1481  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara Physical Bitcoins/HAVEN: Update on: May 21, 2017, 02:39:18 PM
Given the exchange rate in USD has doubled since 'To the Moon' bars sold out, this is by far the most expensive Kialara series to date. Even the 100k bars effectively cost around $700 USD if paid in Bitcoin. I hope there will be added security measures or an option to add signature confirmation.

PayPal was definitely the better choice for payment this time. Who loads a Kialara anyways? It would be a sin to destroy one to get to the private key:)

I don't remember if paypal was even an option for the suites. Paypal was there later on for sure but the opening day I thought it was just bitcoin. I am guessing most people paid in Bitcoin. Either way, I think trades/resales in the future will likely take into account the original BTC cost.

PayPal was always an option for the two piece sets and later the single 100,000 bar; can't speak for the three bar suites as they sold out in like five minutes.

1484  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Windows or Linux for Wallet Software? on: May 19, 2017, 09:40:28 PM
No reason not to use Linux but you really should be thinking about using a hardware wallet for as many of your cryptocurrencies as are supported by Trezor or Nano S.
1485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yet Another Reason to Have Various BTC Wallets on: May 19, 2017, 09:34:50 PM
The only way you can achieve isolation of your bitcoin private keys using software wallets is to run Armory on top of Bitcoin Core using an offline computer to sign transactions. Once Trezor came along, then Nano S, most of us stopped using Armory. As bitcoin becomes more valuable there will be more losses due to operator error and bitcoin stealing malware.

Anyone with more than one bitcoin needs a hardware wallet. You don't have to buy gadgets like Cryptosteel to safe keep your 24 word seed, just get a credit card sized piece of aluminum and engrave your seed with a Dremel.
1486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yet Another Reason to Have Various BTC Wallets on: May 19, 2017, 09:15:45 PM
Blockchain.info wallet causes more grief to new users (fees too low) than any other wallet except Multibit HD. Both should be avoided like the plaque.

Case wallet was a popular hardware wallet a year ago but the company has abandoned updating the firmware. I hope Case users got their bitcoin out because you cannot specify a fee using that wallet and fees are set very low.

I really wish Bitcoin Core had incorporated support for Trezor or Nano S by now but doubt that is going to happen.

I understand he is seeking perfection but honestly the current hologram and appearance of the obverse looks fine to me.
1488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 18, 2017, 04:30:29 PM
Also I don't understand why we got this massive spike UP today on this news, but *now* it's retraced back down again by about half the spike up already?

WTF... who in the fuck would be SELLING OFF their Moneroj on this news?

To me, news like this ought to trigger a spike up and Up and UP, over even several DAYS of extended rally, as news spreads & people figure out what it means!

Maybe that'll still happen, who knows, but just more "WTF" material in these-here Strange Days, Indeed... Tongue

The trend is down as XMR/BTC has been making lower lows on 12 hour chart with a couple of spikes up. It is tough to trade right now and will be until price starts making higher highs and higher lows. I don't think XMR/BTC has found a bottom yet but that is just me.

Ledger Nano S hardware wallet is adding Ripple support soon!

myetherwallet with a Ledger Nano S is the top solution at the moment
1491  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: TREZOR - How can I recover a passphrase wallet in Electrum. on: May 17, 2017, 07:42:50 PM
Yes please listen to that advice. Once you type the seed on a computer you have lost all security. Wipe that Trezor and start over. The latest Trezor firmware allows you to recover your Trezor from seed securely using advanced recovery.

Most people who use Trezor keep a spare around. Once you have a few dollars in an account on your Trezor wipe it clean and restore from seed to prove to yourself that all you need is to keep the 24 word seed safe and in order.
1492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I want to give "day trading" a go, question is where? on: May 17, 2017, 07:33:50 PM
Hello everyone,

I thought of giving day trading a go, I do have a limit of funds to invest into this project, and it's XXXX, I am also aware that I CAN and WILL most likely loose funds doing this, but I am doing this for "fun" and my limit or spendings on this project is not making me homeless nor is it going to make me cry, if I do end up loosing.

I just wanted to know, what kind of platform everyone is using for day trading, or trading in general, which site should I avoid, give me your best suggestions :-)

Thank you!

You definitely will lose money at first. Part of the learning curve. There are plenty of online resources for beginning traders. The best advice I could give someone is to trade on paper for at least three months until you learn for yourself whether you have a chance of making money. 95% of traders lose their trading capital and quit. However some have talent for it, you may be one. You would learn faster if you could find a mentor or a trading club where experienced traders could help you.

I would recommend you not take on day trading at first. Instead concentrate on trading longer time frames where you expect to be in a trade for at least a month. Otherwise the professional day traders will eat you for lunch.

Go to http://coinmarketcap.com/ and concentrate on the top ten coins. And remember you are trying to beat a buy and hold strategy. That is, can you make more money trading than just buying bitcoin and watching it go up in value. Remember: your goal in trading altcoins is to increase your bitcoin. If you are actively trading and your bitcoin reserve is going down best to stop trading.

1494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the most secure Bitcoin Hardware wallet ? on: May 17, 2017, 04:30:31 PM
Case is the most secure but also the most expensive.
https://choosecase.com/

The larger you bitcoin holdings, the less important the price of a wallet is.

Stay away from Case. The company has not upgraded the firmware for the Case wallet for a year and transactions are sent with very low fees. It appears they no longer support the wallet. It was an interesting project but was never the most secure hardware wallet.
1495  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: May 17, 2017, 03:29:07 AM
Updating firmware is not a concern. Your 24 word seed is your bitcoin; you can step on your Trezor or Ledger and destroy it, and restore your seed to a new one in 10 minutes. Back in business. You should be eager to update; firmware needs to be updated to incorporate new coins, new features. Case had a popular hardware wallet a year ago that is worthless now because they never updated firmware to adjust fees.
1496  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: May 17, 2017, 01:42:18 AM

Update: there does seem to be a problem, I'm getting this js error when connecting to https://wallet.trezor.io

Code:
00:55:59.753 SyntaxError: in strict mode code, functions may be declared only at top level or immediately within another function1 app.fc2c4806f82bb84f5284.js:186227:19

and doesn't progress beyond displaying (non-rotating) gears and "Loading ... TREZOR Wallet is starting" message.

https://old-wallet.trezor.io/#/ still works, so it is not the browser or trezord, etc set-up.

... anyone else seeing this problem or just on my set-up?

No problem here but wallet.trezor.io seems to be having a problem with the bitcoinfees.21.co API; fees set way too high. Until Trezor fixes the issue probably a good idea to use Electrum instead.

1498  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [HELP] Wallet To Sign Transactions Offline - Android Ginger Bread on: May 15, 2017, 05:36:49 PM
You need a newer phone Android 4 and up. With that you can install Mycelium wallet and use a Trezor or Nano S to sign transactions offline. Anything less is asking for trouble.
1499  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Silver Kialara on: May 15, 2017, 04:47:11 PM
can't believe it went for such low

price rise effect?

In USD higher number silver Kialaras have been staying stable at about $1200 or 6X original cost. As bitcoin price goes up you can expect auction prices in BTC to go down. I would bet that the silvers have topped out in USD price, at least higher serial nos. As bitcoin goes up collectors have to make a decision to hold bitcoin or use it to buy collectibles. When the 'To The Moon' pieces come out later this month it will be interesting to see what prices they bring at auction. Congrats Zepher well bought.
1500  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: help with unconfirmed transaction please on: May 13, 2017, 09:26:14 PM
You used way too low a fee for that transaction. Your can try to push the transaction using https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/ free service. Best advice is to stop using the blockchain.info wallet and move to Electrum for the future.
