etched Kialara logo rubs against the inside of the poly bag during shipment? All mine had the same.
1049  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 21, 2017, 07:18:31 PM
There are already specific plugins for Chrome (No Coin) and Firefox (CoinBlock 1.0) to block coin-hive. The adblockers will soon also block the js coin miners by default. Don't really see coin-hive having much traction long term consumers will not stand for it.
1050  Economy / Speculation / Re: is this the bear market? or is this just fantasy? on: September 21, 2017, 02:28:52 PM
We have been in a bull market since price was $152 in January 2015. One reliable way to trade a bull market is to watch the 20 MA on a weekly chart and buy when the moving average is touched:

Anyone calling a bitcoin bear market until price drops and stays below the weekly 20 MA is premature.

On the other hand placing buy orders at $2800 is risky: once price drops below that weekly 20 MA it becomes resistance as traders start shorting at the 20 MA.

Price above weekly 20 MA favors longs; below weekly 20 MA favors shorts.
1051  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis on: September 21, 2017, 01:48:40 PM
Keeping analysis simple bitcoin has been in a bull market since the $152 low of Jamuary 2015. All a trader had to do to make money was buy when price touched the 20 MA on a weekly chart and hold:

Right now the weekly 20 MA is $3046. This is just above the swing high of $2980 back in June. Both together show strong support at the $3000 level. Bull markets eventually end and traders will be watching the weekly 20 MA for confirmation.

Right now bitcoin price is in a trading range $3000 to $5000 while waiting for news on whether China will ban or nationalize bitcoin mining.
1052  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 21, 2017, 01:23:02 PM
Guys, any news about ledger hw?

You can watch progress at the github for the project https://github.com/LedgerHQ/blue-app-monero no commits in ten days I would be surprised if they have an alpha by end of September but it could happen. Trezor is busy with Trezor 2 so don't expect anything from them for Monero this year.
1053  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Official Thread] Case - Multi-Signature Hardware Wallet on: September 18, 2017, 07:27:38 PM
Email from Case Wallet last week they are shutting down:

"Case Wallet is suspending Bitcoin Wallet services on November 1, 2017

What you need to know:

1. Your Case Wallet will stop functioning on November 1st

2. If you have a bitcoin balance in your Case Wallet, you should move the funds to another wallet between now and October 31st, 2017

3. You will need to contact our support staff to perform a recovery to retrieve funds after October 31st. This is the same process you'd go through now if you lost your device

Why we are shutting down Case Wallet:

1. 2G is being sunset globally at a faster pace than we originally anticipated and Case becomes unusable in an area where 2G gets retired since it can't access the Internet to perform transactions

2. The 'Buy and Sell' functionality within Case has been suspended because Celery has discontinued their service

3. We are parting ways with our third key recovery partner. We were unable to find an adequate substitute who met our strict guidelines for transparently managing customer recovery keys

4.  We are shifting all resources to work on Token for it's upcoming launch next year. Token is a two factor signing device and we plan to work with bitcoin wallets, as well as other blockchain applications to give their users an easy way to securely manage their private keys

Our team remains dedicated to our mission, which was always to create a consumer experience layer for cryptography so that people can easily manage and use private keys in their day-to-day life. We are extremely appreciative of your support of Case and hope you will continue to support us as we continue to push to bring blockchain applications into mainstream use. Please reach out to us with questions, concerns, or comments you may have during this period. We want to be as transparent as possible and we welcome these discussions. Please email us at support@choosecase.com for any and all inquiries.

Regards,

The Case Wallet Team"

N.B. Trezors and Ledgers bought years ago continue to work fine.
1054  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 15, 2017, 04:13:46 PM
This is Monero speculation board but to answer your question bitcoin traders have been bidding the weekly 20 MA for a long time now. Until that weekly 20 MA is violated we are still in a bitcoin bull market.
1055  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2017, 04:10:32 PM
Anyone else noticed the plethora of noob accounts with 5-lower-case-random-alphabetic-character user names spouting FUD?

They seem to love starting threads calling Bitcoin a Ponzi scheme or otherwise putting it down and calling for a final collapse to nothing.

It reminds me of the 6-character-random-alphanumeric noob troll accounts last year. So obvious, so hilarious.

Perhaps it's time to re-institute newbie jail.

SMF might have a plugin that allows higher ranked members to ignore all newbie posts I vote for that. I go through a ton of new posts a day from new users and very few are useful. I don't even want to see new user posts frankly.
1056  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2017, 03:08:48 PM
Yeah traders have been bidding the weekly 20 MA for a long time. When that stops we have a problem:)

Has the parabola (and bull trend) been broken or will a new fan line form, leading to new all-time highs? $BTC

https://twitter.com/PeterLBrandt/status/908429475167092736

snip

In a word...no.

Looks like we've broken the fib retracement support at 3250USD and next stop 2730USD -- if that doesn't hold (and I reckon it will unless there are further shenanigans) then things get really ugly, the forum gets full of 'BTC is dead' trolls and the MSM is full of stories of people who bought at the top wanting to blame someone, anyone.

The 38.2% level was broken briefly which is not a concern as the weekly 20 MA held. However look out for a dead cat bounce on the weekly chart between $3800 - $4000. Traders are obviously bidding the weekly 20 MA; as long as the 20 MA holds we are still in a bull market.
1058  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2017, 02:59:44 PM
BTC/USD at Bitstamp bounced right off the weekly 20 MA. Until that weekly 20 MA is taken out we are still in a bull market. I draw the Fibonacci support levels properly anchored all the way back at the $152 low. The 38.2% level was broken briefly which is not a concern as the weekly 20 MA held. There is an RSI divergence; again not a concern as it happened before. I do think the 23.6% Fibonacci retrace is an important resistance to break. If there is going to be a weekly dead cat bounce it should be between $3840 and $4000. The sooner price gets back above $4000 the better it is for a continued bull market.

I am using the GUI wallet on a mac. Is there an update? What happens if I don't upgrade? It says on reddit I will be kicked off the network. Will I lose my coins?

Hi, you need to visit the official site at https://getmonero.org/2017/09/07/monero-0.11.0.0-released.html and download and install the new macOS graphical interface today before the hard fork tomorrow.
1060  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 14, 2017, 03:44:43 PM
During this bull market the weekly 20 MA has been respected and RSI has not gone below 50. If the bull market is to continue I think worst case would be a drop to somewhere between the 20 MA and the 38.2% Fibonacci support level. Watch the weekly RSI if it drops below 50 we are probably entering a bear market.
